¹ And they set out from Elim, and all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came to the desert of Sin, which is between Elim _⌊and Sinai_⌋,* in the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt. ² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert. ³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger." ⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Look, I am going to rain down for you bread from the heavens, and the people will go out and gather enough for the day on its day; in that way I will test them: Will they go according to my law or not? ⁵ And then on the sixth day, they will prepare what they bring, and it will be twice over what they will gather every other day." ⁶ And Moses and Aaron said to all the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "In the evening, you will know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt, ⁷ and in the morning, you will see the glory of Yahweh, _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings against Yahweh, and what are we that you grumble against us?" ⁸ And Moses said, "When in the evening Yahweh gives you meat to eat and bread in the morning _⌊to fill up on_⌋,* _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings that you grumble against him—and what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against Yahweh." ⁹ And Moses said to Aaron, "Say to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'Come near before Yahweh because he has heard your grumblings.'" ¹⁰ And at the moment of Aaron's speaking to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* they turned to the desert, _⌊and just then_⌋* the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud. ¹¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹² "I have heard the grumblings of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* Speak to them, saying, '_⌊At twilight_⌋* you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be full with bread, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God.'" ¹³ And so it was, in the evening, the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning, a layer of dew was all around the camp. ¹⁴ And the layer of dew came up, _⌊and there_⌋* on the face of the desert was a fine granular substance, fine like frost on the ground. ¹⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* saw, and they said _⌊to each other_⌋,* "What is this?" because they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "That is the bread that Yahweh has given to you as food. ¹⁶ This is the word that Yahweh commanded, 'Gather from it, _⌊each according to what he can eat_⌋,* an omer per person* according to the number of you.* You each shall take enough for whoever is in his tent.'" ¹⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did so, and they gathered, some more and some less. ¹⁸ And when they measured with the omer, the one gathering more had no surplus, and the one gathering less had no lack; they gathered _⌊each according to what he could eat_⌋.* ¹⁹ And Moses said to them, "Let no one leave any of it until morning." ²⁰ But they did not listen to Moses. Some people* left some of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them. ²¹ And they gathered it morning by morning, _⌊each according to what he could eat_⌋,* and it melted when the sun was hot.* ²² And when it was the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one person, and all the leaders of the community came and told Moses. ²³ And he said to them, "This is what Yahweh has said. Tomorrow is a rest period, a holy Sabbath for Yahweh. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil. Put aside all the surplus for yourselves for safekeeping until the morning." ²⁴ And they put it aside until the morning, as Moses had commanded, and it did not make a stench, and not a maggot was in it. ²⁵ And Moses said, "Eat it today, because today is a Sabbath for Yahweh. Today you will not find it in the field. ²⁶ Six days you will gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, it will not be present on it." ²⁷ And on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, and they did not find any. ²⁸ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long do you* refuse to keep my commands and my laws? ²⁹ See, because Yahweh has given to you the Sabbath, therefore he is giving to you on the sixth day bread for two days. Stay, _⌊each in his location_⌋;* let no one go from his place on the seventh day." ³⁰ And the people rested on the seventh day. ³¹ And the house of Israel called its name "manna." And it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like a wafer with honey. ³² And Moses said, "This is the word that Yahweh has commanded. 'A full omer of it is for safekeeping for your generations so that they will see the bread that I fed you in the desert when I brought you from the land of Egypt.'" ³³ And Moses said to Aaron, "Take one jar and put there a full omer of manna. Leave it before Yahweh for safekeeping for your generations." ³⁴ As Yahweh had commanded Moses, so Aaron left it before the testimony for safekeeping. ³⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* ate the manna forty years, until their coming to an inhabited land; they ate the manna until their coming to the border of the land of Canaan. ³⁶ (And an omer is a tenth of an ephah.)

²⁷ And they came to Elim, and twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees were there, and they encamped there at the water.

¹ And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out from the desert of Sin for their journeys according to the command of Yahweh, and they camped in Rephidim, and there was no water for the people to drink.

¹⁰ They set out from Elim, and they camped at the _⌊Red Sea_⌋.* ¹¹ They set out from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* and camped at the desert of Sin. ¹² They set out from the desert of Sin and camped at Dophkah.

¹⁵ I will pour out my rage over Sin, the stronghold of Egypt, and I will cut off the crowd* of No.* ¹⁶ And I will set fire in Egypt, certainly Sin will writhe, and No* will be breached, and Memphis will face enemies _⌊daily_⌋.*

⁴ Before they laid down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people _⌊to the last man_⌋,* surrounded the house.

