²⁵ If one man sins against another, the judges shall judge him, but if someone sins against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they did not hearken unto the voice of their father because the LORD had already decided to kill them.

¹ ¶ Hearken, ye sons, unto the chastening of the father, and pay attention that ye might know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine; do not forsake my law. ³ For I was my father’s son, tender and unique in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He taught me and said unto me, Sustain thine heart with my words; keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding; forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee; love her, and she shall keep thee. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. ⁸ Grow in wisdom, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou hast embraced her. ⁹ She shall give to thine head an increase of grace; a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my words, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied. ¹¹ I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have caused thee to walk in right paths. ¹² When thou goest in these paths, thy steps shall not be hindered; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. ¹³ Take fast hold of chastening; do not let go; keep this; for it is thy life. ¹⁴ ¶ Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

²⁰ ¶ My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my words. ²¹ Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. ²² For they are life unto those that find them and medicine to all their flesh.

⁷ He that chastens a scorner brings shame unto himself, and he that chastens a wicked man brings himself a blot. ⁸ Chasten not a scorner lest he hate thee; chasten a wise man, and he will love thee.

¹⁴ ¶ Therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that have taken rule over this people which is in Jerusalem. ¹⁵ Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we are at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood we have hid ourselves:

⁸ For the cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he pours out of the same; yea, the dregs thereof, shall wring out and swallow up all the wicked of the earth.

¹¹ The man with an evil tongue shall not be established in the earth; evil shall hunt the man of violence to overthrow him.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause. ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit; ¹³ We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil.

¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls.

³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.

¹¹ ¶ The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life, but the mouth of the wicked covers violence.

¹⁴ ¶ Man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, and the recompense of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

²⁰ ¶ A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth, and with the product of his lips shall he be filled.

²⁷ Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said; Drink and be drunken, and vomit and fall, and ye shall not rise in the presence of the sword which I send among you. ²⁸ And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup from thine hand to drink, then thou shalt say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Ye must certainly drink. ²⁹ For, Behold, I begin to bring evil upon the city which is called by my name, and should ye only be absolved? Ye shall not be absolved, for I bring the sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, said the LORD of the hosts. ³⁰ ¶ Therefore, thou shalt prophesy against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high and from the habitation of his holiness he shall utter his voice; in fury he shall roar upon his habitation; he shall sing the song of those that tread grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. ³¹ The noise came even to the ends of the earth; for it is judgment of the LORD with the Gentiles; he is the Judge of all flesh; he will give those that are wicked to the sword, said the LORD.

⁸ Because thou hast spoiled many nations, all the other peoples shall spoil thee because of human blood and for the robberies of the land, of the cities, and of all that dwell therein.

¹⁷ For the violence of Lebanon shall fall upon thee and the destruction of the wild beasts shall break thee, because of the human blood, and of the robbery of the land, of the cities, and of all that dwell therein.

⁶ for they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they deserve it.

¹ To the Overcomer, even to Jeduthun,
A Psalm of David. ¶ I said, I will take heed to my ways that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bit while the wicked is against me.

¹⁹ ¶ In the multitude of words there is no lack of rebellion, but he that refrains his lips is wise.

¹³ ¶ The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips, but the just shall come out of the tribulation.

⁷ A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

²¹ ¶ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat its fruit.

¹⁹ ¶ He that goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; therefore meddle not with him that flatters with his lips.

²³ ¶ Whosoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

³⁶ But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks to be religious and does not bridle his tongue, but deceives his own heart, his religion is vain.

² For we all offend in many things. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to govern the whole body with restraint. ³ Behold, we put bits (or restraint) in the horses’ mouths to persuade them, and we govern their whole body. ⁴ Behold also the ships, which though they are so great are driven of fierce winds, yet they are governed with a very small rudder, wherever the governor desires. ⁵ In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell. ⁷ For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of beings in the sea may be tamed and is tamed by mankind, ⁸ but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be restrained and is full of deadly poison. ⁹ With it we bless God, even the Father; and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. ¹¹ Does a fountain send forth at the same place both sweet and bitter water? ¹² Can the fig tree, my brethren, produce olive berries? or the vine, figs? In the same manner no fountain can yield both salt water and fresh.

¹⁰ Who shall count the dust of Jacob and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!

¹⁴ They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be vigorous and flourishing

² so that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom and apply thine heart to intelligence, ³ yea, if thou criest for understanding and givest thy voice unto intelligence, ⁴ if thou seekest her as silver and searchest for her as for hid treasures, ⁵ then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom; out of his mouth comes knowledge and intelligence. ⁷ He keeps the person of the upright; he is a buckler to those that walk perfectly, ⁸ keeping the paths of judgment and the way of his merciful ones. ⁹ Then shalt thou understand righteousness and judgment and equity, yea, every good path.

