¹⁷ The sons of Jeconiah the Prisoner were Shealtiel, ¹⁸ Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama and Nedabiah. ¹⁹ The sons of Pedaiah were Zerubbabel and Shimei. The sons of Zerubbabel, Meshullam, Hananiah and Shelomith their sister,

¹ These are the children of the land that went up out of the captivity, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and in Judah, every one unto his city; ² and came with Zerubbabel: Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum and Baanah. This is now the number of the men of the people of Israel:

⁸ In the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem: and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and above, to see that the work of the house of the LORD went forward.

² they came to Zerubbabel and to the principal fathers, and said unto them, "We will build with you: for we seek the Lord your God like as ye do. And we have done sacrifice unto him, since the time that Esarhaddon the king of Assyria brought us up hither."

² Then gat up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God at Jerusalem, and with them the Prophets of God which strengthened them.

⁷ which came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nahum, Baanah. This is the number of the men of the people of Israel.

² Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah, ³ Pashhur, Amariah, Malchiah, ⁴ Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch, ⁵ Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah, ⁶ Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch, ⁷ Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin, ⁸ Maaziah, Bilgai and Shemaiah: these were priests.

¹⁰ Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim begat Eliashib, Eliashib begat Joiada.

¹² And in the time of Joiakim were these the chief fathers among the priests: under Seraiah was Meraiah; under Jeremiah was Hananiah; ¹³ under Ezra, Meshullam; under Amariah, Jehohanan; ¹⁴ under Malluchi, Jonathan; under Shebaniah, Joseph; ¹⁵ under Harim, Adna; under Meraioth, Helkai; ¹⁶ under Iddo, Zechariah; under Ginnethon, Meshullam; ¹⁷ under Abijah, Zichri; under Miniamin and Moadiah Piltai; ¹⁸ under Bilgah, Shammua; under Shemaiah, Jehonathan; ¹⁹ under Joiarib, Mattenai; under Jedaiah, Uzzi; ²⁰ under Sallai, Kallai; under Amok, Eber; ²¹ under Hilkiah, Hashabiah; under Jedaiah, Nethanel.

¹ In the second year of king Darius, in the sixth month, the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the Prophet Haggai, unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel the prince of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jozadak the high priest, saying,

¹² Now when Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jozadak the high priest, with the remnant of the people, heard the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of the Prophet Haggai, like as the LORD their God had sent him, the people did fear the LORD.

¹⁴ So the LORD waked up the spirit of Zerubbabel the prince of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jozadak the high priest, and the spirit of the remnant of all the people: that they came and laboured, in the house of the LORD of Hosts their God.

² "Speak to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel prince of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jozadak the high priest, and to the residue of the people, and say,

²¹ "Speak to Zerubbabel the prince of Judah, and say, 'I will shake both heaven and earth, ²² and overthrow the seat of the kingdoms, yea and destroy the mighty kingdom of the Heathen. I will overthrow the chariots, and those that sit upon then, so that both horse and man shall fall down, every man through his neighbour's sword. ²³ And as for thee, O Zerubbabel, sayeth the LORD of Hosts, thou son of Shealtiel my servant: I will take thee, sayeth the LORD, at the same time: and make thee as a seal. For I have chosen thee, sayeth the LORD of Hosts.'"

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest, standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan stood at his righthand to resist him. ² And the LORD said unto Satan, 'The LORD reprove thee, thou Satan; yea, the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem, reprove thee. Is not this a brand taken out of the fire?' ³ Now Joshua was clothed in unclean raiment, and stood before the angel: ⁴ Which answered and said unto those that stood before him, 'Take away the foul clothes from him.' And unto him he said, 'Behold, I have taken away thy sin from thee, and will deck thee with change of raiment.' ⁵ He said moreover, 'Set a fair mitre upon his head; So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and put on clothes upon him, and the angel of the LORD stood there. ⁶ Then the angel of the LORD testified unto Joshua, and spake, ⁷ 'Thus sayeth the LORD of Hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and keep my watch: thou shalt rule my house, and keep my courts, and I will give thee place among these that stand here. ⁸ "'Hear O Joshua thou high priest: thou and thy friends that dwell before thee, for they are wondrous people. Behold, I will bring forth the branch of my servant: ⁹ for lo, the stone that I have laid before Joshua: upon one stone shall be seven eyes. Behold, I will hew him out, sayeth the LORD of Hosts, and take away the sin of that land in one day.

⁶ He answered, and said unto me, 'This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying: Neither through a host of men, nor through strength, but through my spirit, sayeth the LORD of Hosts. ⁷ What art thou, thou great mountain, before Zerubbabel? Thou must be made even. And he shall bring up the first stone so that men shall cry unto him, 'Good luck, good luck!'' ⁸ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, ⁹ 'The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house. His hands also shall finish it: that ye may know, how that the LORD of Hosts hath sent me unto you. ¹⁰ For he that hath been despised a little season, shall rejoice, when he seeth the tin weight in Zerubbabel's hand. The seven eyes are the LORD's, which go through the whole world.'

¹¹ Then take gold and silver, and make crowns thereof, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Jozadak, the high priest.

¹² And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechoniah begat Shealtiel: Shealtiel begat Zerubbabel; ¹³ Zerubbabel begat Abiud; Abiud begat Eliakim; Eliakim begat Azor;
