¹⁰ You shall make the fiftieth year holy, and proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants. It shall be a jubilee to you; and each of you shall return to his own property, and each of you shall return to his family.

² "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹³ "'In this Year of Jubilee each of you shall return to his property.

²⁶ If a man has no one to redeem it, and he becomes prosperous and finds sufficient means to redeem it, ²⁷ then let him reckon the years since its sale, and restore the surplus to the man to whom he sold it; and he shall return to his property. ²⁸ But if he isn’t able to get it back for himself, then what he has sold shall remain in the hand of him who has bought it until the Year of Jubilee. In the Jubilee it shall be released, and he shall return to his property.

³³ "'If any Levite buys back a house, in the jubilee the purchased house in the city will be released. This is because the houses in the Levite cities are their property among the Israelites. ³⁴ But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.

¹⁷ If he gives his field from the year of Jubilee, the value will be fixed by your decision. ¹⁸ But if some time after, the priest shall reckon the money according to the number of years that remain until the jubilee, and the price shall be abated. ¹⁹ And if he that sanctified the field would redeem it, he shall add to its value the fifth part of the money, and it shall be his. ²⁰ "'If you do not buy it back and it is sold to someone else, it may not be redeemed. ²¹ "'When the field is released in the jubilee year, it will be holy like a field claimed by the LORD. It will become the property of the priest. ²² "'If he dedicates to the LORD a field which he has bought, which is not of the field of his possession, ²³ "'The priest must figure out the field's value until the jubilee year. You will pay its value on that day as something holy, belonging to the LORD. ²⁴ In the year of jubilee the field shall return to him from whom he bought it, to him who owns it in the land.

² And they said: the LORD commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the sons of Israel. And my lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters. ³ "Remember, if they marry men of another tribe, their property will then belong to that tribe, and the total allotted to us will be reduced. ⁴ When the Jubilee of the Israelites comes, it will be added to the inheritance of the tribe to which they belong; and their inheritance will disappear from the tribe of our father." ⁵ So by the direction of the Lord, Moses gave orders to the children of Israel, saying, What the tribe of the sons of Joseph have said is right. ⁶ This is the word that the LORD commanded the daughters of Zelophehad, saying, 'Let them marry whomever they like; only they must marry from within the clan of the tribe of their father. ⁷ So shall no inheritance of the children of Israel move from tribe to tribe; for the children of Israel shall all keep the inheritance of the tribe of his fathers. ⁸ "Every woman who inherits property in an Israelite tribe must marry a man belonging to that tribe. In this way all Israelites will inherit the property of their ancestors, ⁹ and the property will not pass from one tribe to another. Each tribe will continue to possess its own property."

³ Whosoever now among you is of his people, the LORD his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel. He is the God that is at Jerusalem.

⁷ He executes justice for the oppressed. He gives food to the hungry. the LORD sets the prisoners free.

⁹ to say to the bound, Come! To them in darkness, Expose! They graze in the ways with their pastures in all the barrens:

²⁴ Can prey be taken from a warrior? Or can prisoners of a tyrant be rescued? ²⁵ But Yahweh says, “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the plunder retrieved from the fierce, for I will contend with him who contends with you and I will save your children.

¹ The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound; ² to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; ³ to give for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, to show his glory.

⁴ For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come.

⁸ The Word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, after King Zedekiah had cut a covenant with all the people at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them,

¹³ "This is what the LORD God of Israel says: 'I made a covenant with your ancestors on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. I told them: ¹⁴ "Every seven years each of you must free any Hebrews who sold themselves to you. When they have served you for six years, you must set them free. But your ancestors refused to obey me or listen to me. ¹⁵ You recently repented and did what was right in my eyes by proclaiming release for one another, and you made a covenant before me in the house that is called by my name. ¹⁶ But then you turned around and profaned my name when each of you took back his male and female slaves whom you had set free according to their desire, and you forced them to become male and female slaves."' ¹⁷ "Therefore, this is what the LORD says: 'You haven't obeyed me by each of you proclaiming a release for your brothers and neighbors. Now I'm going to proclaim a release for you,' declares the LORD, 'a release to the sword, to plague, and to famine, and I'll make you a horrifying sight to all the kingdoms of the earth.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from the waterless pit. ¹² Turn to the fortress, you prisoners of hope: even today I tell you that I return double to you;

⁷⁴ to be redeemed from the hand of our enemies; and that we should worship before him, without fear,

¹⁶ Then he came to Nazaret, where he had been brought up, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue as was his custom. He stood up to read the lesson ¹⁷ the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. Unrolling it, He found the place where it was written: ¹⁸ “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, ¹⁹ to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” ²⁰ Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him. ²¹ And he began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

³² Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ³³ They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free?'" ³⁴ Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. ³⁵ A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son belongs to it forever. ³⁶ So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

²⁵ Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children.

¹³ For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.

¹⁶ Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a covering for evil; live as servants of God.

¹⁹ They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to corruption. For a man is a slave to whatever has overcome him. ²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled by them, and overcome, they are worse off in the end than at the beginning.
