¹ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. ² Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; and he that hastens with his feet sins. ³ The foolishness of man perverts his way: and his heart frets against the LORD. ⁴ Wealth makes many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor. ⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape. ⁶ Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that gives gifts. ⁷ All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursues them with words, yet they are nothing to him. ⁸ He that gets wisdom loves his own soul: he that keeps understanding shall find good. ⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish. ¹⁰ Luxury is not fitting for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes. ¹¹ The discretion of a man delays his anger; and it is his glory to overlook a transgression. ¹² The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass. ¹³ A foolish son is the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping. ¹⁴ House and riches are the inheritance from fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD. ¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. ¹⁶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall die. ¹⁷ He that has pity upon the poor lends unto the LORD; and that which he has given will he pay him again. ¹⁸ Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul spare for his crying. ¹⁹ A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if you deliver him, yet you must do it again. ²⁰ Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter days. ²¹ There are many plans in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand. ²² The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar. ²³ The fear of the LORD leads to life: and he that has it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. ²⁴ A slothful man hides his hand in his dish, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. ²⁵ Smite a scoffer, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that has understanding, and he will understand knowledge. ²⁶ He that mistreats his father, and chases away his mother, is a son that causes shame, and brings reproach. ²⁷ Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causes to stray from the words of knowledge. ²⁸ An ungodly witness scorns judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity. ²⁹ Judgments are prepared for scoffers and stripes for the back of fools.

¹⁷ Now therefore know and consider what you will do; for evil is determined against our master, and against all his household: for he is such a son of Belial, that a man cannot speak to him.

²⁵ Let not my lord, I pray you, regard this man of Belial, even Nabal: for as his name is, so is he; Nabal is his name, and folly is with him: but I your handmaid saw not the young men of my lord, whom you did send.

¹¹ But as for me, I will walk in my integrity: redeem me, and be merciful unto me.

²⁶ He is ever merciful, and lends; and his descendants are blessed.

²⁶ The righteous chooses his friends carefully: but the way of the wicked leads them astray.

³ For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perverseness.

³¹ Therefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit shall not be forgiven unto men. ³² And whosoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, nor in the world to come. ³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit. ³⁴ O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him? ⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judges?

⁵ If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot has hastened to deceit;

¹⁶ For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.

²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for lack of wisdom.

²⁹ He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

⁵ The thoughts of the diligent lead only to plenty; but of everyone that is hasty, only to want.

⁸ Go not forth hastily to court, lest you know not what to do in the end, when your neighbor has put you to shame.

²⁰ A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that makes haste to be rich shall not go unpunished.

²² He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye, and considers not that poverty shall come upon him.

²⁰ See you a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope for a fool than for him.

⁹ Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

⁹ And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he pondered, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

¹¹ When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: the women come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will show them no favor.

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not be in haste.

⁶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to me: because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children.

³ And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

² For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

⁹ And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;

⁶ And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. ⁷ And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. ⁸ And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. ⁹ And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where are you? ¹⁰ And he said, I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. ¹¹ And he said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you that you should not eat? ¹² And the man said, The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

⁵ But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. ⁶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why are you angry? and why is your countenance fallen? ⁷ If you do well, shall you not be accepted? and if you do not well, sin lies at the door. And you shall be its desire, and you must rule over it. ⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. ⁹ And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel your brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? ¹⁰ And he said, What have you done? the voice of your brother's blood cries unto me from the ground. ¹¹ And now are you cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand; ¹² When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield unto you its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shall you be in the earth. ¹³ And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. ¹⁴ Behold, you have driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from your face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that anyone that finds me shall slay me.