¹¹ And they said to Moses, "Because there are no graves in Egypt? Is that why you have taken us to die in the desert? What is this you have done to us by bringing us out from Egypt!

²⁴ And the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"

⁷ Our ancestors* in Egypt did not understand your wonderful works. They did not remember your many acts of loyal love, and so they rebelled by the sea at _⌊the Red Sea_⌋.*

¹³ They quickly forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel.

²⁵ but grumbled in their tents. They did not obey the voice of Yahweh.

¹⁰ nor grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

²³ _⌊And then_⌋* during those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* groaned because of the work, and they cried out, and their cry for help because of the work went up to God.

²¹ And they said to them, "May Yahweh look upon you and judge because you have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants so as to put a sword into their hand to kill us."

³ And the people thirsted for water, and the people grumbled against Moses and said, "Why _⌊ever_⌋* did you bring us up from Egypt to kill me* and my sons and my cattle with thirst?"

⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat? ⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic.

¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery."

² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert!

¹³ Is it too little that you have brought us from a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, and that you also appoint yourself as a ruler over us?

⁴¹ The next day all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, "You have killed the people of Yahweh!"

³ And the people quarreled with Moses and spoke, saying, "If only we died when our brothers were dying _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh! ⁴ Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh, us and our livestock, into this desert to die here? ⁵ Why have you brought us from Egypt to bring us to this bad place? It is not a place of seed or figs* or vines* or pomegranate trees,* and there is not water to drink."

³ And he humbled you and let you go hungry, and then he fed you with that which you did not know nor did your ancestors* know, in order to make you know that not by bread alone but by all that goes out* of the mouth of Yahweh humankind shall live.

⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, '_⌊If only it was evening_⌋!'* and in the evening you shall say '_⌊If only it was morning_⌋!'* because of the dread of your heart that you shall feel, and because of the sight of your eyes that you shall see.

⁷ And Joshua said, "Ah, my Lord! Why did you bring this people across the Jordan to give us into the hand of the Amorites to destroy us? If only we had been content and stayed beyond the Jordan.

³³ * The king was upset, and he went up to the upper room of the gate and wept. He said as he went, "My son, Absalom, my son, my son, Absalom. _⌊If only_⌋* I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son."

¹ _⌊Afterward_⌋* Job opened his mouth and cursed* his day.

¹⁰ because it did not shut the doors of my mother's womb, nor* did it hide trouble from my eyes.

²⁰ "Why does he* give light to one in misery and life to those bitter of soul,

⁶ And they did not say, 'Where is Yahweh, the one who brought us up from the land of Egypt, the one who led us in the desert,* in a land of desert plains and gorges,* in a land of dryness and deep darkness, in a land _⌊that no one passes through_⌋,* and no human lives there?'

¹⁴ Cursed be the day on which I was born, let not the day on which my mother gave birth to me be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, _⌊saying_⌋,* "A child is born to you, a son!" and he made him very glad. ¹⁶ And let that man be like the cities that Yahweh demolished without regret, and let him hear a cry for help in the morning, and an alarm at the time of noon. ¹⁷ Because he did not kill me in the womb, so that my mother would have been for me my grave, and her womb would be pregnant forever. ¹⁸ _⌊Why_⌋* did I come out from the womb, to see toil, and sorrow, and to _⌊end my days in shame_⌋?*

⁹ Happier were the victims of the sword than the victims of famine; they have pined away, very hungry for the crops of my field.

⁸ _⌊And when the sun rose_⌋,* God appointed a scorching east wind, and the sun beat down on Jonah's head and he grew faint. _⌊And he asked that he could die_⌋* and said, "My death is better than my life!" ⁹ So God said to Jonah, "_⌊Is it right for you to be angry_⌋* about the plant?" And he said, "_⌊It is right for me to be angry enough to die_⌋!"*

²⁹ And Paul replied, "I pray to God, whether in a short time or in a long time, not only you but also all those who are listening to me today may become such people as I also am, except for these bonds!"

⁸ Already you are satiated! Already you are rich! Apart from us you reign as kings! And would that indeed you reigned as kings, in order that we also might reign as kings with you!

¹ I wish that you would put up with me _⌊in something a little foolish_⌋*—but indeed you are putting up with me.

