Then going, the Pharisees took counsel so as they might trap Him in words.
And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Teacher, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, and it does not concern you about anyone, for you do not look to the face of men.
Then tell us, what do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
But knowing their wickedness, Jesus said, Why do you test Me, hypocrites?
Show Me the tribute coin. And they brought a denarius to Him.
And He said to them, Whose image and inscription is this?
They said to Him, Caesar's. Then He said to them, Then give to Caesar the things of Caesar, and to God the things of God.
And hearing, they marveled. And leaving Him, they went away.
On that day, Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to Him. And they questioned Him,
saying, Teacher, Moses said, If any should die not having children, his brother shall marry his wife, and shall raise up seed to his brother. Deut. 25:5
And seven brothers were with us. And having married, the first expired, and not having seed left his wife to his brother.
In the same way also the second, and the third, until the seven.
And last of all, the woman also died.
Then in the resurrection, of which of the seven will she be wife? For all had her.
And answering, Jesus said to them, You err, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.
For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but they are as the angels of God in Heaven.
But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that spoken to you by God, saying:
"I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?" God is not God of the dead, but of the living. Ex. 3:6
And hearing, the crowds were astonished at His doctrine.
