2 Chronicles 14

VIN(i) 1 And Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David. And his son Asa reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet ten years. 2 And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God. 3 He removed the foreign altars and high places, broke down the stone pillars, and cut down the Asherahs. 4 and commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command. 5 And he removed the high places and the incense stands from all the cities of Judah, and the kingdom had rest under him. 6 He built fortified cities in Judah and the land had peace. There was no war during those years because the LORD gave him a time of peace. 7 For he said to Judah, "Let us build these cities, and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought the LORD our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side." So they built and prospered. 8 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand Judeans who were armed with large shields and spears and two hundred and eighty thousand Benjaminites who were armed with small shields and bows. All of these men were strong fighting men. 9 And Zerah the Ethiopian went out against them, with a force of a million, and three hundred chariots; and came to Mareshah. 10 Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah. 11 Then Asa cried out to the LORD his God. And he said, "O LORD, there is none with you to help between the great and the powerless. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely upon you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God! Let no man prevail against you!" 12 And the LORD struck the Cushites before Asa and before Judah. And the Cushites fled. 13 And Asa and his people pursued them to Gerar; and the Ethiopians fell, so that they could not recover themselves; for they were crushed before the Lord, and before His army; and they took many spoils. 14 And they struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of the LORD had come on them. And they plundered all the cities, for there was much booty in them. 15 They also attacked the tents of those who owned livestock and carried off lots of sheep and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.
