¹ ¶ A false balance is abomination to the LORD, but a just weight is his delight. ² ¶ When pride comes, then comes shame, but with the humble is wisdom. ³ ¶ The perfection of the upright shall guide them in the way, but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them. ⁴ ¶ Riches shall not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness shall deliver from death. ⁵ ¶ The righteousness of the perfect shall straighten his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. ⁶ The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but transgressors shall be imprisoned in their own sin. ⁷ ¶ When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes, and the hope of unjust men shall perish. ⁸ ¶ The righteous is delivered out of the tribulation, and the wicked takes his place. ⁹ ¶ The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbour, but the just are delivered with wisdom. ¹⁰ ¶ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices, and when the wicked perish, there are feasts. ¹¹ By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. ¹² ¶ He that is void of understanding despises his neighbour, but the intelligent man remains silent. ¹³ A talebearer reveals secrets, but he that is of a faithful spirit conceals the matter. ¹⁴ ¶ When intelligence is lacking, the people shall fall, but in the multitude of counsellors there is salvation. ¹⁵ ¶ With anxiety shall he that is surety for a stranger be afflicted, and he that hates suretiship shall live securely. ¹⁶ ¶ The gracious woman retains honour, and strong men retain riches. ¹⁷ ¶ The merciful man does good to his own soul, but the cruel man troubles his own flesh. ¹⁸ ¶ The wicked works a deceitful work, but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward. ¹⁹ ¶ As righteousness is unto life, so he that pursues evil pursues it unto his own death. ²⁰ ¶ They that are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the LORD, but such as are perfect in their way are his delight. ²¹ ¶ No matter how many covenants he has made with death, the wicked shall not be absolved, but the seed of the righteous shall escape. ²² ¶ As a gold ring in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion. ²³ ¶ The desire of the righteous is only good, but the hope of the wicked is wrath. ²⁴ ¶ There are those who scatter, and more is added unto them; and there are those who withhold more than is just, but come to poverty. ²⁵ ¶ The soul who is a blessing unto others shall be made fat, and he that fills shall be filled also himself. ²⁶ ¶ He that withholds the grain, the people shall curse him, but blessing shall be upon the head of him that sells it. ²⁷ ¶ He that seeks good early shall find favour, but unto him that seeks evil, it shall come upon him. ²⁸ ¶ He that trusts in his riches shall fall, but the righteous shall flourish as a branch. ²⁹ ¶ He that troubles his own house shall inherit the wind, and the fool shall be slave to the wise of heart. ³⁰ ¶ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that wins souls is wise. ³¹ ¶ The righteous shall certainly be recompensed in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!

³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measurement of land, in weight, or in other measure. ³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin shall ye have. I AM your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

¹³ ¶ Thou shalt not have in thy bag different weights, a great and a small. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not have in thy house different measures, a great and a small. ¹⁵ But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have, that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God gives thee. ¹⁶ For all that do such things and all that do unrighteously are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

¹¹ ¶ A just weight and balance are the LORD’s; all the weights of the bag are his work.

¹⁰ ¶ Double weights and double measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD.

²³ ¶ Double weights are an abomination unto the LORD, and a false balance is not good.

¹⁰ Ye shall have just balances and a just ephah and a just bath. ¹¹ The ephah and the bath shall be of one measure, that the bath may contain the tenth part of an homer, and the ephah the tenth part of an homer: the measure thereof shall be after the homer. ¹² And the shekel shall be twenty gerahs; twenty shekels, with twenty-five shekels, and fifteen shekels, shall be your maneh.

⁷ ¶ He is a merchant who has the balances of deceit in his hand; he loves to oppress.

⁵ saying, When the month is over, we will sell the wheat; and after the sabbath day we will open the storehouse of bread, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit; ⁶ that we may buy the poor for money and the needy for a pair of shoes and sell the refuse of the wheat.

¹⁰ Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked and the scant measure that is abominable? ¹¹ Can I be pure with false balances and with a bag of deceitful weights?

³⁴ Surely he scorns the scorners; but he gives grace unto the humble. ³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

³³ ¶ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, and before honour is humility.

¹⁸ ¶ Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. ¹⁹ ¶ It is better to humble your spirit with the lowly than to divide the spoil with the proud.

¹² ¶ Before being broken, the heart of man is haughty, and before coming into honour, comes being brought to humility.

²³ ¶ A man’s pride shall bring him low, but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

³⁰ the king spoke and said, Is this not the great Babylon that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power and for the glory of my greatness? ³¹ The word was yet in the king’s mouth when there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O King Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee; ³² and they drive thee from among men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field; and they shall feed thee as the oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee until thou know that the most High takes rule in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever he will.

⁸ When thou art called to a wedding by anyone, do not sit down in the highest place, lest a more honourable man than thou be invited of him, ⁹ and he that called thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place, and thou begin with shame to have the lowest place. ¹⁰ But when thou art called, go and sit down in the lowest place that when he that invited thee comes, he may say unto thee, Friend, come up higher; then shalt thou have glory in the presence of those that sit at the table with thee. ¹¹ For whosoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

¹ ¶ Now as concerning things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but charity edifies. ² And if anyone thinks that they know anything, they know nothing yet as they ought to know.

²¹ Tau Integrity and uprightness shall preserve me, for I have waited for thee.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Judge me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity; I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

⁵ ¶ The righteousness of the perfect shall straighten his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.

⁶ ¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

³ ¶ The foolishness of man perverts his way, and his heart is wroth against the LORD.

⁷ ¶ The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them because they refuse to do judgment.

¹⁸ ¶ Whosoever walks in integrity shall be saved, but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall into one of them.

