¹ It is not expedyent for me (no doubte) to reioyce. Neuerthelesse I wyll come to visions and reuelations of the Lorde. ² I knowe a man in Christe aboue .xiiij. yeares agone (whether he were in the bodye I cannot tell, or whether he were oute of the bodye I cannot tell, God knoweth) whiche was taken vp into the third heauen. ³ And I knowe the same man (whether in the bodye, or oute of the bodye, I cannot tell, God knoweth) ⁴ howe that he was taken vp into paradyse, and hearde wordes not to be spoken, whiche no man can vtter. ⁵ Of thys man wyll I reioyce, of my selfe wyll I not reioyce, excepte it be of myne infyrmytyes. ⁶ And yet thoughe I woulde reioyce, I shoulde not be a fole: for I shoulde saye the trueth: Neuerthelesse I spare, lest anye man shoulde thynke of me aboue that he seeth me to be, or heareth of me. ⁷ And lest I shoulde be exalted out of measure thorowe the aboundaunce of reuelacions there was geuen vnto me vnquyetnes of the fleshe, the messenger of Satan to buffete me: because I shoulde no be exalted oute of measure. ⁸ For thys thynge besought I the Lorde thryse, that it myght departe from me. ⁹ And he sayde vnto me: my grace is suffycyent for the. For my strengthe is made perfecte thorowe weakenes. Very gladly therfor wil I reioyce of my weakenes, that the strength of Christe maye dwell in me ¹⁰ Therfore haue I delectacyon in infyrmities, in rebukes, in nede, in persecutions, in anguyshe, for Christes sake. For when I am weake, then am I stronge. ¹¹ I am made a fole in bostynge my selfe. Ye haue compelled me: I ought to haue bene commended of you. For in nothynge was I inferyor vnto the chiefe Apostles. Thoughe I be nothynge ¹² yet the tokens of an Apostle were wroughte amonge you with al pacience: with signes, and wonders and myghty dedes. ¹³ For what is it wherein ye were inferyours vnto other congregacyons except it be therein that I was not greuous vnto you. Forgeue me thys wrong done vnto you. ¹⁴ Behold the now thyrde time I am redy to come vnto you, and yet wyll I not be greuouse vnto you. For I seke not yours, but you. Also the chyldren ought not to lay vp for the fathers & mothers but the fathers a mothers for the chyldren. ¹⁵ I wyll very gladly bestowe, and wyll be bestowed for youre soules: thoughe the more I loue you, the lesse I am loued agayne. ¹⁶ But be it that I greued you not: neuerthelesse I was crafty and toke you with gyle. ¹⁷ Dyd I pyl you by any of them which I sent vnto you? ¹⁸ I desyred Titus, and with hym I sent a brother. Did Tytus defraude you of any thing? walked we not in one spyryte? walked we not in lyke steppes? ¹⁹ Agayne, thynke ye that we excuse oure selues. We speake in Christe in the syght of God. But we do all thynges dearelye beloued for youre edifiynge. ²⁰ For I feare least it come to passe, that when I come, I shall not fynde you suche as I woulde, and I shalbe founde amonge you debate, enuiynge, wrath, stryfe, backbytynges, whisperynges, swellynges & discorde. ²¹ I feare leste when I come agayne, God brynge me lowe amonge you, and I be constrayned to bewayle many of them which haue synned already, and haue not repented of the vncleanes, fornicacyon, and wantonnes, whiche they haue commytted.

¹⁴ Than sayde God: let there be lightes in the fyrmament of heauen, to deuyde the day from the nyght, that they may be vnto sygnes, seasons, dayes and yeares. ¹⁵ And let them be lyghtes in the fyrmament of heauen, to shyne vpon the erth: And so it was. ¹⁶ And God made two greate lyghtes: A greater lyght to rule the daye, and a lesse lyght to rule the nyght: and he made sterres also. ¹⁷ And God put them in the fyrmament of heauen to shyne vpon the erth, ¹⁸ and to rule the daye and the nyght: and to deuyde the lyght from darcknesse. And God sawe that it was good: ¹⁹ & so of the euenyng & mornyng was made the fourth day. ²⁰ And God said: let the water bryng forth creatures that moue and haue lyfe, & foules for to flye ouer the erth vnder the fyrmament of heauen.

³⁵ and the Lorde hath blessed my master out of measure, that he is become greate, & hath geuen hym shepe oxen, siluer & golde, men seruantes maydeseruantes, camels and asses. ³⁶ And Sara my masters wife bare him a sonne, when she was olde: & vnto hym hath he geuen al that he hath.

¹⁴ Then answered Rahell & Lea, & sayed vnto him: we haue no parte nor enheritaunce in oure fathers house, ¹⁵ he counteth vs euen vs straungers, for he hath solde vs, & hath euen eaten vp the price of vs.

