⁷ And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice and cried, and said to them, Hearken to me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken to you.

³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God. ⁴ But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.

¹¹ Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?

² I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

² How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

¹ Wherefore, Job, I pray thee, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.

³¹ Mark well, O Job, hearken to me: hold thy peace, and I will speak. ³² If thou hast any thing to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify thee. ³³ If not, hearken to me: hold thy peace, and I shall teach thee wisdom.

² Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear to me, ye that have knowledge.

² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently to me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

⁴ I am as one mocked by his neighbor, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is derided. ⁵ He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

⁹ Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?

¹³ Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves against me.

²⁰ My friends scorn me: but my eye poureth out tears to God.

² Are there not mockers with me? and doth not my eye continue in their provocation?

⁹ And Moses spoke so to the children of Israel: but they hearkened not to Moses, by reason of anguish of spirit, and cruel bondage.

¹⁶ Count not thy handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

¹ Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me speak with thee of thy judgments: Why doth the way of the wicked prosper? why are they all happy that deal very treacherously? ² Thou hast planted them, yes, they have taken root: they grow, yes, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins. ³ But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried my heart towards thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

¹⁷ This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

¹³ Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: why lookest thou on them that deal treacherously, and keepest silence when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?

¹⁵ They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag: therefore they rejoice and are glad. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice to their net, and burn incense to their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their food plenteous.

² And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. ³ And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. ⁴ And they worshiped the dragon which gave power to the beast: and they worshiped the beast, saying, Who is like the beast? who is able to make war with him? ⁵ And there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given to him to continue forty and two months. ⁶ And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. ⁷ And it was given to him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and languages, and nations.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

¹⁹ He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

¹⁰ His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods.

²⁸ The increase of his house shall depart, and his goods shall flow away in the day of his wrath.

¹⁴ From men who are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, who have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.

⁶ Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children is their fathers.

³⁴ Let him take away his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:

²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.

¹¹ Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

⁵ They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they afflicted like other men.

¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors.

¹⁹ I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him. ²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ There is no peace, saith my God, to the wicked.

²⁶ There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: I will complete the number of thy days.

¹³ And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless thy children, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thy oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he swore to thy fathers to give thee. ¹⁴ Thou shalt be blessed above all people: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

¹¹ And the LORD shall make thee to abound in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the LORD swore to thy fathers to give thee.

¹³ That our granaries may be full, affording all manner of store; that our sheep may bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our streets: ¹⁴ That our oxen may be strong to labor; that there be no breaking in, nor going out; that there be no complaining in our streets.

¹ For all this I considered in my heart even to declare all this, that the righteous, and the wise, and their works, are in the hand of God: no man knoweth either love or hatred by all that is before them. ² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

¹⁶ And he spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: ¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to deposit my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I deposit all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast abundance of goods laid up for many years; take thy ease, eat, drink, and be merry. ²⁰ But God said to him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast provided? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.

¹¹ If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD:

²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee torment me not.

²⁸ And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

⁷ Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

¹⁰ And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. ¹¹ And for this cause God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: ¹² That they all may be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

³ For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts will they multiply to themselves teachers, having itching ears; ⁴ And they will turn away their ears from the truth, and will be turned to fables.

² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

⁹ For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

³ For thou saidst, What advantage will it be to thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

⁴ (12:3)The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

¹¹ Withdraw from the way, turn aside from the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

¹⁹ I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I have not said to the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

⁶ According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

¹³ Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this from your hand? saith the LORD. ¹⁴ But cursed be the deceiver, who hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth to the Lord a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.

⁷ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and the door shall be opened to you:

²⁴ Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

⁶ O my soul, come not thou into their secret; to their assembly, my honor, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will they digged down a wall.

²¹ And said, Naked came I from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: The LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

⁹ Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? ¹⁰ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

¹⁸ Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

¹ Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of scoffers.