³⁴ Blessed is the man that hears me, keeping vigil at my gates, waiting at the threshold of my doors.

⁴ ¶ He that deals with a slack hand becomes poor, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

²⁵ ¶ The soul who is a blessing unto others shall be made fat, and he that fills shall be filled also himself.

¹¹ ¶ He that tills his land shall be satisfied with bread, but he that follows vain persons is void of understanding.

²⁴ ¶ The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the negligent shall be under tribute.

¹³ ¶ The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

²⁵ ¶ He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife, but he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

¹¹ And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

²⁷ Labour not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you, for him has God the Father sealed.

¹¹ But we desire that each one of you show the same diligence until the end for the fulfillment of your hope,

⁵ ¶ Ye also, giving all diligence to the same, show forth virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge; ⁶ and in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God; ⁷ and in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity. ⁸ For if these things are in you and abound, they shall not let you be idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ But he that lacks these things is blind and walks feeling the way with his hand, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brethren, give all the more diligence to make your calling and election sure; for doing these things, ye shall never fall. ¹¹ Because in this manner the entrance shall be abundantly administered unto you in the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

¹⁶³ ¶ I hate and abhor lying, but I love thy law.

³⁵ The wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of fools.

¹⁷ A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

⁸ Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the bread of my judgment:

⁹ And those that escape of you shall remember me among the Gentiles where they shall be carried captives because I am broken because of your whorish heart, which has departed from me and because of your eyes, which went a whoring after your idols: and they shall loathe themselves for the evils which they have committed in all their abominations.

⁴³ And there ye shall remember your ways and all your doings, in which ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.

³¹ Then ye shall remember your own evil ways and your doings that were not good and shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

² And many of those that sleep in the dust of the earth shall be awakened, some for eternal life, and some for shame and everlasting confusion.

⁸ I also cut off three shepherds in one month; and my soul was in anguish for them, and their soul also abhorred me.

²⁵ Therefore, leaving the lie, speak every man truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another.

⁹ Lie not one to another, putting off the old man with his deeds

⁸ But the fearful and unbelieving and the abominable and murderers and fornicators and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

²³ for he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, who had smitten him, and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them; therefore, I will also sacrifice to them that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.

² He that walks in integrity and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart.

²¹ Tau Integrity and uprightness shall preserve me, for I have waited for thee.

¹ A Psalm of David. ¶ Judge me, O LORD, for I have walked in my integrity; I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide.

²² His own iniquities shall take hold of the wicked, and he shall be imprisoned with the cords of his sins.

³ ¶ The perfection of the upright shall guide them in the way, but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

⁵ ¶ The righteousness of the perfect shall straighten his way, but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. ⁶ The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them, but transgressors shall be imprisoned in their own sin.

¹² ¶ The righteous man wisely considers the house of the wicked, how God overthrows the wicked for their evil.

²⁴ ¶ There are those who scatter, and more is added unto them; and there are those who withhold more than is just, but come to poverty.

⁹ ¶ He that despises himself and becomes a slave is better than he that honours himself and lacks bread.

¹¹ ¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

¹ ¶ Cast thy bread upon the waters, for thou shalt find it after many days. ² Give a portion to seven and even to eight, for thou dost not know what evil shall come upon the earth.

²¹ So is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

³³ Sell what ye have and give alms; {lit. do acts of mercy}; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches neither moth corrupts.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee that I am not as other men are: extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast two meals every sabbath; I give tithes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God, reconcile me, a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for anyone that exalts himself shall be humbled, and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

⁸ Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye reign as kings without us, and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger and thirst and are ill clad and are buffeted and have no certain dwellingplace

⁷ But we have this treasure in clay vessels that the excellency of the virtue may be of God, and not of us.

¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world that they might be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to those that love him?

¹⁹ promising them liberty, being they themselves the slaves of corruption: for he who is overcome by someone is subject to bondage by the one that overcame him.

⁹ I know thy works and tribulation and poverty, (but thou art rich), and I know the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

¹⁷ Because thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing and knowest not that thou art wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,

³⁰ If there is laid on him a sum of money, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatever is laid upon him.

¹⁴ And he carried away all Jerusalem and all the princes and all the mighty men of valour, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths; none remained except the poorest sort of the people of the land.

