¹ And it happened as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, one of His disciples said to Him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught His disciples.

¹⁷ Jehovah, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart, You will cause Your ear to hear,

¹⁴ Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Jehovah, my Rock and my Redeemer.

¹² And it happened in those days that He went out into a mountain to pray, and He was spending the night in prayer to God.

¹⁸ And it happened as He was alone praying, the disciples were with Him. And He asked them, saying, Whom do the crowds say that I am?

²⁸ And about eight days after these sayings, He took Peter and John and James and went up into a mountain to pray.

³⁹ And going out, according to His custom, He went to the Mount of Olives. And His disciples also followed Him. ⁴⁰ And when He was at the place, He said to them, Pray that you do not enter into temptation. ⁴¹ And He was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw. And He kneeled down and prayed, ⁴² saying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done. ⁴³ And an angel appeared to Him from Heaven, strengthening Him. ⁴⁴ And being in an agony He prayed more earnestly. And His sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. ⁴⁵ And when He rose up from prayer and had come to His disciples, He found them sleeping because of sorrow.

²⁶ Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ²⁷ And He searching the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

⁷ For Jesus, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications with strong cryings and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared,

² You desire, and do not have. You murder, and are jealous, and cannot obtain. You fight and war, yet you have not because you ask not. ³ You ask and receive not, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your lusts.

²⁰ But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