²⁵ And when he sawe that he could not preuayle agaynste hym, he smote hym vnder the thye, & the senowe of Iacobs thye shranke as he wrestled with him

³¹ And as he went ouer Pheniel the sonne rose vpon him, & he halted vpon his thye:

¹¹ And Moyses said vnto God: what am I to go vnto Pharao, & to brynge the chyldren of Israell out of Egypt? ¹² And he sayde: I wyll be wt the. And this shalbe a token vnto the that I haue sente the, after that thou hast brought the people out of Egyte, ye shall serue God vpon thys mountayne.

¹⁰ And Moses sayed vnto the Lorde: oh my Lorde I am not eloquent, no not in tymes past, and namely sence thou hast spoken vnto thy seruaunt: but I am slowe mouthed, and slow tonged. ¹¹ And the Lord sayed vnto hym: who hath made mans mouthe, or who hath made the dombe or the deaffe, the seynge or the blind? haue not I the Lord? ¹² Go therfore and I wilbe with thy mouth, and teach the what thou shalte saye. ¹³ But he sayed: oh my Lord, send I pray the whom thou wylt. ¹⁴ And the lord was angry with Moyses and said: I knowe Aaron thy brother the Leuite that he can speake. And more ouer behold, he cometh to mete the, & when he seeth the he wyll be glade in hys herte. ¹⁵ And thou shalt speake vnto hym and put the wordes in his mouth, and I wylbe wyth thy mouth and wyth his mouth, and wyl teach you what ye shall do.

³¹ And Moses went agayne vnto the Lorde & sayd: Oh, thys people haue synned a great synne & haue made them a god of gold:

⁶ And he sayed heare my wordes If there be a prophet of the Lordes among you, I wyl shewe my selfe vnto him in a visyon & wyll speake vnto hym in a dreame.

¹⁵ And Moses waxed very angry and sayd vnto the Lord. Turne not vnto their offeringes, I haue not taken so much as an asse from them, neyther haue vexed any of them.

⁵⁵ But and yf ye wyl not dryue out the inhabiters of the land before you, then those whyche ye let remayne of them, shalbe thornes in youre eyes & dartes in your sydes, & shall vexe you in the land wherin ye dwel.

²³ And besoughte the Lorde the same tyme saying: ²⁴ O Lorde GOD thou hast begonne to shewe thy seruaunte thy greatnesse & thy myghty hande, for there is no God in heauen nor in erth that can do after thy workes & after thy power: ²⁵ let me go ouer & se the good lande that is beyonde Iordan, that goodly hye contre and Libanon. ²⁶ But the Lord was angrye wyth me for your sakes & wolde not heare me, but sayed vnto me, be content, and speake henceforth no moare vnto me of this matter. ²⁷ Get the vp into the toppe of Phasgah & lyfte vp thyne eyes west, north, south, and easte, and behold it wyth thyne eyes for thou shalt not go ouer thys Iordan.

¹⁴ then beware lest thyne herte ryse & thou forget the Lorde thy God which brought the out of the land of Egypt the house of bondage,

¹⁵ And I turned away and came downe from the hyll (& the hyll burnt with fire) & had the two tables of the appointment in my handes

²⁵ And I fell before the Lord .xl. dayes and .xl. nyghtes whyche I lay there, for the Lord was mynded to haue destroyed you.

²⁰ that his hert arise not aboue his brethren and that he turne not from the commaundement: either to the right hand or to the left, that both he & his children mai prolong their daies in his kingdom in Israel.

²⁵ Iron and brasse shall hange on thy shooes & thyne age shalbe as thyne youth. ²⁶ There is none lyke vnto the God of Israell: he that sytteth vpon heauen shall be thyne helpe, whose glorye is in the cloudes, ²⁷ that is the dwellyng place of God from the begynnynge, and from vnder the armes of the worlde: he hath caste out thyne enemyes before the and sayed destroy.

⁹ Beholde, I haue sayde vnto the, be strong and bolde: neyther feare, nor dreade. For the Lorde thy God is with the whether soeuer thou goest.

³ wherfore I haue lykewyse determyned that I wyll not cast them out before you: but they shalbe in the sydes of you, and theyr Goddes shalbe snares vnto you.

³ Behold here I am: answere me before the Lorde & before his annoynted, whose oxe haue I taken? or whose asse haue I taken? whom haue I done wrong to? or whom haue I pylled? And of whose hand haue I receiued any bribe, to blynde myne eyes therewith? & I wyll restore it you agayne. ⁴ And they sayde thou hast done vs no wronge, nor pylled vs, nether hast thou taken ought of any mannes hande.

¹¹ it repenteth me that I haue made Saul King. For he is turned from me, & hath not parformed my commaundementes, wherfore Samuel was euyl apayde & cryed vnto the Lord all nyght.

³⁵ But Samuel came no more to se Saule vntyll the day of hys death. Neuerthelesse Samuel mourned for Saule, because the Lorde repented that he had made hym Kyng ouer Israel.