¹² But the captain of the guard left of the poor of the land to be vinedressers and husbandmen.

⁴ And Satan answered the LORD and said, Skin for skin, all that a man has he will give for his life.

⁶ ¶ Those that trust in their wealth and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; ⁷ none of them can by any means ransom his brother, nor give God an atonement for him; ⁸ (for the redemption of their soul is of great price, and they shall never pay it) ⁹ that he should still live for ever and not see corruption. ¹⁰ For he sees that all the wise men die, likewise the fool and the ignorant perish and leave their wealth to others.

³⁵ He will not regard any ransom; neither will he want to forgive, though thou givest many bribes.

¹⁰ But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

⁸ But ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Slay us not: for we have treasures in the field, of wheat and of barley and of oil and of honey. So he forbare, and did not slay them among their brethren.

¹² I will also leave in the midst of thee a poor and humble people, and they shall wait in the name of the LORD.

²⁶ For what is a man profited if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹⁸ knowing that ye have been ransomed from your vain conversation (which you received from your fathers), not with corruptible things like silver and gold, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of the Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without contamination,

³⁶ And unto his son I will give one tribe, that David my slave may have a lamp always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name in her.

⁵ ¶ The light of the wicked shall certainly be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his lamp shall be put out with him.

¹⁷ ¶ How often is the lamp of the wicked put out and their destruction comes upon them, and God distributes sorrows upon them in his anger.

³ when his lamp shone upon my head, and by its light I walked in the darkness;

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ Zain A light has shined in the darkness upon the upright: Cheth Gracious and merciful and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the light of the morning star, that shines more and more until the day is perfect.

²⁰ ¶ Whosoever curses his father or his mother, his fire shall be put out in obscure darkness.

²⁰ for the evil man shall not come to a good end; the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

¹⁰ ¶ Who is among you that fears the LORD? Hearken unto the voice of his slave. He who walked in darkness and had no light; let him trust in the name of the LORD and stay upon his God. ¹¹ Behold, that all of you kindle fire and are compassed about with sparks; walk in the light of your fire and of the sparks that ye have kindled. From my hand has come this; ye shall be buried in sorrow.

¹³ Then the king said to the slaves, Bind him hand and foot and take him away and cast him into the darkness outside; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

⁸ And the foolish said unto the prudent, Give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out.

¹ ¶ And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus that thou didst not call us when thou didst go to fight against Midian? And they chided with him sharply. ² And he replied unto them, What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer? ³ God has delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb, and what was I able to do in comparison with you? Then their anger was abated toward him when he spoke that word.

¹ ¶ And the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together towards the Aquilon and said unto Jephthah, Why didst thou go over to fight against the sons of Ammon and didst not call us to go with thee? We will burn thy house upon thee with fire. ² And Jephthah replied unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the sons of Ammon, and when I called you, ye did not defend me from their hands. ³ Seeing, therefore, that ye did not defend me, I put my life in my hands and went over against the sons of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hand. Why then have ye come up against me this day to fight with me? ⁴ Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim because they had said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim; ye are Gileadites among Ephraim and Manasseh. ⁵ And the Gileadites took the passages of the Jordan from Ephraim; and it was such that when any of those of Ephraim who had escaped would say, May I pass? The men of Gilead would ask them, Art thou an Ephrathite? If he said, No; ⁶ then they would say unto him, Now say Shibboleth. {Heb. a flowing stream}. And he would say Sibboleth; {Heb. an ear of wheat}; for he could not pronounce it the same. Then they would take him and slay him at the passages of the Jordan. And at that time forty-two thousand of those of Ephraim fell.

¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spoke unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them: My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins. ¹¹ And now whereas my father ladened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father has chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

¹⁶ ¶ So when all Israel saw that the king did not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? There is no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

¹⁰ Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart has lifted thee up; glory in this, but tarry at home. Why should thou meddle in evil that thou should fall, even thou, and Judah with thee?

¹⁵ ¶ The way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but he that hears counsel is wise. ¹⁶ ¶ A fool’s wrath is presently known, but he who covers the injury is sane.

¹⁴ ¶ To release the waters (to speak rashly) is the beginning of contention; therefore, leave off strife before it gets started.

²⁰ ¶ Hear counsel, and receive chastening that thou may be wise in thy old age.

¹⁸ ¶ Every thought must be ordered by counsel, and with intelligence war is made.

²⁴ ¶ Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who deals in proud wrath.

⁸ ¶ Do not go forth hastily to strive lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof when thy neighbour has put thee to shame.

