¹ And as he passed by, he saw a man who was blind from [his] birth, sitting. ² And the disciples asked him, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? ³ Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be manifest in him. ⁴ I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh when no one can work. ⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. ⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and mad clay of the spittle, and he anointed his eyes with the clay. ⁷ And said, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is interpreted Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing. ⁸ The neighbours therefore, and they who before had seen him, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged? ⁹ Some said, This is he: others, He is like him: He said himself, I am [he]. ¹⁰ Therefore said they unto him, How then were thine eyes opened? ¹¹ He answered, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: I went therefore and washed, and come seeing. ¹² Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said to them, I know not. ¹³ And they bring him that aforetime was blind to the Pharisees. ¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. But He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see. ¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he observeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them. ¹⁷ They said therefore unto the blind min, What sayst thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? But He said, He is a prophet. ¹⁸ The Jews did not believe concerning him, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. ¹⁹ And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how therefore doth he now see? ²⁰ His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind: ²¹ But by that means he now seeth, we know not, or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age, ask him, he shall speak for himself. ²² These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any one should confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. ²³ Therefore said his parents, He is of age, ask him. ²⁴ They called again him that was blind, a second time, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner. ²⁵ He answered therefore, Whether he be a sinner I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I had been blind, now I see. ²⁶ They said therefore to him, What did he to thee? and how opened he thine eyes? ²⁷ But he said, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples? ²⁸ But they reviled him, and said Thou art his disciple; We are Moses disciples. ²⁹ We know that God hath spoken unto Moses, and that God heareth not sinners. As for this man, we know not whence he is. ³⁰ The man answered and said, Why, herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and he hath opened mine eyes. ³¹ We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any one be a worshipper of God, and doth his will, him he heareth. ³² From the beginning it has not be heard that any one opened the eyes of one that was born blind. ³³ If this man were not of God he could do nothing. ³⁴ They answered him, and said, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? An they cast him out. ³⁵ And Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and he found him and said, Dost thou believe on the Son of man? ³⁶ He answered, And who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? ³⁷ Jesus answered, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. ³⁸ Be he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him. ³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world: that they who see not, might see; and that they who see, might be made blind. ⁴⁰ But some of the Pharisees who were with him heard, and said unto him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus therefore said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see: therefore your sins remain.

¹⁴ And they said, John the Baptist, some Elias, and others Jeremias, or one of the Prophets.

⁷ And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men Rabbi, Rabbi.

² And Jesus answering, said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galileans, were sinners above all Galileans, because they suffered these things?

³⁴ They answered him, and said, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? An they cast him out.

⁴ And when the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

² And Jesus answering, said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galileans, were sinners above all Galileans, because they suffered these things? ³ I tell you, No; but except ye shall repent, ye shall all likewise perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them: think ye that they were debters above all men that dwell in Jerusalem? ⁵ And I tell you, No; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

⁴ When Jesus heard [that], he said, His sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

⁴⁰ Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?

¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe for the very works sake, ¹² Verily, verily I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do, shall he do also, and greater than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father. ¹³ And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

²¹ So when they had further threatned them, they let them go, not finding a cause why they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done.

³² And he said unto them, Go ye and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out daemons, and I shall do cures to day, and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected. ³³ Nevertheless, I must walk today, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem. ³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto it, how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen her brood under [her] wings, and ye would not?

³⁴ Jesus saith unto them, My food is that I may do the will of him that sent me, and finish his work.

¹⁹ Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily verily, I say unto you, The Son of man cannot do any thing of himself, but what he seeth the father do; for what things soever he shall do, these also doth the Son likewise.

³⁶ But I have a greater testimony than [that] of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that my Father hath sent me.

³² Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from the Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?

³⁷ If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.

⁹ Jesus answered, Hath not the day twelve hours? If any one walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if any one walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is not light in him.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you: walk therefore while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

⁴ I have glorified thee on the earth: And I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and beard.

¹⁰ As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

¹⁶ Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

¹⁶ The people who sat in darkness, saw great light: To them who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

³² A light for a revelation [to the Gentiles] and the glory of thy people Israel.