¹⁶ And Dauid besought god for the boye and fasted and wente & laye all nyght vpon the earthe. ¹⁷ And the elders of hys house arose and wente to him to take hym vp from the earthe. But he wolde not, neyther yet eat meat wyth them. ¹⁸ And it happened the seuenth daye that the chylde dyed. But the seruauntes of Dauid durst not tell hym that the chylde was dead. For they said, se while the child was yet aliue, we spake vnto hym, and he wolde not herken vnto oure voyce. How much more then wil he vexe hym selfe yf we tell hym that the chylde is dead?

³⁹ And by that tyme the kynge turned hys mynde from pursuynge Absalom. For he had lefte mournynge for the death of Amnon.

¹ Then Ahithophel sayd vnto Absalom: let me chose out, I pray the, twelue thousand men. And I will vp and folowe after Dauid by night. ² And I wil come vpon hym whyle he is werye and weake handed, and will feare him, that all the people that are wt hym shal flee. And so wyl I smyte the kinge onlye, ³ and wyl brynge agayne al the people vnto the. And when al these men whyche thou sekest, are turned to the, and al the people shal haue rest. ⁴ And the sayinge pleaseth Absalom well and all the elders of Israel.

³³ And the kynge was moued and went vp to a chambre ouer the gate and wept. And as he went, thus he sayde: my sonne Absalom my sonne, my sonne, my sonne Absalom, woulde to God I had dyed for thy Absalom, my sonne, my sonne.

²⁷ But in deade can God dwell on the earthe? Beholde neyther heauen, nor heauen aboue all heauens are able to contayne the: howe muche lesse then thys house that I haue built?

¹² And as sone as I am gone from the, the spyryte of the Lorde shal cary the away, whether I shall not knowe, and then I haue gone and tolde Ahab, and then he can not fynde the, he shall sley me. And yet I thy seruaunt haue feared the Lorde from my younge age.

¹⁵ And the chyldren of the Prophetes of Iericho, which saw him from a farre, sayde: the spyryte of Eliah doeth rest on Elizeus, and went against him, and bowed to the earth vnto him. ¹⁶ And they saide vnto him: se, there be amonge thy seruauntes fyftie lustie men: let them go and seke thy mayster: happlye the spirit of the Lorde hathe taken him vp & cast him vpon some mountain or in some valeye. And he saide: sende not.

¹⁶ But he sayde: as surely as the Lord lyueth, before whome I stand, I wil receyue none. And the other would haue constrayned him to receyue: but he woulde not do it.

²⁰ Gihezi the seruaunt of Elizeus the man of God, sayd: se, my mayster hath kepte of, thys Syryen Naaman that he wolde not receyue of hys hand that he offered. As surely as the Lorde lyueth I wyl runne after hym, and take somewhat. ²¹ And so Gihezi went after Naaman. And when Naaman sawe hym come runnynge after hym, he came doune of the charet agaynst hym & said: is all well? ²² And he sayde: yea. But my mayster hath sente me, sayinge: se there be two younge men come to me oute of Ephraim of the chyldren of the Prophetes: geue them I praye the, one talent of syluer, & a couple of good garmentes. ²³ And Naaman sayde: auenture and take two talentes of syluer in two bagges, with two goodlye garmentes, & delyuered them vnto two of hys seruauntes, to beare it before hym. ²⁴ And he went in the darcke, and toke it of theyr handes and bestowed it in the house, and let the men go, & they departed. ²⁵ Then he went & stode before hys mayster. And Elizeus sayde to hym: whence commeth Gihezi? And he sayde: thy seruaunt wente no whether. ²⁶ And he sayde: wente not myne herte with the, when the man turned & came of hys charet agaynste the? Is it a tyme to receyue syluer & to receyue garmentes, olyue trees, vineyardes, oxen, shepe menseruauntes & maid seruauntes? ²⁷ The leprosye therfore of Naaman claue vnto the, & vnto thy seede for euer. And he went out from hym a leper as whit as snowe.

¹⁶ And in his greatnesse hys hert arose, that he was marred: & transgressed against the Lord his God. For he went into the temple of the Lorde to burne cense vpon the aulter of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah dyd not according to the curtesy shewed him, for his hert arose: & therfore came there wrath vpon him & vpon Iuda and Ierusalem. ²⁶ Not withstanding Hezekiah mekened him selfe for that a rysing of hys herte, both he and the enhabyters of Ierusalem. Wherfore the wrath of the Lord fel not vpon them in the dayes of Hezekiah.

³¹ But when the Ambassadoures of the Lordes of Babylon were sent to hym to enquyre of the wondre that chaunsed in the land, God lefte hym: to tempte hym, that all that was in hys herte myght be knowen.

³ When I hearde thys, I rent my clothes and my rayment, and plucte of the hearre of my heade, and of my bearde, and sate mournyng.