¹⁹ And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of meeting: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation. ²⁰ And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ²¹ Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. ²² And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation? ²³ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ²⁴ Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. ²⁵ And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. ²⁶ And he spoke unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins. ²⁷ So they got away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. ²⁸ And Moses said, Hereby you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of my own will. ²⁹ If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited with the fate of all men; then the LORD has not sent me. ³⁰ But if the LORD makes a new thing, and the earth opens its mouth, and swallows them up, with all that belongs unto them, and they go down alive into the pit; then you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men that belonged unto Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that belonged to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also. ³⁵ And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense. ³⁶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying, ³⁷ Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the blaze, and scatter the fire some distance away; for they are hallowed. ³⁸ The censers of these sinners at the cost of their lives, let them make them hammered plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel. ³⁹ And Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, with which they that were burned had offered; and they were hammered out for a covering of the altar: ⁴⁰ To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, who is not of the descendants of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he become not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses. ⁴¹ But the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, You have killed the people of the LORD.

¹² And the children of Israel spoke unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish. ¹³ Whosoever comes anywhere near unto the tabernacle of the LORD shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, You have done foolishly: you have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which he commanded you: for now would the LORD have established your kingdom upon Israel forever.

²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king.

¹³ And Saul said unto him, Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all your servants as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house? ¹⁵ Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for your servant knew nothing of all this, less or more. ¹⁶ And the king said, you shall surely die, Ahimelech, you, and all your father's house. ¹⁷ And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not show it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD. ¹⁸ And the king said to Doeg, Turn you, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. ¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, struck he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing infants, and oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword. ²⁰ And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. ²¹ And Abiathar showed David that Saul had slain the LORD'S priests. ²² And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have caused the death of all the persons of your father's house. ²³ Abide you with me, fear not: for he that seeks my life seeks your life: but with me you shall be safe.

⁴² And he said unto him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people. ⁴³ And the king of Israel went to his house sullen and displeased, and came to Samaria.

⁹ So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they made a circuit of seven days’ journey: and there was no water for the army, and for the cattle that followed them. ¹⁰ And the king of Israel said, Alas! the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

³³ And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; why should I wait for the LORD any longer?

⁹ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. In this you have done foolishly: therefore from now on you shall have wars. ¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

¹ [A Psalm of David.] Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious of the workers of iniquity.

⁷ Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

³ The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

²¹ And they shall pass through it, hardpressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall be enraged, and curse their king and their God, and look upward. ²² And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they shall be driven into darkness.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing you put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁹ And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, who has power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. ¹⁰ And the fifth angel poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, ¹¹ And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

¹⁵ My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks that pass away; ¹⁶ Which are black by reason of the ice, and in which the snow is hid: ¹⁷ At what time they become warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they vanish out of their place. ¹⁸ The paths of their way turn aside; they go nowhere, and perish. ¹⁹ The caravans of Tema looked, the travelers of Sheba waited for them. ²⁰ They were disappointed because they had confidence; they came there, and were confused. ²¹ For now you are nothing; you see my terror, and are afraid. ²² Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance? ²³ Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

¹³ He has put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. ¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my close friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ They that dwell in my house, and my maidservants, count me as a stranger: I am an alien in their sight. ¹⁶ I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I entreated him with my mouth. ¹⁷ My breath is repulsive to my wife, though I make supplication for the children of my own body.

¹⁵ The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the ruin of the poor is their poverty.

²⁰ The poor is hated even of his own neighbor: but the rich has many friends.

¹³ And not many days later the younger son gathered everything together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. ¹⁴ And when he had spent everything, there arose a great famine in that land; and he began to be in want. ¹⁵ And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

¹ You shall not raise a false report: put not your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness.

¹¹ You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes his name in vain.

¹⁶ If a false witness rises up against any man to testify against him that which is wrong; ¹⁷ Then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before the LORD, before the priests and the judges, who shall be in those days; ¹⁸ And the judges shall make diligent inquiry: and, behold, if the witness is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother; ¹⁹ Then shall you do unto him, as he had thought to have done unto his brother: so shall you put the evil away from among you. ²⁰ And those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall hereafter commit no more any such evil among you. ²¹ And your eye shall not pity; but life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.

⁹ Now therefore hold him not guiltless: for you are a wise man, and know what you ought to do unto him; but his gray head bring you down to the grave with blood.

³ What shall be given unto you? or what shall be done unto you, you false tongue? ⁴ Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.

¹⁹ A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

²⁸ A false witness shall perish: but the man that hears speaks constantly.