⁴ And in him was life, and the life is the light of men. ⁵ And the light appeareth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not. ⁶ There was a man sent from God, his name was John, ⁷ He came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all through him might believe. ⁸ He was not the light, but was to bear witness of the light. ⁹ He was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

¹⁹ And this is the judgement, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ For every one that doth evil things hateth the light, lest his deeds should be reproved by the light. ²¹ But he that doth truth, cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

¹² Jesus therefore spake again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you: walk therefore while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. ³⁶ While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.

⁴⁶ I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me, should not abide in darkness.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, Behold I have set thee to be a light to the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn [them] from darkness to light, and[from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in me.

²³ That Christ should suffer, that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and thou shalt lay hold on Christ.

²³ And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb [is] the light thereof.

³³ And he took him aside from the multitude, and he spit, and put his fingers into his ears, and touched his tongue.

²³ And he took the blind mans hand, and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes, and put his hands upon him, he asketh him, If thou seest ought.

¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayst be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayst be clothed, and the shame of thy nakedness may not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayst see.

⁴ Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them: think ye that they were debters above all men that dwell in Jerusalem?

¹¹ He answered, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: I went therefore and washed, and come seeing.

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world: that they who see not, might see; and that they who see, might be made blind.

³⁶ Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, that Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God?

³⁷ But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

³ What the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son, in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

⁴⁶ And he cometh to Jericho: and as he went out thence with his disciples, and a great multitude, blind Bartimeus, the son of Timeus, sat begging by the way-side.

²⁰ But a certain beggar named Lazarus, was laid at his gate full of ulcers. ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich mans table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his ulcers. ²² And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abrahams bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried.

³⁵ And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging,

² And lo a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entred into the temple. ³ He fixing his eyes [on them] and seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, asked an alms of them. ⁴ But Peter looking upon him, with John, said, Fix thine eyes on us. ⁵ And he fixed his eyes on them, expecting to receive something of them. ⁶ Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but what I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Walk. ⁷ And he took him by the right hand, and raised [him] up, and immediately he stood up, and his feet and ankle-bones received strength. ⁸ And he leaping up, stood, and walked, rejoicing, and entered with them into the temple, praising God. ⁹ And all the people saw him walking about and praising God. ¹⁰ And they knew him, that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him. ¹¹ And as Peter and John went out, he went out together with them, taking hold of them. But those that were amazed stood in the cloister called Solomon's.

²⁷ And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.

⁹ Nicodemus answered and said unto him; How can these things be?

¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. But He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

²¹ But by that means he now seeth, we know not, or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age, ask him, he shall speak for himself.

²⁶ They said therefore to him, What did he to thee? and how opened he thine eyes?

³⁵ But some one will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come?

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up the couch and walk. ¹² They asked him: What man is he who said unto thee, Take up thy couch and walk? ¹³ He that was infirm knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.

¹¹ Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?

³ And the scribes and Pharisees brought a woman taken in sin, and when they had set her in the midst. ⁴ The priests say unto him, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him, Master this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. ⁵ But Moses in the law commanded, to stone such women, But what sayst thou now? ⁶ But Jesus stooped down, and with [his] finger wrote on the ground. ⁷ So when they continued asking, he lift up himself and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. ⁸ And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁴⁶ But some of them went to the Pharisees, and told them what Jesus had done. ⁴⁷ Then the chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council together, and said, What do we? This man doth such miracles.

⁵⁷ Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that if any man knew where he were, he should declare [it], that they might seize him.

¹⁹ The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the whole world is gone after him.

⁴² Nevertheless among the chief rulers also, many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess [him], lest they should be put out of the synagogue.

¹ At that time Jesus went on the sabbath-day through the corn, and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. ² But when the Pharisees saw them, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath. ³ But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did when he was hungry, and they that were with him, ⁴ How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shew-bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them who were with him, but only for the priests? ⁵ Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbaths the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? ⁶ For I say unto you, that here is one greater than the temple. ⁷ But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. ⁸ For the Son of man is Lord of the sabbath. ⁹ And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue. ¹⁰ And behold, there was a man there who had his hand withered: and they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbaths? that they might accuse him. ¹¹ But he said unto them, What man is there among you, that shall have one sheep, and is shall fall into a pit on the sabbath, does he not lay hold on it, and lift [it] out? ¹² How much then is a man better than a sheep? wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbaths. ¹³ Then said he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand: and he stretched [it] forth; and it was restored whole, like the other. ¹⁴ Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.

