And the angel says to me, Why marvel? I say to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast who bears her - having the seven heads and ten horns. 8 The beast you see was, and is not: and is about to ascend from the abyss and go into destruction: and they who settle on the earth marvel - whose names are not scribed in the scroll of life from the foundation of the cosmos - when they see the beast who was and is not and though is. 9 And here is the mind having wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains whereon the woman sits. 10 And there are seven sovereigns: five are fallen and one is and the other has not yet come; and when he comes he must abide a little. 11 And the beast who was and is not he is also the eighth and is of the seven and goes into destruction. 12 And the ten horns you see are ten sovereigns, who take no sovereigndom as yet; but take authority as sovereigns with the beast one hour.