¹⁷ Do not be hasty to condemn, neither be thou foolish: why should thou die in the midst of thy labours?

²⁸ And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and those that forsook the LORD shall be consumed.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it is of God or whether I speak of myself.

¹ ¶ And the LORD said unto Noah, Enter thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

¹⁸ Therefore it is to be feared that he take thee away with a stroke, which cannot be avoided even with a great ransom. ¹⁹ Will he esteem thy riches? No, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

⁶ ¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him; ⁸ (for the redemption of their soul is of great price, and they shall never pay it)

² ¶ Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.

²⁸ ¶ In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.

¹⁹ They shall cast their silver in the streets and their gold far from them their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD; they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels because it shall be the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath, but the whole earth shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the earth.

²⁶ For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up?

¹⁷ For if by one offense, death reigned because of one man; much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of gifts and of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus the Christ.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

²³ And when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass and arose, and went home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order and hanged himself and died and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

³ Then Esther, the queen, answered and said, If I have found grace in thy sight, O king and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me at my petition and my people at my request. ⁴ For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. If we had been sold for menslaves and womenslaves, I would remain silent, even though the enemy could not recompense the damage to the king. ⁵ And King Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther, the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that has filled his heart with the arrogance to do so? ⁶ Then Esther said, The man who is the adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. ⁷ ¶ And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden, and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther, the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. ⁸ Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine, and Haman had fallen upon the bed upon which Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? When this word went out of the king’s mouth, they covered Haman’s face. ⁹ Then said Harbonah, one of the eunuchs before the king, Behold also, the gallows {Heb. stake} fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him upon it. ¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath was pacified.

¹⁵ The Gentiles are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid their own foot is taken. ¹⁶ The LORD is known by the judgment which he has executed; the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion (meditate on this for ever). Selah.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel. ³² For the rest of the ignorant shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

⁶ In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

²² His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins.

³ ¶ The perfection of the upright shall guide them in the way, but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

⁴ saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? Thou shalt see to it. ⁵ And casting down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed and went and hanged himself.

³³ So shall my righteousness answer for me tomorrow, when my hire shall come before thy face; each one that is not speckled and spotted among my goats and brown among my sheep shall be counted stolen with me.

³⁷ Whereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? Set it here before my brethren and thy brethren that they may judge between us both.

³ Behold, here I am; witness against me before the LORD and before his anointed. If I have taken anyone’s ox or if I have taken anyone’s ass or if I have defrauded anyone or if I have oppressed anyone or if I have received a bribe {Heb. ransom} from anyone to blind my eyes, I will restore it you. ⁴ And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us nor oppressed us; neither hast thou taken anything of any man’s hand.

³² And the LORD shall return his blood upon his own head, who fell upon two men more righteous and better than he and slew them with the sword without my father David knowing of it: Abner, the son of Ner, captain of the host of Israel, and Amasa, the son of Jether, captain of the host of Judah. ³³ Their blood shall, therefore, return upon the head of Joab, and upon the head of his seed for ever; but upon David and upon his seed and upon his house and upon his throne shall there be peace for ever from the LORD.

⁴⁴ The king said moreover to Shimei, Thou knowest all the wickedness which thy heart knoweth well that thou didst to David my father; therefore, the LORD has turned thy wickedness upon thine own head;

¹⁵ He made a pit and deepened it and shall fall into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ His work shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

⁸ He that digs a pit shall fall into it, and whosoever breaks a hedge, a serpent shall bite him.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. ¹⁰ Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them. They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God, and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish. ¹⁴ For his hope shall be cut off, and his trust is a spider’s web.

²⁰ But the eyes of the wicked shall consume themselves, and they shall have no refuge, and their hope shall be agony of the soul.

⁴ His spirit shall go forth, he shall return to his earth; in that very day all his thoughts shall perish.

²⁸ The hope of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked shall perish.

³² ¶ For his wickedness shall the wicked be cast out, but the righteous in his death has hope.

⁹ Wilt thou yet say before him that slays thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and not God, in the hand of him that slays thee.

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up?

¹⁸ ¶ The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.

³ For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Keeper; I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. ⁴ Because thou wast precious in my sight, thou wast worthy of honour, and I have loved thee.

²³ Then the king was exceeding glad because of him and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury was found upon him because he believed in his God. ²⁴ And the king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and even before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions had the mastery of them, and broke all their bones in pieces.

¹⁸ And the other said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art, and an angel spoke unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thy house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him. ¹⁹ So he went back with him and ate bread in his house and drank water. ²⁰ And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the word of the LORD came unto the prophet that brought him back, ²¹ and he cried unto the man of God that came from Judah, saying, Thus hath the LORD said, Forasmuch as thou hast rebelled against the mouth of the LORD and hast not kept the commandment which the LORD thy God commanded thee, ²² but didst come back and hast eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of which the LORD did say to thee, Eat no bread and drink no water; thy carcase shall not come unto the sepulchre of thy fathers.

⁶ Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall I go against Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up, for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

²⁰ And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said in this manner and another said in that manner. ²¹ And there came forth a spirit and stood before the LORD and said, I will persuade him. ²² And the LORD said unto him, In what manner? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also; go forth and do so. ²³ Now, therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD has decreed evil concerning thee.

¹³ So are the paths of all that forget God, and the hypocrite’s hope shall perish.

³⁰ that the hypocrite not reign, lest the people be ensnared.

