¹¹ Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him, and to comfort him.

¹ Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

⁹ So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.

² If we essay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can refrain from speaking?

¹⁹ Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall expire.

³ I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.

¹³ Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man. ¹⁴ Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches. ¹⁵ They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking. ¹⁶ When I had waited, (for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more;) ¹⁷ I said, I will answer also my part, I also will show my opinion. ¹⁸ For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me. ¹⁹ Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles. ²⁰ I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

³ These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me.

⁸ For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he hath gained, when God taketh away his soul?

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty. ¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he should heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay? ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not. ²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night. ²¹ The east wind carrieth him away, and he departeth: and as a storm hurleth him out of his place. ²² For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand. ²³ Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and lo, he was not: yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹⁸ Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou didst cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou wilt despise their image.

²¹ Not every one that saith to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven.

²⁰ But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and immediately with joy receiveth it; ²¹ Yet he hath not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, forthwith he is offended.

²² And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. ²³ And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten by worms, and died.

⁴ But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.

¹⁹ Thy own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

² If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings; yes, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

¹³ Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

⁸ The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

³ Then Judas, who had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

⁶ The burden of the beasts of the south: into the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the young and the old lion, the viper and flying serpent, they will carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the bunches of camels, to a people that shall not profit them.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³ And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand. ⁴ And when the barbarians saw the animal hang on his hand, they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth not to live. ⁵ And he shook off the animal into the fire, and felt no harm. ⁶ Yet they looked when he would have swelled, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

²³ Surely they shall not see the land which I swore to their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

¹³ He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock; ¹⁴ Butter of cows, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.

²⁹ And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

² Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thy eyes, but shalt not eat of it.

⁶ When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

⁸ (36:7)How excellent is thy loving-kindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. ⁹ (36:8)They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

¹⁶ (81:15)The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves to him: and their time should have endured for ever.

¹⁵ Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

²² And it shall come to pass, for the abundance of milk that they shall give, he shall eat butter: for butter and honey shall every one eat that is left in the land.

¹⁷ When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the LORD will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.

⁶ For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited. ⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the year of drouth, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

²⁴ And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame.

¹ And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

¹⁰ His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

¹⁵ He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly.

²⁵ If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gained much;

²⁹ If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or have lifted up myself when evil found him:

¹² Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:

⁷ The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merry-hearted do sigh. ⁸ The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. ⁹ They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. ¹⁰ The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may enter. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.

¹⁵ What hath my beloved to do in my house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many; and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest. ¹⁶ The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

¹³ Woe to him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbor's service without wages, and giveth him not for his work;

¹⁷ But thy eyes and thy heart are only for thy covetousness, and for shedding innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

³⁴ Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath swallowed me up like a dragon, he hath filled his belly with my delicates, he hath cast me out.

⁴⁴ And I will punish Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed: and the nations shall not flow together any more to him: even the wall of Babylon shall fall.

¹⁶ All thy enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth: they say, We have swallowed her up: certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.

¹² The time is come, the day draweth near: let not the buyer rejoice, nor the seller mourn: for wrath is upon all the multitude thereof.

⁷ For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if it shall yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. ⁸ Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel in which is no pleasure.

¹ Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast apostatized from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every corn-floor.

⁴ Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees! hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering, to go in.

²⁴ Ye blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.

⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

³³ The fruit of thy land, and all thy labors, shall be eaten by a nation which thou knowest not: and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed always:

³ Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed; whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with it? and I will restore it you. ⁴ And they said thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught from any man's hand.

¹⁹ And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine.

¹⁵ It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

²⁷ Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me. ²⁸ For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?

⁶ For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for naught, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

² Some remove the landmarks: they violently take away flocks, and their feed. ³ They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge. ⁴ They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together. ⁵ Behold, as wild asses in the desert, they go forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children. ⁶ They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked. ⁷ They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold. ⁸ They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter. ⁹ They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor. ¹⁰ They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry; ¹¹ Who make oil within their walls, and tread their wine-presses, and suffer thirst. ¹² Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them.

¹³ If I despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, when they contended with me; ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? ¹⁵ Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: ²² Then let my arm fall from my shoulder-blade, and my arm be broken from the bone.

³⁸ If my land crieth against me, or its furrows likewise complain; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits of it without money, or have caused its owners to lose their life:

⁹ By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

¹⁸ To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

⁵ (12:4)Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

³¹ He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.

²² Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

¹ So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

⁸ (5:9)Moreover, the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry. ⁸ Woe to them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there is no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth!

³⁴ To crush under his feet all the prisoners of the earth,

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have oppressed the poor and needy: yes, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

¹ Hear this word, ye heifers of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink. ² The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fish-hooks, ³ And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.

² And they covet fields, and take them by violence; and houses, and take them away: so they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage.

⁹ The women of my people have ye cast out from their pleasant houses; from their children have ye taken away my glory for ever.

⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats?