²³ And it came to pass again, that he went through the corn fields on the sabbath, and [his] disciples began as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.

¹ And it came to pass on the first sabbath after the second [day of the passover,] that he went through the cornfields: But his disciples began to pluck the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing with [their] hands. ² But certain of the Pharisees said unto him, see what thy disciples do on the sabbath, which is not lawful. ³ But Jesus answering said unto them, Have ye never read this, what David did, when himself was an hungred, and those with him: ⁴ How he went into the house of God, and did eat the shew-bread, and gave also to them that were with him, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests alone? ⁵ On the same day seeing one working on the sabbath, he said unto him, Man, If thou knowest what thou doest, thou art blessed: But if thou dost not know thou art [cursed,] and art a transgressor of the law. ⁶ And when he entered again into the synagogue on the sabbath, there was a man who had a withered hand, ⁷ The scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal, that they might find to accuse him. ⁸ But he knowing their thoughts, saith to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand in the midst. And he arose, and stood up. ⁹ But Jesus said unto them, I ask you, Is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil?to save life, or to destroy [it]?But they held their peace. ¹⁰ And looking round about upon them all, in anger, he saith unto the man, stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored whole as the other also. And he said unto them, that the son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. ¹¹ And they were filled with madness; and reasoned one with another, how they might destroy him.

¹⁰ And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath, ¹¹ And behold, there was a woman who had an infirmity of spirit eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could not at all lift up[her self]. ¹² And when Jesus saw her, he said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. ¹³ And he laid hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God. ¹⁴ But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, and said, unto the multitude. There are six days in which they ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath-day. ¹⁵ But the Lord Jesus answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite; doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox and ass from the stall, and lead [him] away to watering? ¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath-day? ¹⁷ And, his adversaries were ashamed: and all the multitude rejoyced for all the glorious things, they had seen done by him.

¹ And it came to pass, as he entred into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath, that they watched him.

⁹ And the man was made whole, rose up, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was the sabbath.

¹⁶ And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

²¹ Jesus answered and said, I have done one work, and ye all marvel at it, ²² Moses gave unto you circumcision: not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers: and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man. ²³ If therefore a man on the sabbath receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; how are ye angry at me, because I have perfectly cured a man on the sabbath?

² He came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God : for no one can do these miracles that thou dost except God were with him.

⁵² The Jews therefore strove amonst themselves, saying, How can he give us his flesh to eat?

¹² And there was a murmuring among the multitude concerning him: Some said, He is a good [man]: others said, No; but he deceiveth the people.

⁴³ So there was a division among the multitude because of him.

²⁴ They called again him that was blind, a second time, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

¹⁹ There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings.

¹¹ Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe for the very works sake,

²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else had done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen me, and hated me and my Father.

⁴ But the multitude of the city was divided: and some held with the Jews, and others with the apostles.

¹¹ And many said, This is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth, of Galilee.

¹⁹ But he said unto him; What things? The things concerning Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word, before God and all the people:

¹⁹ The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹⁴ Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that he did, said, This is that prophet that should come into the world.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, aman approved of God among you, by miracles and wonders and signs, all which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye your selves know:

²² Moses truly said unto our fathers, A prophet shall the Lord our God raise up unto you, of our brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. ²³ And it shall come to pass, every soul which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. ²⁴ All the prophets also from Samuel, and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise spoken of these days. ²⁵ Yeare the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ²⁶ Unto you first, God having raised up his Son, sent him forth to bless [you,] in turning away every one from your iniquities.

³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth; whom God anointed with the Holy Ghost, and with power: He went about doing good, and healing all that were brought into subjection by the devil: for God was with him.

³¹ But he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be perswaded, though one rise from the dead, and go away to them.

¹⁹ And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to him to ask him, Who art thou?

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, who receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that is from God only?

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not on him: ³⁸ That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Esaias said, ⁴⁰ He hath blinded [them], that they should not see with [their] eyes, nor understand with [their] heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

¹⁵ While it is said, To-day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. ¹⁶ For some when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. ¹⁷ But with whom was he grieved forty years? [was it] not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? ¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

¹¹ Let us labour therefore, Brethren, to enter into that rest, lest any man fall from the same example of truth.

