⁴³ ἐκεῖνο (This) δὲ (then) γινώσκετε (know), ὅτι (that) εἰ (if) ᾔδει (had known) ὁ (the) οἰκοδεσπότης (master of the house) ποίᾳ (in what) φυλακῇ (time of night) ὁ (the) κλέπτης (thief) ἔρχεται (comes), ἐγρηγόρησεν (he would have watched) ἂν (-) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἂν (-) εἴασεν (have allowed) διορυχθῆναι (to be broken into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) αὐτοῦ (of him).

¹¹ Λαβόντες (Having received), δὲ (now) ἐγόγγυζον (they were grumbling) κατὰ (against) τοῦ (the) οἰκοδεσπότου (master of the house),

⁴⁴ διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) καὶ (also), ὑμεῖς (you) γίνεσθε (be) ἕτοιμοι (ready), ὅτι (for) ᾗ (in that) οὐ (not) δοκεῖτε (you expect) ὥρᾳ (hour), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἔρχεται (comes).

³⁹ Τοῦτο (This) δὲ (however) γινώσκετε (know), ὅτι (that) εἰ (if) ᾔδει (had known) ὁ (the) οἰκοδεσπότης (master of the house) ποίᾳ (in what) ὥρᾳ (hour) ὁ (the) κλέπτης (thief) ἔρχεται (is coming), οὐκ (not) ἂν (-) ἀφῆκεν (he would have allowed) διορυχθῆναι (to be broken into) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) αὐτοῦ (of him).

² αὐτοὶ (Yourselves) γὰρ (for) ἀκριβῶς (fully) οἴδατε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord), ὡς (as) κλέπτης (a thief) ἐν (by) νυκτὶ (night), οὕτως (in this manner) ἔρχεται (comes). ³ ὅταν (For when) λέγωσιν (they might say), “Εἰρήνη (Peace) καὶ (and) ἀσφάλεια (security),” τότε (then) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) αὐτοῖς (upon them) ἐφίσταται* (comes) ὄλεθρος (destruction), ὥσπερ (as) ἡ (the) ὠδὶν (labor pains) τῇ (to her) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἐχούσῃ (having); καὶ (and) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐκφύγωσιν (shall they escape). ⁴ Ὑμεῖς (You) δέ (however), ἀδελφοί (brothers), οὐκ (not) ἐστὲ (are) ἐν (in) σκότει (darkness), ἵνα (that) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) ὑμᾶς (you) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief) καταλάβῃ (should overtake). ⁵ πάντες (All) γὰρ (for) ὑμεῖς (you), υἱοὶ (sons) φωτός (of light) ἐστε (are), καὶ (and) υἱοὶ (sons) ἡμέρας (of day). Οὐκ (Not) ἐσμὲν (we are) νυκτὸς (of night) οὐδὲ (nor) σκότους (of darkness). ⁶ ἄρα (So) οὖν (then) μὴ (not) καθεύδωμεν (we should sleep) ὡς (as) οἱ (the) λοιποί (others), ἀλλὰ (but) γρηγορῶμεν (we should watch) καὶ (and) νήφωμεν (we should be sober).

¹⁰ Ἥξει (Will come) δὲ (however) ἡμέρα (the day) Κυρίου (of the Lord) ὡς (like) κλέπτης (a thief), ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) οἱ (the) οὐρανοὶ (heavens) ῥοιζηδὸν (with a roar) παρελεύσονται (will pass away), στοιχεῖα (elements) δὲ (then) καυσούμενα (burning with heat) λυθήσεται (will be dissolved), καὶ (and) γῆ (the earth) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) ἔργα (works) [οὐχ] (not) εὑρεθήσεται (will be found). ¹¹ Τούτων (These things) οὕτως (in this way) πάντων (all) λυομένων (being dissolved), ποταποὺς (what kind) δεῖ (ought) ὑπάρχειν (to be) ὑμᾶς (you)? ἐν (In) ἁγίαις (holy) ἀναστροφαῖς (conduct) καὶ (and) εὐσεβείαις (godliness),