²⁵ And he cried out to Yahweh, and Yahweh showed him a piece of wood, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There he made a rule and regulation for them, and there he tested them.

² And you shall remember all of the way that Yahweh your God led you during these forty years in the desert in order to humble you and to test you to know what is in your heart, whether you would diligently keep his commandments or not.

¹⁶ the one _⌊feeding you_⌋* manna in the desert, food that your ancestors* did not know, in order to humble you and in order to test you so that he could do good to you _⌊in the future_⌋.*

¹⁵ But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river,* or the gods of the Amorites* in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh."

¹⁵ You gave them bread from heaven for their starvation, and you caused water to go out from a rock for their thirst. You told them to go in order to take into possession the land that you have sworn by your hand to give to them.

²³ For there was a command of the king concerning them and a regulation concerning the singers, required _⌊day by day_⌋.*

²⁴ and rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven. ²⁵ Humankind ate the bread of _⌊angels_⌋.* He sent them food enough to be satisfied.

⁴⁰ They* asked, and he brought quail, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven.

⁸ Keep falsehood and a _⌊lying word_⌋* far from me; do not give me poverty or wealth; provide me with food only for my need.

¹¹ Give us today our daily bread,

³² for the pagans seek after all these things. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ³³ But seek first his kingdom and righteousness,* and all these things will be added to you.

³ Give us each day our daily bread.

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'* ³² Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, Moses did not give you bread from heaven, but my Father is giving you the true bread from heaven!

³ and all ate the same spiritual food,

²² And when it was the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one person, and all the leaders of the community came and told Moses. ²³ And he said to them, "This is what Yahweh has said. Tomorrow is a rest period, a holy Sabbath for Yahweh. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil. Put aside all the surplus for yourselves for safekeeping until the morning."

² On six days work can be done, and on the seventh there will be for you a holy day,* a _⌊Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on it will be put to death. ³ You will not kindle a fire in any of your dwellings on the day of the Sabbath."

²¹ then* I will command my blessing for you* in the sixth year, so that* it will make* the yield for three years. ²² And you* will sow in the eighth year, and you shall eat from the old yield;* until the ninth year, until the coming of its yield, you shall eat the old yield.

⁷ And I will take you _⌊as my people_⌋,* and I will be _⌊your God_⌋,* and you will know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt.

⁵¹ And it was on exactly this day Yahweh brought the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from the land of Egypt by their divisions.

³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

⁸ And Moses said, "When in the evening Yahweh gives you meat to eat and bread in the morning _⌊to fill up on_⌋,* _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings that you grumble against him—and what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against Yahweh."

¹² "I have heard the grumblings of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* Speak to them, saying, '_⌊At twilight_⌋* you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be full with bread, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God.'" ¹³ And so it was, in the evening, the quail came up and covered the camp, and in the morning, a layer of dew was all around the camp.

¹ And the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, and the people gathered opposite Aaron, and they said to him, "Come,* make for us gods who will go before us, because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him."

⁷ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go down because your people behave corruptly, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt.

¹¹ And Moses _⌊implored Yahweh_⌋* his God, and he said, "Why, Yahweh, should _⌊your anger blaze_⌋* against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand?

²⁸ And Moses said, "In this you will know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; it is not from my heart.

³⁰ But if Yahweh creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up and _⌊all that belongs to them_⌋,* and they go down alive to Sheol, and you will know that these men have despised Yahweh."

²⁰ You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

¹¹ Then* his people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is the one who led up them from the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is the one who puts _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋* inside him, ¹² _⌊who made_⌋* his magnificent arm move _⌊at_⌋* the right hand of Moses, _⌊who divided_⌋* the waters _⌊before them_⌋,* to make an everlasting name for himself,

² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert. ³ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* said to them, "_⌊If only we had died_⌋* by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots* of meat, when we ate bread _⌊until we were full_⌋,* because you have brought us out to this desert to kill all of this assembly with hunger."

¹⁰ And at the moment of Aaron's speaking to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* they turned to the desert, _⌊and just then_⌋* the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.

¹² "I have heard the grumblings of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* Speak to them, saying, '_⌊At twilight_⌋* you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be full with bread, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God.'"

¹⁰ And they saw the God of Israel, and what was under his feet was like sapphire tile work and like the very heavens for clearness.

¹⁶ And the glory of Yahweh settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days, and he called to Moses on the seventh day from the midst of the cloud.

