¹ But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. ² At daybreak he appeared again in the temple, and all the people came to him. So he sat down and began to teach them. ³ The scribes and Pharisees, however, brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before them ⁴ and said, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. ⁵ In our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now, what do you say?" ⁶ They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger. ⁷ When they persisted in questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." ⁸ And again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. ⁹ When they heard this, they began to go away one by one, beginning with the older ones, until only Jesus was left, with the woman standing there. ¹⁰ Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?" ¹¹ “No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.” ¹² Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” ¹³ The Pharisees said to him, "You are testifying about yourself. Your testimony is not valid." ¹⁴ Jesus answered them, "Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you do not know where I came from, or where I am going. ¹⁵ You judge by the outside. I judge no one; ¹⁶ Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself--with me is the Father who sent me. ¹⁷ Even in your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid. ¹⁸ I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me." ¹⁹ Then they asked him, Where is your Father? Jesus answered, You know neither me nor my Father: if you knew me, you would know my Father also. ²⁰ He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts, near the treasury. Yet no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come. ²¹ Again He said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for Me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.” ²² So the Jews said, "Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, 'Where I go, you cannot come'?" ²³ Then He told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. ²⁴ I told you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins. ²⁵ “Who are You?” they asked. “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied. ²⁶ “I have much to say about you and much to judge. But the One who sent Me is truthful, and what I have heard from Him, I tell the world.” ²⁷ They did not understand that He was telling them about the Father. ²⁸ So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me. ²⁹ Moreover, he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone; for I always do what pleases him." ³⁰ While he spoke thus, many believed on him. ³¹ So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples. ³² Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” ³³ They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free?'" ³⁴ Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. ³⁵ A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son belongs to it forever. ³⁶ So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ³⁷ I know you are Abraham’s descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you. ³⁸ I am telling you what I have seen in my Father's presence, and you are practicing what you have learned from your father." ³⁹ "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you are indeed Abraham's children," said Jesus "do the deeds of Abraham. ⁴⁰ But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing. ⁴¹ You are doing the works of your father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they declared. “Our only Father is God Himself.” ⁴² Jesus said to them, "If God were your father you would love me; for I came forth from God and am now here. For I have not come of myself, but he sent me. ⁴³ Why do you not understand what I say? Because you are unable to hear My word. ⁴⁴ You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies. ⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? ⁴⁷ Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” ⁴⁸ The Jews answered, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed?" ⁴⁹ "I am not possessed by a demon," replied Jesus. "On the contrary I honour my Father, and you dishonour me. ⁵⁰ I do not seek my own glory: but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge. ⁵¹ Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word he will never see death." ⁵² Then the Jews said to him, "Now we really know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.' ⁵³ Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you claim to be?" ⁵⁴ Jesus answered: "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. My Father glorifies me. He is the one whom you say is your God. ⁵⁵ But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word. ⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced that he could see my day, and he saw it, and was glad. ⁵⁷ "You are not yet fifty years old," said the Jews to him, "and you have seen Abraham?" ⁵⁸ “Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!” ⁵⁹ At this, they picked up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus hid Himself and slipped away from the temple area.

¹ As they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent out two disciples.

³ While Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately,

³⁷ When he had almost reached the place where the road led down the Mount of Olives, every one of the many disciples began in their joy to praise God loudly for all the miracles that they had seen:

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

³ "From the thirteenth year of the reign of Ammon's son Josiah, the king of Judah, until the present time, for 23 years the word of the LORD has come to me, and I've spoken to you again and again, but you haven't listened.

⁴ "'I kept sending you my servants the prophets, who told you not to do this terrible thing that I hate.

¹ When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain and sat down. His disciples came to Him, ² and he began to teach them, saying:

⁵⁵ At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.

²⁰ Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.

³ So he entered one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to push out a little from the land. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.

³⁷ Every day Jesus taught at the temple, but every evening He went out to spend the night on the Mount of Olives.

³⁴ "My food," replied Jesus, "is to do the will of him who sent me, and to complete his work.

²⁰ He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts, near the treasury. Yet no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.

¹⁰ And a man who commits adultery with a man's wife, who commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, the adulterer and the adulteress are surely to be put to death.

²¹ they will take the girl to the doorway of her father's house. The men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel by playing the harlot in her father's house. You must purge the evil from among you. ²² "If a man is found lying with a married woman, then they shall both die; both of them, the man who lay with the woman and the woman also, so you shall purge the evil from Israel. ²³ "If a man meets a young virgin lady engaged to be married in the city and has sexual relations with her, ²⁴ "You must bring them both out to the gate of that city and you must stone them to death! The girl did not protest what was happening and the man has violated his neighbor's woman. Thus you shall purge the evil from among you.

³⁸ "I will judge you like women who commit adultery or shed blood are judged. I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy. ³⁹ I will also give you into their hand, and they will throw down your vaulted place, and break down your lofty places. They will strip you of your clothes, and take your beautiful jewels. They will leave you naked and bare. ⁴⁰ "They will incite a crowd against you and they will stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords.

⁴⁷ these shall stone them and gore them with their swords. They shall slay their sons and daughters and burn up their houses with fire.

¹⁷ Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them.

⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." ⁷ “Why then,” they asked, “did Moses order a man to give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?” ⁸ He said to them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, on account of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not so from the beginning.

¹⁶ They sent their disciples to Him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that You are honest and that You teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You defer to no one, because You pay no attention to external appearance. ¹⁷ Tell us, then, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their malice, said, Hypocrites! Why do ye try me?

⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp. My son, you have risen up from the prey; he stoops, he crouches like a lion; and like a lioness, who can rouse him?

²² For all the men having seen my glory and my signs which I did in Egypt and in the desert, and they will try me this ten times, they heard not to my voice.

¹² Those who seek my life lay traps for me. Those who are out to harm me talk about ruining me. All day long they think of ways to deceive me. ¹³ I am like the deaf, who cannot hear, and like the mute, who cannot open his mouth. ¹⁴ So I have become like a man who is not hearing, In whose mouth there are no reproofs."

¹ For the music director. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David. I said, "I will guard my ways that I may not sin with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me."

¹⁷ Like one who grabs a dog’s ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.

⁷ a time to tear, and a time to mend; a time to be silent, and a time to speak;

¹³ LORD, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn aside from you will be written in the dust, because they have forsaken the LORD, the spring of living water.

⁵ In the same hour the fingers of a man's hand appeared, and wrote above the lamp stand on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace. The king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

¹⁰ You hate the one who reproves in the gate, and abhor him who speaks the truth (with integrity).

¹³ therefore the prudent person remains silent at such a time, for the time is evil.

¹⁶ Look, I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.

²³ But Jesus did not answer a word. So His disciples came and urged Him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”

¹ The Pharisees and Sadducees came up and to test him asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?"

¹⁸ But Jesus, knowing their malice, said, Hypocrites! Why do ye try me?

³⁵ One of them, an expert in the law, tested Him with a question:

⁶³ But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I charge you under oath by the living God: tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God."

¹¹ Then the Pharisees came and began to argue with Jesus. They tested Him by demanding from Him a sign from heaven.

² Some Pharisees came to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

¹⁵ Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why do you put me to the test? Bring me a denarius, and let me look at it."

²⁵ One day an expert in the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

¹⁶ Others tested him demanding a sign from heaven.

⁵³ As Jesus was leaving, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely, interrogating him about many things. ⁵⁴ waiting to catch Him in something He might say.

²⁰ Keeping a close watch on Him, they sent spies, who pretended to be innocent, so that they might latch on to some thing He said, so as to hand Him over to the power and the authority of the governor. ²¹ So they questioned Him, saying: “Teacher, we know that you speak and teach what is right, and you do not show favoritism but teach the way of God in truth. ²² Is it right for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" ²³ He saw through their cunning and said to them,

² At daybreak he appeared again in the temple, and all the people came to him. So he sat down and began to teach them.

⁹ We should not test Christ, as some of them did, and were killed by snakes.

⁶ On the testimony of two or three witnesses the guilty person shall be put to death; but shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness. ⁷ The hands of the witnesses will be the first to put him to death, and after them the hands of all the people. So you are to put away the evil from among you.

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to recite my statutes and mention my covenant with your mouth, ¹⁷ You hate instruction and toss my words behind you. ¹⁸ If you saw a thief, you ran along with him, and have cast in your lot with adulterers. ¹⁹ you spread your mouth to evil and contrive your tongue to deceit: ²⁰ You sit; you speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.

¹⁸ The babbler is like the stabs of a sword; and the tongue of the wise is healing.

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, or he will be wise in his own pride.

²⁹ Is not my word like fire? says the LORD and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

¹ Do not judge, or you will be judged. ² For with the same judgment you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. ³ And why do you look for the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye but ignore the board in your own eye? ⁴ Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is a plank in your own eye? ⁵ You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.

²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. ²⁶ Blind Pharisee, first wash clean the inside of the cup or dish, and then the outside will be clean also. ²⁷ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside, but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity. ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you also appear righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

⁴⁶ "No man has ever spoken the way he speaks," they replied.

¹ You therefore have no excuse, you who pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. ² And we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. ³ So when you, O man, pass judgment on others, yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment?

²¹ you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? ²² You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? ²⁴ As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ²⁵ Circumcision has value if you observe the Law, but if you break the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.

²⁴ But if an unbeliever or uninstructed person comes in while everyone is prophesying, he will be convicted and called to account by all, ²⁵ and the secrets of his heart will be revealed. So he will fall facedown and worship God, proclaiming, “God is truly among you!”

⁶ Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

¹² For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

¹⁶ In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp, two-edged sword. His face was like the sun when it shines with full force.

¹⁶ Repent therefore, or else I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

¹⁵ And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and He will rule them with an iron scepter. He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God, the Almighty.

²¹ They said to one another: "Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw his distress when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us." ²² Reuben said: "Did I not tell you? Did I say, 'Do not sin against the boy'? You would not listen! Now comes the reckoning for his blood."

⁴⁴ The king said moreover to Shimei, “You know in your heart all the wickedness that you did to David my father. Therefore the LORD will return your wickedness on your own head.

¹⁸ She said to Elijah, "What do you have against me, O man of God, that you have come to me to make known my guilt and to cause my son to die?"

¹² He frustrates the plans of the crafty; so that what they work for never succeeds. ¹³ He is capturing the wise in their craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are rushed.

⁵ "The success of the wicked is brief and the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.

²⁷ "The heavens will expose his guilt. The earth will rise up against him!

¹⁵ The nations have sunk into the pit they made; their foot is caught in the net they hid. ¹⁶ the LORD is known [by] the judgment he hath executed: the wicked is ensnared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

¹⁴ Let all those who seek to end my life be confused and put to shame. Let those who want my downfall be turned back and disgraced.