¹² For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it, neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him:

²⁰ He has put forth his hands against such as be at peace with him; he has defiled his covenant. ²¹ The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart; his words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

¹⁰ ¶ When wisdom enters into thine heart and knowledge is sweet unto thy soul, ¹¹ discretion shall preserve thee, intelligence shall keep thee ¹² to deliver thee from the evil way, from the man that speaks perversion, ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil and delight in wicked perversion, ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and they are crooked in their paths; ¹⁶ to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words,

⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee.

²³ For the commandment is fire, and the law is light; and reproofs of chastening are the way of life, ²⁴ to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

¹⁵ ¶ Keep yourselves also from the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

⁵ But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, Whatever I might have helped thee with is already my offering unto God, ⁶ and now has no need to honour his father or his mother with succour. Thus ye have made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. ⁷ Ye hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying, ⁸ This people draws nigh unto me with their mouth and honours me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. ⁹ But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines and commandments of men. ¹⁰ ¶ And calling the multitude unto him, he said unto them, Hear and understand: ¹¹ not that which goes into the mouth defiles the man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles the man. ¹² Then his disciples came and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this word? ¹³ But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone; they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into a pit.

¹⁴ ¶ But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation (spoken of by Daniel the prophet) standing where it ought not, he that reads, let him understand, then let those that are in Judaea flee to the mountains;

²² for false Christs and false prophets shall rise and shall show signs and wonders to seduce, if possible, even the elect. ²³ But take ye heed; behold, I have told you everything beforehand.

³⁰ Also from among your own selves, men shall arise, speaking perverse things to draw away disciples after themselves.

¹³ For these false apostles are deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And it is no marvel, for Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵ Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers transform themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.

¹³ until we all come forth in the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the coming of age of the Christ: ¹⁴ That we no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men and cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive,

⁸ And then shall that Wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the Spirit of his mouth and remove with the clarity of his coming: ⁹ that wicked one, who shall come by the working of Satan with great power and signs and lying miracles, ¹⁰ and with all deception of iniquity working in those that perish because they did not receive the charity of the truth, to be saved.

¹ ¶ Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, listening to spirits of error and doctrines of demons; ² that in hypocrisy shall speak lies; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron; ³ they shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth.

¹ ¶ But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who covertly shall bring in destructive sects and shall deny the Lord that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. ² And many shall follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the way of truth shall be blasphemed; ³ ¶ and in covetousness they shall make merchandise of you with feigned words, upon whom the condemnation from a long time ago does not delay, and their perdition does not sleep.

¹⁶ in almost all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, among which are some things that are hard to understand, which those that are ignorant and unstable twist, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. ¹⁷ Ye, therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things in advance, be on guard lest by the error of the wicked ye be deceived with the others and fall from your own steadfastness. ¹⁸ But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and until the day of eternity. Amen.

²¹ I have not written unto you as if ye ignore the truth, but as unto those that know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

²⁷ But the anointing which ye have received of him abides in you, and ye do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you of all things and is truth, and is no lie; and even as it has taught you, abide ye in him.

²¹ And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.

³¹ So let all thine enemies perish, O LORD, but let those that love thee be as the sun when he rises in all his might. And the land had rest forty years.

¹⁵ ¶ And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white and with a great crown of gold and with a mantel of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad. ¹⁶ The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honour.

²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and from his place they shall hiss at him.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous; verily there is a God that judges in the earth.

¹² ¶ When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory, but when the wicked rise, the sane man hides himself.

²⁸ ¶ When the wicked rise, sane men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous multiply.

¹ ¶ And after these things I heard a great voice of a great company in the heaven, saying, Halelu-JAH; Salvation and glory and honour and power unto the Lord our God; ² for true and righteous are his judgments; for he has judged the great whore, who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and has avenged the blood of his slaves at her hand. ³ And again they said, Halelu-JAH. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever. ⁴ And the twenty-four elders and the four animals fell upon their faces and worshipped God that was seated upon the throne, saying, Amen! Halelu-JAH! ⁵ ¶ And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his slaves and ye that fear him, both small and great. ⁶ And I heard as it were the voice of a great company and as the voice of many waters and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Halelu-JAH; for the Lord God almighty reigns. ⁷ Let us be glad and rejoice and give glory to him; for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his bride has made herself ready.

³⁸ And Pharaoh said unto his slaves, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is? ³⁹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God has showed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art. ⁴⁰ Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled; only in the throne will I be greater than thou. ⁴¹ And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt. ⁴² Then Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand and put it upon Joseph’s hand and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen and put a gold chain about his neck;

⁸ So now it was not you that sent me here, but God; and he has made me as a father to Pharaoh and lord of all his house and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.

¹ ¶ And a man of Belial happened to be there, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a man of Jemini, and he blew the shofar, saying, We have no part in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, O Israel.

²⁰ And for this cause Hezekiah, the king, and the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven. ²¹ And the LORD sent an angel who cut off all the mighty men of valour and the captains and the princes in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And as he entered into the house of his god, those that had come forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword. ²² Thus, the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hands of Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, and from the hands of all others and guided them concerning everything.

⁸ And Haman said unto King Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the peoples in all the provinces of thy kingdom, and their laws are different from all other people; neither do they observe the king’s laws: therefore, it is not profitable for the king to allow them to remain. ⁹ If it pleases the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed; and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the public works, to bring it into the king’s treasuries. ¹⁰ And the king took his ring from his hand and gave it unto Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the Jews’ enemy. ¹¹ And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to thee, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to thee. ¹² Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and it was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king’s lieutenants and to the governors that were over each province and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof and to every people after their language; in the name of King Ahasuerus it was written and sealed with the king’s ring. ¹³ And the letters were sent by posts into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey. ¹⁴ The copy of the writing was to be given as law in every province that it be published unto all the peoples, that they should be ready against that day. ¹⁵ The posts went out in haste by the king’s commandment, and the law was given in Shushan, the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city of Shushan was perplexed.