¹ And when Esdras prayed after this maner, & knowledge, wept & laye before the house of God, there resorted vnto hym oute of Israel a very great congregacion of men and wemen, & chyldren: for the people wepte very sore.

¹⁴ And from the tyme forth that it was commytted vnto me to be a captayne in the lande of Iuda, namely from the twentyeth year vnto the two and thyrtyeth yeare of kynge Arthaxerses (that is twelue yeare) I and my brethren lyued not of suche sustenaunce as was geuen to a captayne.

⁷ So went Sathan forth from the Lorde, and smote Iob with maruelous sore byles, from the sole of the fote vnto hys crowne:

²⁵ Is it not so? Who wyll then reproue me as a lyar, & say that my wordes are nothing worth.

² Out of the mouth of the very babes and sucklynges thou haste ordeyned prayse, because of thyne enemyes, that thou mightest destroye the enemye & the auenger.

⁷ All they that hate me, runne together agaynst me, and ymagyn euell against me.

² In the tyme of my trouble I soughte the Lorde, I helde vp myne handes vnto him in the night season, for my soule refused all other comforte. ³ When I was in heuinesse, I thought vpon God: when my hert was vexed, then dyd I speake Selah. ⁴ Thou heldest myne eyes wakyng, I was so feble, that I coulde not speake. ⁵ Then remembred I the tymes of old, and the yeares that were past. ⁶ I called to remembraunce my song in the night, I communed wyth myne owne herte, and sought out my spirite. ⁷ Wyll the Lorde cast out for euer? Wyl he be no more intreated? ⁸ Is hys mercye cleane gone? Is hys promyse come vtterlye to an ende for euermore? ⁹ Hath the Lord forgotten to be gracyous? Or, hath he shut vp hys louynge kyndnes in dyspleasure? Selah. ¹⁰ At the last, I came to thys poynte, that I thought: O why art thou so folysh? the right hande of the moost hyest can chaunge all. ¹¹ Therefore wyll I remembre the worckes of the Lorde, and call to mynde thy wonders of olde tyme.

¹³⁶ Myne eyes gusshe out with water, because men kepe not thy lawe.

⁴ Prayse hym all ye heauens, and ye waters that be vnder the heauens.

³⁰ The frute of the righteous is as the tree of lyfe, a wyse man also wynneth mens soules.

²² Which their chylders chyldren shal haue in possession, for the riches of the synner is layed vp for the iuste.

²⁸ A frowarde bodye causeth stryfe, and he that is a blabbe of his tonge, maketh deuisyon amonge princes.

¹⁴ House & ryches maye a man haue by the heritage of hys elders, but a discrete woman is the gifte of the Lord.

⁵ Moreouer vpon al the dwellynges of the hyl of Syon, and vpon their whole congregacyon, shal the Lord prouyde a cloude & smoke by daye, and the shynynge of a flammynge fyre by nyght: for all their glorye shalbe preserued. ⁶ And Ierusalem shall be a tabernacle for a shadowe because of hete in the daye tyme, a place and refuge where a man may kepe him for wether and rayne.

² The spyryt of the Lorde shall lyghte vpon it, the spyryte of wisedome and vnderstandynge: the spirit of councell, & strength: the spirite of knowledge, and of the feare of God:

³ And therfore strengthen the weake handes, and comforte the feble knees. ⁴ Saye vnto them that are of a fearfull herte: Be of good there, & feare not. Beholde youre God cometh, to take vengeaunce, and to rewarde, God commeth his owne selfe, & wyll delyuer you.

²⁹ but that he geueth strength vnto the weery, and power vnto the faynte? ³⁰ Chyldren are weery and faynt, and the strongest men fall: ³¹ But vnto them that haue the Lorde before their eyes, shal strength be encreased, Aegles wynges shall growe vpon them: When they runne they shall not fal: and when they go, they shal not be weery.

¹³ For I thy Lorde and God, will strengthen thy ryght hande. Euen I that saye vnto the: Feare not. I will helpe the. ¹⁴ Be not a frayde thou lytle worme Iacob, & thou despysed Israell for I will helpe the, sayeth the Lorde, and the holy one of Israel thyne auenger. ¹⁵ Beholde, I will make the a treadyng cart & a new flayle, that thou mayest thresshe and grynd the mountaynes, and brynge the hylles to poulder. ¹⁶ Thou shalt fanne them, & the wynde shall carye them awaye, and the whyrlwynde shall scater them. But thou shalt reioyse in the Lorde, and shalt delyte in praysinge the holy one of Israel.

² When thou wentest in the water, I was by the, that the stronge floudes shuld not pluck the awaye. When thou walkest in the fyre, it shall not burne the, and the flame shall not kindle vpon the.

²⁴ sayinge: Verelye in the Lorde is my ryghtuousnes and strength. To hym shall men come: but all they that thyncke scorne of hym, shalbe confounded. ²⁵ And the whole sede of Israel shalbe iustyfyed, and praysed in the Lorde.