²⁸ For which of you intending to build a tower does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it? ²⁹ Lest perhaps after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, ³⁰ saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. ³¹ Or what king going to make war against another king does not sit down first and consult whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that comes against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an embassy and desires conditions of peace.

²⁴ And there was also a contention among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.

¹ ¶ And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, that their widows were neglected in the daily ministry. ² Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them and said, It is not right that we should leave the word of God and serve tables; ³ therefore, brethren, seek out among you seven men of whom you bear witness, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. ⁴ And we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word. ⁵ And the saying pleased the whole multitude, and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolas, a proselyte of Antioch:

⁴ he is puffed up, knowing nothing, but is driven mad concerning questions and controversy of words, of which comes envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,

¹⁴ But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, boast not and do not be liars against the truth. ¹⁵ This wisdom is not that which descends from above, but is earthly, natural, diabolical. ¹⁶ For where there is envy and contention, there is confusion and every perverse work.

¹ ¶ Where do the wars and disputes come from among you? From here that is to say, of your lusts which fight in your members?

⁵ Do ye think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy? ⁶ But he gives greater grace. Therefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

⁹ ¶ I wrote unto the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, did not receive us. ¹⁰ Therefore, if I come, I will cause his deeds to be understood, speaking against us with malicious words, and not content with this, he does not receive the brethren and forbids those that desire to receive them and casts them out of the congregation {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}.

²⁸ and he dwelt in desolate cities and in houses which no one inhabited, which were in heaps. ²⁹ He shall not become rich, nor shall his strength be established, neither shall he extend his beauty upon the earth.

¹⁵ He has swallowed down riches, but he shall vomit them up again; God shall cast them out of his belly.

¹⁹ Because he oppressed and forsook the poor; because he has violently taken away houses which he did not build, ²⁰ therefore, he shall not feel quietness in his belly; he shall not escape with that which he desired. ²¹ Nothing is left that he did not eat; therefore, his goods shall not last. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency, he shall come into anguish; the hands of all the wicked shall come upon him.

¹⁶ Though he heaps up silver as the dust and prepares raiment as the clay, ¹⁷ he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

² When thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands; happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.

² ¶ Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.

²² ¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. ²³ ¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

²¹ ¶ An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning, but the end thereof shall not be blessed.

²³ ¶ Be thou diligent to know the countenance of thy sheep, and put thy heart into thy herds. ²⁴ For riches are not for ever, and does the crown endure to every generation? ²⁵ The tender grass shows itself, and the hay appears, and the herbs of the mountains are reaped. ²⁶ The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are for the price of the field. ²⁷ And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance of thy maidens.

⁸ ¶ He that by usury and unjust gain increases his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

²⁰ ¶ The man of truth shall abound with blessings, but he that makes haste to be rich shall not be absolved.

²² ¶ He that hastens to be rich has an evil eye and does not consider that poverty shall come upon him.

¹⁴ which are lost by evil pursuits and to the sons which he has begotten; there is nothing left in his hand.

¹¹ As the partridge that steals that which she did not hatch, is he that gets riches and not with righteousness; in the midst of his days he shall leave them, and at his end shall be a fool.

⁶ Shall not all these take up a parable against him and a taunting enigma against him and say, Woe to him that multiplied that which was not his! And for how long would he pile thick clay upon himself? ⁷ Shall they not rise up suddenly that shall bite thee and awake those that shall take thy place, and thou shalt be for a prey unto them?

¹ ¶ Come now, Oh ye rich, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are rotten, and your garments are motheaten. ³ Your gold and silver is corrupted with rust; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you and shall completely eat your flesh, as fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. ⁴ Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped your fields (which you have kept back by fraud) cries out; and the cries of those who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of the hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth and been wanton; ye have refreshed your hearts, as in the day of slaughter of sacrifices.

⁶ Then Sarah said, God has made me to laugh so that all that hear will laugh with me. ⁷ And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? For I have born him a son in his old age.

³⁰ Then Israel said unto Joseph, Now let me die since I have seen thy face because thou art yet alive.

²⁶ And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul lives, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. ²⁷ For this child I prayed, and the LORD has given me my petition which I asked of him. ²⁸ Therefore, I also have given him back to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall belong to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

¹⁵ As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake with thy likeness.

² He brought me up also out of the pit of hopelessness, out of the miry clay and set my feet upon a rock and straightened my steps. ³ And he has put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many shall see it and fear and shall wait on the LORD.