²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came at the bottom of the den.

²⁰ And say moreover, Behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; perhaps he will accept me.

And the king swore unto him. ²⁴ And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came again in peace. ²⁵ And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Why went you not with me, Mephibosheth? ²⁶ And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for your servant said, I will saddle me a donkey, that I may ride thereon, and go to the king; because your servant is lame. ²⁷ And he has slandered your servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in your eyes. ²⁸ For all of my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king: yet did you set your servant among them that did eat at your own table. What right therefore have I yet to cry any more unto the king? ²⁹ And the king said unto him, Why speak you any more of your matters? I have said, You and Ziba divide the land. ³⁰ And Mephibosheth said unto the king, Yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come again in peace unto his own house. ³¹ And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim, and went over Jordan with the king, to conduct him over Jordan. ³² Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with supplies while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man. ³³ And the king said unto Barzillai, Come you over with me, and I will feed you with me in Jerusalem. ³⁴ And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem? ³⁵ I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? why then should your servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king? ³⁶ Your servant will go a little way over Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense me with such a reward? ³⁷ Let your servant, I pray you, turn back again, that I may die in my own city, and be buried by the grave of my father and of my mother. But behold your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto you. ³⁸ And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto you: and whatsoever you shall ask of me, that will I do for you. ³⁹ And all the people went over Jordan. And when the king was come over, the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.

²⁴ If I mocked them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down. ²⁵ I chose out their way, and sat as chief, and dwelt like a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.

¹² And the daughter of Tyre shall be there with a gift; even the rich among the people shall entreat your favor.

¹⁵ In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.

⁸ A bribe is as a magic stone in the eyes of him that gives it: wherever he turns, he prospers.

¹⁶ A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.

¹² The king's wrath is as the roaring of a lion; but his favor is as dew upon the grass.

¹⁴ A gift in secret averts anger: and a bribe in the bosom, strong wrath.

²⁶ Many seek the ruler's favor; but every man's judgment comes from the LORD.

¹¹ And when they came into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshiped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

²³ For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹¹ My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my plague; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

⁸ You have put away my acquaintance far from me; you have made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.

¹⁸ Lover and friend have you put far from me, and my acquaintance into darkness.

²³ The poor uses entreaties; but the rich answers roughly.

¹⁵ Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

³⁸ And he cried, saying, Jesus, you son of David, have mercy on me. ³⁹ And they who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, You son of David, have mercy on me. ⁴⁰ And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he came near, he asked him,

⁶ But you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judges?

¹⁵ If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be warmed and filled; yet you give them not those things which are needful to the body; what does it profit?

¹⁷ But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his heart of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

¹¹ Moreover by them is your servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and lay up my commandments with you; ² So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ Yea, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures; ⁵ Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom: out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a shield to them that walk uprightly. ⁸ He keeps the paths of justice, and preserves the way of his saints. ⁹ Then shall you understand righteousness, and justice, and equity; yea, every good path.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is everyone that retains her.

²¹ My son, let not them depart from your eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:

⁴ He taught me also, and said unto me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep you.

²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart.

³⁵ For whosoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD. ³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul: all they that hate me love death.

²⁰ He that handles a matter wisely shall find good: and whosoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he.

¹⁶ Why is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he has no heart for it?

¹⁸ For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you; they shall all be fitted on your lips.

²⁶ A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

²⁵ He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

²¹ He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

¹⁰ For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:

⁵ A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

¹⁵ The elder and honorable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail. ¹⁶ For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led by them are destroyed. ¹⁷ Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for everyone is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

²⁵ I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. ²⁶ How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; ²⁷ Who think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbor, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. ²⁸ The prophet that has a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that has my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? says the LORD. ²⁹ Is not my word like a fire? says the LORD; and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? ³⁰ Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, says the LORD, that steal my words everyone from his neighbor. ³¹ Behold, I am against the prophets, says the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He says. ³² Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, says the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their recklessness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, says the LORD.