²¹ These things you have done, and I have kept silence; you thought that I was like yourself, but I will rebuke you, and set in order before your eyes.

¹³ Let my adversaries be ashamed and consumed; let those who seek my destruction be covered with scorn and disgrace.

²² for often your own heart knows that you yourself have likewise cursed others.

¹⁴ King Herod heard of it, for Jesus' name had become well known. Some said, "John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and that is why these powers are at work in him." ¹⁵ Others said, He is Elijah. And others said, He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old. ¹⁶ But when Herod heard this, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, has been raised from the dead!”

¹ In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ² There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. ³ What you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.

¹⁷ When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, and all the people were delighted at all the splendid things that he did.

¹⁰ Jesus straightened up and said to her, "Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"

¹² Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹⁵ They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing them

²² You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?

²⁰ whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything.

¹¹ "All who rage against you will be ashamed and disgraced. Those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. ¹² "Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all.

¹⁸ "Appoint judges and officers for your tribes in every city the LORD your God gives you. They are to judge the people fairly.

⁹ You shall come to the priests who are Levites and to the judge who shall be in those days. You shall inquire, and they shall give you the verdict.

³¹ "For has any said to God, 'I am guilty, but I will not offend any more.

¹³ He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

¹⁶ "Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do well—Seek justice, Correct the oppressor,—Vindicate the fatherless, Plead the cause of the widow, ¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found. Call on him while he is near.

³⁰ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, each one according to his ways, says the Sovereign LORD. Return and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity will not be your ruin. ³¹ Cast away from you all your sins by which you have sinned; and make you a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel? ³² For I have no pleasure in the death of the dying," declares the Sovereign LORD. "And so repent and live!"

²⁸ “But what do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ ²⁹ ‘I will not,’ he replied. But later he changed his mind and went. ³⁰ Then the father went to the other son and told him the same thing. He replied, 'I will, sir,' but he didn't go. ³¹ Which of the two did what his father wanted?" They said, "The second one." Jesus said to them, "I tell you, the tax-collectors and prostitutes are going into the Kingdom of God ahead of you.

³² I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

⁵⁶ and they went to another village.

¹³ Someone in the crowd said to him, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me." ¹⁴ But Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed Me judge or executor between you?”

³ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.

⁵ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

⁷ I tell you that in the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

¹⁰ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

³² But it was fitting to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

¹⁷ For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the Temple, and said to him, "See! You are well again. Give up sin, or something worse may happen to you."

¹⁵ You judge by the outside. I judge no one;

³⁶ Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now, My kingdom is not of this realm.”

⁴ Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness, tolerance, and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you to repentance?

²⁰ The Law was given so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more, ²¹ so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness, to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

³ For rulers are not a terror for those who do good works, but to those who do evil. Do you want to have no fear of the one in authority? do that which is good, and you shall have his praise: ⁴ For he is God's servant to you for good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is God's servant, an avenger to execute wrath on the wrongdoer.

¹² What business of mine is it to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside?

¹⁵ It is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinnersof whom I am the foremost. ¹⁶ But for this very reason I was shown mercy, so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His perfect patience, as an example to those who would believe in Him for eternal life.

¹⁵ Consider also that our Lord’s patience brings salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom God gave him.

²¹ Even though I have given her time to repent of her immorality, she is unwilling. ²² So I will cast her on a sickbed, and I will throw those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her ways.

²⁸ "He redeemed me from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.

²⁸ O LORD, you light my lamp. My God turns my darkness into light.

¹⁹ he will go to the generation of his fathers. They will never see the light.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

² The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who lived in the land of the shadow of death, on them the light has shined.

⁶ “I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness. I will hold your hand. I will keep you, and make you a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations, ⁷ To open eyes that are blind,—To bring forth Out of the dungeon the captive Out of the prison, the dwellers in darkness.

⁶ yes, he says, It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.

¹⁰ Who among you fears the LORD, who obeys the voice of His servant, who walks in darkness and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD and rest on his God.

¹ Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. ² For look! darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples, but the LORD will rise on you, and his glory will appear over you. ³ Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

³ Let us acknowledge the LORD. Let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, The LORD will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth."

² But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like fattened calves.

¹⁴ to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: ¹⁵ “Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— ¹⁶ the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.”

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

⁷⁸ because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the Dawn will visit us from on high, ⁷⁹ to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

³² a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel."

⁴ In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. ⁵ This light shines in the darkness, but the darkness cannot understand it. ⁶ There came a man who was sent from God. His name was John. ⁷ This man came as a witness, to testify concerning the light, that through him, all might believe. ⁸ He himself was not the light: he was sent to give witness about the light. ⁹ The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

¹⁹ And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether My teaching is from God or whether I speak on My own.

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

⁴⁶ I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should remain in darkness.

⁶ Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

⁴⁷ For this is what the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’”

²³ that Christ would suffer, and as the first to rise from the dead, He would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles.”

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

¹⁷ These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.

⁶ And the angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, he has kept in eternal chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day,

¹³ They are wild waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.

²⁴ The nations will walk by its light; the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it.