³⁴ And the cloud covered the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle.

⁶ Then* Moses said, "This is the word that Yahweh commanded you* to do _⌊so that_⌋* the glory of Yahweh might appear to you."*

¹⁰ And all the community said to stone them with stones, but the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tent of assembly among the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

²⁷ "How long will I bear this evil community who are grumbling against me? I have heard the grumbling of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* which _⌊they are making_⌋* against me.

¹¹ Therefore you and your company that has banded together against Yahweh. What is Aaron that you grumble against him?"

⁴² Then, when the community had gathered against Moses and Aaron, they turned to the tent of assembly, and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Yahweh appeared.

² It shall blossom abundantly, and it shall rejoice indeed with rejoicing and exulting. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. _⌊They are the ones who_⌋* shall see the glory of Yahweh, the majesty of our God.

⁵ And the glory of Yahweh shall be revealed, and all _⌊humankind_⌋* together shall see it,
for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken."

⁴ And when he* heard it,* Jesus said, "This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, in order that the Son of God may be glorified through it."

⁴⁰ Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?"

⁹ And Moses said to Aaron, "Say to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'Come near before Yahweh because he has heard your grumblings.'"

⁷ The people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned because we have spoken against Yahweh and against you. Pray to Yahweh and let him remove the snakes* from among us." So Moses prayed for the people.

⁷ Then Yahweh said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people concerning all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me from being king over them.

⁶ For a fool speaks folly, and his _⌊mind_⌋* does iniquity: to _⌊behave wickedly_⌋,* and to speak error concerning Yahweh, to leave the throat of the hungry empty, and he deprives the thirsty of drink.

²⁹ Because you were enraged _⌊against_⌋* me, and your noise* has come up to* my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle on your lips, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.

⁴ And knowing* their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts?

⁴⁰ "The one who receives you receives me, and the one who receives me receives the one who sent me.

¹⁶ The one who listens to you listens to me, and the one who rejects you rejects me. But the one who rejects me rejects the one who sent me."

⁴¹ Now the Jews began to grumble* about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," ⁴² and they were saying, "Is this one not Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" ⁴³ Jesus answered and said to them, "Do not grumble _⌊among yourselves_⌋!*

²⁰ Truly, truly I say to you, the one who receives anyone I send receives me, and the one who receives me receives the one who sent me."

² So then, the one who resists authority resists the ordinance which is from God, and those who resist will receive condemnation on themselves.

⁸ Therefore the one who rejects this is not rejecting man, but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.

² And all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and against Aaron in the desert.

¹⁶ And Moses said to Korah, "You and your entire company will be _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh tomorrow, you and they and Aaron.

²¹ And Yahweh was going before them by day in a column of cloud to lead them on the way and by night in a column of fire to give light to them to go by day and night. ²² The column of cloud by day and the column of fire by night did not depart from before the people.

⁷ and in the morning, you will see the glory of Yahweh, _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings against Yahweh, and what are we that you grumble against us?"

³⁴ And the cloud covered the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. ³⁵ And Moses was unable to go into the tent of assembly because the cloud settled on it and the glory of Yahweh filled the tabernacle. ³⁶ And when the cloud was lifted from the tabernacle, the _⌊Israelites_⌋* set out on all their journeys. ³⁷ But if the cloud was not lifted, they did not set out until the day of its being lifted. ³⁸ For the cloud of Yahweh was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night before the eyes of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.

¹⁹ And Korah summoned them, the entire community, by the doorway of the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to all the community.

¹⁰ When the priests went out from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of Yahweh. ¹¹ The priests were not able to stand to minister _⌊because of the presence of_⌋* the cloud, for the glory of Yahweh filled the house of Yahweh.

⁵ While* he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice from the cloud said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

⁵ "so that they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,* appeared to you, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob."

¹⁷ Thus says Yahweh, "By this you will know that I am Yahweh. Look, I am about to strike with the staff that is in my hand the water that is in the Nile, and it will be changed to blood.

⁷ and in the morning, you will see the glory of Yahweh, _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings against Yahweh, and what are we that you grumble against us?" ⁸ And Moses said, "When in the evening Yahweh gives you meat to eat and bread in the morning _⌊to fill up on_⌋,* _⌊for he hears_⌋* your grumblings that you grumble against him—and what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against Yahweh."

