³³ They answered him and said, We be Abrahams seed, and were never in bondage to any one: how sayst thou, Ye shall be made free?

⁹ And think not to say within your selves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I say unto you, that God is able of there stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

²⁴ And he cried earnestly and said, Father Abraham have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is here comforted, and thou art pained. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they who would pass to you cannot; neither can they pass hither, from thence.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abrahams seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
