¹ It was in the days of Xerxes--that Xerxes who was reigning over 127 provinces from India unto Nubia. ² In those days when king Xerxes sat on his royal throne in the castle of Susa, ³ he gave a banquet in the third year of his reign for all his chief officials and courtiers:the retinue of Persia and Media, the highborn and the chiefs of the provinces who were before him, ⁴ when he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the esteem and beauty of his greatness, for many days--180 days. ⁵ And when these days were fulfilled, the king gave a seven-day banquet in the court of the king's garden pavilion for all the people found in the castle of Susa, from the greatest unto the smallest. ⁶ Awnings of pale cotton and blue wool were held with cord lines of fine linen and purple material on silver ring-bands and marble columns. There were couches of gold and silver on a pavement of porphyry, marble, mother-of-pearl and black marble. ⁷ Drinks were served in gold vessels, some vessels being diverse from other vessels, and the royal wine was abundant, according to the means of the king. ⁸ Yet drinking was according to this edict:There was to be no bother, for the king had made this deliberation to every wine steward of his household to serve according to each man's approval. ⁹ Queen Vashti too gave a banquet for the women at the royal house of king Xerxes. ¹⁰ On the seventh day, when the king's heart was cheerful with wine, he ordered Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Zethar and Carcas (the seven eunuchs ministering in the presence of king Xerxes), ¹¹ to bring queen Vashti before the king, with the royal diadem, to show off her loveliness to the peoples and the chief officials, for she was good-looking in appearance. ¹² But queen Vashti refused to come at the king's order that was conveyed by means of the eunuchs. The king was exceedingly wrathful, and his fury blazed up in him. ¹³ So the king asked the wise men who had knowledge of precedents, for this was the royal practice before all those having knowledge of edicts and adjudication. ¹⁴ The ones next to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena and Memucan, seven chief officials of Persia and Media, who were seeing the royal presence and were sitting first in the kingdom. ¹⁵ He asked:``According to the edict, what should be done to queen Vashti because she did not obey king Xerxes' order by means of the eunuchs?'. <sup>16</sup> Memucan then replied before the king and the chief officials:``It was not the king himself alone whom queen Vashti has depraved, but all chief officials and all peoples in all provinces of king Xerxes. ¹⁷ For the affair of the queen shall go forth to all the wives and cause them to despise their spouses in their own eyes when they say, that king Xerxes himself ordered to bring queen Vashti before him, but she did not come. ¹⁸ So this very day the chief ladies of Persia and Media, who have heard of the queen's affair, shall cite it to all the king's chief officials, and there will be sufficient contempt and wrath. ¹⁹ ``If it seems good to the king, a royal decree may go forth from before him, and it may be written into the edicts of Persia and Media so that it can not be revoked, that Vashti must never again enter into the presence of king Xerxes, and that the king shall bestow her royal position upon a mate of her who is better than she. ²⁰ When the king's rescript, that he must execute, is announced in all his kingdom, vast as it is, then all wives shall render esteem to their spouses from the greatest unto the smallest.'. ²¹ The proposal was good in the eyes of the king and the chief officials, and the king did according to Memucan's proposal. ²² He sent letters to all the king's provinces, to each province in its own provincial writing, and to each people in its own popular tongue, so that every man should be in control of his household and speak the tongue of his own people.

¹⁶ And to the woman He says, "Multiplying, yea, multiplying am I your grief and the groaning of your pregnancy. In grief shall you bear sons. "Yet by your husband is your restoration, and he shall rule over you.

²⁰ And coming is it on the third day, the birthday of Pharaoh, that he is making a feast for all his servants. And lifting up is he the head of the chief of the cupbearers, and the head of the chief of the bakers in the midst of his servants.

³⁷ And good is the matter in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants.

³⁴ And lifting up is he helpings, from before him, for them, and much more is Benjamin's helping than all their helpings by five handfuls. And drinking are they with him and are gratified.

¹ The tabernacle you shall make with ten sheets of corded cambric and blue, purple and double-dipped crimson; with cherubim in the handiwork of a designer shall you make them.