¹⁵ Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD has not sent you; but you make this people to trust in a lie. ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD; Behold, I will cast you from off the face of the earth: this year you shall die, because you have taught rebellion against the LORD. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

³¹ Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus says the LORD concerning Shemaiah the Nehelamite; Because Shemaiah has prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie: ³² Therefore thus says the LORD; Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his descendants: he shall not have a man to dwell among this people; neither shall he behold the good that I will do for my people, says the LORD; because he has taught rebellion against the LORD.

²² Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not turn from his wicked way, to save his life:

⁸ And then shall that Wicked One be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: ⁹ Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ And with all deception of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹ Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to deceitful spirits, and doctrines of demons; ² Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who shall secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their shameful ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. ³ And through covetousness shall they with false words exploit you: whose judgment of old now lingers not, and their destruction slumbers not.

²⁰ And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that worked miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshiped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

¹⁵ For outside are dogs, and sorcerers, and fornicators, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

³⁶ And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunk: therefore she told him nothing, little or much, until the morning light.

¹⁵ The couriers went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the citadel. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

⁷ Excellent speech becomes not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.

¹ As snow in summer, and as rain in harvest, so honor is not fitting for a fool.

²¹ For three things the earth trembles, under four it cannot bear up: ²² For a servant when he reigns; and a fool when he is filled with food;

⁵ There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceeds from the ruler: ⁶ Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place. ⁷ I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.

⁵ And the people shall be oppressed, everyone by another, and everyone by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the elder, and the base against the honorable.

¹¹ Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflames them! ¹² And the harp, and the lyre, the timbrel, and flute, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

¹² And in that day did the Lord GOD of hosts call for weeping, and for mourning, and for baldness, and for girding with sackcloth: ¹³ But instead, joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating meat, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for tomorrow we shall die. ¹⁴ And it was revealed in my ears by the LORD of hosts, Surely this iniquity shall not be purged from you till you die, says the Lord GOD of hosts.

³ They make the king glad with their wickedness, and the princes with their lies. ⁴ They are all adulterers, as an oven heated by the baker, who ceases to stir the fire after he has kneaded the dough, until it is leavened. ⁵ In the day of our king the princes have made him sick with bottles of wine; he stretched out his hand with scoffers.

¹ Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for you have played the harlot against your God, you have loved for hire upon every threshing floor.

³ You that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; ⁴ That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch yourselves upon your couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; ⁵ That chant to the sound of the harp, and invent for yourselves instruments of music, like David; ⁶ That drink wine in bowls, and anoint yourselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted sumptuously every day:

²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

¹⁵ And when Joseph's brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will perhaps hate us, and will certainly pay back to us all the evil which we did unto him. ¹⁶ And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Your father did command before he died, saying, ¹⁷ So shall you say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray you now, the trespass of your brothers, and their sin; for they did unto you evil: and now, we pray you, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father. And Joseph wept when they spoke unto him. ¹⁸ And his brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we are your servants. ¹⁹ And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? ²⁰ But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive. ²¹ Now therefore fear not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spoke kindly unto them.

¹⁶ A fool's wrath is at once known: but a prudent man covers shame.

¹⁸ A wrathful man stirs up strife: but he that is slow to anger quiets strife.

³² He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that takes a city.

¹⁴ The beginning of strife is like releasing water: therefore leave off contention, before a quarrel starts.

³ It is an honor for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

²¹ If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink:

⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you; ⁴⁵ That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.

²¹ Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? ²² Jesus said unto him, I say not unto you, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

¹⁸ If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. ¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord. ²⁰ Therefore if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. ²¹ Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

³² And be you kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.

¹² Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; ¹³ Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do you.

¹⁹ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger:

⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth, by clear shining after rain.

⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed on which Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

⁶ He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth.

³ As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life forevermore.

¹⁴ The wrath of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will appease it. ¹⁵ In the light of the king's countenance is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.

¹⁹ And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, and languages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom he would he put down.

⁵ I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

⁷ And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarries not for man, nor waits for the sons of men.