¹⁰ And they knew him, that it was he who sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.

¹⁴ And beholding the man who had been healed standing with them, they could neither do nor say any thing against [it.]

²² Blessed are ye when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate [you,] and shall reproach [you,] and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of mans sake.

⁴ And I say unto you, my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, and have not any more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom you shall fear: Him who, after he hath killed, hath power to cast into gehenna; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. ⁶ Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? ⁷ But even the very hairs of your head are all numbred. Fear not therefore; for ye are of more value than many sparrows. ⁸ Also I say unto you that, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God. ⁹ But he that denieth me before men, shall be denied before the angels of God.

⁵⁶ A certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This [man] was also with him. ⁵⁷ And he denied, saying, I know him not. ⁵⁸ And a little while after another saw him, and said the same, Thou art also of them: And he said, Man, I am not. ⁵⁹ And about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, Of a truth I say, this [man] also was with him; for he is a Galilean. ⁶⁰ And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayst. And immediately while he yet spake, the cock crew. ⁶¹ But the Lord Jesus turned, and looked upon Peter; and he remembred the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

¹³ Howbeit, no one spake openly of him, for fear of the Jews.

⁴⁵ Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? ⁴⁶ But the officers answered, Never man spake as this man. ⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Does any one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believe on him? ⁴⁹ But this multitude who knoweth not the law, are cursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus saith unto them, being one of them; he that came to Jesus by night, at the first. ⁵¹ Doth our law judge a man before it will hear him, and know what he hath done? ⁵² The answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Behold the scriptures: for out of Galilee hath arisen no prophet.

⁴² Nevertheless among the chief rulers also, many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess [him], lest they should be put out of the synagogue. ⁴³ For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues: But the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth God service.

³⁸ But after these things, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave: And he came and took the body of Jesus.

¹⁹ The same day therefore at evening, being the first [day] of the week, and when the doors were shut, where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace [be] unto you.

¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.

¹³ And of the rest durst noone join himself to them: but the people magnified them.

⁴⁰ And to him they submitted: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten [them,] they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go.

¹¹ But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. ¹² For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew, and separated himself, fearing them who were of the circumcision. ¹³ And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

⁸ But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

²⁷ And with him were crucified two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on the left.

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had bidden him, saw [it,] he spake within himself, saying, This [man],if he were a prophet, would have known who, and what manner of woman [this is] that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.

² And both the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying that, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

⁷ And when they saw [it], they all murmured, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

²³ That all should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, neither honoureth he the Father who hath sent him.

⁴⁶ --

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a daemon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me.

¹⁶ Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he observeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.

³⁰ Hereafter I will not talk many things to you: for the prince of the world cometh, and hath nothing to find in me.

³⁰ They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

⁶ When the chief priests therefore and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucifie, crucifie him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him and crucifie him; for I find no fault in him.

² For I bear them record, that they have a Zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. ⁴ For Christ [is] the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

²¹ He hath made him sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up the couch and walk.

³⁰ The man answered and said, Why, herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and he hath opened mine eyes.

¹⁰ He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the record in himself: he that believeth not the Son hath made himself a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

⁶⁷ Saying, Art thou the Christ? But he said unto them, If I tell you, you will not believe.

¹⁰ Therefore said they unto him, How then were thine eyes opened? ¹¹ He answered, A man that is called Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: I went therefore and washed, and come seeing. ¹² Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said to them, I know not. ¹³ And they bring him that aforetime was blind to the Pharisees. ¹⁴ And it was the sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. ¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. But He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall persecute and revile you, and shall say all manner of evil against you for my sake.

³⁹ And they that passed by, reviled him, wagging their head,

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father; there is that accuseth you, Moses, in whom ye have trusted. ⁴⁶ For had ye believed Moses, ye would also have believed me: for he wrote of me.

⁴⁶ But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the law? and none of you keepeth the law, Why do ye seek to kill me?

¹¹ They suborned men who said, We have heard him speak blasphemies against Moses, and God. ¹² And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon [him,] and caught him, and brought [him] to the council, ¹³ And set up false witnesses against him, who said, This Man ceaseth not to speak words against the holy place, and the law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered us.

