Worrell⁽ⁱ⁾ ²⁴ And, the messengers of John having gone away, He began to say to the multitudes concerning John, "What went ye forth into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken by the wind? ²⁵ But what went ye forth to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, those clothed in splendid apparel, and living in luxury, are in kingly courts! ²⁶ But what went ye forth to see? a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he concerning whom it has been written, 'Behold, I send forth My messenger before Thy face, who will prepare Thy way before Thee.' ²⁸ I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; but the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he." ²⁹ And all the people, having heard, and the tax-collectors, justified God, having been immersed with the immersion of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been immersed by him.
