¹ Καὶ (And) ἐξελθὼν (having gone forth) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) ἱεροῦ (temple), ἐπορεύετο (He was going away), καὶ (and) προσῆλθον (came to Him) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπιδεῖξαι (to point out) αὐτῷ (to Him) τὰς (the) οἰκοδομὰς (buildings) τοῦ (of the) ἱεροῦ (temple).

²³ Καὶ (And) ἐλθόντος (having come) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple), προσῆλθον (came) αὐτῷ (to Him) διδάσκοντι (teaching), οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders) τοῦ (of the) λαοῦ (people), λέγοντες (saying), “Ἐν (By) ποίᾳ (what) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority) ταῦτα (these things) ποιεῖς (are You doing)? καὶ (And) τίς (who) σοι (to You) ἔδωκεν (gave) τὴν (the) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ταύτην (this)?”

³⁹ λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you), οὐ (no) μή (not) με (Me) ἴδητε (shall you see) ἀπ’ (from) ἄρτι (now) ἕως (until) ἂν (-) εἴπητε (you say), ‘Εὐλογημένος (Blessed is) ὁ (the One) ἐρχόμενος (coming) ἐν (in the) ὀνόματι (name) Κυρίου (of the Lord).’”

¹ Καὶ (And) ἐκπορευομένου (going forth) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) ἱεροῦ (temple), λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him) εἷς (one) τῶν (of the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), ἴδε (behold) ποταποὶ (what) λίθοι (stones) καὶ (and) ποταπαὶ (what) οἰκοδομαί (buildings)!” ² Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Βλέπεις (See you) ταύτας (these) τὰς (-) μεγάλας (great) οἰκοδομάς (buildings)? καὶ (And) τί (what will be) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) ὅταν (when) μέλλῃ (are going) ταῦτα (these things) συντελεῖσθαι (to be accomplished) πάντα (all)?” ⁵ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἤρξατο (began) λέγειν (to say) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Βλέπετε (Take heed), μή (lest) τις (anyone) ὑμᾶς (you) πλανήσῃ (mislead). ⁶ πολλοὶ (Many) ἐλεύσονται (will come) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), λέγοντες (saying) ὅτι (-), ‘Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He),’ καὶ (and) πολλοὺς (many) πλανήσουσιν (they will mislead). ⁷ ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἀκούσητε (you shall hear of) πολέμους (wars) καὶ (and) ἀκοὰς (rumors) πολέμων (of wars), μὴ (not) θροεῖσθε (be disturbed); δεῖ (it must) γενέσθαι (come to pass), ἀλλ’ (but) οὔπω (not yet is) τὸ (the) τέλος (end). ⁸ ἐγερθήσεται (Will rise up) γὰρ (for) ἔθνος (nation) ἐπ’ (against) ἔθνος (nation), καὶ (and) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἐπὶ (against) βασιλείαν (kingdom). ἔσονται (There will be) σεισμοὶ (earthquakes) κατὰ (throughout) τόπους (places); ἔσονται (there will be) λιμοί (famines). ἀρχὴ (The beginning) ὠδίνων (of birth pains are) ταῦτα (these). ⁹ Βλέπετε (Take heed) δὲ (however) ὑμεῖς (you) ἑαυτούς (to yourselves); παραδώσουσιν (they will betray) ὑμᾶς (you) εἰς (to) συνέδρια (courts) καὶ (and) εἰς (in) συναγωγὰς (synagogues); δαρήσεσθε (you will be beaten), καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (before) ἡγεμόνων (governors) καὶ (and) βασιλέων (kings) σταθήσεσθε (you will stand) ἕνεκεν (because) ἐμοῦ (of Me), εἰς (for) μαρτύριον (a testimony) αὐτοῖς (to them). ¹⁰ καὶ (And) εἰς (to) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) ἔθνη (nations) πρῶτον (first) δεῖ (it behooves) κηρυχθῆναι (to proclaim) τὸ (the) εὐαγγέλιον (gospel). ¹¹ καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) ἄγωσιν (they might lead away) ὑμᾶς (you), παραδιδόντες (delivering you up), μὴ (not) προμεριμνᾶτε (be anxious beforehand) τί (what) λαλήσητε (you should say), ἀλλ’ (but) ὃ (whatever) ἐὰν (if) δοθῇ (might be given) ὑμῖν (to you), ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ὥρᾳ (hour), τοῦτο (that) λαλεῖτε (speak); οὐ (not) γάρ (for) ἐστε (are) ὑμεῖς (you) οἱ (those) λαλοῦντες (speaking), ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) τὸ (-) Ἅγιον (Holy). ¹² Καὶ (And) παραδώσει (will deliver up) ἀδελφὸς (brother), ἀδελφὸν (brother) εἰς (to) θάνατον (death), καὶ (and) πατὴρ (father), τέκνον (child); καὶ (and) ἐπαναστήσονται (will rise up) τέκνα (children) ἐπὶ (against) γονεῖς (parents), καὶ (and) θανατώσουσιν (will put to death) αὐτούς (them). ¹³ καὶ (And) ἔσεσθε (you will be) μισούμενοι (hated) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all) διὰ (on account of) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ὑπομείνας (having endured) εἰς (to) τέλος (the end), οὗτος (he) σωθήσεται (will be saved). ¹⁴ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἴδητε (you see) τὸ (the) βδέλυγμα (abomination) τῆς (of the) ἐρημώσεως (desolation) ἑστηκότα (standing) ὅπου (where) οὐ (not) δεῖ (it should)— ὁ (the one) ἀναγινώσκων (reading), νοείτω (let him understand)— τότε (then) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), φευγέτωσαν (let them flee) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ὄρη (mountains), ¹⁵ ὁ (the one) [δὲ] (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τοῦ (the) δώματος (housetop), μὴ (not) καταβάτω (let him come down), μηδὲ (nor) εἰσελθάτω (go in) τι (anything) ἆραι (to take) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) οἰκίας (house) αὐτοῦ (of him); ¹⁶ καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) εἰς (in) τὸν (the) ἀγρὸν (field), μὴ (not) ἐπιστρεψάτω (let him return) εἰς (to) τὰ (the things) ὀπίσω (behind), ἆραι (to take) τὸ (the) ἱμάτιον (clothing) αὐτοῦ (of him). ¹⁷ Οὐαὶ (Woe) δὲ (then) ταῖς (to those) ἐν (in) γαστρὶ (womb) ἐχούσαις (having), καὶ (and) ταῖς (to the ones) θηλαζούσαις (nursing infants) ἐν (in) ἐκείναις (those) ταῖς (-) ἡμέραις (days)! ¹⁸ προσεύχεσθε (Pray) δὲ (then) ἵνα (that it) μὴ (not) γένηται (might be) χειμῶνος (in winter); ¹⁹ ἔσονται (will be in) γὰρ (for) αἱ (the) ἡμέραι (days) ἐκεῖναι (those) θλῖψις (tribulation), οἵα (such as) οὐ (never) γέγονεν (has been) τοιαύτη (the like), ἀπ’ (from the) ἀρχῆς (beginning) κτίσεως (of creation), ἣν (which) ἔκτισεν (created) ὁ (-) Θεὸς (God), ἕως (until) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now)— καὶ (and) οὐ (never) μὴ (not) γένηται (shall be). ²⁰ καὶ (And) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἐκολόβωσεν (had shortened) Κύριος (the Lord) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days), οὐκ (no) ἂν (-) ἐσώθη (there would have been saved) πᾶσα (any) σάρξ (flesh); ἀλλὰ (but) διὰ (on account of) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτοὺς (elect) οὓς (whom) ἐξελέξατο (He chose), ἐκολόβωσεν (He has shortened) τὰς (the) ἡμέρας (days). ²¹ Καὶ (And) τότε (then) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ὑμῖν (to you) εἴπῃ (says), ‘Ἴδε (Behold), ὧδε (here is) ὁ (the) Χριστός (Christ)! Ἴδε (Behold), ἐκεῖ (there)!’ μὴ (not) πιστεύετε (you shall believe it). ²² ἐγερθήσονται (There will arise) γὰρ* (for) ψευδόχριστοι (false Christs) καὶ (and) ψευδοπροφῆται (false prophets), καὶ (and) δώσουσιν* (will give) σημεῖα (signs) καὶ (and) τέρατα (wonders), πρὸς (so as) τὸ (-) ἀποπλανᾶν (to deceive) εἰ (if) δυνατὸν (possible), τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτούς (elect). ²³ ὑμεῖς (You) δὲ (however) βλέπετε (take heed); προείρηκα (I have foretold) ὑμῖν (to you) πάντα (all things). ²⁴ Ἀλλὰ (But) ἐν (in) ἐκείναις (those) ταῖς (-) ἡμέραις (days), μετὰ (after) τὴν (the) θλῖψιν (tribulation) ἐκείνην (those), ‘Ὁ (The) ἥλιος (sun) σκοτισθήσεται (will be darkened), Καὶ (and) ἡ (the) σελήνη (moon) οὐ (not) δώσει (will give) τὸ (the) φέγγος (light) αὐτῆς (of it); ²⁵ Καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀστέρες (stars) ἔσονται (will be) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) πίπτοντες (falling), Καὶ (and) αἱ (the) δυνάμεις (powers) αἱ (that are) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens) σαλευθήσονται (will be shaken).’ ²⁶ Καὶ (And) τότε (then) ὄψονται (will they see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) νεφέλαις (the clouds), μετὰ (with) δυνάμεως (power) πολλῆς (great) καὶ (and) δόξης (glory). ²⁷ καὶ (And) τότε (then) ἀποστελεῖ (He will send) τοὺς (the) ἀγγέλους (angels), καὶ (and) ἐπισυνάξει (will gather together) τοὺς (the) ἐκλεκτοὺς (elect) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) τεσσάρων (four) ἀνέμων (winds), ἀπ’ (from the) ἄκρου (end) γῆς (of earth) ἕως (to the) ἄκρου (end) οὐρανοῦ (of heaven). ²⁸ Ἀπὸ (Of) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) συκῆς (fig tree), μάθετε (learn) τὴν (the) παραβολήν (parable): ὅταν (When) ἤδη (already) ὁ (the) κλάδος (branch) αὐτῆς (of it) ἁπαλὸς (tender) γένηται (has become), καὶ (and) ἐκφύῃ (it puts forth) τὰ (the) φύλλα (leaves), γινώσκετε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἐγγὺς (near) τὸ (the) θέρος (summer) ἐστίν (is). ²⁹ οὕτως (So) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you), ὅταν (when) ἴδητε (you see) ταῦτα (these things) γινόμενα (coming to pass), γινώσκετε (know) ὅτι (that) ἐγγύς (near) ἐστιν (He is), ἐπὶ (at the) θύραις (doors). ³⁰ ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) παρέλθῃ (will have passed away) ἡ (the) γενεὰ (generation) αὕτη (this) μέχρις (until) οὗ (that) ταῦτα (these things) πάντα (all) γένηται (shall have taken place). ³¹ ὁ (The) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) παρελεύσονται (will pass away), οἱ (-) δὲ (but) λόγοι (the words) μου (of Me) οὐ (in no way) ‹μὴ› (not) παρελεύσονται (will pass away). ³² Περὶ (Concerning) δὲ (now) τῆς (the) ἡμέρας (day) ἐκείνης (that), ἢ (or) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour), οὐδεὶς (no one) οἶδεν (knows); οὐδὲ (not