¹⁷ But if thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God;

¹² And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless: being persecuted, we suffer it:

¹⁰ Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God:

²³ Who when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatned not; but committed [himself] to him that judgeth righteously;

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard [it], they said, This man doth not cast out dæmons but by Beelzebub, the prince of the dæmons.

⁶¹ And said we have heard this man say, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

² And they began to accuse him, saying. We have found this [man] perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, but saying, that he himself is Christ, the king.

¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth by Jesus Christ.

²⁷ But we know him whence he is: but when Christ shall come, no one knoweth whence he is.

⁴¹ Others said, He is the Christ. Some said, doe the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Does not the scripture say, that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of my self, my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, or whither I go.

³⁵ This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? the same did God send both a ruler and a deliverer, with the hand of an angel who appeared to him in the bush.

²² And they hearkened as far as this word, and lift up their voice, and said, Take away such an one from the earth: for it is not fit he should live.

²² Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great; saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

² Who was faithful to him that made him, as also [was] Moses in all his house. ³ For he was counted worthy of more glory than [Moses], inasmuch as he who hath builded the house, hath more honour than the house. ⁴ For every house is builded by some one; but he that built all things [is] God. ⁵ And Moses verily [was] faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

⁶ And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching,

²² Then Jesus answering, said unto them, Go and tell John what things your eyes have seen, and your ears have heard; that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to [them]:

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

³⁷ But though he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not on him:

⁶ For God commanded the light to shine out of darkness, [and] hath shined in our hearts, to illuminate the knowledge of his glory, in the person of Jesus Christ.

¹⁷ If any one will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or I speak of my self.

⁴¹ They therefore took away the stone, and Jesus lift up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. ⁴² I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people who stand by, I said [it], that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

¹⁶ Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and appointed you, that you should go and bring forth much fruit, and your fruit should remain; that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

⁷ Then said I, Lo, I come, For in the volume of the book it is written of me, to do thy will, O God.

¹⁵ And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. ¹⁶ Confess therefore [your] sins one to another, pray one for another, that ye may be healed: The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. ¹⁷ Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. ¹⁸ And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

²¹ Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, we have confidence towards God. ²² And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

⁷⁰ Ashe spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began;

¹⁸ And there were lightnings, voices, and thunders, and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since man was upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, so great.

³⁸ And now, Brethren, I say unto you. Refrain from these men, and let them alone, without defiling your hands: for if this counsel, or this work be of men, it will come to nought: ³⁹ But if it be of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; neither you, nor kings, nor tyrants. Abstain therefore from these men; lest haply ye be found to be fighters against God.

¹⁷ And if he shall refuse to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he refuse to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man, and as a publican. ¹⁸ Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth, shall be bound in the heavens: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in the heavens.

⁴⁵ But one of the lawyers, answered and said, unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.

¹¹ For whosoever exalteth himself, shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

¹⁰ Two men went up to the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, and one a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed thus, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I posses. ¹³ And the publican standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down justified [rather] than that Pharisee: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

¹⁷ For Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein.

³⁷ All that the Father giveth me, will come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise cast away.

⁴⁸ Does any one of the rulers or of the Pharisees believe on him? ⁴⁹ But this multitude who knoweth not the law, are cursed.

⁴¹ But ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, God,

² And the disciples asked him, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

³⁵ And Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and he found him and said, Dost thou believe on the Son of man?

⁴⁰ But some of the Pharisees who were with him heard, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

⁴ In the name of our Lord Jesus, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, ⁵ To deliver such an one unto Satan, for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved to the day of the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹³ But them that are without, God judgeth. Therefore put away from among your selves that wicked person.

¹⁵ We Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles;

³ Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh, and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

⁵ Likewise ye younger, submit your selves unto the elder: yea, and all one with another, be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

⁹ I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the pre-eminence among them, receiveth us not.

¹⁷ And that no man might buy or sell save he that had the mark, the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

³³ Then they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

¹⁶ And Simon Peter answered and said unto him: Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.

¹ THE beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God,

¹⁸ No one hath Seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

³⁴ And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel. ⁵⁰ Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou wilt see a greater thing than these.