²⁴ And Judah and all of its towns together will live in it, farmers and those who travel with the flocks.*

³⁰ And they will know that I, Yahweh their God, am with them and they are my people, the house of Israel," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh,

²² "And the house of Israel will know that I am Yahweh their God from that day and beyond,

¹⁷ And you will know that I, Yahweh your God, am dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain. And Jerusalem will be a place of holiness, and strangers will pass through it no longer.

⁹ And I will bring the remaining third into the fire, and I will refine them like one refines silver, and I will test them like one tests gold. They* will call my name, and I will answer them.* I will say, 'They* are my people,' and they* will say, 'Yahweh is my God.'"

⁹ When the dew came down on the camp at night, the manna came down with it.

³¹ Then a wind set out from Yahweh, and it drove quails from the west, and he spread them out on the camp about a day's journey on one side and about a day's journey on the other, all around the camp, about two cubits on the surface of the land. ³² And so the people _⌊worked_⌋* all day and all night and all the next day, and they gathered the quail (the least of the ones collecting gathered ten homers).* ³³ While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, Yahweh was angry with the people, and Yahweh struck a very great plague among the people.

²⁷ Then he rained meat on them like dust, even winged birds* like the sand of the seas. ²⁸ He caused them to fall in the midst of his camp, all around his dwellings.

³¹ And the house of Israel called its name "manna." And it was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like a wafer with honey.

⁷ Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its outward appearance was like that of bdellium-gum. ⁸ The people went about and gathered it, and they ground it with mills or crushed it with mortar. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into bread-cakes; and it tasted like olive oil cakes. ⁹ When the dew came down on the camp at night, the manna came down with it.

²⁴ and rained down on them manna to eat and gave them the grain of heaven.

¹⁶ He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes;

⁴ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Look, I am going to rain down for you bread from the heavens, and the people will go out and gather enough for the day on its day; in that way I will test them: Will they go according to my law or not?

³³ And Moses said to Aaron, "Take one jar and put there a full omer of manna. Leave it before Yahweh for safekeeping for your generations."

⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food."

¹² And the manna ceased the day after, when they started eating the produce of the land, and there was no longer manna for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* They ate from the crop of the land of Canaan in that year.

²⁰ And you gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst.

⁵ "Come, eat with my bread; drink with the wine I have mixed.

³⁰ For all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your Father knows that you need these things.

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.

⁵⁸ This is the bread that came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. The one who eats* this bread will live _⌊forever_⌋."*

⁴ containing the golden incense altar and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which were a golden jar containing the manna and the rod of Aaron that budded and the tablets of the covenant.

¹⁷ The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give to him some of the hidden manna, and I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, that no one knows except the one who receives it.'

¹⁸ And when they measured with the omer, the one gathering more had no surplus, and the one gathering less had no lack; they gathered _⌊each according to what he could eat_⌋.*

³² And Moses said, "This is the word that Yahweh has commanded. 'A full omer of it is for safekeeping for your generations so that they will see the bread that I fed you in the desert when I brought you from the land of Egypt.'" ³³ And Moses said to Aaron, "Take one jar and put there a full omer of manna. Leave it before Yahweh for safekeeping for your generations."

³⁶ (And an omer is a tenth of an ephah.)

¹⁴ At the present time your abundance will be for their need, in order that their abundance may also be for your need, so that there may be equality, ¹⁵ just as it is written, "The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little."*

¹⁰ And you must not leave any of it until morning; anything left from it until morning you must burn in the fire.

²³ And he said to them, "This is what Yahweh has said. Tomorrow is a rest period, a holy Sabbath for Yahweh. Bake what you want to bake, and boil what you want to boil. Put aside all the surplus for yourselves for safekeeping until the morning."

¹⁸ " 'You will not sacrifice the blood of my sacrifice together with food with yeast, and you will not leave the fat of my feast overnight until morning.

³⁴ Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, because tomorrow will be anxious for itself. _⌊Each day has enough trouble of its own._⌋*

³ Now the man, Moses, was more humble than any other person on the face of the earth,

¹⁵ Then Moses became angry, and he said to Yahweh, "Do not notice their grain offering. I have not offered one donkey from them, and I have not mistreated one of them."

¹⁹ "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and consuming insect* destroy and where thieves break in and steal,

⁵ And looking around at them with anger, grieved at the hardness of their hearts, he said to the man, "Stretch out your* hand." And he stretched it* out, and his hand was restored.

¹⁴ But when* Jesus saw it,* he was indignant, and said to them, "Let the young children come to me. Do not forbid them, _⌊for to such belongs_⌋* the kingdom of God.