³¹ You will make a curtain of blue, purple, double-dipped crimson and corded cambric; in the handiwork of a designer shall you make it with cherubim. ³² You will put it on four columns of acacia overlaid with gold, with their hooks of gold, on four sockets of silver;"

³⁶ You will make a portiere for the portal of the tent of blue, purple, double-dipped crimson and corded cambric, a handiwork of embroidery. ³⁷ You will make for the portiere five columns of acacia, and overlay them with gold, and their hooks with gold; and you will cast for them five sockets of copper.

¹⁹ And it came to be just as he drew near to the camp and saw the calf and the choruses that Moses' anger grew hot, and he flung from his hands the tablets and broke them below the mountain.

²² And Aaron said: The anger of my lord must not grow hot. You know the people that they are unbridled,

¹³ and all the people shall hear and fear, and not act arrogantly again.

²¹ Then all the men of his city will pelt him with stones so that he dies. Thus you will eradicate the evil from among you, and all Israel shall hear and fear.

²⁰ Yahweh shall not be willing to pardon him, because then Yahweh's anger and His jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the imprecation that is written in this scroll will lie on him. Yahweh will wipe out his name from under the heavens;"

²⁹ The wise ones, her princesses, answer her, Yea, she returns her sayings to herself.

²⁵ And it comes to pass, when their heart [is] glad, that they say, `Call for Samson, and he does play before us;' and they call for Samson out of the prison-house, and he plays before them, and they cause him to stand between the pillars.

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, `Yahweh has rent the kingdom of Israel from you to-day, and given it to your neighbor who is better than you;"

³ And the name of the man [is] Nabal, and the name of his wife Abigail, and the woman [is] of good understanding, and of fair form, and the man [is] hard and evil [in] doings; and he [is] a Calebite.

³⁶ And Abigail comes in unto Nabal, and lo, he has a banquet in his house, like a banquet of the king, and the heart of Nabal [is] glad within him, and he [is] drunk unto excess, and she has not declared to him anything, less or more, till the light of the morning. ³⁷ And it comes to pass in the morning, when the wine is gone out from Nabal, that his wife declares to him these things, and his heart dies within him, and he has been as a stone.

¹⁶ and it has come to pass, the ark of Yahweh has come in to the city of David, and Michal daughter of Saul, has looked through the window, and sees king David moving and dancing before Yahweh, and despises him in her heart.

¹ And it comes to pass, when the king sat in his house, and Yahweh has given rest to him round about, from all his enemies,

²⁸ And Absalom commands his young men, saying, `See, I pray you, when the heart of Amnon [is] glad with wine, and I have said unto you, Smite Amnon, that you have put him to death; fear not; is it not because I have commanded you? be strong, yea, become sons of valor..

²⁵ And like Absalom there was no man [so] fair in all Israel, to praise greatly; from the sole of his foot even unto his crown there was no blemish in him;"

⁴⁶ `And also Solomon has sat on the throne of the kingdom,

¹⁵ And Solomon awakes, and lo, a dream; and he comes in to Jerusalem, and stands before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and causes to ascend burnt-offerings, and makes peace-offerings. And he makes a banquet for all his servants,

²⁸ And all Israel hear of the judgment that the king has judged, and fear because of the king, for they have seen that the wisdom of Elohim [is] in his heart, to do judgment.

²¹ And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon [are] of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon [are] of refined gold--there are none of silver; it was not reckoned in the days of Solomon for anything,

³ And he has women, princesses, seven hundred, and concubines three hundred; and his wives turn aside his heart.

¹⁹ and out of the city he has taken a certain eunuch who is appointed over the men of war, and five men of those seeing the king's face who have been found in the city, and the head scribe of the host, who musters the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who are found in the city,

³² And of the sons of Issachar, having understanding for the times, to know what Israel should do; their heads [are] two hundred, and all their brethren [are] at their command.

¹¹ To You, O Yahweh, [is] the greatness, and the might, and the beauty, and the victory, and the honor, because of all in the heavens and in the earth; to You, O Yahweh, [is] the kingdom, and he who is lifting up himself over all for head;" ¹² and the riches, and the honor [are] from before You, and You are ruling over all, and in Your hand [is] power and might, and in Your hand, to make great, and to give strength to all.

²⁵ and Yahweh makes Solomon exceedingly great before the eyes of all Israel, and puts upon him the honor of the kingdom that has not been on any king over Israel before him.

