¹⁴ When the light is gone the murderer arises; He dispatches the humble and needy one; And in the night he becomes stealthy as a thief.

¹⁴ And it comes to pass in the morning, that David writes a letter unto Joab, and sends by the hand of Uriah;" ¹⁵ and he writes in the letter, saying, `Place you Uriah over-against the front of the severest battle, and you have turned back from after him, and he has been smitten, and has died.. ¹⁶ And it comes to pass in Joab's watching of the city, that he appoints Uriah unto the place where he knew that valiant men [are];" ¹⁷ and the men of the city go out and fight with Joab, and there fall [some] of the people, of the servants of David; and there dies also Uriah the Hittite.

⁸ He sits in ambush in the hamlets; In places of concealment he kills the innocent; His eyes lurk for the pauper. ⁹ He waits in ambush in concealment like a lion in its covert; He waits in ambush to kidnap the humble; He kidnaps the humble by drawing him into his net. ¹⁰ The distressed one is crushed and bows down, And the army of paupers falls prey to his staunch ones.

¹ Woe to devisers of lawlessness and contrivers of evil on their beds! In the light of the morning are they executing it, for it is at the disposal of their hand." ² And they covet fields and snatch them, and houses, and bear them away, and they extort the master and his house, the man and his allotment."

³⁹ Now this you know, that if the householder were aware at what hour the thief is coming, he would watch and would not let his house be tunneled into."

⁷ Do not, then, become joint partakers with them, ⁸ for you were once darkness, yet now you are light in the Lord." ⁹ As children of light be walking (for the fruit of the light is in all goodness and righteousness and truth), ¹⁰ testing what is well pleasing to the Lord. ¹¹ And be not joint participants in the unfruitful acts of darkness, yet rather be exposing them also,

² for you yourselves are accurately aware that the day of the Lord is as a thief in the night - thus is it coming!

³ Remember, then, how you have obtained, and hear; keep it and repent. If ever, then, you should not be watching, I shall be arriving on you as a thief, and under no circumstances will you be knowing what hour I shall be arriving on you."
