¹ ¶ Whosoever loves chastening loves knowledge, but he that hates reproof is carnal. ² ¶ The good man shall attain the favour of the LORD, but the man of wicked thoughts he will condemn. ³ ¶ Man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. ⁴ ¶ The virtuous woman is a crown to her husband, but she that makes ashamed is as rottenness in his bones. ⁵ ¶ The thoughts of the righteous are upright, but the astuteness of the wicked is deceit. ⁶ ¶ The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood, but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them. ⁷ ¶ God shall overthrow the wicked, and they shall not be any longer, but the house of the righteous shall remain. ⁸ ¶ A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised. ⁹ ¶ He that despises himself and becomes a slave is better than he that honours himself and lacks bread. ¹⁰ ¶ The righteous is merciful even unto his beast, but the piety of the wicked is cruel. ¹¹ ¶ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding. ¹² ¶ The wicked desires the net of evil men, but the root of the righteous shall yield fruit. ¹³ ¶ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of the tribulation. ¹⁴ ¶ Man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him. ¹⁵ ¶ The way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but he that hears counsel is wise. ¹⁶ ¶ A fool’s wrath is presently known, but he who covers the injury is sane. ¹⁷ ¶ He that speaks truth shows forth righteousness, but a false witness, deceit. ¹⁸ ¶ There are those that speak like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is medicine. ¹⁹ ¶ The lip of truth shall be established for ever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment. ²⁰ ¶ Deceit is in the heart of those whose thoughts are evil, but joy in that of those whose thoughts are good. ²¹ ¶ No iniquity shall overtake the righteous: but the wicked shall be filled with evil. ²² ¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but the workers of the truth are his delight. ²³ ¶ The sane man conceals his wisdom: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness. ²⁴ ¶ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the negligent shall be under tribute. ²⁵ ¶ Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: but a good word makes it glad. ²⁶ ¶ The righteous causes his neighbour to consider: but the way of the wicked causes them to err. ²⁷ ¶ The deceitful man does not even roast that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious. ²⁸ ¶ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

⁹ Be ye not as the horse or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in subjection with bit and bridle, or they will not come near unto thee.

⁶ A carnal man does not know, neither does a fool understand this:

²⁷ Make me to understand the way of thy precepts; so I shall meditate of thy wondrous works.

⁹⁷ ¶ MEM. O how I love thy law! it is my meditation all the day. ⁹⁸ ¶ Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies, for they are eternal unto me. ⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers, for thy testimonies have been my meditation. ¹⁰⁰ I understand more than the elders because I keep thy precepts.

¹⁰ ¶ When wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is sweet unto thy soul, ¹¹ discretion shall preserve thee, intelligence shall keep thee

¹² and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me!

¹⁷ I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

³² ¶ Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye sons; for blessed are those that keep my ways.

⁷ He that chastens a scorner brings shame unto himself, and he that chastens a wicked man brings himself a blot. ⁸ Chasten not a scorner lest he hate thee; chasten a wise man, and he will love thee.

¹⁰ ¶ Chastening is grievous unto him that forsakes the way, but he that hates reproof shall die.

¹ ¶ Whosoever goes astray seeks according to his own lust and shall meddle with every doctrine.

³ The ox knows his owner, and the ass his master’s crib; but Israel does not know, my people do not have understanding.

¹⁰ and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth, to be saved.

¹⁵ The Gentiles are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid their own foot is taken.

⁵ Teth A good man has mercy and lends; Jod He will govern his affairs with good judgment.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to evil,

³⁵ For whosoever finds me shall find life and shall obtain the will of the LORD.

⁸ There is no man that has power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither does he have power over the day of death, and weapons are of no use in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

⁵ The vile person shall no longer be called liberal, nor the greedy said to be bountiful. ⁶ For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will invent iniquity to work unrighteousness and to speak scornfully against the LORD, leaving the soul of the hungry empty and taking away the drink of the thirsty. ⁷ Certainly the greedy use evil measures: he devises wicked devices to ensnare the simple with lying words and to speak in judgment against the poor.

²⁴ For he was a good man and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added unto the Lord.

⁷ For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

³³ and blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou who hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood and from avenging myself with my own hand.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root, but at the same time I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His sons are far from saving health, and they shall be crushed in the gate, and there shall be no one to deliver them. ⁵ The hungry shall eat up his harvest, and even take it out from among the thorns, and the thirsty shall drink up their substance.

²⁹ He shall not become rich, nor shall his strength be established, neither shall he extend his beauty upon the earth.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? ⁶ Though his excellency mounts up to the heavens, and his head reaches unto the clouds, ⁷ yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung; those who have seen him shall say, What is become of him? ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream and shall not be found: yea, he shall flee away as a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place behold him any more.

¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares raiment as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He built his house as a moth and as a booth that the keeper makes.

⁵ He that does not put out his money to usury nor take a bribe against the innocent. He that does these things shall never be moved.

¹ A Song of degrees. ¶ Those that trust in the LORD are as Mount Zion, which cannot be removed but abides for ever. ² As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from now on even for ever.

²⁵ When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is founded for ever.

¹² ¶ The wicked desires the net of evil men, but the root of the righteous shall yield fruit.

¹⁷ that the Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that ye, being rooted and grounded in charity,

⁷ rooted and built up in him and confirmed in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

¹ ¶ Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

³⁰ ¶ A sound heart is life to the flesh, but envy is rottenness of the bones.

¹³ ¶ A foolish son is a pain unto his father, and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping. ¹⁴ ¶ House and riches are the inheritance from fathers, but the prudent wife is from the LORD.

⁹ ¶ It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

¹⁹ ¶ It is better to dwell in the wilderness than with a contentious and an angry woman.

¹⁵ ¶ A continual dripping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. ¹⁶ Whosoever hides her hides the wind, because the oil in his right hand cries out.

¹⁶ ¶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice; rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in my seat, that I might rest in the day of trouble when he comes up unto the people to destroy them.

⁷ For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of the man.

¹¹ Nevertheless, neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

² Each one speaks vanity with his neighbour: they speak with flattering lips and with a double heart. ³ The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks proud things:

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes until his iniquity is found to be hateful. ³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he has left off to be wise and to do good. ⁴ He devises iniquity upon his bed; he sets himself in a way that is not good; he does not abhor evil.

⁶ And if he came to see me, he spoke lies: his heart gathered iniquity to itself, and when he goes out, he tells it. ⁷ All that hate me congregate together and murmur against me; against me do they devise my hurt.

¹⁵ I will meditate in thy precepts and consider thy ways.

²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts

¹ To the Overcomer, A Psalm of David. ¶ Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from the man of violence. ² Who devise evil in their heart; they are continually gathered together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.

²³ ¶ The desire of the righteous is only good, but the hope of the wicked is wrath.

⁹ The thought of the foolish is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.

⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness that thou may be saved. How long shalt thou entertain the thoughts of thy iniquity within thee?

³ When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him. ⁴ And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he asked them where the Christ should be born. ⁵ And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea, for thus it is written by the prophet, ⁶ And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda, for out of thee shall come a Leader that shall shepherd my people Israel. ⁷ Then Herod, calling the wise men unto him secretly, understood of them with diligence the time of the appearing of the star; ⁸ and sending them to Bethlehem, he said, Go there and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again that I may come and worship him also.

¹⁶ ¶ Then Herod, seeing that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth and sent forth and killed all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had understood of the wise men.

⁴ and took counsel that they might take Jesus by guile and kill him.

⁵ Therefore, judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each one have praise of God.

² but remove from ourselves every hidden shameful thing, not walking in craftiness, nor adulterating the word of God, but in the manifestation of the truth, commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

¹ ¶ Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night, ² and I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed and will make him afraid, and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only. ³ Thus will I turn all the people back unto thee, and when they have returned (for that man is whom thou dost seek), all the people shall be in peace. ⁴ And this word seemed right in the eyes of Absalom and of all the elders of Israel.

⁷ And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them. ⁸ Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to show it unto Esther and to declare it unto her and to charge her that she should go in unto the king to make supplication unto him and to make request before him for her people. ⁹ And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai. ¹⁰ Again Esther spoke unto Hatach and sent him to say unto Mordecai, ¹¹ All the king’s slaves and the people of the king’s provinces do know that anyone, whether man or woman, who shall come unto the king into the inner court without being called, by one law shall be put to death, unless the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that they may live; but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. ¹² And they told to Mordecai Esther’s words. ¹³ Then Mordecai told them to answer Esther, Do not think in thy soul that thou shalt escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews. ¹⁴ For if thou art silent at this time, then enlargement and deliverance shall arise to the Jews from another place, but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed; and who knows whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

⁴ For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. If we had been sold for menslaves and womenslaves, I would remain silent, even though the enemy could not recompense the damage to the king. ⁵ And King Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther, the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that has filled his heart with the arrogance to do so? ⁶ Then Esther said, The man who is the adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause. ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit; ¹³ We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil. ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls. ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

³ ¶ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are their paths.

²⁶ For among my people were found wicked men: they lay in wait as he that sets snares; they set a trap of perdition to catch men.

¹ ¶ Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grapegleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat: my soul desired the firstripe fruit. ² The merciful man of the earth is missing: and there is no one upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt each man his brother with a net.