¹ ¶ Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his law drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, it was turned to the contrary; for the Jews took dominion over those that hated them. ² The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt; and no one could withstand them, for the fear of them had fallen upon all the peoples. ³ And all the princes of the provinces and the lieutenants and the captains and officers of the king helped the Jews because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them. ⁴ For Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces, for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater. ⁵ Thus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword and slaughter and destruction and did what they would unto those that hated them. ⁶ And in Shushan, the palace, the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men. ⁷ Then they also slew Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Poratha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vajezatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman, the son of Hammedatha; the enemy of the Jews, they slew, but on the spoil they did not lay their hand. ¹¹ On the same day the number of those that were slain in Shushan, the palace, was brought before the king. ¹² And the king said unto Esther, the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan, the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? Now what is thy petition, and it shall be granted thee? What is thy request further, and it shall be done? ¹³ Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows. {Heb. stake} ¹⁴ And the king commanded it to be so done; and it was given as law at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons. ¹⁵ And the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together also on the fourteenth day of the month Adar and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the spoil they did not lay their hand. ¹⁶ And the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces also gathered themselves together and stood for their lives and had rest from their enemies and slew of their foes seventy-five thousand, but they did not lay their hands on the spoil,

³⁰ He shall deliver the island of the innocent; and in the pureness of thine hands thou shalt be kept.

³⁴ ¶ Righteousness exalts a people, but sin is a reproach to the nations.

⁸ ¶ Scornful men bring a city into a snare, but wise men turn away wrath.

¹⁵ now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no one remembered that same poor man.

⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

²⁷ And they went out into the fields and gathered their vineyards and trod the grapes and made merry and went into the house of their gods and ate and drank and cursed Abimelech. ²⁸ And Gaal, the son of Ebed, said, Who is Abimelech and who is Shechem that we should serve him? Is he not the son of Jerubbaal? And is not Zebul his deputy? Serve the men of Hamor, the father of Shechem. For why should we serve him? ²⁹ If these people were under my hand, then I would remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army and come out.

³⁸ Then Zebul said unto him, Where is now thy mouth, with which thou didst say, Who is Abimelech that we should serve him? Is not this the people that thou hast despised? Go out now and fight with them.

²⁷ But the sons of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him and brought him no presents. But he pretended not to notice.

³⁶ But the people remained silent and did not answer him a word, for the king had commanded, saying, Do not answer him.

² And he spoke before his brethren and the army of Samaria and said, What are these feeble Jews doing? Is this to be permitted them? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish on time? Will they resurrect the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish which were burned? ³ Now Tobiah, the Ammonite, was by him, and he said, Even that which they build, if a fox were to go up it, he would break down their stone wall. ⁴ Hear, O our God; for we are despised; and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of their captivity.

³ Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, for we are exceedingly weary of being held in contempt. ⁴ Our soul is exceedingly weary of the scorning of those that are at ease and of the contempt of the proud.

¹⁹ ¶ In the multitude of words there is no lack of rebellion, but he that refrains his lips is wise.

²¹ ¶ The sinner despises his neighbour, but he that has mercy on the poor is blessed.

¹⁴ And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things, and they derided him.

⁹ ¶ And he spoke this parable unto some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others:

⁴⁸ Have any of the princes or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who do not know the law are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus said unto them (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them), ⁵¹ Does our law judge any man before it hears him and knows what he does? ⁵² They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search and see, for a prophet has never arisen out of Galilee.

²³ who, when he was cursed, did not return the curse; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but committed himself to him that judges righteously;

¹⁶ Thou shalt not travel about as a talebearer among thy people; neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour. I am the LORD.

¹⁴ And the men answered her, Our life for yours if ye do not declare this our business. And it shall be when the LORD has given us the land, that we will deal with thee according to mercy and truth.

²⁰ And if thou should declare this our business, then we will be exempted of thine oath which thou hast made us swear.

¹⁷ Likewise, in those days the principals of Judah sent many letters unto Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came unto them. ¹⁸ For there were many in Judah sworn unto him, because he was the son-in-law of Shechaniah, the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam, the son of Berechiah. ¹⁹ They also reported his good deeds before me and uttered my words to him. And Tobiah sent letters to put me in fear.

⁵ ¶ The true witness will not lie, but the false witness will utter lies.

¹⁹ ¶ He that goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore meddle not with him that flatters with his lips.

⁹ Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself and do not uncover the secret to another

²⁰ ¶ Where there is no wood, the fire goes out, so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases. ²¹ Charcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife. ²² The words of a talebearer seem smooth, but they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

²⁷ Then all the princes came unto Jeremiah, and asked him: and he told them according to all those words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.

¹³ And reject also the idle, who have learned to wander about from house to house, and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

¹ ¶ And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king. ² And it came to pass, when Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it (for he had fled from the presence of King Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt), ³ that they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came and spoke unto Rehoboam, saying, ⁴ Thy father made our yoke grievous; now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee. ⁵ And he said unto them, Depart, and in three days come again to me. And the people departed. ⁶ Then King Rehoboam consulted with the old men that had stood before Solomon, his father, while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people? ⁷ And they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a slave unto this people this day and wilt serve them and answer them by speaking good words unto them, then they will be thy slaves for ever. ⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him and who stood before him. ⁹ And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father put upon us lighter? ¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spoke unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them: My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins. ¹¹ And now whereas my father ladened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father has chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. ¹² So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day. ¹³ And the king answered the people roughly and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him ¹⁴ and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke; my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions. ¹⁵ Therefore, the king did not hearken unto the people, for the cause was from the LORD, to confirm his word, which the LORD spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam, the son of Nebat. ¹⁶ ¶ So when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? There is no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents. ¹⁷ But Rehoboam reigned over the sons of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah. ¹⁸ Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute, but all Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. Then King Rehoboam made speed to get into his chariot and flee to Jerusalem. ¹⁹ So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

²² ¶ Without counsel purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

²² ¶ Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

¹⁸ ¶ Every thought must be ordered by counsel, and with intelligence war is made.