³¹ “If I testify about myself my testimony is not valid. ³² There is another who testifies about Me, and I know that His testimony about Me is valid. ³³ You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth. ³⁴ But as for me, I do not receive human testimony, but mention this that you may be saved. ³⁵ John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you were willing for a season to bask in his light. ³⁶ But I have testimony more substantial than that of John. For the works that the Father has given Me to accomplish—the very works I am doing—testify about Me that the Father has sent Me. ³⁷ And the Father who sent me has himself testified of me. You have never heard his voice, nor seen his form. ³⁸ nor does His word abide in you, because you do not believe the One He sent. ³⁹ You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me, ⁴⁰ yet you refuse to come to Me to have life. ⁴¹ I do not accept glory from men, ⁴² but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you refuse to accept me. If someone else comes in his own name you will accept him. ⁴⁴ How can you believe if you accept glory from one another, yet do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? ⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, in whom you have put your hope. ⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. ⁴⁷ But since you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

³ Now the man, Moses, was more humble than any other person on the face of the earth,

¹⁴ Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes the king, twelve years, I and my brethren have not eaten the bread of the governor. ¹⁵ But the former governors that were before me laid burdens upon the people, and took of them for bread and wine above forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants lorded over the people; but so did not I, because of the fear of God. ¹⁶ I also devoted myself to the work of this wall, and we did not buy land. All of my servants were gathered for the work. ¹⁷ There is more, a hundred and fifty of the Jews and the rulers were guests at my table, in addition to those who came to us from the nations nearby. ¹⁸ Now that which was prepared for me daily was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days abundant stores of all sorts of wine: yet for all this required not I the food allowance of the governor, because the bondage was heavy upon this people. ¹⁹ "Remember me with favor, my God, for everything I've done for this people."

²⁷ But we know where this man is from; when the Christ comes, no one will know where he is from." ²⁸ Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “You know Me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on My own accord, but He who sent Me is true. You do not know Him, ²⁹ but I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.

⁴² Jesus said to them, "If God were your father you would love me; for I came forth from God and am now here. For I have not come of myself, but he sent me.

²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses; but as for this fellow we do not know where he comes from." ³⁰ The man answered, "Why, this is a marvel! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes.

¹⁵ (just as the Father knows me and I know the Father,) and I lay down my life for the sheep.

³⁶ then what about the One whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world? How then can you accuse Me of blasphemy for stating that I am the Son of God?

³ Jesus knew that the Father had delivered all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was returning to God.

¹⁰ Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own; rather it is the Father who dwells in me who does the works.

²⁸ I did come from the Father and enter the world. Now I am leaving the world again and going back to the Father."

⁸ For I have given them the words You gave Me, and they have received them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me.

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, who should be praised forever, knows that I am not lying.

¹¹ I have been a fool! You forced me to it, for I ought to have been commended by you. For I was not in the least inferior to these super-apostles, even though I am nothing.

¹⁹ Have you been thinking all this time that we have been defending ourselves before you? In the sight of God we speak in Christ; and all things, beloved, are for your edifying.

¹⁴ To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God’s creation.

⁷ But the LORD said to Samuel, Don't look at his appearance or height, because I have rejected him. I do not look at the things man looks at; man looks at the outward appearance but the LORD looks at the heart.

¹ Do you indeed speak righteousness, silent ones? Do you judge blamelessly, you sons of men? ² No, in your heart you plan injustices; in the land you weigh out the violence of your hands.

²⁰ Can wicked rulers be allied with you? They frame mischief by decree (the law). ²¹ They gather together against the righteous, condemning the innocent to death.

⁷ Ah, you who turn justice into wormwood and hurl righteousness to the ground!

¹² Do horses run on the rocky crags? Does one plow there with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into bitterness;

⁴ Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice never prevails; for the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice comes out perverted.

¹⁴ But Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed Me judge or executor between you?”

²⁴ Stop judging by appearances, but judge with righteous judgment!"

¹¹ “No one, Lord,” she answered. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Now go and sin no more.”

⁴⁷ As for anyone who hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world.

¹ You therefore have no excuse, you who pass judgment on another. For on whatever grounds you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

¹⁵ The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment.

³ I care very little, however, if I am judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. ⁴ My conscience is clear, but that does not vindicate me. It is the Lord who judges me. ⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

⁴ have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

⁶ Your throne, O God, is forever and ever. A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. ⁷ You love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you from among your companions with festive oil.

¹ By Solomon. God, give the king your justice; your righteousness to the royal son. ² He will judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

⁹ Let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

⁴ The King's strength also loves justice. You do establish equity. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom. He will establish and uphold it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

² The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. ³ His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked. ⁵ Righteousness will be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his waist.

¹ Behold, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule in justice. ² And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the storm; as brooks of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

⁵ "The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch. He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell safely. This is his name by which he will be called: the LORD our righteousness.

⁹ Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem. Look, your king comes to you. He is righteous, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life. ²⁵ Truly, truly, I tell you, the hour is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself; so he has granted to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ and he has given him authority to judge, because he is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His voice ²⁹ And will come out--those who have done good rising to Life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation. ³⁰ I can do nothing of myself; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not to please myself, but to please him who sent me.

²⁹ Moreover, he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone; for I always do what pleases him."

³² Behold, an hour is coming and has come, when you will be scattered, each to the own, and I, you shall leave alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with Me.

³¹ For He has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising Him from the dead.”

¹¹ Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war.

⁶ On the testimony of two or three witnesses the guilty person shall be put to death; but shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness.

¹⁵ "One witness is not enough to convict someone of a crime, offense, or sin he may have committed. Cases must be settled based on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

¹⁰ Set two men, base fellows, before him, and let them testify against him, saying, 'You cursed God and the king.' Then carry him out, and stone him to death."

