3 John Cross References - Worsley

1 The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth. 2 Beloved, I earnestly pray, that thou mayst prosper and be in health, as thy soul prospereth. 3 For I greatly rejoiced, when the brethren came, and bore testimony to thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. 4 And I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth. 5 Beloved, thou actest faithfully in whatsoever service thou dost to the brethren, and to strangers too; 6 who have borne witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well in forwarding, as is worthy of God. 7 For they went forth for his name's sake, taking nothing of the gentiles. 8 We ought therefore to receive such, that we may become fellow-laborers in the truth. 9 I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who affects the pre-eminence among them, doth not receive us. 10 Therefore when I come, I will remember his deeds, prating against us with wicked words: and not content with these, he neither receiveth the brethren himself, nor suffers those that would; and casteth them out of the church. 11 Beloved, do not thou follow that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doth good is of God: but he, that doth evil, hath not seen God. 12 A good testimony is borne to Demetrius by all men, and by the truth itself: yea, and we also bear him like witness, and ye know that our testimony is true. 13 I had many things to write: but I would not write to thee with pen and ink; 14 for I hope to see thee soon, and we shall speak mouth to mouth. (15) Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.

Matthew 20:20-28

20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came to Him, together with her two sons, falling down before Him, and presenting a petition to Him. 21 And He said unto her, What dost thou desire? She saith unto Him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on the left in thy kingdom. 22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask: are ye able to drink of the cup which I am going to drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 23 They replied, We are able. And He saith unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of my cup, and shall be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but to those for whom it is prepared by my Father. 24 And when the other ten heard it, they were provoked at the two brethren: 25 but Jesus called them to Him and said, Ye know that the princes of the gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority upon them: 26 it shall not be so among you; but whosoever would be great among you, let him be your minister, and whoever would be chief among you, 27 let him be your servant: 28 as the Son of man came not to be ministred unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

Matthew 23:4-8

4 for they bind grievous and intolerable burthens, and impose them upon men; but they themselves will not put a finger to them: 5 but they do all their works to be seen by men; they make their phylacteries broad, and enlarge the fringes of their garments, 6 and love the uppermost places at feasts, 7 and the chief seats in the synagogues, and salutations in public assemblies, and to be called by men Rabbi, Rabbi. 8 But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your instructor even Christ, and ye are all brethren.

Can ye drink of the cup, that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 39 And they said, We can. And Jesus said unto them, The cup indeed which I drink, ye shall drink of; and with the baptism, that I am baptized with, shall ye be baptized: 40 but to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, but for whom it is prepared. 41 And when the other ten heard it, they were provoked at James and John. 42 But Jesus called them to Him, and said unto them, Ye know that those who rule among the Gentiles, lord it over them, and their grandees exercise authority upon them. 43 But it shall not be so among you: but whoever would be great among you shall be your minister; 44 and whoever of you would be first shall be servant of all. 45 For the Son of man came not to be ministred unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.

Luke 22:24-27

24 And there was also a dispute among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest: 25 but He said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority are called benefactors. 26 But ye shall not do so: but let the greatest among you be as the younger; and he that presides as he that serveth. 27 For which is greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at table? but I am among you as one that serveth.

John 9:34-35

34 They answered, and said unto him, Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? 35 And they cast him out. Now Jesus heard that they had turned him out of the synagogue; and when He met him, He said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

Salute my beloved Epenetus, who is the first-fruits of Achaia unto Christ. 6 Salute Mary, who took much pains on our account. 7 Salute Andronicus and Junias my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are men of note among the apostles, and who were in Christ before me. 8 Salute Amplias my beloved in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 3:5-9

5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whose means ye embraced the faith, even as the Lord gave success to each of them? 6 I have planted, Apollos watered: but God gave the increase. 7 So that neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase. 8 And he that planteth, and he that watereth, are as one: but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. 9 For we are fellow-laborers, the servants of God: and ye are the husbandry of God, ye are the building of God.

1 Corinthians 4:14-15

14 I do not write these things to shame you, but as my beloved children I admonish you: 15 for if ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet ye have not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you by the gospel. 16 I beseech you therefore, be ye imitators of me.

1 Corinthians 5:1-5

1 It is commonly reported that there is lewdness among you, and such lewdness as is not named even amongst the heathens, that one should have his father's wife. 2 And are ye puffed up, and have not rather grieved? that he who hath committed this fact might be expelled from among you? 3 For I indeed, absent in body, but present in spirit, have already, as if I were present, judged him who hath wrought this wickedness: in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 when ye are assembled together with my spirit, by the power, I say, 5 of our Lord Jesus Christ, to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Your boasting is not good.

1 Corinthians 9:12-15

12 If others partake of this power over you, may not we rather? though we have not used this power; but we bear all things, least we should cause any hindrance to the gospel of Christ. 13 Do ye not know, that they who are employed about the sacrifices have their food from the temple? and they, who attend at the altar, are partakers with the altar? 14 So also the Lord hath ordained, that those who preach the Gospel should live of the Gospel. 15 But I have availed myself of none of these things. Nor have I written these things, that it might be so done as to me: for it were better for me to die, than that any one should make this my glorying void.

