¹ Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things of which we have the fullest evidence. ² Even as they delivered them unto us, who from the beginning were eye witnesses, and ministers of the word: ³ It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, ⁴ That thou mightst know the certainty of those things wherein thou hast been catechised. ⁵ THERE was in the days of Herod the king of Judea,a certain priest name Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife [was] of the daughters of Aaron, and her name [was] Elisabeth. ⁶ Now they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless. ⁷ And they had no child, because Elisabeth was barren; and both were advanced in their days. ⁸ Now it came to pass, that while he executed the priests office before God in the order of his course, ⁹ According to the custom of the priests office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of God. ¹⁰ And the whole multitude of the people were praying without, at the hour of incense. ¹¹ But there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. ¹² And when Zacharias saw [him], he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. ¹³ And the angel said unto him, Fear not Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear a son, and thou shalt call his name John. ¹⁴ And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoyce at his birth. ¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mothers womb. ¹⁶ And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. ¹⁸ And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife advanced in her days. ¹⁹ And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel that stand in the presence of God: and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings. ²⁰ And behold, thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season. ²¹ And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple. ²² And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckned unto them, and remained speechless. ²³ And it came to pass, that assoon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he then departed to his own house. ²⁴ And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid her self five months, saying, ²⁵ That thus hath the Lord done to me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men. ²⁶ And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God, unto a city of Galilee, whose name was Nazaret, ²⁷ To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgins name [was] Mary. ²⁸ And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail thou that art highly favoured, the Lord [is] with thee: blessed [art] thou among women. ²⁹ And she was troubled at the saying, and considered in her self what sort of salutation this should be. ³⁰ And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: For thou hast found favour with God. ³¹ And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest;and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father. ³³ And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. ³⁴ And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? ³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee, shall be called the Son of God. ³⁶ And behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is her sixth month who was called barren. ³⁷ For with God nothing shall be impossible. ³⁸ And Mary said, Behold the servant of the Lord, be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. ³⁹ And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda. ⁴⁰ And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabet. ⁴¹ And it came to pass, that when Elisabet heard the Salutation of Mary, and Elisabet's babe leaped in her womb, and Elisabet was filled with the Holy Ghost. ⁴² And she cried out with, a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb. ⁴³ And whence [is] this to me, that the mother of [my] Lord should come to me? ⁴⁴ For lo, when the voice of thy salutation came to mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. ⁴⁵ And blessed [is] she that hath believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord. ⁴⁶ And Mary said, My soul doth magnifie the Lord, ⁴⁷ And my spirit hath rejoyced in God my Saviour. ⁴⁸ For the Lord hath regarded the low estate of his servant, for behold, from henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed. ⁴⁹ For God that is mighty hath done to [me] great things, and holy [is] his name. ⁵⁰ And his mercy [is] on them that fear him, from generation to generation. ⁵¹ He hath shewed strength with his arm, he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He hath put down the mighty from [their] seats, and exalted them of low degree. ⁵³ He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty. ⁵⁴ He hath holpen his servant Israel, to remember [his] mercy, ⁵⁵ As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. ⁵⁶ And Mary abode with her three months, and returned to her own house. ⁵⁷ Now Elisabets full time came, that she should be delivered;and she brought forth a son. ⁵⁸ And her neighbours and her kinsfolks heard how the Lord had magnifyed his mercy to her;and they rejoyced with her. ⁵⁹ And it came to pass, that on the eight day they came to circumcise the child;and they called him, after the name of his father, Zacharias. ⁶⁰ And his mother answered and said, No, but his name shall be called John. ⁶¹ And they said unto her, That there it none of thy kindred that is called by this name. ⁶² And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called. ⁶³ And he asked for a writing-table, and wrote, His name is John. And his tongue was loosed: And they marvelled all. ⁶⁴ And his mouth was opened, and he spake, praising God, ⁶⁵ And great fear came on all that dwelt round about him: and all these saying, were publickly talked of abroad throughout all the hill-country of Judea. ⁶⁶ And all they that heard it laid [it] up in their hearts, saying, What then shall this child be ?For the hand of the Lord [was] also with him. ⁶⁷ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, ⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, for he hath visited and redeemed his people, ⁶⁹ And hath raised an horn of salvation for us, in the house of David his Servant; ⁷⁰ Ashe spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began; ⁷¹ Salvation from the hand of our enemies, and of all that hate us. ⁷² To perform the mercy to our fathers, to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, ⁷⁴ To grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him, all our days. ⁷⁶ But thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest;for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, to prepare his ways; ⁷⁷ To give knowledge of salvation unto his people, in the remission of their sins. ⁷⁸ Through the bowels of the mercy of our God;whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us, ⁷⁹ To enlighten them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. ⁸⁰ Now the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing into Israel.

³¹ But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and that believing ye might have eternal life in his name.

¹ THE former Treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach. ² Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the holy Ghost, had given commandment to preach the Gospel unto the apostles, whom he had chosen. ³ To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

¹⁶ And without controversy, great is the mystery [of the word]of godliness: who was manifested in the flesh, justified in Spirit, seen of angels, preached among Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory.

