¹³ For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because, when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which performs its work in you who believe.

¹³ And if the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. ¹⁴ And whoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when you depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet.

²⁰ For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.

⁴⁰ He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me.

¹ And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret,

¹¹ Now the meaning of the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.

²¹ And he answered and said to them, My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God, and do it.

²⁸ But he said, Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.

³ Now you are clean through the word which I have spoken to you.

¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth: your word is truth.

¹⁹ And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified in the truth.

⁴¹ Then those who received his word were baptized: and that same day there were added to their number about three thousand souls.

¹⁴ Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John:

³³ Therefore I immediately sent to you; and you have been kind enough to come. Now then, we are all present here before God, to hear all things that you have been commanded by the Lord.

⁴⁴ And the next sabbath day almost the whole city came together to hear the word of God. ⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and contradicted those things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should have first been spoken to you: but seeing that you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were appointed for eternal life believed.

¹⁴ And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, who worshipped God, heard us. The Lord opened her heart, so she attended to the things which were spoken by Paul.

³⁰ And brought them out, and said, Men, what must I do to be saved? ³¹ And they said, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved, you and your household. ³² And they spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house. ³³ And he took them that same hour of the night, and washed their wounds; and was immediately baptized, he and all his household. ³⁴ And when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them, and rejoiced with all his household, because they believed in God.

¹¹ These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so.

¹⁸ Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoics, encountered him. And some said, What is this babbler trying to say? and others, He seems to be a proclaimer of strange gods: because he preached to them Jesus, and the resurrection. ¹⁹ And they took him, and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine is, of which you speak? ²⁰ For you bring certain strange things to our ears: therefore we want to know what these things mean.

³² And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear you again on this matter.

⁸ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. ⁹ For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you in my prayers;

¹⁷ But thanks be to God, that you who were once the slaves of sin, have obeyed from the heart that standard of teaching which was entrusted to you. ¹⁸ Being then set free from sin, you became the slaves of righteousness.

¹⁷ So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled faces beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into that same image, from glory to glory, and this is from the Lord, the Spirit.

¹⁴ And though my fleshly condition was a trial for you, you did not despise or reject me; but received me as an angel from God, as Christ Jesus himself.

⁶ Which has come to you. In all the world it brings forth fruit and grows, as it does also in you, since the day you heard of it, and understood the grace of God in truth:

² We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; ³ Always remembering your work of faith, and labour of love, and endurance of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of our God and Father;

⁵ For our gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with full conviction. You know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. ⁶ And you became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word despite much affliction, with joy from the Holy Spirit: ⁷ So that you became an example to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia. ⁸ For from you the word of the Lord sounded out not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but your faith in God has spread abroad; so that we need not speak anything. ⁹ For they themselves testify about what manner of reception we had from you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God; ¹⁰ And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, that is, Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.

¹² For the word of God is alive, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intents of the heart.

¹⁸ By his own will he brought us forth with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.

²³ You have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever.

²⁵ But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word that was preached to you.

² As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow by it in your salvation:

¹⁶ For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. ¹⁷ For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came a voice to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. ¹⁸ And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him on the holy mountain. ¹⁹ And so we have the word of prophecy made more certain; to which you would do well to take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts: ²⁰ Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is a matter of one's private interpretation. ²¹ For prophecy did not come in times of old by the will of man: but holy men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

² That you may recall the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Saviour given through your apostles: ³ And every man who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.

⁴ For everyone who is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. ⁵ Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