⁴ And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Fear him, who after he has killed has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

¹ And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. ² And Amnon was so distressed, that he became sick over his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it improper for him to do anything to her. ³ But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtle man. ⁴ And he said unto him, Why are you, being the king’s son, so haggard from day to day? will you not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister. ⁵ And Jonadab said unto him, Lay you down on your bed, and pretend to be sick: and when your father comes to see you, say unto him, I pray you, let my sister Tamar come, and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand. ⁶ So Amnon lay down, and pretended to be sick: and when the king had come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray you, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand. ⁷ Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to your brother Amnon’s house, and prepare him food. ⁸ So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was lying down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes. ⁹ And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Send out all men from me. And they went out every man from him. ¹⁰ And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat of your hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. ¹¹ And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister. ¹² And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not you this folly. ¹³ And I, where shall I cause my shame to go? and as for you, you shall be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray you, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from you. ¹⁴ However he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her. ¹⁵ Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone. ¹⁶ And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that you did unto me. But he would not hearken unto her. ¹⁷ Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her. ¹⁸ And she had a garment of many colors upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins dressed. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

¹⁶ Then it shall be, when he makes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved firstborn before the son of the hated, who is indeed the firstborn:

²³ So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

⁶ In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.

¹⁴ Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

¹⁷ Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

⁹ How long will you sleep, O sluggard? when will you arise out of your sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹⁸ Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.

⁵ Whosoever keeps the commandment shall experience no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment.

¹³ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

²³ But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people: and walk you in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

⁵ He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him. But he that takes warning shall deliver his soul.

²⁸ And he said unto him, You have answered right: this do, and you shall live.

²⁸ But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

¹⁵ If you love me, keep my commandments.

²¹ He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. ²² Judas said unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man loves me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. ¹¹ These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. ¹² This is my commandment, That you love one another, as I have loved you. ¹³ Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you.

¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

³ And by this we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

³ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not burdensome.

¹⁴ Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

⁷ If there be among you a poor man of one of your brethren within any of your gates in your land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother: ⁸ But you shall open your hand wide unto him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he lacks. ⁹ Beware that there be not a thought in your wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cries unto the LORD against you, and it be sin in you. ¹⁰ You shall surely give to him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give unto him: because for this thing the LORD your God shall bless you in all your works, and in all that you put your hand unto. ¹¹ For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, you shall open your hand wide unto your brother, to your poor, and to your needy, in your land. ¹² And if your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, be sold unto you, and serve you six years; then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you. ¹³ And when you send him out free from you, you shall not let him go away empty: ¹⁴ You shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, and out of your threshing floor, and out of your winepress: of that with which the LORD your God has blessed you you shall give unto him.

⁶ And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

²⁴ There is one that scatters, and yet increases; and there is one that withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty. ²⁵ The liberal soul shall be made rich: and he that waters shall be watered also himself.

¹⁴ A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

²¹ He that despises his neighbor sins: but he that has mercy on the poor, happy is he.

³¹ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he that honors him has mercy on the poor.

⁸ He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

²⁷ He that gives unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hides his eyes shall have many a curse.

¹ Cast your bread upon the waters: for you shall find it after many days.

⁷ Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring the poor that are cast out to your house? when you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you hide not yourself from your own flesh? ⁸ Then shall your light break forth as the morning, and your health shall spring forth speedily: and your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. ⁹ Then shall you call, and the LORD shall answer; you shall cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness; ¹⁰ And if you draw out your soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall your light rise in the darkness, and your darkness be as the noon day: ¹¹ And the LORD shall guide you continually, and satisfy your soul in drought, and strengthen your bones: and you shall be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

⁴¹ He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Since you have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto me.

³⁸ Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your lap. For with the same measure that you measure it shall be measured to you again.

⁶ But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. ⁷ Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

¹⁷ Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

¹⁰ For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have showed toward his name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

²⁴ He that spares his rod hates his son: but he that loves him chastens him early.

¹⁵ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹³ Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beat him with a rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ You shall beat him with the rod, and shall deliver his soul from sheol.

¹⁵ The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself brings his mother to shame.

¹⁷ Correct your son, and he shall give you rest; yea, he shall give delight unto your soul.

⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? ⁸ But if you be without chastisement, of which all are partakers, then are you illegitimate children, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, You son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own shame, and unto the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the ground, you shall not be established, nor your kingdom. Therefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.