¹⁵ That every one who believeth in him, should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God hath so loved the world, that he hath given his only begotten Son, that every one who believeth on him, should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God sent not his Son unto the world to judge the world; but that the world through him might be saved. ¹⁸ He that believeth on him shall not be judged: but he that believeth not, is judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.

³⁶ That he who believeth on the Son, may have eternal life: But he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole; sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

⁶⁹ And we have believed, and have known thee, that thou art the Holy One of God.

²⁷ She saith Yes, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Christ the Son of God who should come into the world.

²⁸ Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord, and my God.

³¹ But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that believing ye might have eternal life in his name.

³⁶ And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the Eunuch said, See water, what doth forbid me to be baptized?

²⁰ And straightway he preached Jesus in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

⁴ And fore ordained the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

²⁰ But Esaias saith, I was found in them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

² Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages. ³ Who being a beam of his glory, and the express image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: ⁴ Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. ⁵ For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? ⁶ And when he bringeth in again the first-begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. ⁷ And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. ⁸ But unto the Son, Thy throne, O God, [it] for ever and ever; and a sceptre of righteousness the sceptre of thy kingdom: ⁹ Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God thy God hath annointed thee with the oyl of gladness above thy fellows.

¹⁵ Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

⁵ Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹³ These things have I written unto you that ye may know that you who believe on the name of the Son of God have eternal life; and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding that we may know the true God: and we are in him that is true, in his Son. This is the true God, and eternal life.

³ And said unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

³⁸ Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith onto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, which is to say, being interpreted, Master, where dwellest thou?

¹⁴ How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid there things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes,

¹¹ He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. ¹² For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away, even that he hath.

²⁶ Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee, am [he].

²¹ He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father: and I will love him, and will manifest my self to him. ²² Judas saith unto him, not Scarioth, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thy self unto us, and not unto the world? ²³ Jesus answered and said unto him, If any one love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and I will come unto him, and make my abode with him.

³¹ And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance before God. ³² Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon whose sirname is Peter; he lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the sea; who when he cometh, shall speak unto thee. ³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee, beseeching thee to come to us. But thou hastwell done that thou art come quickly. Now lo we are all here present before thee, desiring to hear from thee the things that are commanded thee of God.

⁹ And behold, Jesus met them, saying Hail. And they came, and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

¹⁷ And when they saw him, they worshipped: but some doubted.

⁵² And they returned to Jerusalem with great joy.

⁹ And they sing a new song, saying, That thou art worthy to take the book, and to [open] the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed [them] to God by thy blood, out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; ¹⁰ And hast made them a kingdom and priest: and they shall reign on the earth. ¹¹ And I beheld, and Iheard the voice of many angels round about the throne, and the animals, and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; ¹² Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, [to] receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength and honour, and glory, and blessing. ¹³ And every creature which [is] in heaven, and on the earth, and such as [are] in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I, saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, [and] unto the Lamb for ever and ever! ¹⁴ And the four animals said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped.

²³ But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹³ Therefore spake he to them in parables: that seeing, they might not see: and hearing, they might not hear, neither mind it, lest they shall be converted. ¹⁴ And then shall be fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, Go and tell this People, by hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive. ¹⁵ For this peoples heart is waxed gross and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with [their] eyes, and hear with [their] ears, and should mind it with [their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

⁷⁹ To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

³⁴ And Symeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this [child] is set for the fall and for the rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be contradicted.

¹⁸ The spirit of the Lord [is] upon me, because he hath anointed me; I am sent to preach the gospel to the poor, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

²¹ And in that same hour he cured many of infirmities, and plagues, and of evil spirits, [and] he made the blind to see.

³⁴ The light of thy body is the eye; When thine eye is single, thy whole body also is light: but when it is evil, thy body also is dark. ³⁵ If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness?

³⁰ And behold, there are last who shall be first, and there are first who shall be last.

¹⁷ For God sent not his Son unto the world to judge the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

¹⁹ And this is the judgement, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

²² For the Father judgeth no man; but hath given all judgment unto the Son; ²³ That all should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, neither honoureth he the Father who hath sent him. ²⁴ Verily verily I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath eternal life, and shall not come into judgement; but is passed from death unto life. ²⁵ Verily verily I say unto you, That the hour cometh and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the living Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself: ²⁷ And hath given him authority to execute judgement, because he is the Son of man.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no one.

