¹⁵ Then going, the Pharisees took counsel so as they might trap Him in words.

² The kings of the earth set themselves; yea, the rulers have plotted together against Jehovah and His anointed, saying,

⁶ And when he comes to see me he speaks vanity; his heart gathers iniquity to itself; he goes outside and speaks.

⁵ All the day they pervert my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil. ⁶ They stir up strife; they hide; they observe my footprints as they wait for my soul. ⁷ Is escape for them by iniquity? In anger the peoples cast down, O God.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down; they have dug a pit before me; they have fallen into it. Selah.

³ For lo, they lie in wait for my soul, mighty ones gather against me; not for my transgression, and not my sin, O Jehovah.

²¹ those who make a man sin by a word, even laying a trap for the reprover in the gate, and turn aside the just for a worthless thing.

¹⁸ Then they said, Come and let us plot schemes against Jeremiah. For the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor word from the prophet. Come and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not listen to any of his words.

¹⁰ For I heard the slanders of many, Terror is all around! Expose! Yea, let us expose him! Every man of my peace watched for my fall, saying, Perhaps he will be lured away, and we shall prevail against him; and we shall take revenge on him.

¹³ And they sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to Him, that they might catch Him in a word. ¹⁴ And coming, they said to Him, Teacher, we know that you are true, and there is not a care to you about anyone, for you do not look to the face of men, but teach on the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? ¹⁵ Should we give, or should we not give? But knowing their hypocrisy, He said to them, Why do you tempt Me? Bring Me a denarius that I may see. ¹⁶ And they brought one . And He said to them, Whose image and inscription is this? And they said to Him, Caesar's. ¹⁷ And answering, Jesus said to them, Render the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God. And they marveled at Him.

⁵³ And as He was saying these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to be terribly angry, and to draw Him out concerning many things, ⁵⁴ lying in ambush for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth that they might accuse Him.

²⁰ And watching carefully, they sent spies, pretending themselves to be righteous, in order that they might seize upon a word of His, so as to deliver Him to the power and to the authority of the governor. ²¹ And they questioned Him, saying, Teacher, we know that you say and teach rightly, and do not receive a face, but you teach the way of God with truth. ²² Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? ²³ But perceiving their slyness, He said to them, Why do you tempt Me? ²⁴ Show Me a denarius. Whose image and superscription does it have? And answering, they said, Caesar's. ²⁵ And He said to them, Then render the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God. ²⁶ And they were not able to lay hold of His speech before the people. And marveling at His answer, they were silent.

³ For consider Him who had endured such gainsaying of sinners against Himself, that you do not grow weary, fainting in your souls.