⁸ And solomon makes the feast at that time seven days, and all Israel with him--a very great assembly--from the entering in of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt. ⁹ And they make on the eighth day a restraint, because the dedication of the altar they have made seven days, and the feast seven days.

²⁰ And all the drinking vessels of king Solomon [are] of gold, and all the vessels of the house of the forest of Lebanon [are] of refined gold--silver is not reckoned in the days of Solomon for anything;"

²¹ And the sons of Israel, those found in Jerusalem, make the feast of unleavened things seven days with great joy; and giving praise to Yahweh day by day are the Levites and the priests, with instruments of praise before Yahweh. ²² And Hezekiah speaks unto the heart of all the Levites, those giving good understanding concerning Yahweh, and they eat the appointed thing seven days; sacrificing sacrifices of peace-offerings, and making confession to Yahweh, Elohim of their fathers. ²³ And all the assembly take counsel to keep other seven days, and they keep seven days [with] joy;" ²⁴ for Hezekiah king of Judah has presented to the assembly a thousand bullocks, and seven thousand sheep; and the heads have presented to the assembly bullocks a thousand, and sheep ten thousand; and priests sanctify themselves in abundance. ²⁵ And all the assembly of Judah rejoice, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the assembly, those coming in from Israel, and the sojourners, those coming in from the land of Israel, and those dwelling in Judah,

² Thus speaks Cyrus king of Persia:Yahweh Elohim of the heavens has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and He Himself has committed to me to build for Him a House in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

⁶ And during the reign of Xerxes, at the start of his reign, they wrote an accusation against those dwelling in Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁴ Forasmuch as you are being sent from before the king and his seven counselors to make a quest about Judah and Jerusalem in accord with the edict of your Eloah which is under your hand,

¹ Words of Nehemiah son of Hachaliah. And it comes to pass, in the month of Chisleu, the twentieth year, and I have been in Shushan the palace,

³ May the king look after supervisors in all provinces of his kingdom, and let them convene every maiden virgin, good-looking in appearance, at the castle of Susa at the house of women under the hand of Hegai, the king's eunuch who is in charge of the women; and let them be provided with their beauty-treatments. ⁴ Then let the maiden who is well-pleasing in the king's eyes be queen instead of Vashti.'' The proposal was good in the king's eyes, and he did so.

¹⁷ the king loved Esther more than all the other women. She attained more favor and kindness before him than all the other virgins, so that he placed the royal diadem on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. ¹⁸ Then the king gave a great banquet for all his chief officials and his courtiers,the banquet of Esther; and he granted a rest day for the provinces and distributed helpings according to the means of the king.

⁹ If it seems good to the king, it may be written to destroy them; and for the hands of those doing the work I shall weigh out ten thousand silver talents to bring to the king's depositories.

¹² Then the king's scribes were called in the first month, on the thirteenth day of it. According to all the instructions that Haman had given, it was written to the king's satraps, to the viceroys who were over the different provinces, and to the chief officials of the different peoples, to each province in its own provincial writing, and to each people in its own popular tongue. It was written in the name of king Xerxes and was sealed with the king's ring.

¹⁵ The couriers rode forth posthaste by order of the king, and the edict was promulgated in the castle of Susa. Then the king and Haman sat down to drink, but Susa city was doleful.

¹⁶ Go, collect together all the Jews who are to be found in Susa, and fast on my behalf. Do not eat and do not drink for three days, night and day. I too with my maidens shall fast likewise. In this way I shall come in to the king, even though it is not according to the edict. And if I should perish, I shall perish.

⁴ Esther replied:If it seems good to the king, let the king come today with Haman to the banquet that I have prepared for him.

⁸ If I have found favor in the king's eyes, and if it seems good to the king, to grant my request and to attend to my urgent appeal, let the king come tomorrow with Haman to the banquet that I shall prepare for them; and tomorrow I shall comply with the word of the king.

⁶ When Haman came in, the king asked him:What ought to be done for the man in whose esteem the king has taken a delight? Now Haman said in his heart:To whom but me would the king desire to confer superlative esteem?

⁸ let them bring out royal garment with which the king has clothed himself, and a horse on which the king has ridden, with the royal diadem that has been placed on its head.