even) οἱ (the) ἄγγελοι (angels) ἐν (in) οὐρανῷ (heaven), οὐδὲ (nor) ὁ (the) Υἱός (Son), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father). ³³ Βλέπετε (Take heed); ἀγρυπνεῖτε (watch); οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (you know) γὰρ (for) πότε (when) ὁ (the) καιρός (time) ἐστιν (is). ³⁴ Ὡς (It is like) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἀπόδημος (going on a journey), ἀφεὶς (having left) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) αὐτοῦ (of him), καὶ (and) δοὺς (having given) τοῖς (the) δούλοις (servants) αὐτοῦ (of him) τὴν (-) ἐξουσίαν (authority), ἑκάστῳ (to each one) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) αὐτοῦ (of him). καὶ (And) τῷ (the) θυρωρῷ (doorkeeper) ἐνετείλατο (he commanded) ἵνα (that) γρηγορῇ (he should keep watch). ³⁵ γρηγορεῖτε (Watch) οὖν (therefore)— οὐκ (not) οἴδατε (you know) γὰρ (for) πότε (when) ὁ (the) κύριος (master) τῆς (of the) οἰκίας (house) ἔρχεται (comes), ἢ (or) ὀψὲ (at evening), ἢ (or) μεσονύκτιον (at midnight), ἢ (or) ἀλεκτοροφωνίας (when the rooster crows), ἢ (or) πρωΐ (morning) — ³⁶ μὴ (lest) ἐλθὼν (having come) ἐξαίφνης (suddenly), εὕρῃ (he should find) ὑμᾶς (you) καθεύδοντας (sleeping). ³⁷ ὃ (What) δὲ (now) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I say), πᾶσιν (to all) λέγω (I say): γρηγορεῖτε (Watch)!”

⁵ Καί (And) τινων (as some) λεγόντων (were speaking) περὶ (about) τοῦ (the) ἱεροῦ (temple), ὅτι (that) λίθοις (with stones) καλοῖς (goodly) καὶ (and) ἀναθήμασιν (consecrated gifts) κεκόσμηται (it was adorned), εἶπεν (He said), ⁶ “Ταῦτα (As to these things) ἃ (which) θεωρεῖτε (you are beholding), ἐλεύσονται (will come) ἡμέραι (the days) ἐν (in) αἷς (which) οὐκ (not) ἀφεθήσεται (will be left) λίθος (stone) ἐπὶ (upon) λίθῳ (stone) ὃς (which) οὐ (not) καταλυθήσεται (will be thrown down).” ⁷ Ἐπηρώτησαν (They asked) δὲ (then) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγοντες (saying), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher), πότε (when) οὖν (then) ταῦτα (these things) ἔσται (will be), καὶ (and) τί (what will be) τὸ (the) σημεῖον (sign) ὅταν (when) μέλλῃ (are about) ταῦτα (these things) γίνεσθαι (to take place)?” ⁸ Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said), “Βλέπετε (Take heed), μὴ (lest) πλανηθῆτε (you be led astray); πολλοὶ (many) γὰρ (for) ἐλεύσονται (will come) ἐπὶ (in) τῷ (the) ὀνόματί (name) μου (of Me), λέγοντες (saying), ‘Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He),’ καί (and) ‘Ὁ (The) καιρὸς (time) ἤγγικεν (is drawn near).’ μὴ (Not) πορευθῆτε (go) ὀπίσω (after) αὐτῶν (them). ⁹ ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἀκούσητε (you should hear of) πολέμους (wars) καὶ (and) ἀκαταστασίας (commotions), μὴ (not) πτοηθῆτε (be terrified); δεῖ (it behooves) γὰρ (for) ταῦτα (these things) γενέσθαι (to take place) πρῶτον (first), ἀλλ’ (but) οὐκ (not) εὐθέως (immediately is) τὸ (the) τέλος (end).” ¹⁰ Τότε (Then) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἐγερθήσεται (Will rise up) ἔθνος (nation) ἐπ’ (against) ἔθνος (nation), καὶ (and) βασιλεία (kingdom) ἐπὶ (against) βασιλείαν (kingdom). ¹¹ σεισμοί (Earthquakes) τε (both) μεγάλοι (great), καὶ (and) κατὰ (in different) τόπους (places) λιμοὶ* (famines) καὶ (and) λοιμοὶ* (pestilences) ἔσονται (there will be); φόβητρά (fearful sights) τε (also) καὶ (and) «ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ» (heaven) σημεῖα (signs) μεγάλα (great) ἔσται (will there be). ¹² Πρὸ (Before) δὲ (however) τούτων (these things) πάντων (all), ἐπιβαλοῦσιν (they will lay) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) τὰς (the) χεῖρας (hands) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) διώξουσιν (will persecute you), παραδιδόντες (delivering you) εἰς (to) τὰς (the) συναγωγὰς (synagogues) καὶ (and) φυλακάς (prisons), ἀπαγομένους (bringing you) ἐπὶ (before) βασιλεῖς (kings) καὶ (and) ἡγεμόνας (governors) ἕνεκεν (on account of) τοῦ (the) ὀνόματός (name) μου (of Me). ¹³ ἀποβήσεται (It will result) ὑμῖν (to you) εἰς (for) μαρτύριον (a testimony). ¹⁴ θέτε (Settle) οὖν (therefore) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (minds) ὑμῶν (of you) μὴ (not) προμελετᾶν (to premeditate) ἀπολογηθῆναι (to make a defense); ¹⁵ ἐγὼ (I) γὰρ (for) δώσω (will give) ὑμῖν (you) στόμα (a mouth) καὶ (and) σοφίαν (wisdom), ᾗ (which) οὐ (not) δυνήσονται (will be able) ἀντιστῆναι (to resist) ἢ (nor) ἀντειπεῖν (to reply to) ἅπαντες (all) οἱ (those) ἀντικείμενοι (opposing) ὑμῖν (you). ¹⁶ Παραδοθήσεσθε (You will be betrayed) δὲ (then) καὶ (even) ὑπὸ (by) γονέων (parents) καὶ (and) ἀδελφῶν (brothers) καὶ (and) συγγενῶν (relatives) καὶ (and) φίλων (friends), καὶ (and) θανατώσουσιν (they will put to death) ἐξ (some from among) ὑμῶν (you). ¹⁷ καὶ (And) ἔσεσθε (you will be) μισούμενοι (hated) ὑπὸ (by) πάντων (all) διὰ (because of) τὸ (the) ὄνομά (name) μου (of Me). ¹⁸ καὶ (But) θρὶξ (a hair) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) κεφαλῆς (head) ὑμῶν (of you) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἀπόληται (should perish). ¹⁹ ἐν (By) τῇ (the) ὑπομονῇ (patient endurance) ὑμῶν (of you), κτήσασθε* (you will gain) τὰς (the) ψυχὰς (souls) ὑμῶν (of you). ²⁰ Ὅταν (When) δὲ (then) ἴδητε (you see) κυκλουμένην (being encircled) ὑπὸ (by) στρατοπέδων (encampments) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), τότε (then) γνῶτε (know) ὅτι (that) ἤγγικεν (has drawn near) ἡ (the) ἐρήμωσις (desolation) αὐτῆς (of her). ²¹ τότε (Then) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἰουδαίᾳ (Judea), φευγέτωσαν (let them flee) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ὄρη (mountains); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (midst) αὐτῆς (of her), ἐκχωρείτωσαν (let them depart out); καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) χώραις (countries), μὴ (not) εἰσερχέσθωσαν (let them enter) εἰς (into) αὐτήν (her); πάντα (all) καὶ (and) Ἰερουσαλὴμ (Jerusalem) ἔσται (will be) πατουμένη (trodden down) ὑπὸ (by) ἐθνῶν (the Gentiles), ἄχρι (until) οὗ (that) πληρωθῶσιν (are fulfilled) καιροὶ (the times) ἐθνῶν (of the Gentiles). ²⁵ Καὶ (And) ἔσονται (there will be) σημεῖα (signs) ἐν (in) ἡλίῳ (sun), καὶ (and) σελήνῃ (moon), καὶ (and) ἄστροις (stars); καὶ (and) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth) συνοχὴ (distress) ἐθνῶν (of nations) ἐν (with) ἀπορίᾳ (perplexity), ἤχους (the roaring) θαλάσσης (of the sea) καὶ (and) σάλου (rolling