²⁵ He answered therefore, Whether he be a sinner I know not: one thing I know, that whereas I had been blind, now I see.

³⁶ He answered, And who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? ³⁷ Jesus answered, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. ³⁸ Be he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

⁴⁰ He hath blinded [them], that they should not see with [their] eyes, nor understand with [their] heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. ⁴¹ But these things said Esaias, when he saw the glory of God there, and spake of him.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded: ⁸ According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this day. ⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a share, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompence unto them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkned, that they may not see, and bow down their back alway.

¹⁶ To the one the savour of death unto death; and to the other, the savour of life unto life: and who [is] sufficient for these things?

⁴ In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them who believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine. ⁵ For we preach not our selves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and our selves your servants for Jesus sake. ⁶ For God commanded the light to shine out of darkness, [and] hath shined in our hearts, to illuminate the knowledge of his glory, in the person of Jesus Christ.

¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness, in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth of Christ, that they might be saved.

⁹ But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the virtues of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

¹¹ But he that hateth his brother, is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

¹² Then came his disciples, and said unto him, knowest thou that the Pharisees were scandalized after they heard this saying? ¹³ But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let these that are blind alone: they be blind leaders. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

¹⁶ Wo unto you, ye blind guides, who say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debter. ¹⁷ Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold or the temple that hath sanctified the gold? ¹⁸ And whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoever sweareth by he gold that is upon it, he is a debter. ¹⁹ Ye fools and blind: for whether [is] greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? ²⁰ Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whoso shall have sworn by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that hath dwelt therein. ²² And he that shall have sworn by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. ²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Wo unto you scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that within the cup, that the outside of it may be clean also. ²⁷ Wo unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye are like unto whited sepulchres. The sepulchre appears beautiful outward, but is within full of dead mens bones, and of all uncleanness. ²⁸ Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisie and iniquity.

³⁹ But the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees Hypocrites make clean the outside of the cup and the platter: but your inside is full of ravening and wickedness. ⁴⁰ Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without, make that which is within also? ⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as you have: and behold, all things shall be clean unto you. ⁴² But wo unto you, Pharisees: for ye tithe mint and rue, and every herb, and pass over judgment, and the love of God. ⁴³ Wo unto you, O ye Pharisees: for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets: and the highest places at feasts. ⁴⁴ Wo unto you, O ye scribes and Pharisees; for ye are graves which appear not, and the men that walk over [them,] know it not. ⁴⁵ But one of the lawyers, answered and said, unto him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also. ⁴⁶ And he said, Wo unto you also, lawyers: for ye burden men with burdens grievous to be born, and ye your selves touch them not with one of your fingers. ⁴⁷ Wo unto you: for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Bear ye therefore witness that ye do not allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, but ye build [their sepulchres.] ⁴⁹ Therefore I send them prophets and apostles, and [some] of them they will slay and persecute: ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which hath been shed from the foundation of the world, unto this generation may be required; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, the Son of Barachias whom they slew between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, it shall be required of this generation. ⁵² Wo unto you lawyers: for ye have hidden the key of knowledge: and ye entred not in your selves, and them that were entring in, ye hindred. ⁵³ And as [he] said these things unto them, before all the people, the Pharisees and lawyers began to urge [him] vehemently, and to confer with him about many things: ⁵⁴ Seeking to obtain some occasion against him, that they might have wherewith to accuse him.

¹⁹ And art confident that thou thy self art a guide of the blind, a light of them who are in darkness, ²⁰ An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, who hast the form of knowledge, and of the truth in the law. ²¹ Thou therefore who teachest another, teachest thou not thy self? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? ²² Thou that sayst a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?

¹⁷ Because thou sayst, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his lords will, but did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many [stripes.]

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down justified [rather] than that Pharisee: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

²² If I had not come, and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. ²³ He that hateth me, hateth my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else had done, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen me, and hated me and my Father.

²⁶ For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there is not another sacrifice left still to be offered.

⁸ If we say we have no sin, we deceive our selves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