¹⁷ Notwithstanding, the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

¹⁶ For we have not folowed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eye witnesses of his majesty. ¹⁷ For he received from God the Father, honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory. This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. ¹⁸ And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. ¹⁹ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do dwell that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

¹ THE beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God,

¹⁴ The sower soweth the word.

⁴⁸ And ye are also witnesses of these things.

²⁷ And bear ye witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

³ To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

⁸ But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

²¹ Wherefore of these men who have companied with us, all the time that the Lord Jesus Christ went in and out among us. ²² Beginning from the baptism of John, until the day that he was taken up from us, must one of these be appointed to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

²⁰ For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and beard.

³⁹ And we [are] his witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; and they slew [him,] and hanged [him] on a tree: ⁴⁰ Him God raised up the third day, and granted him to be made manifest: ⁴¹ Not to all the people, but to witnesses, chosen before of God, to us, who did eat and drink and converse with him after [he] arose from the dead forty days.

¹⁶ But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee;

¹⁶ That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministring the Gospel of God; that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

¹ Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

⁷ Whereof I have been made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me, by the effectual working of his power. ⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ.

¹¹ And he hath given some, apostles: and some, prophets: and some, evangelists: and some, pastors and teachers; ¹² For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

²³ If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, which was preached to all the creation that is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister. ²⁴ Who now rejoice in sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh, for his body's sake, who is the church: ²⁵ Whereof I am made a minister according to the dispensation of God, which is given to me for you, fully to preach the word of God;

³ How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation? which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard [him];

¹ The elders therefore who are among you I exhort, who am a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

¹⁶ For we have not folowed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eye witnesses of his majesty.

¹ THAT which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled of the word of life; ² For the life was manifested, and we have seen [it], and bear witness, and shew unto you also that eternal life which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us. ³ That which we have seen and heard, declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

⁴ But Peter beginning, expounded it in order unto them, saying,

¹⁹ Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them who from among the Gentiles are turned to God;

²⁵ It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send out chosen men unto you, with your beloved Barnabas and Paul;

²⁸ For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no other burden than these necessary things;

²⁶ Claudius Lysias, unto the most excellent governor Felix, greeting.

³ We accept [it] always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

²⁵ But Paul said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness.

⁴⁰ But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the spirit of God.

¹² As touching our brother Apollos, I declare unto you that I greatly desired him to come unto you, with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.

²⁵ Who was instructed in his own country in the word of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of Jesus, knowing only the baptism of John.

¹⁸ And knowest [his] will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law,

¹⁹ Yet in the church I had rather speak five words by my mind, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

⁶ Let him that is taught in the word, communicate unto him that teacheth in all [his] goods.

¹⁵ Moreover, I will endeavour, that you may be able after my decease, to have these things always in remembrance. ¹⁶ For we have not folowed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eye witnesses of his majesty.

¹ Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise-men from the east to Jerusalem,

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Ye are they who justifie your selves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is high amongst men, [is] abomination in the sight of God.

¹ And Paul earnestly beholding the council, said, Men, brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God, until this day.

¹⁶ And herein do I exercise my self to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

⁹ What then have we before [them] that is extraordinary? Nothing at all: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; ¹⁰ As it is written, there is none righteous, not one: ¹¹ There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. ¹² They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable, there is none that doeth good, no not one. ¹³ Their throat [is] an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps [is] under their lips: ¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. ¹⁵ Their feet [are] swift to shed blood. ¹⁶ Destruction and misery [are] in their ways: ¹⁷ And the way of peace have they not known. ¹⁸ There is no fear of God before their eyes. ¹⁹ Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. ²⁰ Therefore by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. ²¹ But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; ²² Even the righteousness of God by faith of Jesus Christ unto all, and upon all them that believe; for there is no difference: ²³ For all have sinned; and come short of the glory of God; ²⁴ Being justified freely by his grace, through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ: ²⁵ Whom God hath set forth a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that were formerly through the forbearance of God;

² Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things, and keep my traditions, as I delivered [them] to you.

¹² For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-wards.

¹⁵ That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom shine ye as lights in the world;

⁶ Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless, ⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss, for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung that I may win Christ, ⁹ And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

²² In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable, and unreproveable in his sight:

¹³ To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints. Amen.

¹¹ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation, hath appeared to all men: ¹² Teaching us, that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; ¹³ Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ: ¹⁴ Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

³ For we our selves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, [and] hating one another. ⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ Not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us by the washing of regeneration, and renewing by the Holy Ghost; ⁶ Which he shed on us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour: ⁷ That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

¹⁴ Wherefore, Beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent, that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless:

³ And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one also that doeth righteousness, is born of him.

⁷ Little children let not any one deceive you: He that doth righteousness, is righteous, even as he is righteous:

¹⁹ And being not weak in the faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's Womb.

¹¹ Through faith also the barren Sara her self received strength to conceive a child, when she was past age; because she judged him faithful who had promised.

⁶ Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests go always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing [their] service.

¹⁴ Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast [our] profession.

²⁴ For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, the figures of the true; but into heaven it self, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

³ And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer [it] with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne.

¹⁹ And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel that stand in the presence of God: and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

³ He saw in a vision evidently, about the ninth hour of the day, an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. ⁴ And stedfastly looking on him, and being much affrighted, he said, What is it, Lord?And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministring spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

³ And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer [it] with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. ⁴ And the smoke of the incense with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God, out of the angels hand.

