Joshua 5:13-6:2 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, a man was standing over against him with his sword drawn in his hand; and Joshua went unto him, and said to him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed himself, and said to him, What doth my lord speak unto his servant? ¹⁵ And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. ⁶ ¹ Now Jericho was shut up, and barred up, because of the children of Israel: no one went out, and no one came in. ² And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thy hand Jericho and its king, even the mighty men of valor.