¹⁵ And he said to them, "Watch out and guard yourselves from all greediness, because not even when someone has an abundance _⌊does_⌋* his life consist of his possessions."

³³ Sell your possessions and give charitable gifts. Make for yourselves money bags that do not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven* where thief does not approach or moth destroy.

²⁶ Be angry and do not sin;* do not let the sun set on your anger,

⁵ Your lifestyle must be free from the love of money, being content with what you have. For he himself has said, "I will never desert you, and I will never abandon you."*

² Your wealth has rotted, and your clothing has become moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver have become corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you, and it will consume your flesh like fire. You have stored up treasure in the last days.

⁶ Go to the ant, lazy! Consider its ways and be wise. ⁷ It has no chief, officer, or ruler. ⁸ In the summer, it prepares its food; in the harvest, it gathers its sustenance. ⁹ How long will you lie down, lazy? When will you rise up from your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands for rest— ¹¹ like a _⌊robber_⌋* shall your poverty come, and what you lack like an armed man.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

¹ Remember your Creator in the days of your youth— before the days of trouble come and the years draw near when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them!"

³³ But seek first his kingdom and righteousness,* and all these things will be added to you.

³⁵ So Jesus said to them, "Yet a little time the light is with you! Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness does not overtake you! And the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

² For he says,
"At the acceptable time I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you."*
Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation!

⁵ And then on the sixth day, they will prepare what they bring, and it will be twice over what they will gather every other day."

¹⁶ This is the word that Yahweh commanded, 'Gather from it, _⌊each according to what he can eat_⌋,* an omer per person* according to the number of you.* You each shall take enough for whoever is in his tent.'"

³¹ And Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the community returned to him, and Moses spoke to them.

¹² Because it is a Jubilee, it shall be holy to you. You must eat its* produce from the field.

²² And you* will sow in the eighth year, and you shall eat from the old yield;* until the ninth year, until the coming of its yield, you shall eat the old yield.

² And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. ³ And God blessed the seventh day, and he sanctified* it, because on it he rested from all his work _⌊of creating that there was to do_⌋.*

⁸ "Remember the day of the Sabbath, to consecrate it. ⁹ Six days you will work, and you will do all your work. ¹⁰ But the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God; you will not do any work—you or your son or your daughter, your male slave or your female slave, or your animal, or your alien who is in your gates— ¹¹ because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and on the seventh day he rested. Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day and consecrated it.

¹² " 'Six days you will do your work, but on the seventh day you will stop so that your ox and your donkey will rest and the son of your slave woman and the alien will be refreshed.

¹⁵ On six days work can be done, and on the seventh _⌊is a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* _⌊a holy day_⌋* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on the Sabbath day will surely be put to death.

³ " 'For six days work is to be done, and on the seventh day shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* a holy assembly; you shall not do any work; it shall be a Sabbath for Yahweh in all your dwellings.

⁸ The people went about and gathered it, and they ground it with mills or crushed it with mortar. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into bread-cakes; and it tasted like olive oil cakes.

²⁷ And he said to them, "The Sabbath was established for people, and not people for the Sabbath. ²⁸ So then, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."

⁵⁶ And they returned and* prepared fragrant spices and perfumes, and on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a great sound like a trumpet

²⁰ But they did not listen to Moses. Some people* left some of it until morning, and it bred worms and stank. And Moses was angry with them.

²⁹ See, because Yahweh has given to you the Sabbath, therefore he is giving to you on the sixth day bread for two days. Stay, _⌊each in his location_⌋;* let no one go from his place on the seventh day."

¹⁴ You made known your holy Sabbath to them and gave them commandments, regulations, and law* by the hand of your servant Moses.

¹³ Six days you shall work, and you shall do all of your work,

¹ Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "The gate of the inner courtyard facing east must be shut on* the six of the days for work, but on the day of the Sabbath it must be opened and on the day of the new moon it must be opened.

¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, answered and* said to the crowd, "There are six days on which it is necessary to work. Therefore come and* be healed on them, and not on the day of the Sabbath!"

⁴ The lazy person will not plow in season; he will expect at the harvest, but there will be nothing.

³ And Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and they said to him, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, 'Until when will you refuse to submit before me? Release my people so that they may serve me.

¹¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long until this people will despise me, and how long until they will not believe in me, and in all the signs that I have done in their* midst?

