Matthew 26:69-75

AUV(i) 69 Now Peter was sitting outside in a courtyard and a servant-girl approached him and said, “You also were with Jesus, the Galilean.” 70 But he denied [it] in front of all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.” 71 And when he had gone out by the gate, another servant-girl saw him and said to those nearby, “This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.” 72 And he denied [it] again, [this time] with an oath, saying, “I do not [even] know the man.” 73 And a little later, those standing nearby came to Peter and said, “[We know] for sure, you also are one of them [i.e., Jesus’ disciples], because your accent gives you away.” 74 Then Peter began to curse and swear, “[I tell you], I do not know the man.” And immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the words Jesus had said, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny [knowing] me three times.” And he went out and cried bitterly.