¹⁶ But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’

³⁴ Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I have say ye are gods?'

²⁵ But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated Me without reason.’

¹ This will be my third visit to you. Any charge must be sustained by the evidence of two or three witnesses.

²⁴ So the law was our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

²¹ Tell me, you who want to be under the Law, do you not understand what the Law says?

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the Law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

⁹ If we accept human testimony, God's testimony is greater, because it is the testimony of God and because he has testified about his Son.

³ And I will authorize My two witnesses to prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.

²⁵ “Who are You?” they asked. “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning,” Jesus replied.

³⁸ I am telling you what I have seen in my Father's presence, and you are practicing what you have learned from your father."

⁵¹ Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps my word he will never see death."

⁵⁸ “Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

⁹ I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.

¹¹ I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me

³⁰ I and the Father are one."

²⁵ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies.

⁴ God also testified about it with signs, wonders, and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit given according to his will.

⁶ This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ—not by water alone, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies to this, because the Spirit is the truth. ⁷ For there are three that testify: ⁸ the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are in agreement. ⁹ If we accept human testimony, God's testimony is greater, because it is the testimony of God and because he has testified about his Son. ¹⁰ Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him; whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about His Son. ¹¹ And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, ¹⁸ the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades.

¹⁶ He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy. Then it was well. "Is that not what it means to know me?" Says the LORD.

⁷ I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God; for they will return to me with their whole heart.

²⁵ At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

²¹ At that time, Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was well-pleasing in Your sight. ²² All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

¹⁰ He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time. The only Son, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

²⁸ Then Jesus, still teaching in the temple courts, cried out, “You know Me, and you know where I am from. I have not come on My own accord, but He who sent Me is true. You do not know Him,

⁵⁴ Jesus answered: "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. My Father glorifies me. He is the one whom you say is your God. ⁵⁵ But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word.

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me ¹⁵ (just as the Father knows me and I know the Father,) and I lay down my life for the sheep.

⁶ Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. ⁷ If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.” ⁸ Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us." ⁹ Jesus said to him, "Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, 'Show us the Father?'

²¹ But they will treat you like this on account of My name, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

³ They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.

³ Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

²⁵ Righteous Father, though the world did not know you, I knew you, and these men knew that you had sent me. ²⁶ I made your name known to them, and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have for me may be in them and I myself may be in them."

³⁴ Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame.

⁴ The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. ⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

⁹ But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

¹⁷ and asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him.

¹⁰ so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

¹⁵ He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

³ The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ does not have God; he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

²⁶ But the four principal gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the responsibility for the rooms and treasuries in the house of God.

⁶ The chief priests picked up the pieces of silver and said, “It is unlawful to put this into the treasury, since it is blood money.”

⁴¹ As Jesus was sitting opposite the treasury, He watched the crowd placing money into it. And many rich people put in large amounts.

⁴³ And he called his disciples to him, and said to them, Truly I say to you, That this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others:

³¹ At that very hour, some Pharisees came to Jesus and told Him, “Leave this place and get away, because Herod wants to kill You.” ³² But Jesus replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘Look, I will keep driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach My goal.’ ³³ But I must go on today and tomorrow and the next day, for it is not right for a prophet to die outside Jerusalem.'

¹⁹ The scribes and the high priests were eager to lay hands on him at that very time, for they knew that he had aimed the illustration at them; but they were afraid of the people.

⁸ You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled."

³⁰ Then they tried to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him because his hour had not yet come.

⁴⁴ Some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid a hand on Him.

⁵⁹ At this, they picked up stones to throw at Him. But Jesus hid Himself and slipped away from the temple area.

³⁹ Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped from their hands

⁹ Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? If anyone walks in the daytime, he will not stumble, because he sees by the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if anyone walks at night, he will stumble, because he has no light.”

¹⁰ As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom where my lord has not sent to seek you; and when they said, He is not here, then he caused the kingdom and the nation to swear that it did not find you.

¹⁶ They said: "There are fifty of us here. We are all strong men. Let us go and look for your master. Maybe the Spirit of the LORD has carried him away and left him on some mountain or in some valley." Elisha answered: "You must not go." ¹⁷ And they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, Send. And they sent fifty men. And they looked for three days, but did not find him.

¹¹ "The youthful vigor that fills his bones will lie with him in the dust.

¹⁸ Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down into ruin. ¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

⁷ When a wicked man dies, hope perishes, and expectation of power comes to nothing.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

²⁰ "Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years. He who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth. The sinner who reaches a hundred will be considered accursed.

¹⁸ "When I tell a wicked man that he will surely die, but you do not warn him or speak out so that he can change his wicked way in order to save his life; that wicked man will die because of his sin. I will hold you responsible for his death. ¹⁹ Yet if you warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your soul.

³⁹ For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"

²³ At that time, if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There He is,’ do not believe it. ²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible.

⁴¹ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

²² Now it happened that the poor man died, and the angels carried him into AbrahamÆs bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. ²³ In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham from afar, with Lazarus by his side. ²⁴ So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ ²⁵ But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and Lazarus received evil things; but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. ²⁶ And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

³⁴ You will look for Me, but you will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.”

²⁴ I told you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.

³³ He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

³³ Little children, I am with you only a little longer. You will look for me, but what I told the Jews I now tell you, 'Where I am going, you cannot come.'

¹⁷ And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. ¹⁸ Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost.

¹ As for you, you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

⁶ But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by humankind and despised by people.