¹³ And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the horns of the golden altar, which is before God.

⁵ And entring into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead: and he laid his right hand upon me, saying. Fear not; I am the first begotten, and the last:

²¹ And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

²⁷ But straightway he spake unto them, saying, Be of good courage, It is I, be not afraid.

⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified.

⁶ And the Angel saith unto them, Be not affrighted: ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified: he is risen, he is not here: behold his place where they laid him.

³⁶ And as they thus spake, he himself stood in the midst of the disciples. ³⁷ But they were terrifyed and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. ³⁸ But he said unto them, Why are ye troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? ³⁹ Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I my self: handle me and see, for a spirit hath not bones and flesh as ye see me have. ⁴⁰ --

³¹ And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance before God.

⁹ But what went ye out to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. ¹⁰ This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee. ¹¹ Verily I say unto you, among them that are born of women, there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of heaven, is greater than he. ¹² And from the days of John the Baptist, until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. ¹³ For all the prophets, and the law prophesied until John. ¹⁴ And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias who was to come. ¹⁵ He that hath ears, let him hear. ¹⁶ But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like to children sitting in the market, who calling unto their fellows, ¹⁷ Say, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced: we have mourned, and ye have not lamented. ¹⁸ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a dæmon. ¹⁹ The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man gluttonous and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners: and wisdom is justified of her children.

²⁸ But I say unto you, He that is least in the kingdom of God, is greater than he.

³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating, nor drinking, and ye say, He hath a daemon.

³⁵ He was a burning and shining light; and ye were willing for a season to rejoyce in his light.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

¹⁴ Then Peter standing up with the ten Apostles, first lift up his voice, and said unto them thus, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, [and] hearken to my words: ¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. ¹⁶ But this is that which was spoken by the prophet. ¹⁷ It shall come to pass in the last days, saith the Lord, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and their sons and their daughters shall prophesy, and the young men shall see visions, and the old men shall dream dreams: ¹⁸ And on my servants, and on my handmaidens I will pour out of my Spirit:

¹⁵ But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mothers womb, and called [me] by his grace,

¹⁸ And be not drunken with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit:

¹ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² And saying, Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this it he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. ⁴ And the same John had his raiment of camels hair, and a leathern girdle about his loyns; and his meat was locusts, and wild honey. ⁵ Then went out to him Jerusalem and all Judea, and all the region about Jordan, ⁶ And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

³² For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him. And ye when ye had seen [it], repented [not] afterward, that ye might believe him.

⁷⁶ But thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest;for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, to prepare his ways;

⁴ And the same John had his raiment of camels hair, and a leathern girdle about his loyns; and his meat was locusts, and wild honey.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruit meet for repentance. ⁹ And think not to say within your selves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of there stones to raise up children unto Abraham. ¹⁰ Now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry: he will baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and fire. ¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into his garner: but he will burn up the chaff with unquenched fire.

¹⁴ And if ye will receive [it], this is Elias who was to come.

⁴ For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.

¹¹ And he answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall come, [and] shall restore all things: ¹² But I say you, that Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they wished.

²⁹ He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented and went into the vineyard. ³⁰ But he came to the other, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, Sir; and went not. ³¹ Whether of them two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, that the publicans and harlots go ito the kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him. And ye when ye had seen [it], repented [not] afterward, that ye might believe him.

¹¹ And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes, Elias must first come? ¹² And he answered and said to them, If Elias cometh first, he will restore all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. ¹³ I say unto you, that Elias is come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they would, as it is written of him.

¹⁶ And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

⁷ But he said to the multitude that came forth to be baptized before him, ye brood of vipers, who hath [s]hewed you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within your selves, We have Abraham for [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise children unto Abraham. ⁹ But the ax is already laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruits, is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ¹⁰ And the multitudes asked him, saying, What therefore shall we do, that we may be saved? ¹¹ He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. ¹² But the publican, came in like manner to be baptized, and said unto him, Master, what shall we do, that we may be saved? ¹³ But he said unto them, Exact no more than what is appointed you to exact. ¹⁴ And the soldiers also demanded saying, What shall we do that we may be saved?But he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse falsly, and be content with your allowances.

¹³ They were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, not of the will of man, but of God.

²¹ And they asked him, What then. Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No. ²² Then said they unto him, Who are thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us: what sayst thou of thy self? ²³ He said I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias ²⁴ And they who were sent, were of the Pharisees. ²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not the Christ, nor Elias, neither the prophet? ²⁶ John, answered them, saying I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; ²⁷ He it is, who coming after me, was made before me, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to unloose. ²⁸ These things were done in Bethany (Read: Bethabara) beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. ²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world. ³⁰ This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who is made before me: for he was before me.

³⁴ And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

²⁸ Ye your selves bear me witness, that I said, I [am] not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

³³ Immediately therefore I sent to thee, beseeching thee to come to us. But thou hastwell done that thou art come quickly. Now lo we are all here present before thee, desiring to hear from thee the things that are commanded thee of God.

²³ And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory?

⁹ Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, ¹⁰ Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God: ¹¹ And such were some of you: but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and by the Spirit of our God.