⁷ Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, you Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds; ⁸ That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that shows me that my son has made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or shows unto me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? ⁹ Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. ¹⁰ And he inquired of the LORD for him, and gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine. ¹¹ Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king. ¹² And Saul said, Hear now, you son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

¹⁷ And he said to David, you are more righteous than I: for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil. ¹⁸ And you have shown this day how that you have dealt well with me: for when the LORD had delivered me into your hand, you killed me not. ¹⁹ For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away safe? therefore the LORD reward you with good for what you have done unto me this day. ²⁰ And now, behold, I know well that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand. ²¹ Swear now therefore unto me by the LORD, that you will not cut off my descendants after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father's house. ²² And David swore unto Saul. And Saul went home; but David and his men got themselves up unto the stronghold.

²¹ Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do you harm, because my soul was precious in your eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly. ²² And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and get it. ²³ The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness: for the LORD delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth my hand against the LORD'S anointed. ²⁴ And, behold, as your life was precious this day in my eyes, so let my life be precious in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation. ²⁵ Then Saul said to David, Blessed be you, my son David: you shall both do great things, and also shall still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.

⁵ And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed continually as he came. ⁶ And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man you shall not go: ²⁵ Lest you learn his ways, and get a snare to your soul.

²⁸ He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

²² An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression.

¹⁰ Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

¹⁶ Who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers knew not, that he might humble you, and that he might test you, to do you good in the end;

²⁹ O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.

¹² So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

¹⁴ O satisfy us early with your mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

⁸ My son, hear the instruction of your father, and forsake not the law of your mother:

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. ³⁵ For whosoever finds me finds life, and shall obtain favor of the LORD.

¹⁵ The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkens unto counsel is wise.

¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and feasted sumptuously every day: ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, who was laid at his gate, full of sores, ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; ²³ And in hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeing Abraham far off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁹ And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes. ²⁰ Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

⁴ And Joseph said unto his brothers, Come near to me, I pray you. And they came near. And he said, I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. ⁵ Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that you sold me here: for God did send me before you to preserve life. ⁶ For these two years has the famine been in the land: and there are yet five years, in the which there shall neither be plowing nor harvest. ⁷ And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. ⁸ So now it was not you that sent me here, but God: and he has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

²⁰ But as for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive.

²⁵ But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked plot, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

¹³ But he is of one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desires, even that he does.

¹¹ For they intended evil against you: they devised a mischievous act, which they are not able to perform.

¹⁰ The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing: he makes the devices of the people of none effect. ¹¹ The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

⁴ They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

² A good man obtains favor of the LORD: but a man of wicked intentions will he condemn.

¹ The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

⁹ A man's heart plans his way: but the LORD directs his steps.

¹ The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turns it wherever he will.

³⁰ There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.

²⁹ Lo, this only have I found, that God has made man upright; but they have sought out many devices.

⁶ Let us go up against Judah, and trouble it, and let us make a break in its wall for us, and set a king in the midst of it, even the son of Tabeal: ⁷ Thus says the Lord GOD, It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.

²⁴ The LORD of hosts has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

²⁶ This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations. ²⁷ For the LORD of hosts has purposed, and who shall annul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁰ Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

³⁵ And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can restrain his hand, or say unto him, What do you?

²⁴ He shall enter peaceably even into the richest places of the province; and he shall do that which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers' fathers; he shall scatter among them the plunder, and spoil, and riches: yea, and he shall devise his plans against the strongholds, but only for a time. ²⁵ And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall devise plans against him.

⁴ And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him. ⁵ But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

⁶³ Saying, Sir, we remember that this deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. ⁶⁴ Command therefore that the sepulcher be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

²⁷ For of a truth against your holy child Jesus, whom you have anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, ²⁸ To do whatsoever your hand and your counsel determined before to be done.

³⁸ And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nothing: ³⁹ But if it be of God, you cannot overthrow it; lest perhaps you be found even to fight against God.