⁶ For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war, and in the multitude of counsellors there is saving health.

¹¹ Surely the princes of Zoan are fools; the counsel of the prudent counsellors of Pharaoh is become carnal; how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of the ancient kings? ¹² Where are they? Where are thy wise men? Let them tell thee now, or let them cause thee to know what the LORD of the hosts has purposed upon Egypt. ¹³ The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even those that are the stay of the tribes thereof. ¹⁴ The LORD has mingled a perverse spirit in its midst, and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggers in his vomit.

⁶ ¶ And the apostles and elders came together to consider of this matter. ⁷ And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God chose that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel and believe. ⁸ And God, who knows the hearts, bore them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us, ⁹ and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. ¹⁰ Now therefore why tempt ye God, putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? ¹¹ For we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. ¹² Then all the multitude kept silence and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what great miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. ¹³ And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: ¹⁴ Simeon has declared how God first visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. ¹⁵ And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, ¹⁶ After this I will return and will restore the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will repair its ruins, and I will set it up again, ¹⁷ that the men that are left might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who does all these things. ¹⁸ Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. ¹⁹ Therefore my sentence is that those from among the Gentiles who are converted to God not be troubled, ²⁰ but that we write unto them that they abstain from pollutions of idols and from fornication and from things strangled and from blood. ²¹ For Moses of old time has in every city those that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

¹ ¶ My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, ² thou art snared with the words of thy mouth; thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. ³ Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, for thou hast fallen into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. ⁴ Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. ⁵ Escape as a roe from the hand of the hunter and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

¹⁸ ¶ A man void of understanding strikes hands and becomes surety in the presence of his friend.

¹⁶ ¶ Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him that is surety for a strange woman.

²⁶ ¶ Be not thou one of them that strike hands or of them that are sureties for debts. ²⁷ If thou hast nothing to pay, why should they take away thy bed from under thee?

³² ¶ Then David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel who sent thee this day to meet me; ³³ and blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou who hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood and from avenging myself with my own hand.

¹⁶ Then a wise woman cried out in the city, Hear, hear, I pray you, tell Joab to come here, that I may speak with him. ¹⁷ And when he had come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I hear. ¹⁸ Then she spoke, saying, They used to speak in old times, saying, If you have a question ask it at Abel; and so they concluded the matter. ¹⁹ I am one of those that are peaceable and faithful in Israel, and thou seekest to destroy a city that is a mother in Israel; why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD? ²⁰ And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me that I should swallow up or destroy. ²¹ The matter is not so, but a man of Mount Ephraim, Sheba, the son of Bichri, by name, has lifted up his hand against King David; give only him over, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall. ²² Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba, the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew the shofar, and they retired from the city, each one to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

²⁵ but when she came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

³⁰ Schin Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but the woman that fears the LORD shall be praised. ³¹ Tau Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

¹³ Verily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman has done, be told for a memorial of her.

³ and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others who ministered unto him of their substance.

⁴² but only one thing is necessary, and Mary has chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

²¹ When an armed strong man keeps his palace, his goods are in peace; ²² but when another stronger than he shall come upon him and overcome him, he takes from him all his arms in which he trusted and divides his spoils.

² And he saw also a certain poor widow casting two mites in there. ³ And he said, Of a truth I say unto you that this poor widow has cast in more than they all; ⁴ for all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God, but she out of her poverty has cast in all the living that she had.

³⁹ Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas had made them while she was with them.

¹⁴ Then a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, who feared God, heard us, whose heart the Lord opened that she attended unto the things which were spoken by Paul. ¹⁵ And when she was baptized, with her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and abide there. And she constrained us.

² that ye receive her in the Lord as a worthy saint, and that ye assist her in whatever thing in which she has need of you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself also. ³ Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus ⁴ (who have for my life laid down their own necks; unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of the Gentiles);

⁶ Greet Mary, who has laboured much with us.

¹ ¶ The elder unto the chosen lady and her sons, whom I love in the truth, and not I only, but also all those that have known the truth,

¹⁹ Because he oppressed and forsook the poor; because he has violently taken away houses which he did not build, ²⁰ therefore, he shall not feel quietness in his belly; he shall not escape with that which he desired. ²¹ Nothing is left that he did not eat; therefore, his goods shall not last. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, he shall come into anguish; the hands of all the wicked shall come upon him. ²³ ¶ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him and shall rain it upon him and upon his food.

A Psalm of David. ¶ Blessed is he that understands regarding the poor; the LORD will deliver him in the day of evil. ² The LORD will preserve him and keep him alive, and he shall be blessed upon the earth, and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. ³ The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing; thou wilt soften all his bed in his sickness. ⁴ I said, LORD, be merciful unto me; heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.

⁴ Zain A light has shined in the darkness upon the upright: Cheth Gracious and merciful and righteous. ⁵ Teth A good man has mercy and lends; Jod He will govern his affairs with good judgment. ⁶ ¶ Caph Surely he shall not be moved for ever; Lamed the righteous shall be in eternal remembrance. ⁷ Mem He shall not be afraid of evil rumours; Nun his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD. ⁸ Samech His heart is established; he shall not be afraid, Ain until he sees his desire upon his enemies. ⁹ Pe He has dispersed; he has given to the poor; Tzaddi his righteousness endures for ever; Koph his horn shall be exalted in glory.