¹² But Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy _⌊in the sight of_⌋* the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them."

¹⁴ But they did not listen and they stiffened their necks, like the necks of their ancestors* who did not believe in Yahweh their God.

¹⁰ They did not keep the covenant of God and refused to go in his law.*

²² because they did not believe God, and they did not trust his salvation.

¹³ Oh that my people would listen to me; that Israel would walk in my ways. ¹⁴ I would subdue their enemies quickly, and turn my hand against their adversaries.

⁹ And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you do not believe then you will not endure." '"

¹³ Then he said, "Hear, house of David! Is it too little for you to make men weary, that you should also make my God weary?

¹⁴ Cleanse your heart from wickedness, O Jerusalem, so that you may be saved. _⌊How long_⌋* will your thoughts of mischief dwell in your inner part?

⁶ Your dwelling is in the midst of deceit, upon* deceit they refuse to know me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁶ But she has rebelled against my regulations to the point of wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are around her; for they rejected my regulations, and as for my statutes, they did not walk in them.

¹³ "But* in the desert the house of Israel rebelled against me; _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and they rejected my regulations, which, if a person does them, he will live by them, and they greatly profaned my Sabbaths, and I decided to pour out my rage on them in the desert to destroy them,

¹⁶ because they despised my judgments, and _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and my Sabbaths they profaned, for their heart was going after their idols.

¹⁹ And he answered them and* said, "O unbelieving generation! _⌊How long_⌋* will I be with you? _⌊How long_⌋* must I put up with you? Bring him to me!"

¹³ "And you, speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'Surely you must keep my Sabbaths, because it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, in order to know that I am Yahweh, who consecrates you.

¹³ If you hold your foot back from the Sabbath, from doing your affairs on _⌊my holy day_⌋,* if* you call the Sabbath a pleasure, the holy day of Yahweh honorable, if* you honor him _⌊more than_⌋* doing your ways, than finding your affairs* and speaking a word, ¹⁴ then you shall take your pleasure in* Yahweh, and I will make you ride upon the heights of the earth, and I will feed you the heritage of Jacob your ancestor,*
for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken."

¹² And also my Sabbaths I gave to them to be a sign between me and between them _⌊so they would know_⌋* that I, Yahweh, am the one sanctifying them.

¹² 'Observe the _⌊Sabbath day_⌋* to make it holy,* just as Yahweh your God has commanded you. ¹³ Six days you shall work, and you shall do all of your work, ¹⁴ but the seventh day is a Sabbath unto Yahweh your God; you shall not do any work, or your son, or your daughter, or your slave, or your slave woman, or your ox, or your donkey, or any of your domestic animals, or your resident alien who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* so that your slave and your slave woman may rest as you rest.

⁹ Consequently a sabbath rest remains for the people of God.

¹⁵ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* saw, and they said _⌊to each other_⌋,* "What is this?" because they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, "That is the bread that Yahweh has given to you as food.

⁶ But now _⌊our strength is dried up_⌋;* there is nothing whatsoever except _⌊for the manna before us_⌋."*

³ As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. In his shade _⌊I sat down with delight_⌋,* and his fruit was sweet to my palate.

⁵ Remember his wonders that he has done, his signs and the judgments of his mouth,

⁴ He has made his wonders _⌊to be remembered_⌋;* Yahweh is gracious and compassionate. ⁵ He gives food to those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.

¹⁹ And he took bread, and* after* giving thanks, he broke it* and gave it* to them, saying, "This is my body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me."

¹ Because of this, it is all the more necessary that we pay attention to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

¹⁶ And you will put into the ark the testimony that I will give to you.

²¹ And you will put the atonement cover above onto the ark, and into the ark you will put the testimony that I will give you.

²¹ In the tent of assembly outside the curtain that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons will arrange it, from evening until morning, before Yahweh as a lasting statute throughout their generations from the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

⁶ And you will put it before the curtain that is upon the ark of the testimony, before the atonement cover, which is on the testimony, there where I will meet with you.

³⁶ And you will grind part of it to powder, and you will put part of it before the testimony in the tent of assembly where I will meet with you; it will be a most holy thing to you.

¹⁸ And when he finished speaking with him on Mount Sinai, he gave to Moses the two tablets of the testimony, stone tablets, written with the finger of God.

²¹ These are the records of the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the testimony, which were recorded at the _⌊command of_⌋* Moses, the work of the Levites, in the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.

