John 6:50-71

Riverside(i) 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that any one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread that comes down from heaven. If any one eats of this bread, he will live forever. And the bread that I will give is my flesh: I will give it for the life of the world." 52 The Jews disputed angrily with one another, saying, "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" 53 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you. 54 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up on the last day. 55 For my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink. 56 He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I abide in him. 57 As the living Father sent me and I am living because of the Father, so he who eats me — he will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven, not such as your fathers ate and died. He who eats this bread will live forever." 59 These things he said while teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum. 60 Many of his disciples, after hearing him, said, "This is a hard doctrine. Who can listen to it?" 61 Jesus, knowing in his own mind that his disciples were muttering about this, said to them, "Does this make you stumble? 62 What if you behold the Son of Man ascending where he was before? 63 The spirit is what gives life; the flesh is of no account. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. 64 But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. 65 He said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it has been granted to him from the Father." 66 After that many of the disciples drew back from him and no longer went about with him. 67 Jesus said to the twelve, "Will you also go away?" 68 Simon Peter answered him, "Sir, to whom shall we go? You have the words of life eternal, 69 and we are persuaded and know that you are the Holy One of God." 70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!" 71 He was speaking of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot. For he was going to betray him, though he was one of the twelve.