²⁷ ¶ He that is greedy of gain troubles his own house, but he that hates gifts shall live.

⁸ It is the man who is alone, without a successor, who has neither son nor brother; yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity and sore travail.

⁷ Certainly the greedy use evil measures: he devises wicked devices to ensnare the simple with lying words and to speak in judgment against the poor. ⁸ But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he rise.

¹ ¶ The righteous perishes, and no man lays it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother? ⁸ ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall gather thee. ⁹ Then shalt thou call, and thou shalt hear the LORD; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if thou pour out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: ¹¹ And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail. ¹² And they shall build up out of thee the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the fallen foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.

²⁷ Therefore, O king, approve my counsel and redeem thy sins with righteousness and thine iniquities with mercies unto the poor: behold the medicine for thy sin.

⁷ Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.

¹⁴ For if ye set men free from their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also set you free; ¹⁵ but if ye do not set men free from their trespasses, neither will your Father set you free from your trespasses.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in; ³⁶ naked, and ye clothed me; I was sick, and ye visited me; I was in prison, and ye came unto me. ³⁷ Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee? or thirsty and give thee drink? ³⁸ When did we see thee a stranger and take thee in? or naked and clothe thee? ³⁹ Or when did we see thee sick or in prison and come unto thee? ⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brothers, ye have done it unto me.

³⁸ give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down and shaken together and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye measure out it shall be measured to you again.

⁶ ¶ But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he who sows in blessings shall also reap blessings. ⁷ Each one according as they purpose in their heart, so let them give, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound in you that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains for ever. ¹⁰ Now he that supplies seed to the sower shall also supply bread for food and shall multiply your seed sown and shall increase the growing of the fruits of your righteousness, ¹¹ so that being enriched in everything to all generosity, which works out through us thanksgiving unto God. ¹² For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also abounds in much thanksgiving unto God; ¹³ that by the experience of this ministration, they glorify God for the obedience of your consent unto the gospel of the Christ and in your liberal distribution unto them and unto everyone, ¹⁴ and in their prayer for you, for they love you because of the eminent grace of God in you.

¹⁷ Not because I desire a gift, but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.

¹³ For judgment without mercy shall be done unto the one that has shown no mercy; and mercy boasts against judgment.

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices.

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God and the heritage of the violent, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If their sons are multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death; and their widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares raiment as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He built his house as a moth and as a booth that the keeper makes. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered; he shall open his eyes and not see anyone. ²⁰ Terrors shall take hold on him as waters; a whirlwind shall carry him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind shall take him away, and he shall depart; the storm shall catch him up out of his place. ²² For God shall cast down on him and not spare; he would attempt to flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and from his place they shall hiss at him.

⁵ Those that sow with tears shall reap with joy. ⁶ He that goes forth and weeps, bearing the precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls.

⁸ ¶ He that sows iniquity shall reap iniquity, and the rod of his anger shall fail.

⁵ They hatch cockatrice’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; whosoever shall eat of their eggs shall die, and if they should squeeze them, a viper shall come out. ⁶ Their cloth is unfit to be a garment, neither shall they cover themselves with their works; their works are works of violence, and the work of iniquity is in their hands. ⁷ Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are their paths. ⁸ The way of peace they did not know; nor is there anything straight about their ways; they have wilfully made themselves crooked paths; whosoever goes therein shall not know peace.

¹² Sow yourselves unto righteousness, reap yourselves unto mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is the time to seek the LORD until he comes and teaches you righteousness. ¹³ Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye shall eat the fruit of lies because thou didst trust in thy way and in the multitude of thy mighty men.

⁸ For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows in the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. ⁹ And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not.

²² that ye put off everything concerning the old way of life, that is, the old man who corrupts himself according to deceitful desires,

¹⁸ And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace unto those that make peace.

¹⁶ For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls. ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those that hate me love death.

¹⁶ ¶ The work of the righteous is unto life, but the fruit of the wicked is for sin.

⁴ ¶ Riches shall not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness shall deliver from death.

²³ ¶ The fear of the LORD is unto life, and he that has it shall live satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

³⁵ but in every nation he that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. ⁹ Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek;

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁷ Little children, let no one deceive you; he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he also is righteous.

¹⁰ In this the sons of God are manifest, and the sons of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness and that loves not his brother is not of God.

¹⁷ I know also, my God, that thou dost try the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy that thy people, who are present here, have given willingly unto thee.

⁷ For the righteous LORD loves righteousness; his countenance beholds the upright.

²⁵ With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; with a perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect; ²⁶ with the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; and with the perverse thou wilt show thyself adversary.

⁶ Behold, thou dost desire truth in the inward parts, and in the secret things thou hast made me to know wisdom.

¹ ¶ ALEPH. Blessed are those who walk in the perfect way, who walk in the law of the LORD.

¹³ Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

¹⁴ there is perversion in his heart; he devises evil continually; he sows discord.

¹⁶ These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: ¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to evil, ¹⁹ a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

¹³ The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; pride, arrogancy, the evil way, and the perverse mouth, do I hate.

⁷ He that chastens a scorner brings shame unto himself, and he that chastens a wicked man brings himself a blot.

²² ¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but the workers of the truth are his delight.

⁸ ¶ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

¹⁷ ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

²⁹ ¶ The wicked man hardens his face, but as for the upright, he orders his ways.