¹² ¶ And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together and they vowed under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.

¹⁵ Now therefore ye with the council signify to the tribunal that he bring him down unto you tomorrow, as though ye would enquire something more certain concerning him, and we, before he arrives, are ready to kill him.

³ asking for grace against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, they placing an ambush in the way to kill him.

¹⁶ And thy house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee; thy throne shall be established for ever.

²⁶ For thus shall thy name be magnified for ever that it may be said, The LORD of the hosts is God over Israel and that the house of thy slave David be established before thee.

⁶ And in Shushan, the palace, the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men. ⁷ Then they also slew Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vajezatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman, the son of Hammedatha; the enemy of the Jews, they slew, but on the spoil they did not lay their hand.

¹⁴ And the king commanded it to be so done; and it was given as law at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

¹⁵ He shall dwell in his tent, as if it were not his; brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. ¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above his branch shall be cut off. ¹⁷ His memory shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the streets. ¹⁸ He shall be driven from the light into the darkness and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall have neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any to succeed him in his dwellings. ²⁰ Those that come after him shall be dismayed at his day, as those that went before were overcome with fear.

¹⁸ He built his house as a moth and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered; he shall open his eyes and not see anyone. ²⁰ Terrors shall take hold on him as waters; a whirlwind shall carry him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind shall take him away, and he shall depart; the storm shall catch him up out of his place. ²² For God shall cast down on him and not spare; he would attempt to flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and from his place they shall hiss at him.

²⁵ Therefore, he shall cause their works to be notorious, when he shall overturn them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

¹⁰ Vau For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be; thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.

³⁵ Resh I have seen the wicked in great power and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, behold, he was not: I sought him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Schin Mark the perfect, and behold the upright, for the end of each one of them is peace.

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; in desolation thou shalt cause them to fall. ¹⁹ How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors.

²¹ ¶ No matter how many covenants he has made with death, the wicked shall not be absolved, but the seed of the righteous shall escape.

¹¹ ¶ The house of the wicked shall be made desolate, but the tent of the upright shall flourish.

²⁵ ¶ The LORD will destroy the house of the proud, but he will establish the inheritance of the widow.

³ ¶ Through wisdom the house shall be built, and with intelligence it shall be established: ⁴ And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and beautiful riches.

²⁴ Therefore, whosoever hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him unto a prudent man, who built his house upon the rock; ²⁵ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded upon a rock. ²⁶ And every one that hears these words of mine and does not do them shall be likened unto a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand; ²⁷ and the rain descended, and the rivers came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.

³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art.

¹³ Then Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee, for now the LORD would have established thy kingdom over Israel for ever.

¹⁸ Then one of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem, that is cunning in playing and a mighty valiant man and a man of war and prudent in speech and handsome, and the LORD is with him.

³⁰ Then the princes of the Philistines went forth, and it came to pass after they went forth that David behaved himself more prudently than all the slaves of Saul so that his name was much set by.

¹⁷ Now, therefore, know and consider what thou must do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household, for he is such a son of Belial that no one can speak to him.

¹⁸ His enemies I will clothe with shame, but upon himself shall his crown blossom.

²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear comes upon you;

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

²³ He shall die because he did not submit to chastening; and due to the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

¹ ¶ Who is as the wise man? and who is as he who knows the interpretation of all things? The wisdom of this man shall make his face to shine, and the coarseness of his face shall be changed.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall be awakened, some for eternal life, and some for shame and everlasting confusion.

⁸ But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble in the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, said the LORD of the hosts. ⁹ Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

⁴ saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? Thou shalt see to it. ⁵ And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed and went and hanged himself.

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of food in due season? ⁴³ Blessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing. ⁴⁴ Of a truth I say unto you that he will make him ruler over all that he has.

⁸ And the lord commended the unjust steward because he had done discreetly; for the sons of this age are in their generation more prudent than the sons of light.

²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him because he did not give God the glory, and he expired eaten of worms.

¹⁰ According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another builds upon it. But let each one see how the building is built. ¹¹ ¶ For no one can lay another foundation than that laid, which is Jesus the Christ. ¹² Now if anyone builds upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble, ¹³ the work of each one shall be made manifest, for the day shall declare it because it shall be revealed by fire; the work of each one, whatever sort it is, the fire shall put it to test. ¹⁴ If the work of anyone abides which he has built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. ¹⁵ If anyone’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss, but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.