⁷ When the king, in his fury, arose from the wine feast to go into the garden of the pavilion, Haman stayed behind to appeal earnestly for his soul from queen Esther, for he saw that there was evil determined against him from the king. ⁸ As the king was returning from the garden of the pavilion to the house of the wine feast, Haman was falling upon the couch on which Esther was. So the king shouted:Will he even molest the queen, with me in the house? As the word had come forth from the king's mouth, they hooded Haman's face.

So the king commanded:Hang him on it!"

⁵ and she said:If it please the king, and if I have found favor before him, and the request seems right before the king, and I am well-pleasing in his eyes, let a decree be written to reverse the letters, the devising of Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, those which he wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king's provinces.

⁸ As for you, write on behalf of the Jews as seems best in your eyes. Write in the king's name and seal it with the king's ring. (For a writing which is written in the king's name and sealed with the king's ring can not be reversed.. ⁹ So the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month, that is, the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day of it. All was written, just as Mordecai instructed them, to the Jews and to the satraps, the viceroys and chief officials of all the provinces, 127 provinces from India unto Nubia, to each province in its provincial writing, and to each people in its popular tongue, and to the Jews in their writing and in their tongue.

¹⁵ As for Mordecai, he went forth from before the king in royal garment of blue and pale, wearing a magnified coronet of gold and a cloak of fine linen and purple wool. And Susa city was noisy with rejoicing.

¹² and the king said to queen Esther:In the castle of Susa alone the Jews have killed and destroyed 500 men and the ten sons of Haman. What have they done in the remainder of the king's provinces? Now what is your request? It shall be granted to you. And what is your other urgent appeal? It shall also be done. ¹³ Esther answered:If it seems good to the king, let it be granted to the Jews in Susa to execute also tomorrow according to the edict for today, and let them hang the ten sons of Haman on the gallows. ¹⁴ So the king ordered it to be done in this way; an edict was issued in Susa, and they hanged the ten sons of Haman. ¹⁵ The Jews in Susa assembled again on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar and killed 300 men in Susa, but they did not lay their hand on the plunder.

³⁰ So letters were sent to all the Jews, to the 127 provinces in Xerxes' kingdom, in words of peace and truth,

¹⁰ Ornament yourself then with pride and loftiness, And with splendor and honor you shall clothe yourself.

⁵ Great is his glory through Your salvation; Splendor and honor shall You poise on him.

³ Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Master, Your splendor and Your honor."

¹ {Contemplating, Asaphic{ Why, O Elohim, have You cast us off permanently? Shall Your anger smolder long against the flock of Your pasture?

¹ {An Asaphic Psalm, A Song{ He Who is known in Judah is Elohim; In Israel His Name is great." ² His covert is in Salem And His habitation in Zion. ³ There He breaks the flaming arrows of the bow, The shield and sword of the battle. {Interlude{ " ⁴ Resplendent are You, More noble than the mountain ranges of prey."

⁵ How long, O Yahweh? Shall You be angry permanently? How long shall Your jealousy consume like a fire?

¹ Yahweh reigns! With augustness is He clothed; Yahweh is clothed with strength; Thus has He belted Himself. Indeed, the habitance is established; It is immovable."

⁵ On the honor glorious of Your splendor And the words of Your marvelous works let me meditate.

¹² To make known His masterful deeds to the sons of humanity, And the glorious honor of His kingdom." ¹³ Your kingdom is a kingdom for all the eons, And Your dominion for every generation after generation. Faithful is Yahweh in all His words, And benign in all His works."

⁹ A man's heart devises his way, Yet Yahweh establishes his steps."

¹² The ire of a king is like the growling of a sheltered lion, Yet his benevolence is like night mist on herbage."

¹ Wine is a mocker; an intoxicant is a discomfiter; And anyone led into error by it is not wise. ² Dread inspired by a king is a growling like that of a sheltered lion; He who enrages him sins against his own soul.

²⁹ Who has woe? who has uneasiness? who has quarrels? Who has deep concerns? who has gratuitous injuries? Who has bloodshot eyes? ³⁰ They have who delay over wine, Who come to investigate a blend." ³¹ Do not stare at wine when it is red, When it casts its sparkle in the cup and goes down evenly." ³² Its aftereffect shall bite like a serpent And spread pain like a yellow viper. ³³ Your eyes shall see strange things, And your heart shall speak wayward thoughts."