⁷ ¶ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee. ⁸ And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

² Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause hiding behind many to wrest judgment;

²⁶ He is ever merciful and lends, and his seed is a blessing.

¹ ¶ Aleph Halelu-JAH. Blessed is the man that fears the LORD, Beth that delights greatly in his commandments. ² Gimel His seed shall be mighty upon earth; Daleth the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

²² ¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

⁵ ¶ Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; the covenant that he makes, shall not be without chastening.

⁴ Fury is not in me: who would set the briers and thorns against me in battle? I would tread them down, I would burn them together.

³⁹ and I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for ever for the good of them and of their sons after them:

³⁹ For the promise is unto you and to your children and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

⁴⁷ And I asked her and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore unto him. Then I put the pendant over her nose and the bracelets upon her hands.

¹⁰ and, behold, a woman met him with the attire of a harlot, and subtil of heart.

¹³ ¶ A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple and knows nothing.

³⁰ Schin Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but the woman that fears the LORD shall be praised.

¹⁵ ¶ But thou didst trust in thine own beauty and didst play the harlot because of thy renown and didst pour out thy fornications on every one that passed by; thou wert his. ¹⁶ And of thy garments thou didst take and make altars of divers colours and play the harlot thereupon; the like shall not come again, neither shall it be so. ¹⁷ Thou hast taken likewise the vessels of thy beauty of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee and made to thyself images of men and didst commit whoredom with them ¹⁸ And thou didst take thy garments of many colours and cover them; and thou hast set my oil and my incense before them. ¹⁹ My bread also which I had given thee; the fine flour and the oil and the honey with which I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour; and thus it was, said the Lord GOD. ²⁰ Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these thou hast sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter, ²¹ that thou hast sacrificed my children and given them over to them that they might cause them to pass through the fire unto them? ²² And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms hast thou not remembered the days of thy youth when thou wast naked and bare? Thou wast polluted in thy blood.

⁴ because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the harlot of beautiful grace, the mistress of witchcrafts that sells the Gentiles into slavery through her whoredoms and peoples through her witchcrafts. ⁵ Here I am against thee, saith the LORD of the hosts, and I will uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and I will show the Gentiles thy nakedness and the kingdoms thy shame. ⁶ And I will cast abominable filth upon thee and make thee vile and will set thee as dung.

³ Let their adorning not be outward with ostentatious hairdos and wearing of gold nor in composition of apparel, ⁴ but let the interior adorning of the heart be without corruption, and of an agreeable spirit and peaceful, which is precious in the sight of God.

²² But it has happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog returns unto his own vomit, and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

¹⁷ LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart; thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

⁴ One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life to behold the beauty of the LORD and to enquire in his temple.

⁴ In the same manner delight thyself in the LORD, and he shall give thee the desires of thy heart.

⁷ ¶ And now, Lord, what shall I wait for? My hope is in thee. ⁸ Deliver me from all my rebellions; do not make me the reproach of the foolish.

⁵ O that my ways were ordered to keep thy statutes!

¹⁰ ¶ With my whole heart I have sought thee; O let me not err from thy commandments.

⁷ ¶ When the wicked man dies, his hope perishes, and the hope of unjust men shall perish.

⁹ With my soul I desire thee in the night; yea, even as long as the spirit is within me I will seek thee early: for as long as thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.

¹⁶ For I did not take it upon myself to be a pastor following thee; neither have I desired the woeful day; thou dost know: that which came out of my lips has come forth in thy presence.

⁶ Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

²⁷ but a certain fearful hope of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

¹⁰ Thou shalt surely give unto him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him because for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works and in all that thou puttest thine hand to.

⁹ Pe He has dispersed; he has given to the poor; Tzaddi his righteousness endures for ever; Koph his horn shall be exalted in glory.

¹⁸ ¶ The wicked works a deceitful work, but to him that sows righteousness shall be a sure reward.

¹⁷ ¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

⁸ ¶ He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

¹ ¶ Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven and even to eight, for thou dost not know what evil shall come upon the earth.

⁶ In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand; for thou knowest not which shall prosper, either this or that or whether they both shall be equally good.

⁶ Ye have sown much and bring in little; ye eat, but ye are not filled; ye drink, but ye are not satisfied; ye clothe yourselves, but you are not warm; and he that is a hireling receives his wages in a bag with holes.

⁹ Ye look for much and find little; and when ye lock it up at home, I shall blow upon it. Why? said the LORD of the hosts. Because my house is deserted, and ye run each one of you unto his own house. ¹⁰ Therefore the rain of the heavens over you is held back, and the earth has held back her fruits. ¹¹ And I called for a drought upon this land and upon the mountains and upon the wheat and upon the wine and upon the oil and upon that which the earth brings forth and upon the men, and upon the beasts and upon every labour of hands.

¹⁶ since these things were: when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the pressfat to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty. ¹⁷ I smote you with the east wind and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands, yet ye did not turn to me, said the LORD. ¹⁸ Consider now in your heart from this day forth, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, put your heart into it. ¹⁹ Is not the seed yet in the barn? Not even the vine, nor the fig tree, nor the pomegranate, nor the olive tree, has blossomed yet, but from this day will I bless you.

²⁹ Then the disciples, each one according to what he had, determined to send relief unto the brethren who dwelt in Judea, ³⁰ which they likewise did and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

⁵ Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would first go unto you and prepare beforehand your blessing, of which ye had given notice before that the same might be ready as a blessing, and not as of covetousness. ⁶ ¶ But this I say, He who sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he who sows in blessings shall also reap blessings. ⁷ Each one according as they purpose in their heart, so let them give, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ⁸ And God is able to make all grace abound in you that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: ⁹ As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains for ever. ¹⁰ Now he that supplies seed to the sower shall also supply bread for food and shall multiply your seed sown and shall increase the growing of the fruits of your righteousness, ¹¹ so that being enriched in everything to all generosity, which works out through us thanksgiving unto God.

¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me as a robe; and my diadem was judgment. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy; and the cause which I did not know I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the fangs of the wicked and caused their teeth to release the prey. ¹⁸ ¶ Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ or have eaten my morsel alone and the fatherless has not eaten thereof; ¹⁸ (for from my youth the fatherless was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided the widow from my mother’s womb) ¹⁹ if I have seen any perish for want of clothing or any needy without a covering; ²⁰ if his loins have not blessed me and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²⁷ ¶ He that gives unto the poor shall never lack, but he that hides his eyes from the poor shall have many a curse.

⁸ But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he rise.

⁷ Is it not to share thy bread with the hungry and that thou bring the poor that are cast out into thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou not hide thyself from thy brother? ⁸ ¶ Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall gather thee. ⁹ Then shalt thou call, and thou shalt hear the LORD; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; ¹⁰ and if thou pour out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: ¹¹ And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

³⁴ Then shall the King say unto those on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; ³⁵ for I was hungry, and ye gave me food; I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger, and ye took me in;

⁶ And Joseph was the lord over the land, and he it was that sold the wheat to all the people of the land; and Joseph’s brethren came and bowed down themselves before him with their faces to the earth.

¹³ The blessing of the one that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

²⁴ He that saith unto the wicked, Thou art righteous; him shall the peoples curse, nations shall abhor him:

⁴ ¶ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, and cut off the poor of the land,

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s wrath was pacified.

² The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me, into the midst of which they are fallen themselves. Selah.

¹¹ ¶ The rebellious man seeks only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

¹² lest peradventure when thou hast eaten and art full and hast built goodly houses and dwelt therein, ¹³ and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied and all that thou hast is multiplied, ¹⁴ then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery,

²⁴ ¶ If I have made gold my hope or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; ²⁵ if I rejoiced because my wealth was being multiplied, and because my hand had gotten much;

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

⁶ ¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

⁷ Behold, this is the man that did not make God his strength, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and strengthened himself in his wickedness. ⁸ But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the eternal mercy of God for ever.

¹⁰ Trust not in violence and become not vain in the taking of spoil; if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

¹² The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree; he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. ¹³ Those that are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. ¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be vigorous and flourishing

¹⁵ ¶ The rich man’s wealth is his strong city; the weakness of the poor is their poverty.

²¹ And thy people shall all be righteous; they shall inherit the land for ever; they shall be shoots of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.

⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, that spreads out her roots by the river and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green and shall not be fatigued in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

²⁴ And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answered again and said unto them, Children, how hard is it for those that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ It is easier to pass a cable through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

¹⁷ Charge those that are rich in this world, that they not be highminded, not placing their hope in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

³⁰ And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

²⁴ Then Joshua and all Israel with him took Achan, the son of Zerah, and the silver and the garment and the wedge of gold and his sons and his daughters and his oxen and his asses and his sheep and his tent and all that he had, and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. ²⁵ And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? The LORD shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones and burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.

³ Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail. And she was a woman of good understanding and of a beautiful countenance, but the man was hard and evil in his doings, and he was of the lineage of Caleb.

¹⁷ Now, therefore, know and consider what thou must do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household, for he is such a son of Belial that no one can speak to him.

³⁸ And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, and he died.

¹⁹ ¶ Those who are evil shall bow before those who are good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

¹⁶ And this also is a sore evil; that in all points as he came, so shall he go; and what profit has he that has laboured for the wind?

⁷ For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind; they shall have no harvest; the fruit shall yield no meal: if so be it yields, the strangers shall swallow it up.

⁹ Woe to him that covets ill-gotten gain by violence for his house that he may set his nest on high, that he may escape from the power of evil! ¹⁰ Thou hast taken shameful counsel for thy house by cutting off many peoples and hast committed a sin against thy life.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her, and blessed is every one that retains her.

⁴ ¶ The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

³ And those that understand shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and those that teach righteousness to the multitude as the stars in perpetual eternity.

¹⁹ And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

⁹ For he was overcome with fear, and all that were with him, at the catch of the fishes which they had taken; ¹⁰ and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from now on thou shalt catch men.

³⁶ And he that reaps receives wages and gathers fruit unto eternal life, that both he that sows and he that reaps may rejoice together.

¹⁹ ¶ Therefore, though I am free regarding everyone, yet I have made myself slave unto all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to those that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain those that are under the law; ²¹ to those that are without law, as without law (being not without law of God, but under the law of Christ), that I might gain those that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak; I am made all things to everyone, that I might by all means save some. ²³ And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker together of it.

¹⁹ For what is our hope or joy or crown of rejoicing? Is it not you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?

²⁰ let that one know, that whosoever causes the sinner to convert from the error of his way shall save a soul from death and shall cover a multitude of sins.

¹⁴ I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the stripes of the sons of men; ¹⁵ but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I took away from before thee.

⁹ Why, therefore, hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou hast done it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.

²⁴ and as he went, a lion met him by the way and slew him, and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, and the lion also stood by the carcase.

²¹ ¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

²⁹ For, Behold, I begin to bring evil upon the city which is called by my name, and should ye only be absolved? Ye shall not be absolved, for I bring the sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, said the LORD of the hosts.

³⁰ For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. ³¹ For if we would examine ourselves, we should not be judged. ³² But being judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁷ For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?
