¹ The elder unto the excellent Lady, and her children, whom I love in truth: and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth; ² for the sake of the truth which dwelleth in us, and will be with us for ever: ³ grace, mercy, and peace be with you from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. ⁴ I rejoiced greatly that I found among thy children such as walked in truth, as we received commandment from the Father. ⁵ And now I beseech thee, Lady, not as writing to thee a new commandment, but that which we had from the beginning, that we may love one another. ⁶ And this is love, that we walk according to his commandments. This is the commandment, as ye heard from the beginning, that ye should walk in it. ⁷ For many deceivers are come out into the world, who disown that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. Such a one is a deceiver and an antichrist. ⁸ Look to yourselves, that ye lose not the things which ye have wrought, but that ye may receive a full reward. ⁹ Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God: but he, that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, hath both the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ Now if any one come unto you, and bringeth not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, nor wish him success: for he, ¹¹ that biddeth him welcome, is partaker of his evil deeds. ¹² Having many things to write unto you, I would not with paper and ink: but I hope to come unto you, and speak mouth to mouth, that our joy may be full. ¹³ The children of thy elect sister salute thee. Amen.

²³ And this I do for the sake of the gospel, that I may be a fellow partaker of it.

⁸ And last of all He appeared to me also, as one born out of due time: for I am the lest of the apostles,

⁵ I will come to you, when I have passed through Macedonia; for I am to pass through Macedonia. ⁶ And perhaps I shall stay a while, or even pass the winter with you; that ye may forward me on my journey, whithersoever I go. ⁷ For I do not intend to see you now in my way, as I hope to stay some time with you, if the Lord permit.

²² If any one love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be made a curse.

⁵ for we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your servants for the sake of Jesus.

⁸ But tho' we or an angel from heaven should preach to you any other gospel than what we have preached to you; let him be accursed. ⁹ I say it again, if any one preach to you any other gospel than what ye have received, let him be accursed.

⁵ to whom we yielded no submission, not even for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.

¹⁴ But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all,---If thou, who art a Jew, livest sometimes after the manner of the gentiles, and not like the Jews, why dost thou now in a manner compel the gentiles to judaize?

¹ O senseless Galatians, who hath so bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth? you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth as crucified.

⁴ have ye suffered so many things in vain? if indeed in vain.

¹¹ so that I am afraid for you, least I have indeed bestowed upon you labour in vain.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but faith which worketh by love. ⁷ Ye did run well: who hindered you from obeying the truth?

¹³ For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only abuse not this liberty for an occasion to indulge the flesh, but by mutual love serve one another. ¹⁴ For all the law is fulfilled in one precept, even in this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering,

⁴ according as he hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and unblameable before Him in love: ⁵ having before appointed us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ unto Himself, according to the good pleasure of his will;

² even as Christ hath loved us, and given Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odor of sweet perfume.

⁸ For ye were heretofore darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord:

¹¹ And have no communion with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

¹⁵ that ye may be blameless and inoffensive, the children of God without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom ye shine as lights in the world, ¹⁶ exhibiting the word of life; to my rejoicing in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, nor laboured in vain.

¹⁶ But in what we have attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

¹⁰ I rejoiced greatly in the Lord, that your care for me has now flourished again; for whom ye were indeed careful before, but ye wanted opportunity.

³ Incessantly remembering your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father: ⁴ knowing, beloved brethren, your election by God.

¹⁹ For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of boasting? are not ye also among others in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? ²⁰ for ye are our glory and our joy.

⁶ But now Timothy being come back to us from you, and having brought us good tidings concerning your faith and love, and that ye have always a good remembrance of us, greatly desiring to see us, as we indeed do to see you; ⁷ by this we were comforted in you, my brethren, under all our affliction and distress, because of your faith: ⁸ for now we are revived, since you are stedfast in the Lord. ⁹ For what thanks can we render to God concerning you, for all the joy wherewith we rejoice on your account before our God, ¹⁰ night and day most ardently praying, that we may see your face, and perfect whatever is wanting in your faith?

⁹ But as to brotherly love, ye need not that I write unto you; for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

⁶ Now we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to withdraw yourselves from every brother who walketh disorderly, and not according to the instruction which he received from us.

³² But call to remembrance the former days, in which after being enlightened, ye sustained a great conflict of sufferings;

³⁵ Cast not away therefore your couragious profession, which hath a great recompence of reward.

Whose judgement is long since hastening, and their destruction doth not slumber.