¹ To the Overcomer: Maschil,
for the sons of Korah. ¶ As the hart pants after the water brooks, so does my soul pant after thee, O God. ² My soul thirsts for God, for the living God; when shall I come and appear before God? ³ My tears have been my food day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

³ I am weary of my crying; my throat is dried; my eyes fail while I wait for my God.

⁸¹ ¶ CAPH. My soul faints with desire for thy salvation as I await thy word. ⁸² Mine eyes fail for thy spoken word, saying, When wilt thou comfort me? ⁸³ ¶ For I am become like a wine skin in the smoke; yet I have not forgotten thy statutes.

⁷ ¶ Hear me speedily, O LORD; my spirit fails; hide not thy face from me lest I be like those that go down into the grave.

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those that lay hold upon her, and blessed is every one that retains her.

³⁰ ¶ The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and he that wins souls is wise.

¹⁹ ¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

⁸ I charge you, O virgins of Jerusalem, if ye should find my beloved that ye cause him to know how sick I am with love.

²⁹ Lord, now let thy slave depart in peace, according to thy word, ³⁰ for mine eyes have seen thy saving health,

²² And ye now therefore have sorrow; but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and no one shall take your joy from you.

² In the midst of her plaza and on either side of the river was the tree of life, which brings forth twelve manner of fruits, yielding her fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the Gentiles.

³¹ Because he has despised the word of the LORD and has made void his commandment, that person shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

⁹ Why, therefore, hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? Thou hast killed Uriah, the Hittite, with the sword and hast taken his wife to be thy wife and hast slain him with the sword of the sons of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now, therefore, the sword shall never depart from thy house because thou hast despised me and hast taken the wife of Uriah, the Hittite, to be thy wife.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God and despised his words and misused his prophets until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, and there was no remedy.

³ Now, therefore, let us make a covenant with our God to send away all the women and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of the Lord and of those that fear the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

¹¹ Moreover by them is thy slave warned, and in keeping them there is great reward.

¹³ He will bless those that fear the LORD, both small and great.

¹⁶⁵ ¶ Those who love thy law have great peace, and nothing shall cause them to stumble.

²⁵ for because ye have disregarded all my counsel and rejected my reproof:

³⁰ They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore they shall eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own counsel.

²¹ ¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

² For all these things my hand has made, by my hand has these things been, said the LORD; but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembles at my word.

² Then spoke Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou dost speak falsely; the LORD our God has not sent thee to say, Do not go into Egypt to sojourn there:

¹⁶ As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth out of our own mouth to burn incense unto the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings unto her as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem; for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they did not walk in my statutes, and they despised my rights, by which the man that does them shall live by them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted; therefore I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness to consume them.

¹⁶ because they despised my rights and did not walk in my statutes but polluted my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols.

²⁴ because they had not executed my rights and had despised my statutes and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers’ idols.

¹⁶ Then those that feared the LORD spoke one to another, and the LORD hearkened and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for those that feared the LORD and for those that think in his name.

¹² Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³¹ And he said unto him, If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, even though one rose from the dead.

²⁸ He that despised the law of Moses died without mercy under two or three witnesses: ²⁹ Of how much greater punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden underfoot the Son of God and has counted the blood of the covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing and has done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

⁸ Look to yourselves, that we not lose those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a fulfilled reward.

⁶ when the cords of Sheol compassed me about; the snares of death came before me; ⁷ in my distress I called upon the LORD and cried to my God, who heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry entered into his ears.

⁵ The pain of Sheol compassed me about: the snares of death came before me.

³ The sorrows of death compassed me and the pains of Sheol found me; I encountered trouble and sorrow.

¹¹ For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

²⁷ The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

²⁴ ¶ The way of life is uphill to the wise, that he may separate himself from Sheol below.

⁶ ¶ By mercy and truth iniquity is purged, and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

¹⁷ ¶ The highway of the upright is to separate himself from evil; he that keeps his way preserves his soul.

²² ¶ Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that has it, but the instruction of fools is folly.

¹⁴ And David behaved himself prudently in all his ways, and the LORD was with him. ¹⁵ Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved himself very prudently, he was afraid of him. ¹⁶ But all Israel and Judah loved David because he went out and came in before them.

⁹ When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. ¹⁰ Forty years long I was grieved with this generation and said, It is a people that err from the heart, who have not known my ways; ¹¹ unto whom I swore in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

⁴ So shalt thou find grace and good favour in the sight of God and man.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness; they do not know in what they stumble.

³⁵ ¶ The king’s favour is toward the wise slave, but his wrath is against him that causes shame.

¹⁰ ¶ Chastening is grievous unto him that forsakes the way, but he that hates reproof shall die.