¹¹ In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will:

¹⁷ So God, willing more abundantly to show unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: ¹⁸ That by two immutable things, in that it was impossible for God to lie, we might have strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

⁸ And, A stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense, even to them who stumble at the word, being disobedient: to which also they were appointed.

⁴ For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into licentiousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

² Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the bronze for things of bronze, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistening stones, and of various colors, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance. ³ Moreover, because I have set my affection on the house of my God, I have of my own things, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house,

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that you test the heart, and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy your people, who are present here, to offer willingly unto you.

⁸ But the LORD said to David my father, Since it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well in that it was in your heart:

¹⁵ My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks that pass away;

⁵ He that speaks flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

⁹ Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: if laid on the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

¹ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.

⁴¹ And Jesus sat opposite the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. ⁴² And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. ⁴³ And he called unto him his disciples, and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow has cast more in, than all they who have cast into the treasury: ⁴⁴ For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her poverty did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

⁶ And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble you her? she has wrought a good work for me. ⁷ For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you will you may do them good: but me you have not always. ⁸ She has done what she could: she has come beforehand to anoint my body for burying.

² How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. ³ For to their ability, I bear record, yea, and beyond their ability they were willing of themselves;

¹² For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to what a man has, and not according to what he has not.

² In hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages began;

⁹ The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

¹³ His soul shall dwell at ease; and his descendants shall inherit the earth.

¹⁸ Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; ¹⁹ To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

⁹ O fear the LORD, you his saints: for there is no lack to them that fear him. ¹⁰ The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing. ¹¹ Come, you children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

⁹ Surely his salvation is near those that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.

¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

¹⁷ But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;

¹⁸ The LORD is near unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. ¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. ²⁰ The LORD preserves all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD prolongs days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

²¹ There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with trouble.

²⁶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. ²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to turn one away from the snares of death.

¹⁶ Then they that feared the LORD spoke often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. ¹⁷ And they shall be mine, says the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spares his own son that serves him.

² But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and you shall go forth, and grow up like calves of the stall.

⁶ Blessed are they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

³¹ Then had the churches rest throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, were multiplied.

²⁸ And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

¹¹ Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, to be content. ¹² I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits for a little while: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. ⁸ And having food and clothing let us be with these things content. ⁹ But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which plunge men into destruction and perdition.

¹⁸ And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

⁵ Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you. ⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

¹¹ Why withdraw you your hand, even your right hand? pluck it out of your bosom.

²⁷ The slothful man roasts not that which he took in hunting: but the possessions of a diligent man are precious.

¹⁹ The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made a highway.

¹⁵ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

³⁰ I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; ³¹ And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and weeds had covered its face, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall your poverty come like a robber; and your want like an armed man.

¹³ The slothful man says, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ As the door turns upon its hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed. ¹⁵ The slothful hides his hand in his dish; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men that can answer reasonably.

²³ And he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

²⁰ And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dips with me in the dish.

¹¹ And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is among you.

²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, so that he dies: so shall you put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

⁸ Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate you: rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. ⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. ¹⁰ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

⁵ A fool despises his father's instruction: but he that regards reproof is prudent.

¹⁰ A reproof enters more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.

¹¹ When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

¹⁸ If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: ¹⁹ Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place; ²⁰ And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. ²¹ And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, so that he dies: so shall you put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

⁵ He that gathers in summer is a wise son: but he that sleeps in harvest is a son that causes shame.

² A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

²² Hearken unto your father that begat you, and despise not your mother when she is old. ²³ Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. ²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begets a wise child shall have joy in him. ²⁵ Your father and your mother shall be glad, and she that bore you shall rejoice.

⁷ Whosoever keeps the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of gluttonous men shames his father.

¹⁴ Happy is the man that is reverent always: but he that hardens his heart shall fall into calamity.

²⁴ Whosoever robs his father or his mother, and says, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

¹¹ There is a generation that curses their father, and does not bless their mother.

¹⁷ The eye that mocks at his father, and despises to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young vultures shall eat it.

¹² And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me. And he divided unto them his living. ¹³ And not many days later the younger son gathered everything together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. ¹⁴ And when he had spent everything, there arose a great famine in that land; and he began to be in want. ¹⁵ And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. ¹⁶ And he would gladly have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him.

