¹ After these things I perceived another messenger descending out of heaven, having great authority. And the earth is illuminated by his glory." ² And he cries with a strong voice, saying, "It falls! It falls! Babylon the great! And it became the dwelling place of demons and the jail of every unclean spirit and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird, ³ for, as a result of the wine of the fury of her prostitution have all the nations fallen. And the kings of the earth commit prostitution with her,and the merchants of the earth are rich as a result of her power to indulge." ⁴ And I hear another voice out of heaven, saying, "Come out of her, My people, lest you should be joint participants in her sins, and lest you should be getting of her calamities, ⁵ for her sins were piled up to heaven, and God remembers her injuries." ⁶ Pay her as she also pays, and double the doubles, in accord with her acts. In her cup in which she blends, blend double for her." ⁷ As much as she glorifies herself and indulges, so much torment and mourning be giving her, for she is saying in her heart, 'I am sitting a queen, and am no widow, and mourning I may by no means see.'" ⁸ Therefore in one day shall her calamities be arriving; death and mourning and famine. And she shall be burned up with fire, for strong is the Lord God Who judges her." ⁹ And the kings of the earth, who commit prostitution and indulge with her, will be lamenting and grieving over her whenever they may be observing the smoke of her conflagration, ¹⁰ standing afar off because of the fear of her torment, saying, 'Woe! Woe! that great city! Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour your judging came.'" ¹¹ And the merchants of the earth are lamenting and mourning over her, for no one is buying their cargo any longer:" ¹² a cargo of gold, and of silver, and of precious stones, and of pearls; and of cambric, and of purple, and of silk, and of scarlet; including also every kind of citron wood; and every ivory utensil, and every utensil of most valuable wood and of copper and of iron and of marble;" ¹³ including also cinnamon, and ginger, and incenses, and attar, and frankincense; and wine, and oil, and flour, and grain; and beasts, and sheep, and made up of horses, and of coaches, and of bodies, including also human souls." ¹⁴ And the fruition of your yearning soul passed away from you, and all that is sumptuous and splendid perished from you, and they will be finding them no longer under any circumstances.'" ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who are rich through her, will be standing afar off because of the fear of her torment, lamenting and mourning, ¹⁶ saying, 'Woe! woe! the great city clothed in cambric and purple and scarlet, and gilded with gold and precious stones, and pearl, ¹⁷ for in one hour was desolated so much riches!' "And every navigator, and every one who is sailing at the place, and mariners and whoever are working on the sea, stand afar off, ¹⁸ and, observing the smoke of her conflagration, they cried, saying, 'Is there any like this great city?'" ¹⁹ And they cast soil on their heads, and cried, lamenting and mourning, saying, 'Woe! Woe! the great city, by which all who have ships on the sea are rich as a result of its preciousness, for in one hour it was desolated!'" ²⁰ Make merry over her, O heaven, and ye saints and apostles and prophets, seeing that God judges by passing your sentence upon her." ²¹ And one strong messenger lifts a stone, as large as a millstone, and casts it into the sea, saying that "Thus Babylon, the great city, will be hurled down, and nevermore be found in it." ²² And the sound of lyre singers and entertainers, and of flutists and trumpeters should be heard in you nevermore; and every artificer of every trade may be found in you nevermore; and the sound of a millstone should be heard in you nevermore;" ²³ and the light of a lamp may be appearing in you nevermore; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride should be heard in you nevermore; for your merchants were the magnates of the earth, for by your enchantment all nations were deceived." ²⁴ And in it the blood of prophets and of saints was found, and of all of those slain upon the earth."

²⁰ And saying is Yahweh, "Seeing that the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is much, and that their sin is exceedingly heavy, ²¹ descend will I, pray, and see, do they according to all the cry which is coming to Me? And if not, I will know.

¹² And saying are the mortals to Lot, "Still any of yours here, sons-in-law, or your sons or your daughters, all who are yours in the city, bring forth from this place, ¹³ for ruining are we this place, for great is the cry concerning them before the face of Yahweh, and sending us is Yahweh to wreck it.

²⁸ And gazing is he on the surface of Sodom and Gomorrah and on all the surface of the land of the basin, and is seeing, and behold! Up go the fumes of the land as the fumes of a limekiln.

¹⁶ He who steals a man whether he sells him or he is found in his hand, he shall be put to death, yea death.

²³ Yet if a mishap comes to be then you will give soul for soul, ²⁴ eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ scorching for scorching, injury for injury, welt for welt.

¹³ These you shall regard as abominable among the flyers; they shall not be eaten; they are an abomination:the vulture, the bearded vulture and the eagle, ¹⁴ the black kite and the falcon, all of its kind, ¹⁵ every raven, all of its kind, ¹⁶ the ostrich, the screech owl, the gull and the hawk, all of its kind, ¹⁷ the little owl, the cormorant and the eagle owl, ¹⁸ the ibis, the pelican and the Egyptian vulture, ¹⁹ the stork, the heron, all of its kind, the hoopoe and the bat.

⁴ The rabble which was among them lusted after yearning; and again the sons of Israel lamented also and said:Who shall give us flesh to eat?

³⁴ One called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah, for there they entombed the people, the lusters.

²⁶ He spoke to the congregation, saying:Withdraw, I pray, from the tents of these wicked men! Do not touch anything which belongs to them lest you be swept up in all their sins. ²⁷ They moved away from the tabernacles of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, away from around them. As for Dathan and Abiram, they went forth, standing up at the opening of their tents with their wives, their sons and their little ones.

³⁴ Yet all Israel who were around them fled at their voice, for they said:Lest the earth swallow us up.