³⁰ Grace may be false and loveliness vain, But the woman fearful of Yahweh, she shall be praised."

² It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting In that it is the terminus of every man, Thus let the living lay this on his heart." ³ Better is vexation than mirth, For with evil on the countenance the heart may be made better." ⁴ The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning, And the heart of the stupid in the house of rejoicing."

¹⁹ The making of bread is for mirth, And wine gives rejoicing to life, While silver answers for everything."

¹ Woe, Land of a craft with wings, which have a passage to the streams of Ethiopia,

² a hard vision is told to me; the treacherous one is treacherous, and the devastator is devastating. Against me is Elam! And against me the agents of Media are coming! Now all sighing through it I cause to cease."

⁹ And hearing is the king of Assyria concerning Tirhakah, king of Ethiopia, saying, "He fares forth to fight you.When hearing this, he returns, and is sending messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

² And Hezekiah is rejoicing over them with great joy. And he is showing them all his perfumery house, the silver, and the gold, and the aromatics, and the good oil, and all the house with his instruments in the depository, and all that is found among his treasures. Not a thing comes to be there which Hezekiah does not show them, in his house and in all under his rule."

⁷ Who does not fear You, king of the nations? For to You it is becoming, For among all the wise of the nations, And in all their kingdom there is none like You."

⁸ `And we hearken to the voice of Jonadab son of Rechab, our father, to all that he commanded us, not to drink wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, and our daughters;"

⁷ A golden cup [is] Babylon in the hand of Yahweh, Making drunk all the earth, Of its wine drunk have nations, Therefore boast themselves do nations."

¹¹ Cleanse you the arrows, fill the shields, Stirred up has Yahweh the spirit of the kings of Madia, For against Babylon His device [is] to destroy it, For the vengeance of Yahweh it [is], The vengeance of His temple."

⁴¹ And you have sat on a couch of honor, And a table arrayed before it, And My perfume and My oil placed on it."

⁵ By the abundance of your wisdom, Through your merchandise, You have multiplied your wealth, And high is your heart through your wealth."

³ Speaking is the king to Ashpenaz, the grandee of his eunuchs, to bring of the sons of the grandees of Israel, and of the seed royal, and of the highborn;" ⁴ boys in whom there is no blemish at all, who are of good appearance. Those intelligent in all wisdom, and knowing knowledge, and understanding what is known, and who have vigor in them to stand in the palace before the king, he is to teach them the script and language of the Chaldeans." ⁵ Assigning is the king to them the day's menu in its day, from the dainties of the king, and from the wine of the king's feasts. They are to grow up three years, and at their end they are to stand before the king."

¹⁸ And at the end of the days the king says to bring them in. Then the chief of the eunuchs is bringing them before Nebuchadnezzar. ¹⁹ Speaking is the king with them, and of them all, none is found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. Henceforth they are standing before the king;"

² Saying is the king to call the sacred scribes and the magi and the enchanters and the Chaldeans to tell the king his dreams. Then they are coming and standing before the king.

¹² Wherefore the king is angry and has great wrath, and says to destroy all the wise men of Babylon."

²⁷ Answering is Daniel before the king and saying, "The secret which the king is asking, not the wise men, the magi, the sacred scribes, nor the hieromancers can disclose to the king."

³⁷ You, O king, are king of kings, seeing that the Eloah of the heavens grants a safeguarded kingdom to you, and might and honor and esteem." ³⁸ In every place where the sons of mortals are abiding, the animal of the field, the flyer of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, He grants into your hand. He gives you authority over them all. You are the head that is gold." ³⁹ In your place shall arise another kingdom of the earth, inferior to you, that is silver; and another kingdom, the third, that is copper, shall have authority in all the earth." ⁴⁰ The fourth kingdom shall be mighty as iron, forasmuch as iron is pulverizing and overcoming all. As iron that smashes, all these shall it pulverize and smash." ⁴¹ Seeing that you perceived the feet and toes, part of them of potter's clay, and part of them of iron:The kingdom shall be composite. And the stability of iron will be in it, forasmuch as you perceived the iron mixed with the muddy clay." ⁴² And the toes of the feet, part of them of iron and part of them of clay:at the end, the kingdom shall be mighty, yet part of it shall be frail." ⁴³ Seeing that you perceived the iron mixed with muddy clay:Thus mixing with wealth is the armed force of the mortal. Yet with wealth it is not clinging, this one with that one, even as iron mixes not with clay." ⁴⁴ In their days, that is, of these kings, the Eloah of the heavens will set up a kingdom that for the eons shall not come to harm. His kingdom shall not be left to another people. It will pulverize and terminate all these kingdoms, and it shall be confirmed for the eons."