surge), ²⁶ ἀποψυχόντων (fainting) ἀνθρώπων (men) ἀπὸ (from) φόβου (fear) καὶ (and) προσδοκίας (expectation) τῶν (of that which) ἐπερχομένων (is coming) τῇ (on the) οἰκουμένῃ (earth); αἱ (-) γὰρ (for) δυνάμεις (the powers) τῶν (of the) οὐρανῶν (heavens) σαλευθήσονται (will be shaken). ²⁷ καὶ (And) τότε (then) ὄψονται (will they see) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐρχόμενον (coming) ἐν (in) νεφέλῃ (a cloud), μετὰ (with) δυνάμεως (power) καὶ (and) δόξης (glory) πολλῆς (great). ²⁸ ἀρχομένων (Beginning) δὲ (then) τούτων (of these things) γίνεσθαι (to come to pass), ἀνακύψατε (look up) καὶ (and) ἐπάρατε (lift up) τὰς (the) κεφαλὰς (heads) ὑμῶν (of you), διότι (because) ἐγγίζει (draws near) ἡ (the) ἀπολύτρωσις (redemption) ὑμῶν (of you).” ²⁹ Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He spoke) παραβολὴν (a parable) αὐτοῖς (to them): “Ἴδετε (Behold) τὴν (the) συκῆν (fig tree) καὶ (and) πάντα (all) τὰ (the) δένδρα (trees). ³⁰ ὅταν (When) προβάλωσιν (they sprout) ἤδη (already), βλέποντες (looking on them) ἀφ’ (for) ἑαυτῶν (yourselves), γινώσκετε (you know) ὅτι (that) ἤδη (already) ἐγγὺς (near) τὸ (the) θέρος (summer) ἐστίν (is). ³¹ οὕτως (So) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you), ὅταν (when) ἴδητε (you see) ταῦτα (these things) γινόμενα (coming to pass), γινώσκετε (know) ὅτι (that) ἐγγύς (near) ἐστιν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). ³² ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ὅτι (that) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) παρέλθῃ (will have passed away) ἡ (the) γενεὰ (generation) αὕτη (this), ἕως (until) ἂν (-) πάντα (all these things) γένηται (shall have taken place). ³³ ὁ (The) οὐρανὸς (heaven) καὶ (and) ἡ (the) γῆ (earth) παρελεύσονται (will pass away), οἱ (-) δὲ (but) λόγοι (the words) μου (of Me) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) παρελεύσονται (will pass away). ³⁴ Προσέχετε (Take heed) δὲ (now) ἑαυτοῖς (to yourselves), μή‿ (lest) ποτε (ever) βαρηθῶσιν (be burdened) ὑμῶν (of you) αἱ (the) καρδίαι (hearts) ἐν (with) κραιπάλῃ (dissipation) καὶ (and) μέθῃ (drunkenness) καὶ (and) μερίμναις (cares) βιωτικαῖς (of life) — καὶ (and) ἐπιστῇ (would come) ἐφ’ (upon) ὑμᾶς (you) αἰφνίδιος (suddenly) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) ἐκείνη (that) ὡς (as) παγίς (a snare). ³⁵ ἐπεισελεύσεται (It will come) γὰρ (for) ἐπὶ (upon) πάντας (all) τοὺς (those) καθημένους (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) πρόσωπον (the face) πάσης (of all) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth). ³⁶ ἀγρυπνεῖτε (Watch) δὲ (also) ἐν (at) παντὶ (every) καιρῷ (season), δεόμενοι (praying) ἵνα (that) κατισχύσητε (you may have strength) ἐκφυγεῖν (to escape) ταῦτα (these things) πάντα (all) τὰ (that) μέλλοντα (are about) γίνεσθαι (to come to pass) καὶ (and) σταθῆναι (to stand) ἔμπροσθεν (before) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).”

²⁰ Εἶπαν (Said) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews), “Τεσσεράκοντα (Forty) καὶ (and) ἓξ (six) ἔτεσιν (years) οἰκοδομήθη (was built) ὁ (the) ναὸς (temple) οὗτος (this), καὶ (and) σὺ (You) ἐν (in) τρισὶν (three) ἡμέραις (days) ἐγερεῖς (will raise up) αὐτόν (it)?”
