And the messengers of John having departed, He began to speak to the crowds concerning John: “What have you gone out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
But what have you gone out to see? A man arrayed in fine clothing? Behold, those in splendid clothing and living in luxury are in palaces.
But what have you gone out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and one more excellent than a prophet.
This is he concerning whom it has been written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before your face, who will prepare Your way before You.’
I say to you, no one among those born of women is greater than John; yet the least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
And all the people having heard, even the tax collectors, declared God righteous, having been baptized with the baptism of John.
But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been baptized by him.