² Then Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the kings and rulers of the whole habitance, sends to assemble all the nations and leagues and language-groups:The satraps, the prefects, and the viceroys, the noble hieromancers, the governors, the magistrates, the jurists, and all the authorities of the provinces, to arrive for the dedication of the image that is set up by Nebuchadnezzar the king." ³ Then assembling are the satraps, the prefects, and the viceroys, the noble hieromancers, the governors, the magistrates, the jurists, and all the authorities of the provinces, for the dedication of the image that is set up by Nebuchadnezzar the king. And those registered are rising to receive the image that is set up by Nebuchadnezzar."

¹³ Then Nebuchadnezzar, disturbed and furious, says to bring hither Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then these Jewish masters are brought hither before the king."

¹⁹ Then Nebuchadnezzar is full of fury, and the mien of his visage alters against Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. He is answering and saying to heat the furnace seven units over what he perceives it to be already heated."

²⁹ Now from me shall be promulgated a decree that, in every people, league, and language-group, whoever is saying aught carelessly against their Eloah--that of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego--shall be dismembered and his house shall be the equivalent of a confiscation, forasmuch as there is actually not another Eloah Who can rescue as this One."

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all peoples, leagues and language-groups that are abiding in the entire earth:Your welfare be growing great!"

⁴ I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at ease in my house, and flourishing in my palace."

⁶ Then from me a decree was promulgated to bring in before me all the wise men of Babylon, that the interpretation of the dream they shall make known to me." ⁷ Then went in the sacred scribes, the magi, the Chaldeans and the hieromancers, and I am stating the dream before them, yet its interpretation they did not make known to me."

³⁰ Responding is the king to all this by saying, "Is not this Babylon great that I have built to be the house of the kingdom within the might of my safeguarding walls, for the esteem of my honor!"

³⁶ In the stated time my knowledge is returning to me:For the esteem of my kingdom, my honor and my aspect is returning to me. And to me my retinue and my grandees are petitioning, and over my kingdom I am set in due order, and excellent majesty was added to me."

¹ Belshazzar the king makes a grand dinner for a thousand of his grandees and is drinking turbid wine in view of the thousand. ² When tasting the turbid wine, Belshazzar says to bring hither the gold and silver vessels of the house of Eloah which his grandfather Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, that they may drink from them--the king and his grandees, his consorts and his concubines." ³ Then they bring hither the gold and silver vessels which they had taken from the temple, the house of the Eloah in Jerusalem. And they drink from them--the king and his grandees, his consorts and his concubines." ⁴ They drink the turbid wine and laud the elohim of gold, silver, copper, iron, wood, and stone."

⁷ Calling is the king with potency to bring in the magi, the sacred scribes, the Chaldeans, and the hieromancers. Responding is the king and saying to the wise men of Babylon that, "Any mortal who will read this writing and disclose its interpretation to me shall be clothed in purple, with a circlet of gold about his neck, and as the third one in the kingdom shall he have authority."

¹⁸ You, O king! The Supreme Eloah granted the kingdom and majesty and esteem and honor to Nebuchadnezzar your grandfather."

²⁸ PHURS, bisected is your kingdom and it will be granted to the Medes and Persians."

¹ Seemly is it before Darius to set up over the kingdom a hundred and twenty-seven satraps who shall be in all the kingdom.