¹⁹ Thine own wickedness shall chastise thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee; know therefore and see how evil and bitter it is, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God and that my fear is lacking in thee, saith the Lord GOD of the hosts.

⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom and in age and in grace with God and men.

¹⁰ and delivered him out of all his afflictions and gave him grace and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

²¹ What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

¹⁰ And Nabal answered David’s slaves and said, Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? There are many slaves nowadays that break from their masters. ¹¹ Shall I then take my bread and my water and my slaughtered meat that I have killed for my shearers and give it unto men that I do not know where they are from?

¹⁷ Now, therefore, know and consider what thou must do, for evil is determined against our master and against all his household, for he is such a son of Belial that no one can speak to him.

²⁵ Let not my lord, I pray thee, take to heart this man of Belial, even Nabal, for as his name is, so is he; Nabal {Heb. fool} is his name, and folly is with him; but I, thy handmaid, did not see the servants of my lord whom thou didst send.

⁵ Teth A good man has mercy and lends; Jod He will govern his affairs with good judgment.

²² ¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but the workers of the truth are his delight. ²³ ¶ The sane man conceals his wisdom: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

² ¶ The tongue of the wise shall adorn wisdom, but the mouth of fools shall speak foolishness.

³ Even when the fool walks by the way, he lacks prudence, and he says unto every one that he is a fool.

¹³ ¶ Behold, my slave shall be prospered; he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

¹⁶ ¶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore prudent as serpents and innocent as doves.

¹⁹ For your obedience is come abroad unto all places. I am glad therefore on your behalf, but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good and innocent concerning evil.

²⁰ Brothers, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice be ye children; but in understanding be perfect.

¹⁷ Therefore, be ye not unwise, but understanding of what the will of the Lord is.

²⁶ ¶ As vinegar to the teeth and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those that send him.

¹³ ¶ As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to those that send him, for he refreshes the soul of his master.

²³ ¶ The north wind drives away rain, so does an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

⁶ ¶ He that gives responsibility to one who is not able to carry it out is like him that sends a message by the hand of a fool, and he shall drink the damage.

¹³ And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied in Baal and caused my people Israel to err. ¹⁴ I have also seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem: they committed adultery and walked by lies; they strengthened also the hands of evildoers, that no none is converted from his malice; they are all of them unto me as Sodom and the inhabitants thereof as Gomorrah. ¹⁵ Therefore, thus hath the LORD of the hosts said against those prophets: Behold, I will cause them to eat wormwood and make them drink the waters of gall, for from the prophets of Jerusalem is hypocrisy gone forth upon all the land. ¹⁶ Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

²⁸ The prophet with whom the dream came, let him tell the dream; and he with whom my word came, let him speak my true word. What is the chaff to the wheat? said the LORD.

¹⁸ When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die and thou dost not give him warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, that he might live, the same wicked man shall die for his iniquity; but his blood I will require at thine hand.

⁷ So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth and warn them from me. ⁸ When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die for his sin; but I will require his blood at thine hand.

² Moreover, it is required in stewards that each one be found faithful.

¹⁷ For we are not as many, false merchandisers of the word of God, but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did exhort you by us; we beseech you in Christ’s name, be ye reconciled to God.

¹² ¶ And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has enabled me, for he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry,

² And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

⁵ ¶ Let the righteous smite me in mercy, and let him reprove me: and let not a flattering evil prince anoint my head, for my prayer shall ever be against his evil.

⁹ lest thou give thine honour unto others and thy years unto the cruel, ¹⁰ lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, and thy labours be in the house of a stranger, ¹¹ and thou mourn at the last when thy flesh and thy body are consumed ¹² and say, How have I hated chastening and my heart despised reproof ¹³ and have not obeyed the voice of those who chastened me, nor inclined my ear to those that instructed me! ¹⁴ I have been in almost every kind of evil, in the midst of society and of the congregation.

⁹ Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

¹ ¶ Whosoever loves chastening loves knowledge, but he that hates reproof is carnal.

¹³ ¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

³¹ ¶ The ear that hears the reproof of life shall abide among the wise. ³² ¶ He that refuses chastening despises his own soul, but he that hears reproof has an understanding heart.

⁶ ¶ Many will intreat the favour of the prince, but every man is a friend to him that gives.

¹² As an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold, so is he who reproves a wise man who has a docile ear.

