³¹ ¶ The righteous shall certainly be recompensed in the earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner!

Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou hast done it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.

²⁴ and as he went, a lion met him by the way and slew him, and his carcase was cast in the way, and the ass stood by it, and the lion also stood by the carcase.

²¹ ¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

²⁹ For, Behold, I begin to bring evil upon the city which is called by my name, and should ye only be absolved? Ye shall not be absolved, for I bring the sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, said the LORD of the hosts.

³⁰ For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. ³¹ For if we would examine ourselves, we should not be judged. ³² But being judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

¹⁷ For it is time that the judgment begins from the house of God; and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those that do not obey the gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous are saved with difficulty, where shall the unfaithful and the sinner appear?