Now the windows were opened for him in his upper chamber toward Jerusalem. Thus at stated times, thrice in the day, is he kneeling on his knees and praying and acclaiming before his Eloah just as formerly--this he is doing." ¹¹ Then these masters foregather and find Daniel petitioning and supplicating before his Eloah. ¹² Then they draw near and are speaking before the king concerning the king's interdict, "Did you not sign an interdict that every mortal who is petitioning from anyone--whether eloah or mortal--for thirty days, except only from you, O king, shall be heaved into the vault of the lions?Answering is the king and saying, "Certain is the matter as an edict of the Medes and Persians which shall not pass away." ¹³ Then they respond and are saying before the king, "Daniel, who is of the sons of the deportation of Judah, does not promulgate for you, O king, the decree, the interdict that you signed:At stated times, thrice in the day, he is petitioning his petitions before his Eloah." ¹⁴ Then the king, when he hears the matter, is enormously in bad odor to himself. As to Daniel he sets his heart to deliver him; thus till sunset he is exerting himself to rescue him." ¹⁵ Then these masters foregather with the king and are saying to the king, "Know, O king, that the edict for the Medes and Persians is that every interdict or statute that the king shall set up is not to be altered."

¹⁷ And hither is brought a single stone and placed on the mouth of the vault. The king seals it with his signet ring and with the signet rings of his grandees, that there be no altering of his will in regard to Daniel."

⁹ Perceiving am I till thrones were placed, and the Transferrer of Days sits:His clothing is pale as snow, and the hair of His head as immaculate wool; His throne is as flaring flame, its rollers a flashing flame." ¹⁰ Streaming is a flame in front and issuing from before Him; a thousand thousands are irradiating Him, and ten thousand ten thousands are rising before Him. Adjudication sits and the scrolls are opened." ¹¹ Perceiving am I then--because of the sound of the monstrous matters that the horn is declaring--perceiving am I till the animal is despatched, destroyed is her frame and granted to the glowing fire." ¹² And the remainder of the animals--their authority is caused to pass away, yet a lengthening of life is granted to them till the stated time and season." ¹³ Perceiving am I in the visions of the night, and behold, on the clouds of the heavens, One as a son of a mortal is arriving:Unto the Transferrer of Days He reaches, and they bring Him near before Him;" ¹⁴ to Him is granted jurisdiction and esteem and a kingdom, and all the peoples and leagues and language-groups shall serve Him; His jurisdiction, as an eonian jurisdiction, will not pass away, and His kingdom shall not be confined."

¹⁵ Woe to him giving his associate drink, adjoining your fury, and, indeed, making him drunk that he may look on their nakedness." ¹⁶ You are satisfied with dishonor rather than glory; you, moreover, drink and be uncircumcised. The cup of Yahweh's right hand shall go around to you, and ignominy is added to your glory."

¹ Now, at Jesus' being born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, lo! magi from the East came along into Jerusalem,

⁸ And the lord applauds the unjust administrator, for he does prudently, for the sons of this eon are more prudent, above the sons of light in their own generation."

⁸ And He is saying to them, "Draw now and bring to the chief of the dining room.Now they bring it."

⁵ Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem, Jews, pious men from every nation under heaven." ⁶ Now when this sound occurs, the multitude came together and was confused, for each one hears them speaking in his own vernacular." ⁷ Now they are all amazed, and marveled, saying, "Lo! are not all these who are speaking, Galileans? ⁸ And how are we hearing, each in our own vernacular in which we were born? ⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea, as well as Cappadocia, Pontus, and the province of Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and the repatriated Romans, both Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretans and Arabs - we are hearing them speaking in these languages of ours of the great things of God!"

¹⁴ Now Paul being about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If, indeed, it were some injury or wicked knavery, O Jews, I might, on that account tolerate you."

²³ it is that He should also be making known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He makes ready before for glory -"

⁷ Already, indeed, then, it is absolutely a discomfiture for you that you are having lawsuits among yourselves. Wherefore are you not rather being injured? Wherefore are you not rather being cheated? ⁸ But you are injuring and cheating, and this to brethren!"

¹⁶ For not by following wisely made myths do we make known to you the power and presence of our Lord, Jesus Christ, but by becoming spectators of His magnificence." ¹⁷ For He got from God, the Father, the honor and glory of the voice, being carried to Him in such a way by the Glory Magnifical: "This is My Son, the Beloved, in Whom I delight!"

⁴ And they shall be seeing His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads."