¹⁵ For thus sayeth the hye and excellent, euen he that dwelleth in euerlastingnesse, whose name is the holy one. I dwell hye aboue & in the sanctuary, and with him also, that is of a contrite & humble spirite: that I maye heale a troubled mind, & a contrite hert.

⁶ Then sayde I: Oh Lorde God, I am vnmete, for I am yet but younge. ⁷ And the Lorde answered me thus: Saye not so, I am to younge. For thou shalt go to al that I shall sende the vnto, and whatsoeuer I commaund the, that shalt thou speake. ⁸ Be not afrayed of their faces, for I wilbe with the, to delyuer the, sayeth the Lorde. ⁹ And with that, the Lorde stretched oute his hande, and touched my mouthe, and sayde moreouer vnto me. Beholde I put my wordes in thy mouth,

¹ O who wil geue my heade water ynough, and a wel of teares for myne eyes: that I may wepe night and day, for the slaughter of my people?

¹⁷ But yf ye wyll not heare me, that geue you secrete warnyng, I will mourne fro my whole hert for youre stubburnesse. Pyteouslye wyll I wepe, and the teares shall gusshe out of myne eyes. For the Lordes flocke shall be caryed awaye captyue.

¹ It chaunsed in the .xxx. yeare the fifth daye of the .iiij. Moneth, that I was amonge the presoners by the ryuer of Cobar: where the heauens opened, and I sawe a vysyon of God. ² Now the fyfth daye of the moneth made out the fyfth yeare of Kyng Ioacins captiuytye. ³ At the same tyme came the worde of the Lord vnto Ezechiel the sonne of Buzi the Preste, in the lande of the Caldees by the water of Cubar, where the hande of the Lorde came vpon hym. ⁴ And I loked, and beholde a stormy wynde came out of the North with a greate cloude full of fyre, which with hys glystre lyghtned all rounde aboute. And in the myddest of the fyre it was all cleare, ⁵ and as it were the lycknesse of foure beastes, which were fashyoned lyke a man: sauyng, ⁶ that euery one had foure faces and foure wynges. ⁷ Their legges were streyght, but their fete were lyke bullackes fete, and they glystered, as it had bene fayre scoured metall. ⁸ Vnder their wynges vpon all the foure corners they had mens handes. Their faces and their wynges were towarde the foure corners: ⁹ yet were the wynges so, that one euer touched another. When they wente, they turned them not aboute: but echone went streyght forwarde. ¹⁰ Vpon the ryght syde of these foure, their faces were lyke the face of a man, and the face of a Lyon: But vpon the left syde, they had the face of an oxe, and the face of an Aegle. ¹¹ Their faces also and their wynges were spred out aboue: so that two winges of one touched euer two wynges of of another, and wyth the other they couered their body. ¹² Euery one when it wente, it wente streyght forwarde. Where as the sprete ledd them, thether they went, and turned not aboute in their goynge. ¹³ The fashyon and countenaunce of the beastes was lyke hoate coales of fyre, euen as though burnynge cressettes had bene amonge the beastes: and the fyre gaue a glystre, and out of the fyre there wente lyghtenynge. ¹⁴ When the beastes wente forwarde and backwarde, one wolde haue thought it had lyghtened. ¹⁵ Now when I had well considered the beastes, I sawe a worcke of wheles vpon the earth with foure faces also lyke the beastes. ¹⁶ The fashyon and worcke of the wheles was lyke the sea. The foure wheles were ioyned and made (to loke vpon) as it had bene one whele in another. ¹⁷ When one wente forwarde, they wente all foure, and turned them not about in their goinge. ¹⁸ They were large, greate and horryble to loke vpon. Their bodyes were full of eyes round about them all foure. When the beastes wente the wheles wente also with them: ¹⁹ And when the beastes lyft them selues vp from the earth, the wheles were lyft vp also. ²⁰ Whether soeuer the sprete wente, thether wente they also, and the wheles were lyft vp, and folowed them: for the sprete of lyfe was in the wheles. ²¹ When the beastes went forth, stode styll, or lyft them selues vp from the earth: then the wheles also wente, stode styll, and were lyft vp, for the breth of lyfe was in the wheles. ²² Aboue ouer the heades of the beastes there was a fyrmament, whyche was fashyoned as it had bene of the most pure Chrystal, and that was spred out aboue vpon their heades: ²³ vnder the same fyrmament were their wynges layed abrode, one toward another, and two winges couered the body of euery beast. ²⁴ And when they wente forth, I hearde the noyse of their wynges, lyke the noyse of greate waters, as it had bene the voyce of the greate God, and a russhynge together as it were of an hoost of men. And when they stode styll, they let downe their wynges. ²⁵ Now when they stode styll, and had letten downe their wynges, it thondred in the fyrmament that was aboue their heades. ²⁶ Aboue the firmament that was ouer their heades, there was the fashyon of a seate, as it had bene made of Saphir. Vpon the seate there sat one lyke a man. ²⁷ I behelde hym, & he was lyke a cleare lyght, as it had bene all of fyre with in from hys loynes vpwarde. And beneth when I loked vpon him vnder the loynes, me thought he was lyke a shynyng fyre, that geueth lyght on euery syde. Yee the shyne & glystre that lyghtened rounde aboute, ²⁸ was lyke a raynbowe, which in a raynye daye appeareth in the cloudes. Euen so was the symylitude, wherin the glory of the Lorde appeared. When I sawe it, I fel vpon my face, and herkened vnto the voyce of him that spake.