¹⁸ For it is not he that commends himself that is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

⁷ ¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

¹¹ For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹³ And he said unto him, My lord knows that the children are tender, and the sheep and cows with young are with me; and if men should overdrive them, in one day all the sheep will die. ¹⁴ Let my lord, I pray thee, pass before his slave; and I will lead on softly, according as the property that goes before me and the children are able to endure until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

²⁶ Then Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood? ²⁷ Come and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content. ²⁸ And when the Midianite merchantmen passed by, they took and lifted up Joseph out of the cistern and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt.

²⁸ Then the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee that thou hast smitten me these three times? ²⁹ And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now would I kill thee. ³⁰ And the ass said unto Balaam, Am I not thine ass upon which thou hast ridden ever since I was thine unto this day? Was I ever accustomed to do so unto thee? And he said, No. ³¹ Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way and his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed down his head and fell flat on his face. ³² And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? Behold, I went out as thine adversary, because thy way is perverse before me.

⁴ Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treads out the grain.

⁷ And Adonibezek said, Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered crumbs under my table; as I have done, so God has recompensed me. And they put him into Jerusalem, and there he died.

² And Nahash, the Ammonite, answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

¹¹ The woman said unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; from where then hast thou that living water?

³¹ ¶ The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross {Gr. stauros – stake} on the sabbath day (for that sabbath day was a high day) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. ³² Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who were crucified with him.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment. ¹⁴ ¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him?

¹⁹ in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread until thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken, for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

⁴ And they gave him seventy shekels of silver out of the house of Baalberith, with which Abimelech hired vain and light men who followed him.

⁴ I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with hypocrites.

² When thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands; happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

¹⁰ ¶ My son, if sinners entice thee, do not consent.

¹⁴ ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

³² But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul.

⁷ and beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,

⁶ Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding.

¹³ ¶ A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple and knows nothing.

¹⁶ Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; and as for him that lacks understanding, she saith unto him:

²⁰ ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

²³ ¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

⁴ ¶ Without oxen, the storehouse is clean, but by the strength of the ox there is abundance of bread.

²³ ¶ In all labour there is fruit, but to talk and not do, brings poverty.

²⁷ And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance of thy maidens.

¹⁹ ¶ He that tills his land shall be filled with bread, but he that follows after vain persons shall be filled with poverty.

⁸ Those that observe lying vanities forsake his mercy.

²⁸ Let him that stole steal no more, but rather let him labour, working with his hands that which is good, that he may have to give to him that is in need.

¹¹ and that ye procure to be quiet and to do your business and to work with your hands, as we commanded you, ¹² that ye may walk honestly toward those that are without, and that ye may desire nothing from any one.

⁸ neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought, but working with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,

¹⁰ For there are many insubordinate and vain talkers and deceivers of souls, especially those of the circumcision, ¹¹ whose mouths it is expedient to stop, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for dishonest gain.

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

⁹ He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he catches the poor when he draws him into his net.

¹⁵ ¶ The rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the weakness of the poor is their poverty.

⁵ ¶ The man that flatters his neighbour spreads a net for his feet. ⁶ ¶ In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare, but the righteous shall sing and rejoice.

⁶ Days shall come when Jacob shall take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and the face of the world shall be filled with fruit.

³¹ And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward:

²⁶ For among my people were found wicked men: they lay in wait as he that sets snares; they set a trap of perdition to catch men. ²⁷ As a cage full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit; thus they became great and rich. ²⁸ They are become fat; they shine; yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they did not judge the cause, the cause of the fatherless; with all this they made themselves prosperous; and they did not judge the cause of the poor.

⁷ Blessed is the man that is steadfast in the LORD and whose trust is the LORD. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green and shall not be fatigued in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

² The merciful man of the earth is missing: and there is no one upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt each man his brother with a net.

¹⁵ He shall take up all of them with his hook; he shall catch them in his net and gather them in his drag: therefore, he shall rejoice and be glad. ¹⁶ Therefore, he shall sacrifice unto his net and burn incense unto his drag because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous. ¹⁷ Shall he therefore empty his net, or have pity to stop slaying Gentiles continually?

¹³ Those on the rock are those that when they hear, receive the word with joy, but these have no root, who for a while believe and in time of temptation fall away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are those who when they have heard go forth and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life and bring no fruit to perfection. ¹⁵ But that on the good ground are those who in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience.

⁵ I AM the vine, ye are the branches: he that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it unto you.

²² But now freed from sin and made slaves to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life.

¹⁶ the Angel who frees me from all evil, bless these young men, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

⁹ ¶ And David answered Rechab and Baanah, his brother, the sons of Rimmon, the Beerothite, and said unto them, As the LORD lives, who has ransomed my soul out of all adversity,

²³ Then King Solomon swore by the LORD, saying, God do so to me and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life.