⁸ Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

⁸ There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

² And he called him, and said to him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship: for thou mayest be no longer steward.

²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy life-time receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

⁵ Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. ⁶ The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

¹⁸ He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

¹⁰ Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall encompass him.

⁷ For we are consumed by thy anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled. ⁸ Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance. ⁹ For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years, as a tale that is told.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be extinguished.

²⁰ Whoever curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

²⁰ For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be extinguished.

⁸ And the foolish said to the wise, Give us of your oil: for our lamps are gone out.

⁴⁶ The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him asunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

⁸ But to them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness; indignation and wrath: ⁹ Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;

⁷ And in the greatness of thy excellence thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble.

²⁵ Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?

⁴ The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them.

¹³ (83:12)Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.

²⁴ Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

¹³ The nations shall rush like the rushing of many waters: but God will rebuke them, and they shall flee far off, and shall be chased as the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like a rolling thing before the whirlwind.

⁵ Moreover, the multitude of thy strangers shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the terrible ones shall be as chaff that passeth away: yes, it shall be at an instant suddenly.

²⁴ Yes, they shall not be planted; yes, they shall not be sown: yes, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

¹⁵ Behold, I will make thee a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: thou shalt thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shalt make the hills as chaff. ¹⁶ Thou shalt fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them: and thou shalt rejoice in the LORD, and shalt glory in the Holy One of Israel.

²⁴ Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

³ Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind from the floor, and as the smoke from the chimney.

¹⁰ For while they are folded together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.

¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather his wheat into the granary; but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.

⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And to thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

⁵ Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

³⁴ Is not this laid up in store with me, and sealed up among my treasures?

⁴¹ If I shall whet my glittering sword, and my hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

³⁹ And I am this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. The LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

²⁴ Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

⁵ (54:3)For strangers have risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. Selah.

⁹ Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. ¹⁰ Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. ¹¹ Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let strangers spoil his labor. ¹² Let there be none to extend mercy to him: neither let there be any to favor his fatherless children. ¹³ Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out. ¹⁴ Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out. ¹⁵ Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth. ¹⁶ Because that he remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart. ¹⁷ As he loved cursing, so let it come to him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. ¹⁸ As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones. ¹⁹ Let it be to him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle with which he is girded continually. ²⁰ Let this be the reward of my adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul. ²¹ But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name's sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me. ²² For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me. ²³ I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust. ²⁴ My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness. ²⁵ I became also a reproach to them: when they looked upon me they shook their heads. ²⁶ Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy: ²⁷ That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, LORD, hast done it. ²⁸ Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice. ²⁹ Let my adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle. ³⁰ I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yes, I will praise him among the multitude. ³¹ For he will stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

²¹ Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they may not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

⁴ Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. ⁵ But he was wounded for our transgression, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

²⁹ In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.

² What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge?

¹⁴ Now lo, if he begetteth a son, that seeth all his father's sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,

¹⁹ Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live. ²⁰ The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

¹⁸ Then shall ye return and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

¹⁹ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: ²⁰ But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.

²⁷ For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels; and then he will reward every man according to his works.

³¹ Wherefore ye are witnesses to yourselves, that ye are the children of them who killed the prophets. ³² Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. ³³ Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? ³⁴ Wherefore behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them ye will kill and crucify, and some of them ye will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel, to the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

⁵ But after thy hardness and impenitent heart, treasurest up to thyself wrath against the day of wrath, and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

²¹ For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

¹⁴ Alexander the copper-smith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:

⁶ Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double to her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled, fill to her double.

¹⁹ The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he openeth his eyes, and he is not.

³ (60:1)To the chief Musician upon Shushan-eduth, Michtam of David, to teach; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand. O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.

⁸ (75:7)But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.

¹⁷ Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, which hast drank at the hand of the LORD the cup of his fury; thou hast drank the dregs of the cup of trembling, and wrung them out.

¹⁵ For thus saith the LORD God of Israel to me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it. ¹⁶ And they shall drink, and be moved, and enraged, because of the sword that I will send among them.