⁷ In case a man should be found stealing a soul from his brothers of the sons of Israel, and he makes a chattel of him or sells him, then that thief must die. Thus you will eradicate the evil from among you.

⁶⁸ Then Yahweh will bring you back complaining to Egypt by the way of which I said to you:You should not again see it further. There you will put yourselves up for sale to your enemies as servants and as maids, yet there will be no buyer.

²³ its whole land a burnt waste of sulfur and salt; it shall not be sown, neither shall it sprout, nor shall any herbage ascend in it, like the overturning of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overturned in His anger and in His fury-.

⁴² I shall make My arrows drunk with blood, and My sword shall devour flesh, the blood of the one mortally wounded and the captive, from the head of the enemy commanders.

⁶ And Joshua rends his garments, and falls on his face to the earth before the ark of Yahweh till the evening, he and the elders of Israel, and they cause dust to go up on their head.

³¹ So do all Your enemies perish, O Yahweh, And those loving Him [are] As the going out of the sun in its might!' and the land rests forty years.

⁸ and send to me cedar-trees, firs, and algums from Lebanon, for I have known that your servants know to cut down trees of Lebanon, and lo, my servants [are] with your servants,

⁶ and said:My Elohim, I am ashamed and confounded to raise up my face to You, my Elohim, for our depravities, they are abundant, above our heads, and our guilt is towering unto the heavens.

⁴ And there are who are saying, `We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, [on] our fields, and our vineyards;" ⁵ and now, as the flesh of our brethren [is] our flesh, as their sons [are] our sons, and lo, we are subduing our sons and our daughters for servants, and there are of our daughters subdued, and our hand has no might, and our fields and our vineyards [are] to others..

⁸ and say to them, `We have acquired our brethren the Jews, those sold to the nations, according to the ability that [is] in us, and you also sell your brethren, and they have been sold to us!' and they are silent, and have not found a word.

¹ And in the twenty and fourth day of this month have the sons of Israel been gathered, with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth upon them;"

¹² When they lifted their eyes from afar, they did not recognize him. Then they lifted their voice and lamented, while each one tore his robe, and they sprinkled soil toward the heavens on their heads.

¹⁹ As for vigor, behold the Resolute One, And as for judgment, who can issue an appointment to Him?

⁸ He shall fly away like a dream, and they shall not find him, For he shall be bolted away like a vision of the night.

¹⁷ How often is the lamp of the wicked extinguished That their calamity comes on them, That He apportions cramps in His anger?

⁴⁷ He is the One, El, Who is rendering vengeance for me, And He subdues the peoples under me,

³⁶ Yet I passed by, and behold, he was not there, And I sought him, and he was not found."

⁹ Daughters of kings are among Your precious ones; The consort is stationed at Your right hand with certified gold of Ophir.

¹¹ Mount Zion shall rejoice, The daughters of Judah shall exult, On account of Your judgments, O Yahweh."

³ As for scent, your attars are well pleasing; Your name is like attar as it is being emptied out; Therefore, the damsels love you."

¹ LOAD OF TYRE Howl! Ships of Tharshish. For it is devastated of house and entry. They come no longer from the land of Kittim. A deportation has arrived also to them. ² Be still! Dwellers of the coastland. The merchant of Sidon, passing over the sea, filled you, ³ and in many waters was the seed of the merchant. The harvest of the waterway was her income, and she became the mart of nations." ⁴ Be ashamed, Sidon! For the sea speaks, the stronghold of the sea, saying, "I have not travailed, nor have I borne, and not brought up choice men, nor raised virgins." ⁵ As the report progresses to Egypt, they will travail. As to the report of Tyre, ⁶ they pass it through toward Tharshish; they will howl! Dwellers of the coastland! ⁷ Was this your joy from the days aforetime? In antiquity her feet fetched her from afar to sojourn. ⁸ Who counseled this against Tyre, the crown giver, whose merchants were chiefs, her traffickers the glorious of the earth?

And leveling tape of chaos shall stretch out over it, and the plumb stones of vacancy." ¹² And its notables nowhere shall call it a kingdom, and all its chiefs shall come to a limit." ¹³ And briars shall come up in its citadels, the sting nettle and the thistle in its fortresses. And it becomes a homestead of jackals, and a court for the ostrich." ¹⁴ And falcons shall encounter each other in arid places, and the hairy goat shall call to its associate. Yea, there shall lull the hoot owl, and find for itself a rest." ¹⁵ There shall nest the scops owl, and it lays and hatches and sets in its shadow. Yea, there shall the black kites be convened, the dam with her mate."

² Speak you to the heart of Jerusalem, and call to her, for fulfilled is her enlistment, for run out is her depravity, for she takes from the hand of Yahweh a shelter from all her sins."

²³ Be jubilant, you heavens, for Yahweh does it! Shout, you nether parts of the earth! Crash, you mountains, into jubilation, you wildwood, and every tree within it! For Yahweh has redeemed Jacob, and in Israel He is beautifying Himself."

¹ Down! And sit on the soil, virgin daughter of Babylon! Sit on the earth, not on a throne, daughter of the Chaldeans! For no more shall they call you, `tender and delicate.'" ² Take a millstone and grind meal. Expose your draped form! Bare your skirt! Expose the leg! Pass over the streams!

You do not lay these things to heart; you are not mindful of your hereafter." <sup>8</sup> And now, hear this, luxuriant one, dwelling trustingly, who is saying in her heart, `I, and only I, further! I shall not sit, a widow, nor see bereavement.'" ⁹ Yet now these two shall come to you in a moment; in one day, bereavement and widowhood, suddenly they shall come on you in your many enchantments, in the staunchness of your magic charms, exceedingly."