¹⁸ Let the lying lips be put to silence; who speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

⁴ For long enough have men of pride made sport of our soul.

²⁰ “You have a demon,” the crowd replied. “Who is trying to kill You?”

³⁵ The Jews said to one another, "Where is this man going that we shall not find him? Will he go to the Jews who are scattered among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?

⁴⁸ The Jews answered, "Are we not right in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed?"

⁵² Then the Jews said to him, "Now we really know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.'

²⁰ Many of them said, "He is possessed and mad! Why do you listen to him?"

³ Consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

¹³ Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore.

⁴ As for the deeds of men, by the word of your lips, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent.

¹⁴ The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

¹³ No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man.

³¹ The One who comes from above is above all. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth. The One who comes from heaven is above all.

¹⁸ If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me first, ¹⁹ If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world--that is why the world hates you.

¹⁴ I have given them Your word and the world has hated them; for they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ They are not of the world even as I am not of the world.

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s Law, nor can it do so. ⁸ Those controlled by the flesh cannot please God.

⁴⁷ The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. ⁴⁸ As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.

¹⁹ Their destiny is destruction, their god is their belly, and their glory is in their shame. Their minds are set on worldly things. ²⁰ But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, ²¹ who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.

¹⁵ Such wisdom does not come from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. ¹⁶ For where there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there is disorder and every evil practice. ¹⁷ But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and sincere.

⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God.

¹⁵ Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For the things in the world--the cravings of the earthly nature, the cravings of the eyes, the show and pride of life--they all come, not from the Father, but from the world.

⁵ They are of the world and therefore speak as of the world, and the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. That is how we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.

¹⁹ We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one. ²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true—in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

³⁶ "But he who sins against me wrongs himself. All who hate me love death."

⁶ Many will come in My name, claiming, ‘I am He,’ and will deceive many.

¹⁶ Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

⁸ And he said, Watch out that you are not deceived! For many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time is near!' Do not go after them!

¹⁸ Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”

²⁶ Jesus answered, “I who speak to you am He.”

²¹ Again He said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for Me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”

¹⁹ I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am.

¹² Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

³ how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

²⁶ If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains, ²⁷ but only a terrifying prospect of judgment and a raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. ²⁸ Anyone who rejected the Law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace?

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less shall we escape, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?

⁶⁷ “If You are the Christ, tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe.

¹⁹ And this was John’s testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, “Who are you?”

²² They said therefore to him, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"

¹⁷ But Jesus said to them, “My Father is continuing to work and I am working.” ¹⁸ Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God. ¹⁹ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, the Son also does. ²⁰ The Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does. And to your amazement, He will show Him even greater works than these. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to those whom he will. ²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life. ²⁵ Truly, truly, I tell you, the hour is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself; so he has granted to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ and he has given him authority to judge, because he is the Son of Man. ²⁸ Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear His voice ²⁹ And will come out--those who have done good rising to Life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation.

²⁴ So the Jews gathered round him and said to him, "How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly."

⁹ and he went back into the Praetorium. “Where are You from?” he asked. But Jesus gave no answer.

³² He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony. ³³ Whoever accepts His testimony has certified that God is truthful.

⁴² but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you refuse to accept me. If someone else comes in his own name you will accept him.

¹⁶ So Jesus answered, "My teaching is not my own; it comes from him who has sent me.

¹⁶ Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself--with me is the Father who sent me. ¹⁷ Even in your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid.

⁴⁰ But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.

³⁹ Then Jesus declared, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind may see and those who see may become blind.” ⁴⁰ Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard this, and they asked Him, “Are we blind too?” ⁴¹ “If you were blind,” Jesus replied, “you would not be guilty of sin. But since you claim you can see, your guilt remains.”

⁴⁷ As for anyone who hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸ There is a judge for the one who rejects Me and does not receive My words: The word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day. ⁴⁹ For I did not speak of myself; but the Father who sent me, he commanded me what to say and what to speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that His command leads to eternal life. So I speak exactly what the Father has told Me to say.”

¹⁵ I no longer call you servants, because the servant knows not what his master does. But I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you.

¹² I have still much to say to you, but you cannot bear it now.

¹⁸ But as surely as God is faithful, our message to you is not “Yes” and “No.”

¹¹ We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain, because you are dull of hearing. ¹² Although by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to reteach you the basic principles of God’s word. You need milk, not solid food!

⁹ He said, “Go, and tell this people, ‘You hear indeed, but don’t understand. You see indeed, but don’t perceive.’

¹⁸ Hear, you deaf! And look, you blind, and see! ¹⁹ Who is blind but my servant or deaf like my messenger whom I sent? Who is blind like the one who is repaid or blind like the servant of the LORD? ²⁰ You see many things, but do not pay attention. Your ears are open, but not any hears.

¹⁰ We grope like the blind along a wall, and we grope as without eyes. We stumble at noon as in the twilight; among the strong we are like the dead.

⁴³ Why do you not understand what I say? Because you are unable to hear My word.

⁴⁷ Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

⁷ What then? What Israel was seeking, it failed to obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened, ⁸ as it is written: "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, down to this very day." ⁹ And David says: "Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.”

³ And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. ⁴ The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

²⁸ Moses said: "This is how you will know that the LORD sent me to do all these things and that it wasn’t my idea: ²⁹ "If these men die a natural death like all other people the LORD has not sent me. ³⁰ "But if the LORD does something totally new, if the ground opens up, swallows them and everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive to their graves; then you will know that these men have treated the LORD with contempt."

