ABU(i)
Then the Pharisees went and took counsel, how they might ensnare him with a word.
And they send out to him their disciples, with the Herodians, saying: Teacher, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth; neither carest thou for any one, for thou regardest not the person of men.
Tell us, therefore, what thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said: Why tempt ye me, hypocrites!
Show me the tribute money. And they brought to him a denáry.
And he says to them: Whose is this image, and the inscription?
They say to him: Caesar's. Then says he to them; Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.
And hearing it they wondered, and left him and went away.
On that day came to him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,
saying: Teacher, Moses said, If any one die having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.
Now there were with us seven brothers; and the first married and died, and having no seed left his wife to his brother.
Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.
And last of all the woman died also.
In the resurrection therefore, of which of the seven shall she be wife? For they all had her.
Jesus answering said to them: Ye err, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God.
For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.
But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying:
I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.