¹ It happened, that in the syxte yeare the fyfth daye of the syxte moneth I sat in my house, & the Lordes of the councell of Iuda with me: and the hande of the lord God fell euen there vpon me. ² And as I loked vp, I saw, as it were a lykenesse of fyre from hys loynes douneward, and from hys loines vpwarde it shyned maruelous cleare. ³ This similytude stretched oute an hande, and toke me by the hearry lockes of my head, and the spryte lyfte me vp betwyxte heauen & earthe: and God brought me in a vision to Ierusalem, into the entrye of the inner porte that lyeth towarde the Northe: there stode an ymage, with whome he that hath all thynges in hys power, was very wroth.

²⁴ But the wynde toke me vp, & in a vision (which came by the spryte of God) it brought me vp agayne into Caldea among the presoners. Then the vision that I had sene, vanyshed awaye fro me.

⁵ I lift vp mine eyes, and loked: and beholde, a man clothed in linen, whose loynes were girded vp with fyne goulde of Araby: ⁶ his body was like the Chrisolite stone, his face (to loke vpon) was like lighteninge, his eyes as the flamme of fyre, his armes and fete were lyke fayre glysterynge metall, but the voyce of his wordes was like the voyce of a multitude. ⁷ I Daniel alone sawe this vision, the men that were with me, sawe it not: but a greate fearfulnesse fell vpon them, so that they fled away & hid them selues. ⁸ I was left there my selfe alone, and sawe this greate vision, so longe till there remayned no more strengthe within me: yea I lost my coloure cleane, I waited awaye, and my strength was gone. ⁹ Yet hearde I the voyce of his wordes: and as sone as I hearde it, fayntnesse came vpon me, and I fell doune flat to the grounde vpon my face. ¹⁰ And beholde, an hande touched me, whyche set me vpon my knees, and vpon the palmes of my handes,

Then opened I my mouthe, & sayde vnto him, that stode before me: O my Lorde, my pointes are lowsed in the vision, and there is no more strength within me: ¹⁷ Howe may my Lordes seruaunt then talke with my Lorde? seynge there is no strength in me: so that I can not take my breth? ¹⁸ Vpon this there touched me agayne, one muche lyke a man, and comforted me, ¹⁹ saying: O thou man so well beloued feare not: be content, take a good herte vnto the, & be strong. So when he had spoken vnto me, I recouered and sayd: Speake on my Lorde, for thou haste refreshed me.

The spirite is ready, & the fleshe is weake. ⁴² He wente awaye once more, & prayed, sayinge: O my father, yf thys cup can not passe awaye from me, but that I drinke of it, thy wyl be fulfylled. ⁴³ And he came and founde them a slepe agayne. For theyr eyes were heauye. ⁴⁴ And he lefte them, and went agayne and prayed the thyrde tyme, sayinge the same wordes.

¹⁹ The dedes of the flesh are manyfeste, which are these aduoutrye, fornicacyon, vncleannes, wantonnes, ²⁰ Idolatrye wytchecrafte, hatred, varyaunce, zele, wrathe stryfe, sedityon, sectes, ²¹ enuiynge, murther, drounkennes, glottonye, and suche lyke: of the whiche I tell you before, as I haue tolde you in tymes past, that they whiche commytte suche thynges shall not enheryte the kingdome of God.

²⁶ Let vs not be vayne gloryouse, prouokynge one another, and enuyinge one another.

³ For by reuelation shewed he this misterie to me as I wrote aboue in fewe wordes,

⁸ Vnto me the leaste of all sainctes is this grace geuen, that I shoulde preache amonge the Gentyls the vnsearcheable ryches of Christe,

¹⁶ that he woulde graunt you accordinge to the ryches of his glorie, that ye maye be strengthed wyth mighte by his spirite in the inner man,

¹⁰ He that descended, is euen the same also that ascended vp euen aboue all heauens, to fulfyll al thinges.

³¹ Let all bitternes, fearsnes and wrath, roring and cursed speakinge, be put awaye from you, wyth all maliciousnes. ³² Be ye courteouse one to another and mercyfull, forgeuynge one another, euen as God for Christes sake forgaue you.