¹² Giving thanks unto the Father, who hath called us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:

²¹ If a man therefore purge himself from those, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, meet for the masters use, prepared unto every good work.

⁹ But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the virtues of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

¹¹ Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in holy conversation and godliness, ¹² Looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? ¹³ Nevertheless we look for new heavens and a new earth, and his promises, wherein dwellet righteousness. ¹⁴ Wherefore, Beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent, that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless:

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him; that if he shall appear, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

⁴ And I saw thrones, and they satupon them, and judgment was given unto them: and the souls of them that had been conquered in war, for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the wild beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon [their] forehead, and in their Hand; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

⁷ And they had no child, because Elisabeth was barren; and both were advanced in their days.

³⁴ And Mary said unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

¹⁰ See that ye despise not one of these little ones that believe on me; for I say unto you, that their angels in the heavens do always behold the face of my Father who is in the heavens.

²⁶ And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God, unto a city of Galilee, whose name was Nazaret,

¹⁹ And he answered them, and saith, O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you? how long must I suffer you? bring him unto me.

¹⁴ But afterward he appeared unto the eleven, as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief, and hardness of heart, because they believed not them who had seen him after he was risen.

²² And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckned unto them, and remained speechless.

⁴⁵ And blessed [is] she that hath believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

³ For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

¹³ If we believe not, he abideth faithful; he cannot deny himself.

² In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before eternal ages;

¹⁸ That with two immutable things, in which [it was] impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

¹⁹ As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.

⁶² And they made signs to his father, what he would have him called.

²⁴ Simon Peter therefore beckned to him, to ask who he should be of whom he spake.

¹⁷ But he beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, he came in, and declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go, shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed and went into another place.

³³ And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. Alexander therefore beckned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

⁴⁰ And when the chief captain had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckned with the hand unto them: and when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying,

¹³ And the angel said unto him, Fear not Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

²³ And he came and dwelt in a City called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken [Read, by the prophet Jeremias, from Luk. II. 39. + old MSS.] by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into the land of Juda, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem:

⁴⁵ Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him of whom Moses did write in the law, and the prophets; Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Josephs. ⁴⁶ And Nathaniel said unto him, can any good thing be from Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, come and see.

⁴¹ Others said, He is the Christ. Some said, doe the Christ come out of Galilee?

¹⁶ And Jacob begat Joseph to whom the Virgin Mary was espoused, and bare Jesus Christ.

¹⁸ Now the generation of Christ was on this wise, When as Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with Child of the Holy Ghost.

²⁰ But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost: ²¹ And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

²³ Behold a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted, is, God with us.

⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into the land of Juda, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: ⁵ To be enrolled with Mary who was espoused to him;being great with child; because he was of the house and family of David.

⁴⁸ But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? or who are my brethren?

⁴² And she cried out with, a loud voice, and said, Blessed [art] thou among women, and blessed [is] the fruit of thy womb.

²⁷ And it came to pass as he was speaking these things, a certain woman of the company lift up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed [is] the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou had sucked. ²⁸ But he said, Yea, rather blessed [are] they indeed that hear the word of God and keep it.

¹⁰ For I am with thee, and no man shall set [on thee],to hurt thee: for I have much people In this city.

⁶ To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in his beloved Son.

⁴⁹ But when they saw him walking upon the sea, they supposed it had been an apparition, and they all cried out, ⁵⁰ And were terrifyed, And he talked [with them], and saying, Be of good cheer, it is I, be not afraid.

⁵ And entring into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. ⁶ And the Angel saith unto them, Be not affrighted: ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified: he is risen, he is not here: behold his place where they laid him.

¹² And when Zacharias saw [him], he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

⁶⁶ And all they that heard it laid [it] up in their hearts, saying, What then shall this child be ?For the hand of the Lord [was] also with him.

¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

⁵¹ And he went down with them, to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: And his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

¹⁷ Now when Peter was come to himself, he doubted what this vision which he had seen should mean; And behold the men who were sent from Cornelius had asked for Simon's house, and stood before the gate.

³² Fear not, little flock; for it is your Fathers good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

⁹ And the Lord spake to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace: ¹⁰ For I am with thee, and no man shall set [on thee],to hurt thee: for I have much people In this city.

²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cesar: and lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee.

³¹ What shall we then say to there things? if God [be] for us, who is against us?

⁶ So that we may boldly say, The Lord [is] my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

²⁵ And knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son; and he called his name Jesus.

²⁷ To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgins name [was] Mary.

⁴ But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

¹ THE book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance; but he that cometh after me, is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to carry: he will baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and fire.

⁴² The queen of the south shall rise up in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost part of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here.

¹⁸ And Jesus came, and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and on earth.

⁷ And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

⁶¹ But he held his peace, and answered nothing. The high priest said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mothers womb.

³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee, shall be called the Son of God.

¹⁶ He knowing their thoughts said, I baptize you unto repentance in water; but he that cometh is mightier than I, the latchet of his shoe I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you in the Holy Ghost and fire.

³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, desponding nothing: and your reward shall be great and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful, and the evil.