³ O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? Thou hast stricken them, but they did not feel it; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive chastisement; they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. ⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they have become foolish; for they do not know the way of the LORD nor the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will go unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke and burst the bonds. ⁶ Therefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the desert shall destroy them and a tiger shall lie in wait over their cities; anyone that goes out from there shall be torn in pieces because their rebellions have been multiplied, and their backslidings are increased. ⁷ How shall I pardon thee for this? Thy sons have forsaken me and sworn by them that are not gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses. ⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning; each one neighed after his neighbour’s wife. ⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? said the LORD; and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

²⁵ See that you do not refuse him that speaks. For if those who refused him that spoke on earth did not escape, much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from the heavens,

⁴⁸ And also thus said the king, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne today, mine eyes even seeing it.

²⁸ And unto man he said, Behold, that the fear of the Lord, is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

A Psalm of David. ¶ The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy saving health how greatly shall he rejoice! ² Thou hast given him his heart’s desire and hast not withheld the request of his lips. Selah.

¹⁴ Nun Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

²⁷ Samech Depart from evil, and do good, and thou shalt live for evermore.

⁷ ¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil.

¹² ¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

²⁷ ¶ An unjust man is an abomination to the just, and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

⁴ It was but a little that I passed from them that I found him whom my soul loves: I held him and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house and into the chamber of her that brought me into the light.

¹⁹ ¶ Nevertheless, the foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows those that are his. And, Let every one that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

⁷ I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; ⁸ from now on there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all those also that have loved his appearing.

¹⁴ And I said unto him, lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are those who came out of great tribulation and have washed their long robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple, and he that is seated on the throne shall dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more neither thirst anymore; neither shall the sun be thrust upon them nor any other heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall govern them and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters, and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

¹² Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tents toward Sodom. ¹³ But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

¹² And they also took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods and departed.

⁸ But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him and who stood before him.

¹⁰ And the young men that were grown up with him spoke unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spoke unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them: My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

⁴ And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.

³² And when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, Surely this is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him, but Jehoshaphat cried out.

² And Jehu, the son of Hanani, the seer, went out to meet him and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should thou help the ungodly and love those that hate the LORD? Therefore, the wrath of the presence of the LORD shall be upon thee.

⁶³ ¶ I am a companion of all those that fear thee and of those that keep thy precepts.

¹¹ If they say, Come with us, let us lay in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without cause. ¹² Let us swallow them up alive as Sheol and whole as those that go down into the pit; ¹³ We shall find all kinds of riches, we shall fill our houses with spoil. ¹⁴ Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: ¹⁵ My son, do not walk in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: ¹⁶ For their feet shall run to evil and make haste to shed blood. ¹⁷ Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. ¹⁸ And they lay in wait for their own blood; they ambush their own souls. ¹⁹ So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain which takes away the life of those who possess it.

¹² to deliver thee from the evil way, from the man that speaks perversion, ¹³ who leave the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, ¹⁴ who rejoice to do evil and delight in wicked perversion, ¹⁵ whose ways are crooked, and they are crooked in their paths; ¹⁶ to deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger who flatters with her words, ¹⁷ who forsakes the prince of her youth and forgets the covenant of her God. ¹⁸ Therefore her house inclines unto death, and her paths unto the dead. ¹⁹ None that go unto her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life. ²⁰ That thou may walk in the way of good men and keep the paths of the righteous.

²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goes to the slaughter or as a fool to the correction of the stocks, ²³ until the arrow pierces through his liver. He is as a bird struggling in the snare and not knowing that it is against his own life.

²⁷ Her house is the way to Sheol, going down to the chambers of death.

⁶ Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding.

³¹ ¶ The ear that hears the reproof of life shall abide among the wise.

⁷ ¶ Tell me, O thou whom my soul loves, where thou dost feed, where thou dost make thy flock to rest at noon; for why did I have to be as a wanderer after the flocks of thy companions? ⁸ If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go forth, following the footprints of the flock and feed thy little female goats beside the booths of the shepherds.

⁴² ¶ And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship and in breaking of bread and in prayers.

³³ Be not deceived: evil companions corrupt good character. ³⁴ Watch diligently, and sin not; for some do not know God: I speak this to your shame.

¹⁴ Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship does righteousness have with unrighteousness? and what communion does light have with darkness? ¹⁵ And what concord does Christ have with Belial? or what part do the faithful have with the unfaithful? ¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them and walk in them and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ¹⁷ Therefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and do not touch the unclean thing; and I will receive you ¹⁸ and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

²⁴ And let us consider one another to provoke unto charity and unto good works,

⁴ And I heard another voice from the heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye not be partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

⁷ If thou doest good, it shall certainly be accepted; and if thou doest not good, sin lies at the door. And his desire shall be unto thee, but thou must rule over him.