²⁰ And he took and he put the testimony into the ark, and he placed the poles on the ark, and he put the atonement cover on the ark, above it.

⁵⁰ You will _⌊appoint_⌋* them over the tabernacle of the testimony,* over all its vessels, and over all that belongs to it. They will carry the tabernacle and all its vessels, and they will care for it; and they will camp around the tabernacle.

⁵³ But the Levites will encamp around the tabernacle of the testimony,* and there will not be wrath on the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* and the Levites will keep the requirements of the tabernacle of the testimony."*

¹⁰ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Bring back the staff of Aaron before the testimony* as a guard and sign for the children of rebellion, and let them finish their grumblings before me and not die."

⁵ And I turned, and I came down from the mountain, and I put the tablets in the ark that I had made, and they are there, just as Yahweh commanded me.

⁹ There was not anything in the ark _⌊except_⌋* the two tablets of stone which Moses had placed there at Horeb, where Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with the _⌊Israelites_⌋* after they went out from the land of Egypt.

³⁸ Aaron the priest went up to Mount Hor at the _⌊command_⌋* of Yahweh, and he died there in the fortieth year after the _⌊Israelites_⌋* had gone out from the land of Egypt, in the fifth month on the first day of the month.

⁴⁸ They set out from the mountains of Abarim and camped on the desert-plateau of Moab by the Jordan across Jericho. ⁴⁹ They camped by the Jordan, from Beth-Jeshimoth up to Abel Shittim, on the desert-plateau of Moab. ⁵⁰ Then Yahweh spoke to Moses on the desert-plateau of Moab by the Jordan across Jericho, saying,

⁸ Look, I have set the land _⌊before you_⌋;* go and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it to them and to their offspring after them.'

² And you shall remember all of the way that Yahweh your God led you during these forty years in the desert in order to humble you and to test you to know what is in your heart, whether you would diligently keep his commandments or not. ³ And he humbled you and let you go hungry, and then he fed you with that which you did not know nor did your ancestors* know, in order to make you know that not by bread alone but by all that goes out* of the mouth of Yahweh humankind shall live.

¹ Then Moses went up from the desert plateau* of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, _⌊which is opposite_⌋* Jericho, and Yahweh showed him all of the land, Gilead all the way up to Dan, ² and all of Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and all of the land of Judah, up to the western sea,* ³ and the Negev and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palms, on up to Zoar. ⁴ And Yahweh said to him, "This is the land that I swore to Abraham to Isaac and to Jacob, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'To your offspring I will give it.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross _⌊into it_⌋."*

²⁰ And you gave your good Spirit to instruct them and did not withhold your manna from their mouth and gave them water for their thirst. ²¹ Forty years you sustained them in the desert—they were not in need. Their clothing did not wear out and their feet did not swell.

³⁰ So they said to him, "Then what sign will you perform, so that we can see it* and believe you? What will you do? ³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, just as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'* ³² Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, Moses did not give you bread from heaven, but my Father is giving you the true bread from heaven! ³³ For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." ³⁴ So they said to him, "Sir, always give us this bread!" ³⁵ Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me will never be hungry, and the one who believes in me will never be thirsty again. ³⁶ But I said to you that you have seen me and do not believe. ³⁷ Everyone whom the Father gives to me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will never throw out, ³⁸ because I have come down from heaven not that I should do my will, but the will of the one who sent me. ³⁹ Now this is the will of the one who sent me: that everyone whom he has given me, I would not lose any of them,* but raise them* up on the last day. ⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks at the Son and believes in him would have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day." ⁴¹ Now the Jews began to grumble* about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," ⁴² and they were saying, "Is this one not Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" ⁴³ Jesus answered and said to them, "Do not grumble _⌊among yourselves_⌋!* ⁴⁴ No one is able to come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'And they will all be taught by God.'* Everyone who hears from the Father and learns comes to me. ⁴⁶ (Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God—this one has seen the Father.)* ⁴⁷ Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes has eternal life. ⁴⁸ I am the bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died. ⁵⁰ This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that someone may eat from it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats from this bread, he will live _⌊forever_⌋.* And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." ⁵² So the Jews began to quarrel* _⌊among themselves_⌋,* saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves! ⁵⁴ The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ The one who eats* my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me and I in him. ⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so also the one who eats* me—that one will live because of me. ⁵⁸ This is the bread that came down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. The one who eats* this bread will live _⌊forever_⌋."*