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy that hath shown no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped your fields, which is by you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them who have reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

¹³ (5:14)But those riches perish by evil labor: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. ¹⁴ (5:15)As he came into the world, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labor, which he may carry away in his hand.

²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth.

¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

¹¹ As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

²⁴ And he cried, and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

² And the LORD sent against him bands of the Chaldees, and bands of the Syrians, and bands of the Moabites, and bands of the children of Ammon, and sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servants the prophets.

¹⁵ And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yes, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only have escaped alone to tell thee.

¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yes, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only have escaped alone to tell thee.

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest.

¹¹ God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

⁷ The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

⁵ (39:4)LORD, make me to know my end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.

¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity. ²⁰ Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labor which I took under the sun.

⁶ I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

⁷ How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

²⁴ Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;

²³ And Moses stretched forth his rod towards heaven, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground: and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

³³ And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.

⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

³⁰ They were not estranged from their desire: but while their meat was yet in their mouths, ³¹ The wrath of God came upon them, and slew the fattest of them, and smote down the chosen men of Israel.

⁴ My heart panted, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure hath he turned into fear to me.

¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to deposit my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I deposit all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?

³⁵ He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms.

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty and seven thousand of the men that were left. And Ben-hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner chamber.

²³ Till a dart striketh through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

¹⁸ And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.

⁴³ Fear, and the pit, and the snare, shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith the LORD. ⁴⁴ He that fleeth from the fear, shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth out of the pit, shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon it, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith the LORD.

¹⁹ As if a man fled from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him.

¹ I saw the Lord standing upon the altar: and he said, Smite the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake: and cut them in the head, all of them; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not flee away, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered. ² Though they dig into the place of the dead, thence shall my hand take them; though they climb up to heaven, thence will I bring them down: ³ And though they hide themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they are hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command the serpent, and he shall bite them:

⁴¹ If I shall whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

¹⁴ Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak.

⁴ For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison of which drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

¹³ His archers encompass me; he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

²⁰ Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest stealeth him away in the night.

¹² (7:11)God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁵ (88:14)LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?

³ And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah to him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magor-missabib. ⁴ For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thy eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. ¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

⁹ (21:8)Thy hand shall find out all thy enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.

⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

²² And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

²⁰ Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evil-doers shall never be renowned. ²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they may not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. ²² For I will arise against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.

³³ For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, for the king it is prepared; he hath made it deep and large: the pile of it is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather his wheat into the granary; but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.

¹² But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

²⁸ Assemble to me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them.

¹⁸ O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

²⁰ (44:19)Though thou hast severely broke us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shades of death. ²¹ (44:20)If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god;

²¹ For behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.

²³ Because they have committed villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbor's wives, and have spoken lying words in my name, which I have not commanded them; even I know, and am a witness, saith the LORD.

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.

² For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. ³ Therefore, whatever ye have spoken in darkness, shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets, shall be proclaimed upon the house-tops.

¹⁶ In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord shall come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise from God.

³¹ Thy ox shall be slain before thy eyes, and thou shalt not eat of it: thy ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given to thy enemies, and thou shalt have none to rescue them.

¹⁷ Behold, the days come, that all that is in thy house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store to this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD.

⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

¹⁸ That which he labored for shall he restore, and shall not swallow it: according to his substance shall the restitution be, and he shall not rejoice in it. ¹⁹ Because he hath oppressed and hath forsaken the poor; because he hath violently taken away a house which he did not build. ²⁰ Surely he shall not feel quietness in his belly, he shall not save of that which he desired. ²¹ There shall none of his food be left; therefore shall no man look for his goods. ²² In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in straits: every hand of the wicked shall come upon him.

³⁰ That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they will be brought forth to the day of wrath.

¹⁴ If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep. ¹⁶ Though he should heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay? ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver. ¹⁸ He buildeth his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper maketh. ¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

⁴ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

¹⁸ Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he will make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

¹ Come now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. ³ Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a testimony against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have amassed treasure for the last days.

¹⁷ For in one hour so great riches is come to naught. And every ship-master, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off,

²⁰ The LORD will not spare him, but then the anger of the LORD and his jealousy shall smoke against that man, and all the curses that are written in this book shall lie upon him, and the LORD shall blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ And the LORD shall separate him to evil out of all the tribes of Israel according to all the curses of the covenant that are written in this book of the law: ²² So that the generation to come of your children that shall arise after you, and the stranger that shall come from a distant land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses which the LORD hath laid upon it; ²³ And that the whole land of it is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor doth it bear, nor doth any grass grow in it, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger and in his wrath: ²⁴ Even all the nations shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus to this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger? ²⁵ Then men shall say, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth from the land of Egypt: ²⁶ For they went and served other gods, and worshiped them, gods which they knew not, and which he had not given to them: ²⁷ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curses that are written in this book: ²⁸ And the LORD rooted them out of their land in anger and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.

²¹ Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

¹³ This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

² For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

⁵ The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. ⁶ Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and a horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.

³⁸ Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?

⁵¹ And will cut him asunder, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