⁶ Thou shalt destroy those that speak lies: the LORD will abominate the bloody and deceitful man.

¹⁹ Koph Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD shall deliver him out of them all,

⁸ So they shall make their own council and agreements to fall upon themselves; all that see them shall flee away.

² thou art snared with the words of thy mouth; thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

⁸ ¶ The righteous is delivered out of the tribulation, and the wicked takes his place.

² ¶ The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.

⁶ ¶ A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes. ⁷ A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²³ ¶ Whosoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

¹⁸ It is good that thou should take hold of this; and also from the other not withdraw thy hand; for he that fears God shall come through with everything.

²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and even before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions had the mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces.

²⁵ Then all the people answered and said, His blood be on us and on our children.

³⁵ Who shall separate us from the charity of Christ? shall tribulation or distress or persecution or famine or nakedness or peril or sword? ³⁶ (As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.) ³⁷ Nevertheless, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

⁹ the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished;

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips

² ¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.

²³ ¶ A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, and a word spoken in due season, how good it is!

²⁰ ¶ A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth, and with the product of his lips shall he be filled. ²¹ ¶ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat its fruit.

¹⁰ Say unto the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat of the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for according to the work of his hands it shall be done unto him.

⁴¹ He that receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward, and he that receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. ⁴² And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

²⁷ For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he shall reward everyone according to their works.

⁶ seeing it is a just thing with God to recompense tribulation to those that trouble you ⁷ and to give you, who are troubled, rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with the angels of his power,

² For if the word spoken by the ministry of angels was steadfast and every rebellion and disobedience received a just recompense of reward,

²⁶ esteeming the reproach of the Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt, for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward.

⁵ If the wise will hear them, doctrine shall increase, and the man of understanding shall acquire wise counsel:

⁷ ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹² ¶ There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

¹⁶ ¶ The wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is confident.

² ¶ All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirits.

²⁵ ¶ There is a way that seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

²⁰ ¶ Hear counsel, and receive chastening that thou may be wise in thy old age.

² ¶ Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD weighs the hearts.

¹² ¶ Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

¹⁶ ¶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can give him counsel.

¹¹ ¶ The rich man is wise in his own conceit, but the poor that has understanding is wiser than he.

¹² There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.

¹³ ¶ Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king who will no longer be admonished.

¹⁵ Then Jeremiah said unto Zedekiah, If I declare it unto thee, wilt thou not surely put me to death? and if I give thee counsel, thou wilt not hearken unto me. ¹⁶ So Zedekiah the king swore secretly unto Jeremiah, saying, As the LORD lives, that made us this soul, I will not put thee to death, neither will I give thee into the hand of these men that seek thy life. ¹⁷ Then said Jeremiah unto Zedekiah, Thus hath the LORD, the God of the hosts, the God of Israel said: If thou wilt assuredly go forth unto the king of Babylon’s princes, then thy soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and thou shalt live, and thine house: ¹⁸ but if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand. ¹⁹ And Zedekiah the king said unto Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews that are fallen to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me. ²⁰ But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver thee. Hear now the voice of the LORD, which I speak unto thee: so it shall be well unto thee, and thy soul shall live. ²¹ But if thou refuse to go forth, this is the word that the LORD hath showed me: ²² and, behold, all the women that are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Thy friends have deceived thee and have prevailed against thee; thy feet are sunk in the mire, and they are turned away back. ²³ So they shall bring out all thy wives and thy children to the Chaldeans; and thou shalt not escape out of their hand but shalt be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon; and thou shalt cause this city to be burned with fire. ²⁴ Then said Zedekiah unto Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and thou shalt not die. ²⁵ But if the princes hear that I have talked with thee, and they come unto thee, and say unto thee, Declare unto us now what thou hast said unto the king, hide it not from us, and we will not put thee to death; also what the king said unto thee: ²⁶ then thou shalt say unto them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there. ²⁷ Then all the princes came unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all those words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived. ²⁸ So Jeremiah abode in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken; and he was there when Jerusalem was taken.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

³ For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

³⁰ Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion and unto the confusion of thy mother’s shame? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives upon the land, thou shalt not be established nor thy kingdom. Therefore, now send and bring him unto me, for he shall surely die. ³² And Jonathan answered Saul his father and said unto him, Why shall he be slain? What has he done? ³³ And Saul cast a spear at him to smite him whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David. ³⁴ So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger and ate no food the second day of the new moon, for he was grieved for David and because his father had done him shame.

¹ ¶ And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and of how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. ² Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if by tomorrow at this time I have not made thy person as one of them.

¹² ¶ Hatred stirs up strifes, but love covers all sins.

³³ ¶ Wisdom shall rest in the heart of him that is sane and is made known in the midst of the fools.

