1 John 4 Cross References - Wesley

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby ye know the spirit of God: every spirit which confesseth Jesus Christ come in the flesh, is of God. 3 And every spirit which confesseth not Jesus Christ come in the flesh, is not of God: and this is that spirit of Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and now already it is in the world. 4 Ye are of God, beloved children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 5 They are of the world; therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. 6 We are of God; he that knoweth God, heareth us: he that is not of God, heareth not us: hereby know we the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. 7 Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 Hereby was manifested the love of God toward us, because God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son, a propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abideth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby we know that we abide in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify, that the Father sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess, that Jesus is the Son of God, God abideth in him, and he in God. 16 And we know and believe the love that God hath to us. God is love, and he that abideth in love, abideth in God, and God in him. 17 Hereby is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath torment. 19 He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. 20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar; for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God, whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, that he who loveth God, love his brother also.

25 Whom God hath set forth as a propitiation, through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness by the remission of past sins, through the forbearance of God: For a demonstration, 26 I say, of his righteousness in this present time, that he might be just, and yet the justifier of him that believeth in Jesus.

Romans 5:8-10

8 But God recommendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more being reconciled, we shall be saved through his life.

Romans 8:9-17

9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if the Spirit of God dwell in you. And if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. 10 Now if Christ be in you, the body indeed is dead because of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness.

11 And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead, will also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. 12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the flesh, ye shall live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the Sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the Spirit of bondage again unto fear, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Romans 8:15

15 For ye have not received the Spirit of bondage again unto fear, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The same Spirit beareth witness with our spirits, that we are the children of God. 17 And if children, then heirs, heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ: if we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.

If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

14 For the love of Christ constraineth us, while we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: 15 And that he died for all, that they who live should not henceforth live to themselves, but to him who died for them, and rose again.

2 Corinthians 5:19-21

19 that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing their traspasses to them, and hath committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore we are embassadors for Christ, as though God were intreating by us: we beseech you, in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him, who knew no sin, a sin-offering for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God through him.

2 who were dead in trespasses and sins, Wherein ye formerly walked, according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the sons of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in time past, 3 in the desires of the flesh, doing the will of the flesh and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the others. 4 But God who is rich in mercy,

Ephesians 2:4-5

4 But God who is rich in mercy, 5 through his great love wherewith he loved us, Hath quickened us together with Christ, even when we were dead in trespasses, (by grace ye are saved) And hath raised us up together,

20 Built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone, On whom all the building fitly framed together, 21 groweth into an holy temple in the Lord: 22 On whom ye also are built together, for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means, for that day shall not come, unless the falling away come first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God as God, declaring himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that I told you these things, when I was yet with you? 6 And now ye know that which with-holdeth, that he may be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity already worketh; only he that with-holdeth will with-hold, till he be taken out of the way. 8 And then will that wicked one be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the Spirit of his mouth, and destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Whose coming is after the mighty working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceiveableness of unrighteousness in them that perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And therefore God shall send them strong delusion, so that that they shall believe a lie,

1 Peter 5:12

12 By Silvanus, a faithful brother, as I suppose, I have written briefly to you, exhorting and adding my testimony, that this is the true grace of God wherein ye stand,

2 Peter 2:1

1 But there were false prophets also among the people, as there shall likewise be false teachers among you, who will privily bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their pernicious ways, by reason of whom the way of truth will be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness will they with feigned speeches make merchandize of you, whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have beheld, and our hands have handled of the word of life: 2 For the life was manifested, and we have seen, and testify and declare to you the eternal life which was with the Father, and was manifested to us: 3 That which we have seen and heard declare we to you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ:

1 John 1:5

1 John 2:1-2

1 My beloved children, I write these things to you, that ye may not sin. But if any one sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous, And he is the propitiation for our sins; 2 and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that Antichrist cometh, so even now there are many Antichrists, whereby we know that it is the last time.

1 John 2:22

22 Who is that liar, but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is Antichrist who denieth the Father and the Son. 23 Whosoever denieth the Son, he hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son, hath the Father also.

1 John 2:28

28 And now, beloved children, abide in him, that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If ye know, that he is righteous, ye know that every one who doth righteousness is born of him.

1 John 3:10-23

10 Hereby the children of God are manifest and the children of the devil: whosoever practiseth not righteousness is not of God; neither he that loveth not his brother. 11 For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we love one another.

1 John 3:11

11 For this is the message which ye heard from the beginning, that we love one another. 12 Not as Cain, who was of the wicked one, and slew his brother. 13 And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you. 14 We know, that we are passed from death to life, because we love the brethren: he that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

1 John 3:14

14 We know, that we are passed from death to life, because we love the brethren: he that loveth not his brother abideth in death. 15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murtherer, and ye know that no murtherer hath eternal life abiding in him. 16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 John 3:16

16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

1 John 3:16-17

16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

1 John 3:17

17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? 18 My beloved children, let us love not in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

1 John 3:23

23 And this is his commandment, that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. 24 And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him: and hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

1 John 4:1

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby ye know the spirit of God: every spirit which confesseth Jesus Christ come in the flesh, is of God. 3 And every spirit which confesseth not Jesus Christ come in the flesh, is not of God: and this is that spirit of Antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and now already it is in the world. 4 Ye are of God, beloved children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1 John 4:6

6 We are of God; he that knoweth God, heareth us: he that is not of God, heareth not us: hereby know we the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error. 7 Beloved, let us love one another; for love is of God, and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.

1 John 4:16-16