⁵⁰ When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit. ⁵¹ At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked and the rocks were split. ⁵² The tombs broke open, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. ⁵³ and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection, they went into the holy city and appeared to many. ⁵⁴ When the centurion and those with him guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified and said, “Truly this was the Son of God.”

¹¹ Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony.

¹⁴ Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

¹⁹ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but only what he sees the Father doing; for whatever he does, the Son also does.

³⁰ I can do nothing of myself; as I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I seek not to please myself, but to please him who sent me.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me.

⁴² I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing by, that they may believe that you sent me."

³² But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." ³³ He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die. ³⁴ The crowd replied, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever. So how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

¹⁰ in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will no longer see Me;

¹⁸ where they crucified him, and with him two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the middle.

⁴¹ Those who embraced his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to the believers that day.

⁴ But many who heard the message believed, and the number of men grew to about five thousand.

⁴ and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by His resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to all men, ¹⁶ By hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved, thus always filling up their sins to the limit: but wrath has come upon them at last.

² For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment, ³ how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? This salvation was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,

¹ "Look my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom my soul delights. I have put my Spirit on him; he will bring justice to the nations.

⁶ “I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness. I will hold your hand. I will keep you, and make you a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations,

²¹ The LORD was pleased, for His righteousness' sake, to make the teaching great and glorious.

⁴ But I said, “I have labored in vain. I have spent my strength in vain for nothing; yet surely the justice due to me is with the LORD, and my reward with my God.” ⁵ And now the LORD says, who formed me from the womb as a servant for him, to bring Jacob back to him, and that Israel might not be gathered, for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength. ⁶ yes, he says, It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth. ⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to the one who is despised, to the abhorred of the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of the LORD who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you." ⁸ Thus says the LORD, "In a season acceptable I answer you. And in a day of salvation I help you. And I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to set up the land, to allot the desolated allotments,

⁴ The Sovereign LORD has given Me the tongue of the learned, to know to help the weary with a word. He wakens morning by morning, He wakens the ear to hear as the learned. ⁵ The Sovereign LORD has opened my ear. I was not rebellious. I have not turned back. ⁶ I gave my back to those who struck me, and my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from insults and spittle. ⁷ For the Sovereign LORD will help me. Therefore I have not been confounded. Therefore I have set my face like a flint and I know that I will not be put to shame. ⁸ He who justifies me is near. Who will bring charges against me? Let us stand up together. Who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. ⁹ Behold, the Sovereign LORD will help Me; who is he who shall condemn Me? Lo, they all shall wear out like a garment; the moth shall eat them.

¹⁷ and lo! a voice from heaven said,"This is my son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

⁵ While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!”

¹⁶ Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself--with me is the Father who sent me.

¹⁰ Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own; rather it is the Father who dwells in me who does the works. ¹¹ Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me—or at least believe on account of the works themselves.

³¹ but that the world may know that I love the Father, and that I do as the Father hath commanded me. Arise, let us go hence.

¹⁰ "If you obey my commands you will abide in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and abide in his love.

⁴ I am honoring you [while] on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.

²² The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

¹⁵ For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.

⁸ Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered, ⁹ and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,

²⁶ We need such a high priest {— } one who is holy, innocent, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens.

⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; ⁶ with burnt offerings and sin offerings You were not pleased. ⁷ Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’” ⁸ First He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor were You pleased with them” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹ Then He adds, “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

¹ My little children, I write this to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

²³ While He was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the signs He was doing and believed in His name.

¹⁴ When the people saw the sign that Jesus did, they said, "Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world."

³¹ And many of the people believed in him, and said, When the Christ comes, will he do more miraculous signs than this man has done?

⁴² And many in that place believed in Jesus.

⁴⁵ Therefore many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in Him.

¹⁴ If you fear the LORD, serve him, obey him, and don't rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then both you and the king who rules over you will truly follow the LORD your God.

¹³ but those who stand firm to the End shall be saved.

⁴⁷ When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, He said of him, “Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.”

⁵⁵ for my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.

⁶⁶ From this time many of his disciples went back and no longer walked with him. ⁶⁷ So Jesus said to the Twelve: "Do you also wish to leave me?" ⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. ⁶⁹ "We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." ⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” ⁷¹ He meant Judas the son of Simon Iscariot, for he, though he was one of the Twelve, was going to betray him.

³⁶ So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

⁴ Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. ⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches. He that abides in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; for apart from me you can do nothing. ⁶ If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned. ⁷ If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. ⁸ This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples. ⁹ As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; remain in my love.

⁴³ After the synagogue was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who spoke to them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples and encouraging them to continue in the faith. “We must endure many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.

²² But I have had God’s help to this day, and I stand here to testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen:

⁷ To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life.

²² Take notice, therefore, of the kindness and severity of God: severity to those who fell, but kindness to you, if you continue in His kindness. Otherwise you also will be cut off.

²³ if indeed you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope of the gospel you heard, which has been proclaimed in all creation under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

¹⁵ But she will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.

¹⁶ Take heed to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in them, for if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

³ Support the widows who are truly in need. ⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to demonstrate piety in their own household by repaying their parents, for this is pleasing to God. ⁵ The widow who is truly in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day in her petitions and prayers.

¹⁴ But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, knowing from whom you learned it,

¹⁴ We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.

⁹ It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide by My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.

