23 Then they reached the valley of Eshcol, where they had cut a branch with a cluster of grapes and carried it on a pole between two men, also pomegranates and figs.
24 That place he called the valley of Eshcol on account of the cluster of grapes that the Israelites cut off from there.
25 At the end of forty days they came back from viewing the land.
26 They returned to Moses, Aaron, and the whole congregation of Israel at Kadesh in the Desert of Paran. They gave their report and showed them the fruit from the land.
27 And they told him, "We came to the land that you sent us, and it is flowing of milk and honey; this is its fruit.
28 »The people who live there are strong. The cities have walls and are very large. We even saw the descendants of Anak there.
29 Amalek lives in the land of the Negev while the Hittite, Jebusite, and Amorite live in the hill-country. The Canaanite lives by the sea and on the bank of the Jordan.
30 Caleb silenced the people for Moses and said: Let's go up and possess the land for we can definitely conquer it.
31 The men who had gone with him said: "We cannot attack those people! They are too strong for us!
32 »They spread lies among the Israelites about the land they had explored. They said: The land we explored is one that devours those who live there. All the people we saw there are very tall.
33 There we saw the Nephilim (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their eyes."

2 All the Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron and the whole assembly said to them: Oh that we had died in Egypt or in this wilderness.
3 Why is the LORD bringing us to this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones shall be taken as plunder. Is it not better for us to return to Egypt?
4 They said to each other: "Let us choose a leader and go back to Egypt."
5 Then Moses and Aaron went down on their faces before the meeting of the people.
6 Joshua, the son of Nun and Caleb, the son of Jephunneh, who were with those who explored the land, tore their clothes.
7 They reasoned with the entire congregation of Israel saying: The land, which we've passed through to explore is exceedingly good.
8 If the LORD delight in us, he will bring us into this land, and give it us, a land that flows with milk and honey;
9 Only, do not rebel against the LORD. And you, do not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defense has turned away from them; and the LORD is with us; do not be afraid of them.
10 But the whole congregation desired to stone them to death. Suddenly, the glory of the LORD appeared at the tent of meeting, to all the Israelites.