²² ¶ Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

⁹ ¶ He that covers a transgression seeks love, but he that repeats a matter separates very friends.

²⁸ ¶ The man whose spirit has no restraint is like a city that is broken down and without walls.

¹¹ ¶ The fool gives full rein to his spirit, but the wise man in the end will bring it into rest.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;

¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who is so faithful among all thy slaves as David, the king’s son-in-law, who goes at thy bidding and is honourable in thy house? ¹⁵ Did I begin to enquire of God for him today? Be it far from me; let not the king impute any thing unto his slave nor to all the house of my father, for thy slave knew nothing of all this, less or more.

¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

⁵ ¶ The true witness will not lie, but the false witness will utter lies.

²⁵ ¶ The true witness delivers souls, but the deceitful one speaks lies.

⁵ ¶ A false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

²⁸ ¶ A witness of Belial shall scorn judgment, and the mouth of the wicked shall cover iniquity.

²⁸ ¶ The false witness shall perish, but the man that hears shall stand fast in his word.

²⁸ ¶ Do not be a false witness against thy neighbour, and do not flatter with thy lips.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

⁵⁹ Now the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

¹³ and set up false witnesses, who said, This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law,

¹⁶ ¶ having a good conscience, so in that which they murmur against you as of evildoers, those that blaspheme your good conversation in the Christ may be confused.

² Thy tongue devises wickedness like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ My soul is among lions, and I lie even among those that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Behold, they belch out with their mouth; swords are in their lips; for who, say they, doth hear?

³ Who whet their tongue like a sword and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words

²² For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

²⁰ ¶ The tongue of the just is as choice silver, but the understanding {Heb. heart} of the wicked is worth little. ²¹ The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of wisdom.

¹⁷ ¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.

⁴ ¶ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

⁷ ¶ The lips of the wise disperse wisdom, but the heart of the foolish does not so.

²⁴ ¶ Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and medicine to the bones.

¹⁸ ¶ A man that bears false witness against his neighbour is a maul and a sword and a sharp arrow.

³³ And the wise among the people shall give wisdom to many, yet they shall fall by the sword, and by fire, by captivity, and by spoil, for some days.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of beings in the sea may be tamed and is tamed by mankind, ⁸ but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be restrained and is full of deadly poison.

¹⁶ And he had in his right hand seven stars, and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword, and his countenance was as the sun when it shines in its strength.

² In the midst of her plaza and on either side of the river was the tree of life, which brings forth twelve manner of fruits, yielding her fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the Gentiles.

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

⁴ Thou dost love all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. ⁵ God shall likewise cast thee down for ever; he shall cut thee off and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.

⁹ ¶ The false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

⁴ Do not be as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Turn now from your evil ways and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, said the LORD. ⁵ Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever? ⁶ But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my slaves the prophets, did they not take hold of your fathers? Therefore they returned from captivity and said, Like as the LORD of the hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways and according to our doings, so has he dealt with us.

³⁵ The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to defraud of the price of the land? ⁴ Retaining it, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. ⁵ Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and gave up the spirit; and great fear came on all those that heard these things. ⁶ And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out and buried him. ⁷ And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. ⁸ Then Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yes, for so much. ⁹ Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those who have buried thy husband are at the door and shall carry thee out. ¹⁰ Then she fell down straightway at his feet and yielded up the spirit; and the young men came in and found her dead and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

²⁴ ¶ He that hates dissembles with his lips and lays up deceit within him; ²⁵ when he speaks fair, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Even though his hatred is covered up in the desert, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government is placed upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called The Wonderful One, The Counsellor, The God, The Mighty One, The Eternal Father, The Prince of Peace. ⁷ The multitude of his dominion and the peace shall have no end upon the throne of David and upon his Kingdom, ordering it and confirming it in judgment and in righteousness from now on even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of the hosts will perform this.

¹⁶ For I did not take it upon myself to be a pastor following thee; neither have I desired the woeful day; thou dost know: that which came out of my lips has come forth in thy presence.

¹³ He shall build the temple of the LORD, and he shall bear the glory and shall sit and rule upon his throne, and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the sons of God.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth the evil thoughts, the adulteries, the fornications, the murders, ²² the thefts, the covetousness, the wickedness, the deceit, the lasciviousness, the evil eye, the slander, the pride, the unwiseness:

¹⁴ And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art a man of truth who regards no man; for thou dost not look upon the appearance of men, but dost with truth teach the way of God; is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not? ¹⁵ Shall we give or shall we not give? Then he, understanding their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? Bring me the coin that I may see it. ¹⁶ And they brought it. And he said unto them, Of whom is this image and inscription? And they said unto him, Of Caesar. ¹⁷ And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Render that which is of Caesar unto Caesar, and that which is of God unto God. And they marvelled at this.