³⁵ The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. ³⁶ That he who believeth on the Son, may have eternal life: But he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickneth [them]; even so the Son quickneth whom he will. ²² For the Father judgeth no man; but hath given all judgment unto the Son; ²³ That all should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son, neither honoureth he the Father who hath sent him. ²⁴ Verily verily I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath eternal life, and shall not come into judgement; but is passed from death unto life. ²⁵ Verily verily I say unto you, That the hour cometh and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live. ²⁶ For as the living Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself: ²⁷ And hath given him authority to execute judgement, because he is the Son of man. ²⁸ Marvel not at this; for the hour cometh in which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice. ²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that do evil, unto the resurrection of condemnation.

⁶⁹ And we have believed, and have known thee, that thou art the Holy One of God.

³⁴ The multitude answered him, We have heard out of the law, that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, that The Son of man must be lift up? Who is therefore this Son of man?

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his heart* (*read loins), according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ, and to place him on his throne.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that Jesus whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

⁴⁸ Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in places made with hands as saith the prophet,

¹⁷ She followed Paul, and us,and cried, saying, These are the servants of the most high God, who preach unto you the way of salvation.

⁴ And fore ordained the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

²⁰ Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly [places], ²¹ Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in that which is to come: ²² And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him the head over all things to the church, ²³ Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

⁹ Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: ¹⁰ That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth; ¹¹ And that every tongue should confess, that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

² Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages. ³ Who being a beam of his glory, and the express image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: ⁴ Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. ⁵ For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? ⁶ And when he bringeth in again the first-begotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. ⁷ And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. ⁸ But unto the Son, Thy throne, O God, [it] for ever and ever; and a sceptre of righteousness the sceptre of thy kingdom:

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia, write, These things saith he that is true, he that is holy, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no one shutteth, and shutteth and no one openeth.

⁶ Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For all that are of Israel, are not Israelites.

²⁴ Then is the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule, and all authority, and power. ²⁵ For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

²⁹ And if ye be one in Christ Jesus, then indeed are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

¹⁶ And as many as walk according to this rule, peace [be] on them, and mercy, [and] upon the Israel of God.

³ For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh:

⁸ But unto the Son, Thy throne, O God, [it] for ever and ever; and a sceptre of righteousness the sceptre of thy kingdom:

¹⁵ And the seventh angel sounded, and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of this world is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of his Christ, and he shall reign for ever and ever.

⁴ And I saw thrones, and they satupon them, and judgment was given unto them: and the souls of them that had been conquered in war, for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the wild beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon [their] forehead, and in their Hand; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. ⁵ The rest of the dead lived not until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection. ⁶ Blessed and holy [is] he that hath part in the first resurrection; on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God, and of Christ, and they reign with him a thousand years.

³ And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall serve him. ⁴ And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads. ⁵ And there shall be no night any more, and they shall not have need of the light of a candle, and the light of the sun; for the Lord God will give them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

⁶ And he trembling and astonished, said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord [said] unto him. Arise and go into the city, and it shall be told thee there what thou must do.

²⁰ But while he thought on these things, behold the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife; for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost:

³ And the tempter came to him, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

³³ Then they that were in the ship, came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. The high priest therefore answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us, whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. ⁶⁴ Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: moreover I say unto you, that hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁵⁴ Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son God.

²⁴ Saying, What have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one of God.

³¹ And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest;and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father.

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the King of Israel.

³⁶ And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the Eunuch said, See water, what doth forbid me to be baptized?

²⁰ I am crucified with Christ: Nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

³ Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past, in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh, and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

¹⁵ For we have not an high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, without sin.

²⁶ For such an high priest became us also, holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; ²⁷ Who needeth not daily, as the high priest, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the peoples: for this he did once for all, when he offered up himself. ²⁸ For the law maketh men priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath which was since the law the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.

²⁶ But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things all possible.

²⁷ And Jesus looking upon them, saith, With men [it is] impossible, but not with God.

²⁷ And he said, The things which are impossible with men, are possible with God.

²¹ Who shall change our vile body, [to be] like unto his glorious body; according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

²⁰ He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God: ²¹ And being fully persuaded, that what he had promised he was able also to perform.

⁶⁵ And great fear came on all that dwelt round about him: and all these saying, were publickly talked of abroad throughout all the hill-country of Judea.

⁴⁴ For lo, when the voice of thy salutation came to mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

⁶⁷ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied,

¹ And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost, returned from Jordan, and was led by the spirit into the wilderness,

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

³ What is it therefore, brethren? Look ye out from among your selves seven men, attested to be full of the Spirit, and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

⁵⁵ But Stephen being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus the Lord standing on the right hand of God,

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,

⁴⁸ For the Lord hath regarded the low estate of his servant, for behold, from henceforth, all generations shall call me blessed.

³⁸ Saying, Blessed [be] he that cometh in the name of the Lord: Blessed be the King. Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

²⁶ Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad: moreover also, my flesh shall rest in hope, ²⁷ That thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, neither wilt thou deliver thine holy One to see corruption. ²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt fill me with joy with thy countenance.

⁵ Whose [are] the fathers; and of whom as concerning the flesh is Christ, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

² Looking unto Jesus theauthor and finisher of the faith; who for the joy that was set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁴ But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and thou comest to me.

