Hebrews 11:32-12:2

Anderson(i) 32 And what further shall I say? For the time would fail me, were I to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthah, of David also and Samuel, and of the prophets, 33 who, through faith, subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, closed the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again: but others were beat to death, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection; 36 others had trial of mockings and scourgings, bonds also, and imprisonments. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, they were tempted, they were slain with the sword: they went about in. sheep-skins, in goat-skins, being destitute, afflicted, oppressed with evils, 38 (of whom the world was not worthy,) wandering in deserts, and in mountains, and in caverns, and in dens of the earth. 39 And all these, having obtained a good reputation by faith, received not the promise, 40 because God had provided some better thing for us, that they, without us, should not be made perfect. 12 1 Wherefore, since we also have so great a cloud of witnesses lying round about us, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin that so easily besets us, and let us run with patience the race that lies before us, 2 looking to Jesus the author and finisher of the faith, who, for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