⁵ For this ye knowe, that no whormonger, other vncleane persone, or couetous person, whyche is the worshypper of Images, hath anye inheritaunce in the kyngdome of Christe and of God. ⁶ Let no man deceiue you with vayne wordes. For thorowe suche thinges commeth the wrath of God vpon the children of vnbelefe.

¹⁰ Finally my brethren, be stronge in the Lord and in the power of his myghte.

²² Yf it chaunce me to lyue in the fleshe, that is to me frutefull for to worke, and what to chose ²³ I wote not. I am constrayned of two thinges: I desire to be lowsed and to be wyth Christe, whiche thinge is best of all.

²⁹ For vnto you it is geuen, that not onely ye should beleue on Christ, but also suffre for his sake,

¹⁸ For many walke (of whom I haue tolde you often, and nowe tel you weping) that they are the enemies of the crosse of Christ, ¹⁹ whose ende is dampnation, whose God is theyr belye, and whose glorye is to theyr shame, whiche are worldlye minded.

¹ Therfore my brethren dearlye beloued & lounged for my ioye & crowne, so continue in the Lord, ye beloued.

¹³ I can do al thinges thorowe the helpe of Christe whiche strengtheth me.

¹⁷ not that I desire gyftes, but I desire aboundaunte frute on youre part.

²⁴ Nowe ioye I in my sufferinges which I suffer for you, and fulfyll that whiche is behinde of the passions of Christe in my fleshe for his bodies sake, which is the congregacion,

²⁸ whome we preache, warning all men and teachinge all men in all wisdom, to make all men perfect in Christ Iesu. ²⁹ Wherin I also labour and stryue euen as farforth as his workinge worketh in me mightely.

⁵ Mortifie therfore, youre members whiche are on the earth, fornicacion, vnclenes, vnnatural, lust euil concupiscence, and couetousnesse, which is worshippinge of Idolles,

³ Oure exhortacyon was not to bringe you to erroure, nor yet to vnclennes, neyther was it wyth gile,

⁵ Neither was our conuersacyon at anye tyme wyth flatterynge wordes, as ye well knowe neyther in cloked couetousnes, god is record:

¹¹ as ye know howe that we exhorted and comforted, and besoughte euerye one of you, as a father hys chyldren,

³ For this is the will of God, euen that ye shoulde be holy, and that ye shoulde abstayne from fornicacion, ⁴ that euerye one of you should know, howe to kepe his vessell in holynes and honoure, ⁵ and not in the luste of concupiscence, as do the heathen, which know not God, ⁶ that no man go to far and defraude his brother in bargaining: because the Lorde is a reuenger of al suche thinges as we tolde you before tyme and testified. ⁷ For God hath not called vs to vncleanes, but vnto holines.

¹⁷ then shal we which lyue and remayne, be caught vp with them also in the cloudes, to meate the Lorde in the ayer. And so shall we euer be with the Lord.

⁴ so that we oure selues reioyse of you in the congregacions of GOD ouer youre pacience and fayth in al youre persecucyons and trybulacyons that ye suffer,

⁶ He maye not be a yong scholer, lest he swell and fall into the iudgement of the euyll speaker.

¹⁰ Here fore I suffre all thynges, for the electes sakes, that they myghte also obtayne the saluacyon, which is in Christe Iesus, with eternal glory.

¹⁶ Let vs therfore go boldely vnto the seate of grace, that we may receiue mercye, and fynde grace to healpe in time of nede.

⁷ Which in the daies of his flesh did offer vp praiers and supplications, wyth strong criynge and teares, vnto him that was able to saue hym from death, and was also hearde because of his Godlines.

²⁴ For Christe is not entred into the holye places that are made wyth handes, whiche are but simylytudes of true thynges: but is entred into verye heauen, for to appere nowe in the syghte of God for vs:

³⁴ quenched the vyolence of fyre, escaped the edge of the swearde, of weake were made stronge, waxed valyaunte in fyght, turned to flyghte the armyes of the alientes.

⁴ Let wedlocke be had in pryce in all poyntes, and let the chambre be vndefyled: for whorekepers and aduouterers God wyll iudge.

¹⁷ Obeye them that haue the ouersyghte of you, and submyt your selues to them, for they watche for youre soules, euen as they that muste geue accomptes: that they maye do it wyth ioye, and not wyth griefe. For that is an vnprofytable thynge for you.

² My brethren, count it excedyng ioye when ye fal into dyuers temptacyons,

¹⁴ But, yf ye haue bitter enuyinge and strife in youre hertes, reioyce not: neyther be lyars agaynste the trueth. ¹⁵ Thys wysedome descendeth not from aboue: but is earthye, & naturall, and deuelyshe: ¹⁶ For where enuiynge and stryfe is there is vnstablenes and all maner of euyll workes.

