¹ Let as many as are slaves under a yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and His doctrine may not be blasphemed.

⁷ And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram's cattle, and the herdsmen of Lot's cattle, and the Canaanites and the Perizzites then inhabited the land. ⁸ And Abram said to Lot, Let there not be strife between me and you, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers.

⁹ And the Angel of the Lord said to her, Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.

² And Abraham said to his servant the elder of his house, who had rule over all his possessions, Put your hand under my thigh,

¹² And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, prosper my way before me today, and deal mercifully with my master Abraham.

²⁷ and said, Blessed be the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not allowed His righteousness to fail, nor His truth from my master, and the Lord has brought me prosperously to the house of the brother of my lord.

³⁵ and the Lord has blessed my master greatly, and he has become great; and He has given him sheep, calves, silver, gold, male and female servants, camels, and donkeys. ³⁶ And Sarah my master's wife bore one son to my master after he had grown old; and he gave him whatever he had. ³⁷ And my master caused me to swear, saying, You shall not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I sojourn in their land. ³⁸ But you shall go to the house of my father, and to my tribe, and you shall take from there a wife for my son. ³⁹ And I said to my master, Perhaps the woman will not happily go with me. ⁴⁰ And he said to me, The Lord God Himself, to whom I have been acceptable in His presence, shall send out His angel with you, and shall prosper your journey, and you shall take a wife for my son of my tribe, and of the house of my father. ⁴¹ Then shall you be clear from my oath, for whenever you have come to my tribe, and they shall not give her to you, then shall you be clear from my oath. ⁴² And having come this day to the well, I said, Lord God of my master Abraham, if You prosper my journey on which I am now going, ⁴³ behold, I stand by the well of water, and the daughters of the men of the city come forth to draw water, and it shall be that the woman to whom I shall say, Give me a little water to drink out of your pitcher, ⁴⁴ and she shall say to me, Drink, and I will draw water for your camels, also; this shall be the wife whom the Lord has prepared for His own servant Isaac; and hereby shall I know that You have shown mercy to my master Abraham. ⁴⁵ And it came to pass before I had done speaking in my mind, that Rebecca came forth, having her pitcher on her shoulders; and she went down to the well, and drew water; and I said to her, Give me a drink. ⁴⁶ And she quickly let down her pitcher on her arm from her head, and said, Drink, and I will give your camels a drink, also; and I drank, and she gave the camels a drink. ⁴⁷ And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter are you? Tell me; and she said, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him; and I put on her the earrings, and the bracelets on her hands. ⁴⁸ And being well-pleased, I worshipped the Lord, and I blessed the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has prospered me in a true way, so that I should take the daughter of my master's brother for his son. ⁴⁹ If then you will deal mercifully and justly with my lord, tell me, and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left. ⁵⁰ And Laban and Bethuel answered and said, This matter has come forth from the Lord, we shall not be able to answer you bad or good. ⁵¹ Behold, Rebecca is before you, take her and go away, and let her be the wife to the son of your master, as the Lord has said. ⁵² And it came to pass when the servant of Abraham heard these words, he worshipped the Lord, bowing down to the earth. ⁵³ And the servant, having brought forth jewels of silver and gold and raiment, gave them to Rebecca, and gave gifts to her brother, and to her mother. ⁵⁴ And both he and the men with him ate and drank and went to sleep. And he arose in the morning and said, Send me away, that I may go to my master. ⁵⁵ And her brothers and her mother said, Let the virgin remain with us about ten days, and after that she shall depart. ⁵⁶ But he said to them, Hinder me not, for the Lord has prospered my journey for me; send me away, that I may depart to my master. ⁵⁷ And they said, Let us call the woman, and ask her personally. ⁵⁸ And they called Rebecca, and said to her, Will you go with this man? And she said, I will go. ⁵⁹ So they sent forth Rebecca their sister, and her goods, and the servant of Abraham, and his attendants. ⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebecca, and said to her, You are our sister; may you become the mother of thousands and thousands, and let your seed possess the cities of their enemies. ⁶¹ And Rebecca rose up and her maidens, and they mounted the camels and went with the man. And the servant, having taken up Rebecca, departed. ⁶² And Isaac went through the wilderness to the Well of the Vision, and he dwelt in the land toward the south. ⁶³ And Isaac went forth into the plain toward evening to meditate; and having lifted up his eyes, he saw camels coming. ⁶⁴ And Rebecca lifted up her eyes, and saw Isaac; and she dismounted briskly from the camel, ⁶⁵ and said to the servant, Who is that man that walks in the plain to meet us? And the servant said, This is my master; and she took her veil and covered herself. ⁶⁶ And the servant told Isaac all that he had done. ⁶⁷ And Isaac went into the house of his mother, and took Rebecca, and she became his wife, and he loved her; and Isaac was comforted over Sarah his mother.