²³ But if ye will not do so, behold, ye shall have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will catch up with you.

¹⁰ There are many sorrows for the wicked; but he that waits in the LORD, mercy shall compass him round about.

¹⁰ Say unto the righteous that it shall be well with him, for they shall eat of the fruit of their doings. ¹¹ Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him, for according to the work of his hands it shall be done unto him.

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped the sea, yet vengeance does not suffer him to live.

⁷ to those who persevered in well doing, glory and honour and incorruption, to those who seek eternal life; ⁸ but unto those that are contentious and do not obey the truth, but are persuaded by unrighteousness, indignation and wrath. ⁹ Tribulation and anguish shall be upon every human soul that does evil, the Jew first and also the Greek; ¹⁰ but glory, honour, and peace to everyone that works good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

⁷ ¶ And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee and to thy seed after thee. ⁸ And I will give unto thee and to thy seed after thee, the land in which thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting inheritance; and I will be their God.

¹² Now, therefore, do not give your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their prosperity forever, that ye may be strengthened, and eat the good of the land and leave it for an inheritance to your sons forever.

²⁸ The sons of thy slaves shall continue, and their seed shall be established before thee.

⁶ Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children and peace upon Israel.

²⁶ For God gives to the man that is good in his sight wisdom and knowledge and joy, but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to the one that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

⁶ ¶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise, ⁷ Who having no guide, overseer, or ruler, ⁸ provides her food in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest. ⁹ How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? ¹⁰ Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: ¹¹ So shall thy poverty come as one that travels and thy want as an armed man.

¹⁸ ¶ Whosoever keeps the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof, so he that waits on his master shall be honoured.

¹⁹ ¶ He that tills his land shall be filled with bread, but he that follows after vain persons shall be filled with poverty.

⁹ ¶ And there is higher authority in all of the things of the earth, but he who serves the field is king.

⁵ Whosoever keeps the commandment shall experience no evil thing, and a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgment. ⁶ ¶ Because for every will there is time and judgment, because the evil of man is great upon him, ⁷ Even the stork in the heaven knows her appointed time; and the turtle dove and the crane and the swallow observe the time of their coming; but my people did not know the judgment of the LORD. ⁸ How do ye say, We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us? Behold, certainly in vain did he make the pen; the scribes were in vain. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: behold, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them? ¹⁰ Therefore I will give their wives unto others and their fields unto those that shall inherit them: for each one from the least even unto the greatest is given to greed; from the prophet even unto the priest every one deals falsely.

¹² For the LORD chastens whom he loves and delights in, even as a father to his son.

³⁶ But he that sins against me wrongs his own soul; all those that hate me love death.

¹⁸ ¶ Chasten thy son while there is hope, but do not stir up thy soul to destroy him.

¹⁵ ¶ Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child, but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

¹³ Do not withhold correction from the child; for if thou shall beat him with the rod, he shall not die. ¹⁴ Thou shalt beat him with the rod and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

¹⁵ ¶ The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself shall bring his mother to shame.

¹⁷ ¶ Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; he shall give delight unto thy soul.

²⁶ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brethren and sisters, and even his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

⁶ for whom the Lord loves, he chastens and scourges everyone whom he receives as a son. ⁷ If ye endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? ⁸ But if ye are without chastisement, of which all the sons are partakers, then ye are bastards, and not sons.

⁴⁸ therefore, thou shalt serve thine enemies which the LORD shall send against thee, in hunger and in thirst and in nakedness and in lack of all things; and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck until he has destroyed thee.

²⁴ They shall be consumed with hunger and devoured with burning heat and with bitter destruction; I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.

¹⁰ Jod The young lions do lack and suffer hunger, but those that seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

³ Beth Wait in the LORD and do good; live in the land and uphold the truth.

¹⁶ Tet A little that a righteous man has is better than the many riches of the sinners.

¹⁸ Jod The LORD knows the days of the perfect, and their inheritance shall be for ever. ¹⁹ They shall not be ashamed in the evil time, and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.

³ The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish, but wickedness shall cast out the wicked.

¹³ Therefore thus has the Lord GOD said, Behold, my slaves shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my slaves shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my slaves shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: ¹⁴ Behold, my slaves shall rejoice by the joy of their heart, but ye shall cry for the sorrow of your heart and shall howl for the destruction of spirit.

¹⁰ For even when we were with you, this we declared unto you, that if anyone desires not to work neither should he eat.

⁸ For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

⁵ Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have; for he has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