²⁹ being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

¹⁴ Follow peace with everyone and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:

⁸ ¶ And finally, be ye all of one consent, of one affection, loving each other fraternally, merciful, courteous, ⁹ not rendering evil for evil or curse for curse, but to the contrary, blessing, knowing that ye are called, that ye should possess a blessing by inheritance. ¹⁰ For he that desires to love life and see the good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips that they speak no guile; ¹¹ let him separate himself from evil and do good; let him seek peace and follow it. ¹² For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers; but the face of the Lord is against those that do evil. ¹³ And who is he that can harm you, if ye are followers of that which is good?

¹⁰ no evil shall befall thee, neither shall any plague come near thy dwelling.

¹⁴ ¶ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man shall be separated from him.

¹² ¶ Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, Every bottle shall be filled with wine; and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine? ¹³ Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I fill all the inhabitants of this land with drunken ness, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne and the priests and the prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁴ And I will break them one against another, even the fathers with the sons together, saith the LORD; I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy to not destroy them.

¹⁶ Thou hast filled thyself with dishonour instead of honour; drink thou also, and thy foreskin shall be uncovered; the cup of the LORD’s right hand shall be turned unto thee, and shameful vomit shall fall upon thy glory.

²⁸ And we now know that unto those who love God, all things help them unto good, to those who according to the purpose are called to be saints.

²² whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or things present or things to come, all are yours; ²³ and ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

¹⁷ For our tribulation, which is momentary and light, prepares an exceeding and eternal weight of glory unto us;

¹³ And who is he that can harm you, if ye are followers of that which is good?

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you and pay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has given thee to drink, give her double.

¹⁶ These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

¹ ¶ A false balance is abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight.

²⁰ ¶ They that are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the LORD, but such as are perfect in their way are his delight.

⁸ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁵ The ancient and venerable to look upon is the head; the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.

²⁴ but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands me and knows me, that I am the LORD who does mercy, judgment, and righteousness in the earth: for in these things I delight, said the LORD.

¹⁹ And will ye profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, slaying the souls that should not die and giving life to the souls that should not live, by your lying to my people that listen to the lie?

²² Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and ye strengthen the hands of the wicked that he should not leave his wicked way, encouraging him:

⁸ But the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

¹⁵ But outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolaters and whosoever loves and makes a lie.

¹⁴ ¶ Wise men keep knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near unto calamity.

¹⁹ ¶ In the multitude of words there is no lack of rebellion, but he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹³ A talebearer reveals secrets, but he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter.

¹⁶ ¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.

³ Even when the fool walks by the way, he lacks prudence, and he says unto every one that he is a fool.

¹² ¶ The words from the mouth of the wise man are grace, but the lips of the fool will swallow up himself. ¹³ The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness, and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. ¹⁴ The fool multiplies words and says, Man cannot tell what shall be, and what shall be after him, who can tell him?

¹⁵ and he saw that rest was good and the land that it was pleasant and bowed his shoulder to bear and became a servant unto tribute.

²¹ their children that were left after them in the land, whom the sons of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, upon those Solomon levied a tribute of bondservice unto this day.

²⁸ And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour, and Solomon, seeing that the young man was industrious, he made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.

²⁰ And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation and made him king over all Israel; there were none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

⁴ ¶ He that deals with a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁷ ¶ The deceitful man does not even roast that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.

⁴ ¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

² ¶ A prudent slave shall have rule over a son that causes shame and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

¹⁵ ¶ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and the negligent soul shall suffer hunger.

²⁵ ¶ The desire of the slothful kills him; for his hands refuse to labour. ²⁶ There is one who covets greedily all day long, but the righteous gives and keeps on giving.

¹³ ¶ The slothful man says, There is a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.

²⁹ ¶ Seest thou a man diligent in his work? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before obscure men.

³⁰ ¶ I went by the field of the slothful and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding, ³¹ and, behold, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered its face, and its stone wall was broken down. ³² Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it and received chastening. ³³ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ³⁴ So shall thy poverty come as one that travels and thy want as an armed man.

¹³ ¶ The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. ¹⁴ ¶ As the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed. ¹⁵ ¶ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth. ¹⁶ ¶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can give him counsel.

¹ ¶ And it came to pass in the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of Artaxerxes, the king, that as wine was before him, I took up the wine and gave it unto the king. And as I had not been sad before in his presence, ² the king said unto me, Why is thy countenance sad, seeing thou art not sick? This is nothing else but brokenness of heart. Then I was very sore afraid

⁶ I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

¹¹ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Wait thou for God, for I shall yet praise him, who is the saving health of my countenance and my God.

