When, therefore, they were assembled together, Pilate said to them, Which do you wish me to release to you? Barabbas? or Jesus, called Christ?
For he knew that they had delivered him up from envy.
And as he sat on the tribunal his wife sent to him, saying, Have nothing to do with that just man, for I have suffered much to-day on his account, from a dream.
(25:5) But the chief priests and elders persuaded the people to ask for Barabbas, and to destroy Jesus.
And the procurator answered and said to them, Which of the two do you wish me to release to you? And they said, Barabbas.
Pilate said to them, What then shall I do to Jesus, called Christ? They all said, Let him be crucified.
But he said, [No]; for what evil has he done? And they cried more vehemently, saying, Let him be crucified.
(25:6) And Pilate seeing that he accomplished nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this man; see you to it.
And all the people answered and said, His blood be upon us and upon our children.
Then he released Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus delivered him up to be crucified.