¹ From whence commeth warre & fyghtynge amonge you: come they not hear hence? euen of your voluptuousnes, that rayne in youre membres. ² Ye luste & haue not. Ye enuye and haue dignacyon, and cannot obtayne. Ye fyght and war and haue not, because ye axe not. ³ Ye axe and receyue not, because ye axe a mysse: euen to consume it vpon youre voluptuousnes ⁴ Ye aduouterers, & women that breake matrimonye: knowe ye not, how that the frendeshyppe of the worlde is enmitie to God warde? Who so euer wyl be a frende of the worlde, is made the enemy of God. ⁵ Eyther do ye thynke that the scrypture sayeth in vayne. The spyryte that dwelleth in you lusteth euen contrarye to enuye:

⁶ in the whiche tyme ye shall reioyce, thoughe nowe for a season (yf nede requyre) ye are in heauynes, thorow manyfolde temptacyon, ⁷ that youre faythe ones tryed beynge muche more precyous, then golde that perysheth (though it be tryed with fyre) myghte be founde vnto laude, glory, and honoure, at the apearynge of Iesus Christ

¹ Wherfore laye a syde all malycyousnes, and all gyle, and dyssymulacyon, and enuye, and all backbytynge:

³ If so be that ye haue tasted howe pleasaunt the Lorde is,

²¹ for here vnto verelye were ye called: for Christe also suffered for vs, leauynge vs an ensample that we shoulde folowe his steppes,

² that he hence forwarde shoulde lyue as muche tyme as remayneth in the fleshe, not after the iustes of men, but after the wyl of God. ³ For it is sufficient for vs, that we haue spent the time that is past of the lyfe, after the wil of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, dronckennes, in eatinge, drinkinge & in abominable Idolatrie.

¹³ but reioice in as much as ye are partakers of Christes passions, that when his glory appereth, ye maye be mery and glad. ¹⁴ If ye be railed vpon for the name of Christ, happie are ye. For the spyryte of glorye, and the spyryte of Gad resteth vpon you. On theyr parte he is euyll spoken of, but on your parte he is glorified.

² se that ye fede Christes flocke, which is amonge you, takinge the ouersight of them, not as though ye were compelled therto, but wyllingly, not for the desire of fylthy lucre, but of a good minde, ³ not as though ye were Lordes ouer the parishes, but that ye be an ensample to the flocke. ⁴ And when the chiefe shephearde shal appere, ye shal receiue an incorruptible crowne of glorie.

¹⁰ namely them that walke after the fleshe in the luste of vncleanes, and despyse the rulars. Presumpteous are they, & stubborne and feare not to speake euyl of them that are in authoritie. ¹¹ When the angels which are greater both in power and might, receiue not of the Lorde railing iudgement agaynste them. ¹² But these as brute beastes naturallye made to be taken and destroyed, speake euyll of that they knowe not, and shal perishe thorow their owne destruccion, ¹³ and receiue the reward of vnrightuousnes. They count it pleasure to lyue deliciously for a season. Spottes they are and filthines, liuinge at pleasure, and in disceiueable waies feastinge with you, ¹⁴ hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed children,

¹⁸ For when they haue spoken the swellinge wordes of vanitie, they begyle with wantonnes thorowe the lustes of the fleshe, them that were cleane escaped, but nowe are wrapped in errours.

²⁰ We know, that the sonne of God is come, & hath geuen vs a minde to know him which is true, & we are in him, that is true thorowe his sonne Iesus Christ. This same is verye God, and eternal lyfe.

⁷ euen as Sodome and Gomor, and the cytyes about them (which in lyke maner defyled them selues with fornicacyon, and folowed straunge fleshe) are sette forth for an ensample, and suffer the vengeaunce of eternal fyre.

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complayners, walkyng after theyr owne iustes, whose mouthes speake proud thinges. They haue men in great reuerence because of vauntage.

²³ and other saue wyth feare, pullynge them oute of the fyre, and hate the fylthy vesture of the flesh.

¹⁰ I was in the spirite on a sondaye, and hearde behynde me a great voyce, as it had bene of a trompe,

³ and dydest washe thy selfe. And hast pacience, and for my names sake hast labored and hast not faynted:

⁷ Let him that hath eares heare, what the spirite sayeth vnto the congregacions. To him that ouercommeth, wyl I geue to eate of the tree of lyfe, whyche is in the middes of the Paradyse of God.

² And immediatly I was in the spyryte: and behold a seate was put in heauen, and one sate on the seate.

⁵ And she brought furth a man chyld, which should rule al nacyons wyth a rod of Iron. And her sonne was taken vp vnto God, and to hys seate.

⁸ But the fearful and vnbeleuing, & the abhominable, & murtherers, & whoremongers, & sorcerers, & ydolaters, & al lyars shall haue their parte in the lake which burneth wt fyre & brymstone, which is the seconde death.

¹⁵ For without shal be dogges & inchaunters, & whoremongers, and murtherers & Idolaters and whosoeuer loueth or maketh leasynges.

²⁰ He which testifyeth these thynges sayeth: be it, I come quickly, Amen. Euen so: come Lord Iesu.