¹¹ For unto you is born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, Who is Christ the Lord.

⁷ But say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.

⁴² And David himself saith in the book of psalms, The Lord saith unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ⁴³ Till I put thine enemies beneath thy feet, ⁴⁴ David calleth him Lord, how is he his son?

⁵ After that, he taketh and poureth water into a bason, and began to wash his disciples feet, and to wipe [them] with the towel wherewith he was girded. ⁶ He cometh therefore to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? ⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not yet, but thou shalt know hereafter. ⁸ Peter saith unto him, Lord, Thou shalt never wash [my] feet. Jesus answered, If I shall not wash thee, thou hast no part with me.

¹³ Ye call me Master, and Lord: and ye say well; for I am.

²⁸ Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord, and my God.

³ [Do] nothing through strife, or vain-glory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.

⁸ Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss, for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung that I may win Christ,

²⁰ And behold, thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believedst not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

⁴⁰ Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that if thou wouldst believe, thou shouldst see the glory of God?

²⁹ Jesus saith unto him, Because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed; blessed [are] they that have not seen, and have believed.

¹¹ And not only this, but we also joy in God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have already received the atonement.

³¹ That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

¹⁴ Now thanks [be] unto God, who always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the favour of his knowledge by us in every place.

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord alway: again I say, Rejoice.

⁸ Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable, and full of glory:

¹ PAUL an apostle of Jesus Christ, by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Jesus Christ, [who is] our hope;

³ For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour:

³ But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me, according to the commandment of God our Saviour:

¹⁰ Neither purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

¹³ Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

⁴ But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, ⁵ Not by works of righteousness, which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us by the washing of regeneration, and renewing by the Holy Ghost; ⁶ Which he shed on us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour:

²⁵ To the only God our Saviour, by Jesus Christ our Lord, [be] glory, majesty, dominion and power, before all ages, both now and ever. Amen.

²⁷ And it came to pass as he was speaking these things, a certain woman of the company lift up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed [is] the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou had sucked.

²⁶ Therefore ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise Men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble [are chosen]. ²⁷ But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world, to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, to bring to nought things that are:

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, hath not God chosen the poor of the world, rich in faith, and heirs of the promise, which he hath promised to them that love him? ⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats?

¹³ And forthwith the Lord Jesus [sent them] into the swine. And the unclean spirits went out, and entred into the swine, and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the sea, about two thousand, and were choked in the sea.

²⁰ Now unto him that is able to perform exceeding abundantly all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

⁸ And the four animals had each of them six wings about him, and they were full of eyes within; and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.

⁴ Who shall not fear [thee,] O Lord, and glorify thy name? for [thou] only [art] holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest O Lord.

⁵ And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, small and great.

²¹ Because that when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkned.

⁵ Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth it self against the knowledge of God, and captivating every thought, and bringing it unto the obedience of Christ:

⁵ Likewise ye younger, submit your selves unto the elder: yea, and all one with another, be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

⁸ Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burnt with fire: for strong [is] God who hath judged her.

³ Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James, and Joses, and of Judas and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were scandalized at him.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down justified [rather] than that Pharisee: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: ¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

¹⁰ Humble your selves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

⁶ Blessed [are] they who do hunger and thirst after righteousness; for they shall be filled,

²¹ Blessed [are] ye that hunger now[:] for ye shall be filled.

²⁴ But wo unto you that are rich: for ye have received your consolation.

¹⁶ And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully. ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do,because I have no room where to bestow my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and make them greater;and there will I collect all my fruits. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods; Be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: [then] whose shall those things be which thou hast provided; ²¹ --

¹⁹ But he spake also another parable: There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day. ²⁰ But a certain beggar named Lazarus, was laid at his gate full of ulcers. ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich mans table: moreover, the dogs came and licked his ulcers. ²² And it came to pass that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abrahams bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried. ²³ And in hades he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus resting in his bosom. ²⁴ And he cried earnestly and said, Father Abraham have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is here comforted, and thou art pained.

¹¹ The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed thus, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I posses. ¹³ And the publican standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down justified [rather] than that Pharisee: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself, shall be exalted.

²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ For it is easier for a camel to pass through a needles eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

¹¹ Jesus therefore took the five loaves, and when he had given thanks he distributed to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes also, as much as they would. ¹² When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing thereof may be lost. ¹³ But they gathered [them] together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the barley-loaves, which remained over and above, unto them that had eaten.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, I am the bread of life; he that cometh to me, shall not hunger at all; and he that believeth on me, shall not thirst at all.

²⁶ Therefore ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise Men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble [are chosen].

⁸ Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would that ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

¹ Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon [you]. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and the rust shall eat your flesh as fire: ye have heaped treasure together in the last days. ⁴ Behold the hire of the labourers, who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them who have reaped, are entered into the ears of the Lord of hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, ye have been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts in days of slaughter. ⁶ Ye have condemned [and] killed the just; he doth not resist you.

¹⁷ Because thou sayst, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. ¹⁸ I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayst be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayst be clothed, and the shame of thy nakedness may not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eye-salve, that thou mayst see.

¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more, neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. ¹⁷ For the Lamb that is in the midst of the throne, shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters of life: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

⁷⁰ Ashe spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began; ⁷¹ Salvation from the hand of our enemies, and of all that hate us. ⁷² To perform the mercy to our fathers, to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, ⁷⁴ To grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear, ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him, all our days.

²⁸ As concerning the gospel, [they are] enemies for your sake: but as touching the election, beloved for the fathers sakes. ²⁹ For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

¹⁶ Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, who is Christ. ¹⁷ And this I say, The covenant that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.

⁶ But when they were come thither the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. ⁷ And she brought forth her first born son, and wrapped him in swadling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

¹⁴ And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoyce at his birth.

²⁵ That thus hath the Lord done to me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

¹⁵ Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

²⁶ And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it: or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.

⁸ And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day: and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.

⁵ Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

⁶³ And he asked for a writing-table, and wrote, His name is John. And his tongue was loosed: And they marvelled all.

⁶⁰ And his mother answered and said, No, but his name shall be called John.

³³ And when the dæmon was cast out, the dumb spake: and the multitudes marveled, saying, It was never so seen in Israel.

³² And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and he had an impediment in his speech: and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. ³³ And he took him aside from the multitude, and he spit, and put his fingers into his ears, and touched his tongue. ³⁴ And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphetha, that is, Be opened. ³⁵ And his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain. ³⁶ And he charged them that they should tell no body any thing: but what he charged them, so much the more did these people publish it. ³⁷ And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

³⁹ And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda.

¹⁶ And a fear seized on them all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet hath risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.

⁴³ And fear was upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

⁵ And when Ananias heard these words, he fell down immediately and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard [it].

¹¹ And great fear came upon the whole church, and upon as many as heard these things.

¹⁷ And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

¹¹ And after three days and an half, the Spirit of life from God entred into them: and they stood upon their feet, and great fear fell upon them who few them.

⁸⁰ Now the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing into Israel.

⁴⁰ And the child grew, and waxed strong, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was in him.

⁴⁴ Put ye these sayings into your ears: for the Son of man is to be delivered into the hands of men.

²¹ But the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord.

⁴¹ And it came to pass, that when Elisabet heard the Salutation of Mary, and Elisabet's babe leaped in her womb, and Elisabet was filled with the Holy Ghost.

²¹ For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake, being moved by the Holy Ghost.

³⁸ And coming in the same hour she gave thanks unto God, and spake of him to all them that expected redemption in Jerusalem.

⁴⁴ And will level thee even with the ground, and thy children; and they will not leave stone upon stone in this whole [city,] because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

³ Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly things in Christ:

⁷ In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

³ Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope, by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

¹⁰ And blessed [be] the kingdom of our father David, that cometh: Hosanna in the highest.

² Which he had promised afore by his prophets, in the holy scriptures ³ Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was made to him of the seed of David, according to the flesh,

¹⁶ I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, the bright and morning star.

³⁶ David himself says, by the Holy Ghost, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I shall put thine enemies beneath thy feet.

²⁶ That Christ ought to have suffered these things, and to have entred into his glory? ²⁷ And he began from Moses, and all the prophets, to expound unto them in the scriptures, the things concerning himself.

⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These [were] my words which I spake unto you while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses, and the Prophets, and the Psalms concerning me.

²¹ Whom the heaven must receive, until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of his holy prophets, ²² Moses truly said unto our fathers, A prophet shall the Lord our God raise up unto you, of our brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. ²³ And it shall come to pass, every soul which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. ²⁴ All the prophets also from Samuel, and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise spoken of these days.

²⁵ And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word. Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the Prophet, unto our fathers,

² Which he had promised afore by his prophets, in the holy scriptures

⁷ Wherefore, as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

¹² Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto you they did minister the things which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you, by the Holy Ghost, sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him: And he said unto me, See [thou do it] not; I am thy fellow-servant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

⁷⁴ To grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hands of our enemies, might serve him without fear,

⁸ But he that committeth sin, is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

⁵⁴ He hath holpen his servant Israel, to remember [his] mercy, ⁵⁵ As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

²⁵ Yeare the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. ²⁶ Unto you first, God having raised up his Son, sent him forth to bless [you,] in turning away every one from your iniquities.

²⁸ As concerning the gospel, [they are] enemies for your sake: but as touching the election, beloved for the fathers sakes.

¹⁵ Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.

¹³ For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, ¹⁴ Saying, Surely, blessing, I will bless thee, and multiplying, I will multiply thee. ¹⁵ And so after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. ¹⁶ For men swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation [is] to them an end of all strife. ¹⁷ Wherein God willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed [it] by an oath: ¹⁸ That with two immutable things, in which [it was] impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

¹³ For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,

¹⁶ For men swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation [is] to them an end of all strife. ¹⁷ Wherein God willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed [it] by an oath:

⁷¹ Salvation from the hand of our enemies, and of all that hate us.

²² But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

¹⁵ For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

⁷ For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

¹⁵ And deliver them who through fear of death, were all their life time subject to bondage.

¹⁴ How much more shall the blood of Christ do, who through the Holy Spirit, offered himself without spot to God, who will purge our conscience from dead works to serve the living God;

¹⁰ Fear not those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and may have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

⁴ According as he hath chosen us in him, before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy, and without blame before him in love:

¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained, that we should walk in them.