³⁰ But as soon as this your son came, who has devoured your living with harlots, you have killed for him the fatted calf.

¹ If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder, ² And the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke unto you, and he says, Let us go after other gods, which you have not known, and let us serve them; ³ You shall not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God is testing you, to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. ⁴ You shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

²² And the LORD said unto him, By what means? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil concerning you. ²⁴ But Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near, and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, Which way went the spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto you? ²⁵ And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see in that day, when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself. ²⁶ And the king of Israel said, Take Micaiah, and carry him back unto Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son; ²⁷ And say, Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I come in peace. ²⁸ And Micaiah said, If you return at all in peace, the LORD has not spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, O people, every one of you.

⁷ Go from the presence of a foolish man, when you perceive not in him the lips of knowledge.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

⁶ Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

¹² Then understood they that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

²⁴ And he said unto them, Take heed what you hear: with what measure you measure, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

⁶ He answered and said unto them, Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honor me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁷ But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. ⁸ For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such things you do. ⁹ And he said unto them, Full well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition. ¹⁰ For Moses said, Honor your father and your mother; and, Whoever curses father or mother, let him die the death: ¹¹ But you say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift devoted to God, whatsoever you might have received from me; he shall be free. ¹² And you allow him no more to do anything for his father or his mother; ¹³ Making the word of God of no effect through your tradition, which you have delivered: and many such things do you. ¹⁴ And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

⁵ And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

¹³ For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

¹⁴ That we from now on be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive;

⁷ But refuse profane and old wives' tales, and exercise yourself rather unto godliness.

³ If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; ⁴ He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting over questions and disputes of words, out of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil suspicions, ⁵ Perverse wranglings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw yourself.

¹ But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who shall secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their shameful ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

¹ Beloved, believe not every spirit, but test the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

¹⁰ If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

² I know your works, and your labor, and your patience, and how you can not bear them who are evil: and you have tried them who say they are apostles, and are not, and have found them liars:

¹⁰ And set two men, sons of Belial, before him, to bear witness against him, saying, You did blaspheme God and the king. And then carry him out, and stone him, that he may die.

¹³ And there came in two men, children of Belial, and sat before him: and the men of Belial witnessed against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, Naboth did blaspheme God and the king. Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, so that he died.

¹⁶ How much more abominable and filthy is man, who drinks iniquity like water?

¹² Though wickedness be sweet in his mouth, though he hide it under his tongue; ¹³ Though he spare it, and forsake it not; but keep it still within his mouth:

⁷ What man is like Job, who drinks up scorn like water?

⁵ His ways are always prosperous; your judgments are far above, out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

¹¹ He has said in his heart, God has forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it.

¹⁴ The heart of him that has understanding seeks knowledge: but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.

¹⁴ Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, that rule this people who are in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ Because you have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with sheol are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves: ¹⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not be in haste. ¹⁷ Justice also will I make the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place. ¹⁸ And your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then you shall be beaten down by it.

⁸ They eat up the sin of my people, and they set their heart on their iniquity.

² Saying, There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, neither regarded man: ³ And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary. ⁴ And he would not for awhile: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

¹¹ Then they bribed men, who said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God. ¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council, ¹³ And set up false witnesses, who said, This man ceases not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

³⁴ Surely he scorns the scornful: but he gives grace unto the lowly.

²² He goes after her immediately, as an ox goes to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

¹² If you are wise, you shall be wise for yourself: but if you scoff, you alone shall bear it.

¹³ In the lips of him that has understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

⁶ A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for blows.

³ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the fool's back.

²² Now therefore be not mockers, lest your bonds be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a destruction, even determined upon the whole earth.

²⁰ For the ruthless one is brought to nothing, and the scoffer is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets; ⁴¹ Behold, you despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no way believe, though a man declare it unto you.

⁶ For whom the Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.

³ Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, ⁴ And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. ⁵ For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: ⁶ By which the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: ⁷ But the heavens and the earth, which now are, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