⁷ Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD'S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drank of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

²³ And in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

¹⁰ The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

²³ (55:22)Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he will sustain thee: he will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

²⁷ Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldst send him to my father's house: ²⁸ For I have five brethren; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

¹⁸ Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

¹⁵ Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.

¹⁷ Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly? ¹⁹ How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

¹¹ Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

²² Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

² (40:7)Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou to me.

⁵ Who is like to the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high. ⁶ Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!

⁸ (5:9)Moreover, the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

¹³ Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counselor hath taught him? ¹⁴ With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

²² It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: ²³ That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

⁹ Woe to him that contendeth with his Maker! Let the potsherd contend with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

³⁴ For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counselor?

¹⁶ For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

³ Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more, things that pertain to this life?

⁴ For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved to judgment;

⁶ And the angels who kept not their first state, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness to the judgment of the great day.

¹ And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. ² And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years. ³ And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled; and after that he must be loosed a little season.

¹² And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. ¹⁴ And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. ²⁰ Why is light given to him that is in misery, and life to the bitter in soul;

¹¹ Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

¹⁸ He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.

¹ My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.

²³ When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he is eating.

² A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honor, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat of it, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

¹⁵ What shall I say? he hath both spoken to me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul. ¹⁶ O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. ¹⁷ Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.

¹⁶ Moreover he said to me, Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem: and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with astonishment. ¹⁷ That they may want bread and water, and be astonished one with another, and consume away for their iniquity.

¹⁸ Son of man, eat thy bread with quaking, and drink thy water with trembling and with solicitude.

¹⁸ There the prisoners rest together; they hear not the voice of the oppressor. ¹⁹ The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.

² All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath.

¹¹ Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

⁸ Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same. ⁹ By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed. ¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

³ I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation. ⁴ His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them. ⁵ Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

³ Doth God pervert judgment; or doth the Almighty pervert justice? ⁴ If thy children have sinned against him, and he hath cast them away for their transgression; ⁵ If thou wouldst seek to God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; ⁶ If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous.

²⁰ The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor. ²¹ A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him. ²² He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword. ²³ He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Where is it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand. ²⁴ Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle. ²⁵ For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty. ²⁶ He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers: ²⁷ Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks. ²⁸ And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps. ²⁹ He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth. ³⁰ He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away. ³¹ Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompense. ³² It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green. ³³ He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive. ³⁴ For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery. ³⁵ They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

²⁹ This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.

³ Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

⁷ And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

⁴ (59:3)For lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

⁸⁶ All thy commandments are faithful: they persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.

²² But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering, said to them, What reason ye in your hearts?

¹⁹ For this is thank-worthy, if a man for conscience towards God endureth grief, suffering wrongfully.

²⁶ And he spoke to the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye be consumed in all their sins. ²⁷ So they withdrew from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children. ²⁸ And Moses said, by this ye shall know that the LORD hath sent me to do all these works: for I have not done them of my own mind. ²⁹ If these men shall die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD hath not sent me. ³⁰ But if the LORD shall make a new thing, and the earth shall open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain to them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. ³¹ And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground cleaved asunder that was under them: ³² And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ They, and all that appertained to them went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation. ³⁴ And all Israel that were round about them, fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

³ His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east.

²² They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to naught.

⁷ Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they who have seen him shall say, Where is he?

³⁷ I would declare to him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near to him.

³⁶ Yet he passed away, and lo, he was not: yes, I sought him, but he could not be found.

⁵ (52:3)Thou lovest evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. ⁶ (52:4)Thou lovest all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue.

⁹ Woe to him that coveteth an evil covetousness to his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the power of evil! ¹⁰ Thou hast consulted shame to thy house by cutting off many people, and hast sinned against thy soul. ¹¹ For the stone shall cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the timber shall answer it.