¹⁸ ¶ There are those that speak like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise is medicine.

¹⁰ ¶ The heart knows the bitterness of his soul, and a stranger shall not intermeddle with his joy.

¹³ ¶ A joyful heart makes a beautiful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is abated.

¹⁵ ¶ All the days of the poor are difficult, but he that is of a good heart has a continual feast.

²² ¶ A joyful heart shall do good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

¹⁴ ¶ The spirit of man will bear his infirmity, but a broken spirit who can bear?

¹¹ ¶ A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold inscribed with silver.

⁹ ¶ Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart, so does the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

⁴ ¶ The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of the wise that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary; he wakes up early, early shall he awaken my ear, that I might hear, as the wise.

¹³ And the LORD answered good words unto the angel that talked with me, words of consolation.

³³ And he takes with him Peter and James and John and began to be alarmed and to be anguished ³⁴ and said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death; tarry ye here, and watch.

⁴ For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know how much more charity I have towards you. ⁵ ¶ But if any have caused me grief, he has not grieved me, but in part, that I may not put a burden on you all. ⁶ Sufficient to such a one is this reprehension, which was inflicted of many. ⁷ So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with too much grief.

³ to the saints that are in the earth and to the excellent: all my delight is towards them.

¹² At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. ¹³ The LORD thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

¹³ ¶ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of the tribulation.

²⁷ ¶ He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

⁴⁶ For if ye love those who love you, what reward shall ye have? Do not even the publicans the same? ⁴⁷ And if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye more than others? Do not even the publicans so? ⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father who is in the heavens is perfect.

³² For if ye love those who love you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to those who do good to you, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to those of whom ye hope to receive, what grace shall ye have? for sinners also lend to sinners to receive as much again. ³⁵ But rather love ye your enemies and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great; and ye shall be the sons of the Most High, for he is kind even unto the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

¹³ ¶ Let no one say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither does he tempt anyone: ¹⁴ But each one is tempted, when they are drawn away of their own lust and enticed.

¹⁸ Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and humane, but also to the unjust. ¹⁹ For this is due to grace, if a man for conscience toward God endures grief, suffering wrongfully. ²⁰ For what glory is it if, when ye are buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is due to grace from God. ²¹ Because for this were ye called: for the Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps

¹⁸ For speaking arrogant words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from those who converse in error, ¹⁹ promising them liberty, being they themselves the slaves of corruption: for he who is overcome by someone is subject to bondage by the one that overcame him. ²⁰ Certainly, if having separated themselves from the contaminations of the world, by the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they again entangle themselves therein and are overcome, their latter end is made worse for them than the beginnings. ²¹ For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them. ²² But it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog returns unto his own vomit, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

²⁶ These things I have written unto you concerning those that seduce you.

⁹ And the great dragon was cast out, the serpent of old, who is called Devil and the Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

¹⁴ and deceives those that dwell on the earth by those signs which were given unto him to do in the presence of the beast, commanding those that dwell on the earth to make an image of the beast, which has the wound by the sword, and did live.

¹⁶ Tet A little that a righteous man has is better than the many riches of the sinners.

¹⁶ ¶ Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

⁸ ¶ Better is a little with righteousness than a great number of fruits with injustice.

² and put a knife to thy throat if thou art a man given to appetite.

¹⁵ ¶ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth.

¹⁵ ¶ See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;

¹¹ For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

¹⁶ ¶ The work of the righteous is unto life, but the fruit of the wicked is for sin.

¹⁹ ¶ As righteousness is unto life, so he that pursues evil pursues it unto his own death.

⁹ walks in my statutes, and keeps my rights, to do according to the truth: he is just; he shall surely live, said the Lord GOD.

²⁰ The soul that sins, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him who is righteous, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him who is wicked. ²¹ ¶ But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he has committed and keep all my statutes and live according to judgment and righteousness, he shall surely live, he shall not die. ²² All his rebellions that he has committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him; by his righteousness that he has done he shall live. ²³ Do I desire perchance the death of the wicked? said the Lord GOD, Shall he not live if he should leave his ways? ²⁴ But if the righteous should leave his righteousness and commit iniquity, and do according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, shall he live? All his righteousness that he has done shall not be mentioned; by his rebellion in which he has trespassed and by his sin which he has committed, because of them he shall die.

²¹ so that in the same manner as sin has reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus, the Christ, our Lord.

²² But now freed from sin and made slaves to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life. ²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹¹ ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live temperately, righteously, and godly in this present world;

²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous, also know that any one that does righteousness is born of him.

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you; he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he also is righteous.

¹¹ Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God, but he that does evil has not seen God.
