MNT⁽ⁱ⁾ ⁶⁹ Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard, and one of the maidservants came up to him and said, "You also were with Jesus, the Galilean!" ⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all; "I do not know what you mean," he said. ⁷¹ Soon afterward he went out into the porch, and another maid saw him, and said to those who were there, "This fellow certainly was with Jesus, the Nazarene!" ⁷² And again he denied it with an oath, saying, "I never knew the man." ⁷³ A little later the bystanders came up and said to Peter, "You also are certainly one of them, for your speech betrays you." ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and swear, saying, "I never knew the man." Immediately the cock crew! ⁷⁵ Then Peter recalled the word that Jesus had spoken, "Before the cock crow, you shall three times deny me"—and he went out and broke out into bitter weeping.