⁴ I will bring it forth, saith the LORD of hosts, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that sweareth falsely by my name: and it shall remain in the midst of his house, and shall consume it with its timber and its stones.

⁸ Neither do they who go by, say, The blessing of the LORD be upon you: we bless you in the name of the LORD.

⁵ The Lord at thy right hand will strike through kings in the day of his wrath.

⁴ Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

⁴ The LORD hath made all things for himself: yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.

² God is jealous, and the LORD avengeth; the LORD avengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

¹⁵ That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasting and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

⁹ The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust to the day of judgment to be punished: ¹⁰ But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, self-willed; they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. ¹¹ Whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. ¹² But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption: ¹³ And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day-time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; ¹⁴ Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: they have a heart exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: ¹⁵ Who have forsaken the right way, and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice, forbad the madness of the prophet. ¹⁷ These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

⁷ But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved to fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

¹³ Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

¹⁷ For the great day of his wrath is come; and who will be able to stand?

¹⁰ And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face.

⁷ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee from the hand of Saul; ⁸ And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given to thee such and such things. ⁹ Why hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. ¹¹ Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thy own house, and I will take thy wives before thy eyes, and give them to thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

¹⁹ And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, Hast thou killed, and also taken possession? And thou shalt speak to him, saying, Thus saith the LORD, In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick thy blood, even thine. ²⁰ And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O my enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD. ²¹ Behold, I will bring evil upon thee, and will take away thy posterity, and will cut off from Ahab the males, and him that is shut up and left in Israel, ²² And will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the provocation with which thou hast provoked me to anger, and made Israel to sin. ²³ And of Jezebel also spoke the LORD, saying, the dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel. ²⁴ Him that dieth of Ahab in the city the dogs shall eat; and him that dieth in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.

¹⁹ God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it.

¹¹ (41:20)Out of his nostrils issueth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.

²¹ These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.

¹³ In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

¹⁸ For John had said to Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife.

²⁵ And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, depart for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.

¹⁹ Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

¹¹ But when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

¹³ For he shall have judgment without mercy that hath shown no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

²¹ The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of the grave with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword. ²² Asshur is there and all her company: his graves are about him: all of them slain, fallen by the sword: ²³ Whose graves are set in the sides of the pit, and her company is around her grave: all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who caused terror in the land of the living. ²⁴ There is Elam and all her multitude around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who are gone down uncircumcised into the nether parts of the earth, who caused their terror in the land of the living; yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit. ²⁵ They have set her a bed in the midst of the slain with all her multitude: her graves are around him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword: though their terror was caused in the land of the living, yet have they borne their shame with them that go down to the pit: he is put in the midst of them that are slain. ²⁶ There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are around him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. ²⁷ And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, who are gone down to the grave, with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living. ²⁸ Yes, thou shalt be broken in the midst of the uncircumcised, and shalt lie with them that are slain with the sword. ²⁹ There is Edom, her kings, and all her princes, who with their might are laid by them that were slain by the sword: they shall lie with the uncircumcised, and with them that go down to the pit. ³⁰ There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Zidonians, who are gone down with the slain; with their terror they are ashamed of their might; and they lie uncircumcised with them that are slain by the sword, and bear their shame with them that go down to the pit. ³¹ Pharaoh shall see them, and shall be comforted over all his multitude, even Pharaoh and all his army slain by the sword, saith the Lord GOD. ³² For I have caused my terror in the land of the living: and he shall be laid in the midst of the uncircumcised with them that are slain with the sword, even Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by angels into Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried:

¹⁹ In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou shalt return to the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and to dust shalt thou return.

¹⁷ There the wicked cease from troubling; and there the weary are at rest.

²² Who rejoice exceedingly, and are glad, when they can find the grave?

¹⁶ They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

²⁴ They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all others, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.

²³ For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

⁴ One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

⁷ Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return to God who gave it.

²⁷ And as it is appointed to men once to die, but after this the judgment:

⁴ But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.
