¹⁷ Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. ⁷ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

¹² Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue; ¹³ Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth: ¹⁴ Yet his food in his body is soured, it is the gall of asps within him. ¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. ¹⁶ He shall suck the poison of asps: the viper’s tongue shall slay him. ¹⁷ He shall not see the rivers, the brooks flowing with honey and butter. ¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it down: from the proceeds of business he shall not rejoice. ¹⁹ Because he has oppressed and has forsaken the poor; because he has violently taken away a house which he built not; ²⁰ Surely he shall not feel quietness in his heart, he shall not save of that which he desired.

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷ Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant. ¹⁸ But he knows not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of the grave.

⁹ Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