1 Corinthians 9:18

18 What is my reward then but this? that when I preach I may make the gospel of Christ not expensive, that so I may not abuse my power in the gospel.

1 Corinthians 11:1

1 Be ye then imitators of me, as I also am of Christ.

1 Corinthians 16:10-11

10 If Timothy should come, see that he be with you without fear: for he is employed in the work of the Lord, as I also am. 11 Let no one therefore despise him: but forward him on his journey in peace, that he may come to me; for I expect him with the brethren. As to our brother Apollos,

2 Corinthians 1:16

16 and then to come to you again from Macedonia, and by you to be forwarded on my way to Judea.

2 Corinthians 4:1-3

1 Therefore having received this ministry, as we have obtained mercy, we are not disheartened: 2 but have rejected shameful disguises, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth, recommending ourselves to every man's conscience, in the sight of God. 3 And if our gospel also be veiled, it is to those that perish;

2 Corinthians 4:5

5 for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for the sake of Jesus.

2 Corinthians 6:1

1 And we co-operating with Him do also exhort you that ye receive not the grace of God in vain:

2 Corinthians 7:2-3

2 Receive us---we have injured no man, we have corrupted no one, we have over-reached no one. 3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I said before that ye are so much in our hearts that we could live and die with you.

2 Corinthians 7:6-7

6 But God, who comforteth those that are brought low, comforted us by the coming of Titus: 7 and not only by his coming, but especially by the consolation wherewith he was comforted on your account, acquainting us with your earnest desire towards us, your grief, and your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced greatly.

2 Corinthians 8:23

23 If then there be any inquiry about Titus, he is my collegue and fellow-laborer among you: and if our brethren be inquired after, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.

2 Corinthians 10:1-11

1 Now I Paul myself exhort you, by the meekness and lenity of Christ, who in presence am lowly among you, 2 but being absent am bold towards you, yea I intreat you, that I may not be bold, when I am present, with that confidence, wherewith I think to proceed against some, who censure us as walking after the flesh. 3 For though we are in the flesh, we do not carry on our war according to the flesh: 4 (for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the demolishing of bulwarks:) 5 destroying false reasonings, and every height that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and captivating every thought to the obedience of Christ. 6 And being prepared to avenge all disobedience, since your obedience is fulfilled. 7 Do ye look at things according to the outward appearance? If any one is confident in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again of himself, that as he is Christ's, so we also are Christ's. 8 For though I should boast yet more of our authority, (which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction) I should not be ashamed: 9 that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters; 10 for his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible. 11 But let such a one know this, that as we are in word by letters, when absent, such also shall we be in fact when present.

2 Corinthians 11:7-9

7 Have I committed an offence in humbling myself that ye might be exalted? and in that I have preached the gospel of God to you gratis? 8 I trespassed on other churches, receiving maintenance from them for your service. 9 And when I was present among you, and in want, I was chargeable to no one. For the brethren that came from Macedonia supplied my want: and in every thing I have kept myself from being burdensome to you, and so I will keep myself.

2 Corinthians 12:13

13 For what is it that ye were inferior in to the rest of the churches, unless it be that I myself was not burdensome to you?--- Forgive me this injury.

2 Corinthians 13:2

2 I said before, and I again tell you beforehand, as if I were present the second time; and being absent I now write to those who have sinned heretofore, and to all the rest, that if I come again I will not spare:

Galatians 2:14

14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all,---If thou, who art a Jew, livest sometimes after the manner of the gentiles, and not like the Jews, why dost thou now in a manner compel the gentiles to judaize?

19 My little children, of whom I do as it were travail in birth again,

Colossians 1:4-6

4 (having heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and your love to all the saints:) 5 for the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which ye have heard before in the word of truth, that is the gospel; 6 which is come unto you, even as in all the world, and is fruitful; as it hath been also among you, from the day in which ye heard and knew the grace of God in truth. 7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our beloved fellow-servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ for you; 8 who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 1:3-10

3 Incessantly remembering your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father: 4 knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God. 5 For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also in power, and in the holy Ghost, and in much certainty; as ye know what sort of persons we were among you for your sakes. 6 And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word tho' in much affliction, yet with joy of the holy Ghost.

