1 John 5 Cross References - Wesley

1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and every one who loveth him that begat, loveth him also that is begotten of him. 2 Hereby we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not grievous. 4 For whosoever is born of God overcometh the world; and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is he that came by water and blood; even Jesus Christ; not by the water only, but by the water and the blood: and it is the Spirit who testifieth; because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that testify on earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood, and these three agree in one. 8 And there are three that testify in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one. 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater; and this is the testimony of God, which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God, hath the testimony in himself. He that believeth not God, hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the testimony which he hath testified of his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God hath given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written to you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that ye may know ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us. 15 And if we know that he heareth us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we asked of him. 16 If any one see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, let him ask, and he will give him life for them that sin not unto death. 17 There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for that. All unrighteousness is sin: but there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; 19 but he that is born of God keepeth himself, and the wicked one toucheth him not. We know, that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in the wicked one. 20 But we know that the Son of God is come; and he hath given us an understanding that we may know the true one; and we are in the true one, even in his Son Jesus Christ; this is the true God and eternal life. 21 Beloved children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

9 What then? Are we better than they? In no wise: for we have before proved all, both Jews and Gentiles, to be under sin. 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one. 11 There is none that understandeth; there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They have all turned aside; they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doth good, no not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues have they used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips. 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways, 17 And they have not known the way of peace: 18 The fear of God is not before their eyes.