²⁴ And that ye put on the new man, who after God is created in righteousness, and holiness, and truth.

¹ Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort [you] by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how you ought to walk, and to please God, as you do walk, so ye would abound more and more.

⁷ For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren, beloved of God; because God hath from the beginning chosen us to salvation, through sanctification of the Spirit, and belief of the truth:

⁹ Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace which was given us in Christ Jesus, before the world began,

¹⁴ As obedient children, not fashioning your selves according to the former lusts, in your ignorance: ¹⁵ But as he who hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; ¹⁶ Because it is written, Ye shall be holy, for I am holy.

⁴ Whereby are given unto you exceeding great and precious promises; that by these you might be partakers of a divine nature, having escaped the Corruption that is in the world through lust. ⁵ And do ye give all diligence, add to your faith, virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; ⁶ And to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; ⁷ And to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. ⁸ For if these things be present with you, and abound, they make [you] neither barren, nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

³ For this it he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

⁹ But what went ye out to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. ¹⁰ This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.

⁵ And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

²⁶ But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet.

² As it is written in Esaias the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way. ³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the ways of our God, make his paths straight.

³² If we shall say, Of men, we fear the people: for all men knew John, that he was a prophet indeed.

¹⁶ And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest;and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of David his father.

⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make your paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; ⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of the Lord.

²⁷ This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before [thy] face, who shall prepare thy way. ²⁸ But I say unto you, He that is least in the kingdom of God, is greater than he.

²³ He said I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias

²⁷ He it is, who coming after me, was made before me, whose shoes latchet I am not worthy to unloose.

²⁴ When John had first preached before his coming, the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel, ²⁵ And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not [he]. But behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of [his] feet I am not worthy to loose.

³ The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the ways of our God, make his paths straight. ⁴ John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins.

³ And he came in to all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance, for the remission of sins;

⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of the Lord.

⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Many things are forgiven her. ⁴⁸ But he said unto her, All thy sins are forgiven. ⁴⁹ And they that sat down with him, began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? ⁵⁰ And he said to the woman, woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

⁷ He came for a witness, to bear witness of the light, that all through him might believe. ⁸ He was not the light, but was to bear witness of the light. ⁹ He was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

¹⁵ John bare witness of him, and cried, This was he of whom I spake to you. He that cometh aster me, was made before me: for he was preferred to me. ¹⁶ For of his fulness have all we received and grace for grace. ¹⁷ For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth by Jesus Christ.

²⁹ The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world.

²⁷ John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven, ²⁸ Ye your selves bear me witness, that I said, I [am] not the Christ, but that I am sent before him. ²⁹ He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoyceth greatly because of the bridegrooms voice, this my joy therefore is fulfilled. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must be diminished. ³¹ -- ³² But he that cometh from above, is above all: he that is of the earth, is of the earth, and speaketh of the earth. He that cometh from heaven, testifyeth, what he hath seen and heard, and no one receiveth his testimony. ³³ He that hath received his testimony, hath set to his seal, that God is true. ³⁴ For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth [him] not the Spirit by measure.

³⁸ But Peter saith unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁹ Repent ye therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come upon you, from the face of the Lord.

³¹ Him hath God exalted in glory, a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins in him.

⁴³ To him witness all the prophets, that through his name whosoever believeth in him, shall receive remission of sins.

³⁸ Be it known unto you therefore, Men, Brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins. ³⁹ By him therefore every one that believes is justified before God, from all things by repentance, from which we could not be justified by the law of Moses.

⁴ Then said Paul, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, That they should believe on him who should come after him, that is, on Christ.

²⁵ Whom God hath set forth a propitiation, through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that were formerly through the forbearance of God;

⁶ Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works. ⁷ Blessed [are] they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. ⁸ Blessed [is] the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

¹⁶ For God hath so loved the world, that he hath given his only begotten Son, that every one who believeth on him, should not perish, but have eternal life.

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, for the great love wherewith he loved us, ⁵ Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickned us together with Christ, by whose grace ye are saved.

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and thou shalt lay hold on Christ.

⁸ For God is my record, how greatly I long after you all, in the bowels of Jesus Christ.

¹ If [there be] therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies;

¹² Put on therefore as the elect of God holy and beloved bowels of mercies, also kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

¹⁹ We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do dwell that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts:

¹⁷ But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

⁹ In this was manifested the love of God towards us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. ¹⁰ Herein is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son the propitiation for our sins.

¹⁶ The people who sat in darkness, saw great light: To them who sat in the region and shadow of death, light is sprung up.

²⁸ Come unto me all that labour, and you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

³² A light for a revelation [to the Gentiles] and the glory of thy people Israel.

⁹ He was the true light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

¹² Jesus therefore spake again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

⁴⁶ I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me, should not abide in darkness.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn [them] from darkness to light, and[from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in me.

¹⁷ And the way of peace have they not known.

⁸ For ye were sometimes darkness, but now light in the Lord: walk as children of light,

⁴ But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. ⁵ For we are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

⁵ This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. ⁶ For if we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: ⁷ But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

¹ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea,

⁷ And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom, and stature, and in favour with God, and with men.

³¹ And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing in water.