⁴⁸ And you shall serve your enemies, which the Lord will send forth against you, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in the desire of all things; and you shall wear upon your neck a yoke of iron until He has destroyed you.

¹⁴ Only because you have given great occasion of provocation to the enemies of the Lord by this thing, your son also that is born to you shall surely die.

² And the Syrians went forth in small bands, and took captive out of the land of Israel a young girl; and she waited on Naaman's wife. ³ And she said to her mistress, O that my lord were before the prophet of God in Samaria; then he would heal him from his leprosy.

¹³ And his servants came near and said to him, Suppose the prophet had spoken a great thing to you, would you not perform it? Yet he has but said to you, Wash, and be cleansed.

⁵ And the Levites, Jeshua and Kadmiel, said, Rise up, bless the Lord our God forever and ever; and let them bless Your glorious name, and exalt it with all blessing and praise.

⁶ I have been provoked with My people; you have defiled My inheritance; I gave them into your hand, but you did not extend mercy to them; you made the yoke of the aged man very heavy,

⁵ And now why are you here? Thus says the Lord: Because My people were taken for nothing, wonder and howl. Thus says the Lord: On account of you My name is continually blasphemed among the Gentiles.

⁶ I have not chosen such a fast, says the Lord; but do you loose every burden of iniquity, do you untie the knots of hard bargains, set the bruised free, and cancel every unjust account?

²⁰ And they went in among the nations, among which they went, and they profaned My holy name, while it was said of them, These are the people of the Lord, and they came forth out of His land.

²³ And I will sanctify My great name, which was profaned among the nations, which you profaned in the midst of them; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord, when I am sanctified among you before their eyes.

⁶ A son honors his father, and a servant his master: if then I am a Father, where is My honor? And if I am a Master, where is My fear? Says the Lord Almighty. You the priests are they that despise My name: yet you said, In what way have we despised Your name?

⁹ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and far more than a prophet.

³⁰ For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

¹ Then He said to the disciples, "It is impossible for offenses not to come, but woe to the one through whom they do come!

⁷ Now when the angel who had been speaking to Cornelius had departed, he called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually.

²² And they said, "Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and fearing God, having a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was given a revelation by a holy angel to send for you to his house, and to hear words from you."

¹⁰ Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

²⁴ For "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you," just as it is written.

²¹ Were you called as a slave? Do not be concerned about it; but if you can be made free, rather make use of it. ²² For he who is called in the Lord while a slave is the Lord's free man. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ's slave.

³² Be without offense, both toward Jews and toward Greeks, and toward the church of God,

¹ Stand fast therefore in the freedom in which Christ has made us free, and do not be loaded down again with a yoke of bondage.

⁵ Slaves, obey your masters according to the flesh with fear and trembling, in simplicity of heart, as to Christ; ⁶ not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God wholeheartedly, ⁷ with good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men, ⁸ knowing that whatever good thing anyone does, the same he shall receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free.

²² Bondservants, obey your masters according to the flesh in all things, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. ²³ And whatever you may do, work it from your soul, as to the Lord and not to men, ²⁴ knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. For you serve the Lord Christ. ²⁵ But the one doing wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is not partiality.

¹⁴ Therefore I desire that the younger widows to marry, to bear children, to manage the house, to give no opportunity to the adversary because of reproach.

⁵ temperate, pure, homemakers, good, submitting to their own husbands, lest the word of God be blasphemed.

⁸ sound speech that cannot be condemned, in order that the one who is an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us. ⁹ Exhort bondservants to be subject to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not talking back, ¹⁰ not embezzling, but showing good faith, so that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

¹² having your manner of life noble among the Gentiles, so that, whenever they speak against you as evildoers, when they observe the good works, they may glorify God in the day of visitation.

¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. ¹⁸ Servants, subject yourselves to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the crooked. ¹⁹ For this is admirable, if because of conscience toward God someone endures pain, suffering unjustly. ²⁰ For what glory is it, if when you sin and are beaten, you endure? But if when you do good and suffer for it, you endure, this is admirable before God.

¹⁶ having a good conscience, so that in what they speak against you as evildoers, those reviling your good conduct in Christ may be put to shame.