1 Thessalonians 1:6

6 And ye became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word tho' in much affliction, yet with joy of the holy Ghost. 7 So that ye became examples to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For the word of the Lord sounded forth from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia; but also in every place your faith towards God is spread abroad, so that we have no need to say any thing of it. 9 For they themselves declare concerning us what kind of entrance we had among you, and how ye turned to God from idols, to serve the living and true God; 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivereth us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 2:12

12 and charged you, that ye should walk worthy of God, who hath called you to his kingdom and glory. 13 For this also we thank God continually, that when ye received the word of God, which ye heard from us, ye received it not as the word of men, but (as it is in truth) the word of God, which also worketh effectually in you that believe. 14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God, which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus, in that ye also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, as they have from the Jews:

1 Thessalonians 2:14

14 For ye, brethren, became followers of the churches of God, which are in Judea, in Christ Jesus, in that ye also have suffered the same things from your own countrymen, as they have from the Jews:

6 But now Timothy being come back to us from you, and having brought us good tidings concerning your faith and love, and that ye have always a good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we indeed do to see you; 7 by this we were comforted in you, my brethren, under all our affliction and distress, because of your faith: 8 for now we are revived, since you are stedfast in the Lord. 9 For what thanks can we render to God concerning you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoice on your account before our God,

Titus 1:7-16

7 For a bishop must be blameless as the steward of God, not self-willed, not passionate, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of sordid gain: 8 but hospitable, benevolent, sober, just, holy, temperate; 9 holding fast the faithful word, according as he hath been taught, that he may be able both to instruct in sound doctrine, and to convince gainsayers. 10 For there are many disorderly persons, vain-talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision; whose mouths must be stopped: 11 who subvert whole families, teaching what they ought not, for shameful gain: 12 as said one of themselves, a prophet of their own, "The Cretans are always liars, mischievous beasts, sluggish gluttons." 13 This testimony is true: for which cause rebuke them sharply, that they may be found in the faith; 14 not attending to Jewish fables, and the precepts of men who turn away from the truth. 15 To the pure indeed all things are pure; but to the polluted and unbelieving nothing is pure; even their mind and conscience is polluted. 16 They profess to know God, but in works deny Him, being abominable and disobedient, and to every thing that is good void of understanding.

20 For what glory is it, if when ye sin and are punished for it, ye bear it patiently? but if when ye do well and suffer for it, ye bear it patiently, this will gain favor with God.

1 Peter 4:8

8 having above all things fervent love to each other; for love will cover a multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:10-11

10 as every one hath received a gift, imparting it to each other, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any one speak, let it be as declaring the oracles of God: if any one minister, let it be as from the power which God affordeth him: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:14

14 Salute one another with a kiss of charity. Peace be with you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

2 Peter 1:3-9

3 as his divine power hath given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who hath called us by that glory and virtue, 4 by which are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye may become partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And to this giving all diligence, add to your faith fortitude; 6 and to fortitude knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience piety; 7 and to piety brotherly affection; and to brotherly affection charity. 8 For if these be in you and abound, they will not suffer you to be idle, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he, that hath not these, is blind, or short-sighted, having forgot his baptismal purification from his former sins.

2 Peter 3:18

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: to Him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

1 John 2:29

29 If ye know that He is righteous, ye know that every one, who practiseth righteousness, is born of Him.

1 John 3:6-9

6 Whosoever abideth in Him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen Him, nor known Him. 7 Little children, let no one deceive you: he that practiseth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous: 8 he, that makes a practise of sin, is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. And for this the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not practise sin, because his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

1 John 3:18

18 My little children, let us not love in word, or in tongue only, but in deed and in truth.

2 John 1:1-13

1 The elder unto the excellent Lady, and her children, whom I love in truth: and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; 2 for the sake of the truth which dwelleth in us, and will be with us for ever:

2 John 1:2

2 for the sake of the truth which dwelleth in us, and will be with us for ever: 3 grace, mercy, and peace be with you from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. 4 I rejoiced greatly that I found among thy children such as walked in truth, as we received commandment from the Father.

2 John 1:4

4 I rejoiced greatly that I found among thy children such as walked in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. 5 And now I beseech thee, Lady, not as writing to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we may love one another. 6 And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it. 7 For many deceivers are come out into the world, who disown that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. Such a one is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which ye have wrought, but that ye may receive a full reward. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: but he, that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, hath both the Father and the Son. 10 Now if any one come unto you, and bringeth not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, nor wish him success: for he, 11 that biddeth him welcome, is partaker of his evil deeds. 12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full.

2 John 1:12

12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full. 13 The children of thy elect sister salute thee. Amen.

3 John 1:3-6

3 For I greatly rejoiced, when the brethren came, and bore testimony to thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. 4 And I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth.

3 John 1:4

4 And I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in the truth. 5 Beloved, thou actest faithfully in whatsoever service thou dost to the brethren, and to strangers too;

3 John 1:5

5 Beloved, thou actest faithfully in whatsoever service thou dost to the brethren, and to strangers too; 6 who have borne witness to thy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well in forwarding, as is worthy of God.

3 John 1:8

8 We ought therefore to receive such, that we may become fellow-laborers in the truth.

3 John 1:10

10 Therefore when I come, I will remember his deeds, prating against us with wicked words: and not content with these, he neither receiveth the brethren himself, nor suffers those that would; and casteth them out of the church.

3 John 1:12

12 A good testimony is borne to Demetrius by all men, and by the truth itself: yea, and we also bear him like witness, and ye know that our testimony is true.

Revelation 2:3

3 and for my name's sake thou hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

Revelation 2:9

9 I know thy works and affliction and poverty (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of those that say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.