³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul is not well pleased with him." ³⁹ But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and keep their souls.

²⁵ But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they did not belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us. But their departure made it clear that none of them belonged to us.

²⁴ As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If it does, you will also remain in the Son and in the Father.

⁵ Lead me in Your truth, and teach me; for You are God my Savior; and I have waited on You all the day.

⁸ Good and right is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. ⁹ He leads humble people to do what is right, and he teaches them his way.

⁴⁵ I will walk in liberty, for I have sought your precepts.

²³ May you turn to my argument! Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you.

²⁹ Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD,

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you, ² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ if, indeed, you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, ⁴ If you seek it as for silver And search for it as for buried treasures, ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity,

¹⁸ The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn that grows brighter until the full light of day.

⁷ Tell me, you whom my soul loves, where you graze your flock, where you rest them at noon; for why should I be as one who is veiled beside the flocks of your companions? ⁸ If you do not know, most beautiful among women, follow the tracks of the sheep. Graze your young goats beside the shepherds' tents.

³ Then many people will come and say: "Let us go to the mountain of the LORD, to the House of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways so that we may live by them." The law will go out from Zion. The word of the LORD will go out from Jerusalem.

²¹ and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it.

⁸ And a highway will be there, and it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it will be for those who walk in the Way. Wicked fools will not go there.

¹³ And all your sons will be taught of the LORD and great will be the peace of your sons.

¹ The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me; because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to those who are bound;

¹⁶ This is what the LORD says: "Stand beside the roads and watch. Ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is. Walk in it and find rest for yourselves. But they said, 'We won't walk in it!'

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days," says the LORD: "I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people: ³⁴ And they will teach no more every man his neighbor and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD, for they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity and I will remember their sin no more.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.

¹¹ He replied, “The knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. ¹² Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me—

¹³ However, when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own, but He will speak what He hears, and He will declare to you what is to come.

¹⁷ Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.

¹⁴ For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. ¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? By no means! ¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey {— } either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.

² For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

¹⁵ For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of sonship, in which we cry, Abba, Father.

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. ¹⁸ And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

¹ It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.

¹³ For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.

²⁵ He must gently reprove those who oppose him, in the hope that God may grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth. ²⁶ And that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

⁷ Ever learning, but never able to acknowledge the truth.

¹² Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the Law that gives freedom.

¹⁶ Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a covering for evil; live as servants of God.

¹³ And he said to Abram, "Know for sure that your descendants will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs; and they will serve them. And they will oppress them four hundred years.

¹³ They forced the Israelites to work hard as slaves. ¹⁴ and they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of labor in the field, all their labors which they ruthlessly made them do.

⁴² Because they are my servants, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt; he must not be sold as a slave.

¹⁸ When the LORD established judges he supported each judge. He delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days the judge lived. He had compassion for them as they groaned under those who oppressed and afflicted them.

⁸ And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Cushan-Rishathaim, the king of Aram Naharaim; and the Israelites served Cushan-Rishathaim eight years.

³ Jabin had nine hundred iron chariots, and he ruled the people of Israel with cruelty and violence for twenty years. The people of Israel cried out to the LORD for help.

⁹ For we were slaves; yet our God has not forsaken us in our bondage, but has extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to rebuild the house of our God, and to repair its ruins, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.

⁴ And others there were that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tax on our fields and vineyards. ⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. We are powerless, and our fields and vineyards belong to others." ⁶ And when I heard their cry, and these words, I was very angry. ⁷ I thought over this in my heart, and then I quarreled with the nobles and the prefects. I said to them, "You yourselves are taking interest from your own brother!" So I called the great assembly against them, ⁸ And I said to them, We after our ability have redeemed our brothers the Jews, which were sold to the heathen; and will you even sell your brothers? or shall they be sold to us? Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

²⁷ So you delivered them into the control of their enemies, who oppressed them. But when they were oppressed, they cried out to you, and you heard from heaven. In your great compassion you gave them deliverers who rescued them from the control of their enemies. ²⁸ But after they had rest, they again did evil before you. Therefore you left them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them. Yet when they returned and cried to you, you heard from heaven and many times you delivered them according to your mercies,

³⁶ Behold, we are slaves today, even the land that You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are slaves in it. ³⁷ But now its abundant produce belongs to the kings whom you placed over us because of our sin. They also have power over our bodies and our herds at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

⁹ And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

³⁷ I know you are Abraham’s descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you.

³⁹ "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you are indeed Abraham's children," said Jesus "do the deeds of Abraham.

²⁵ By the cross of Jesus stood his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

²⁵ There was no one like Ahab, who gave himself up to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, moved to it by Jezebel his wife.

²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

¹⁸ For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

³ Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”

²³ For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and captive to iniquity.”

⁶ We know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.

¹² Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its desires,

¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey {— } either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. ²⁰ For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free from the control of righteousness.

¹⁴ We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.

²⁵ Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with my mind am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

²¹ that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.

² in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience.

³ For at one time we too were foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to all sorts of desires and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁹ They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves to corruption. For a man is a slave to whatever has overcome him.

⁸ He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. ⁹ Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. ¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; for every one who does not work righteousness is not a child of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

¹⁰ So she said to Abraham, Send away that woman and her son: for the son of that woman is not to have a part in the heritage with my son Isaac.

¹⁷ But if he gives it as a gift of his inheritance to one of his servants, then it shall be his until the year of liberty, then it shall return to the prince. His inheritance is only his sons'; it shall be theirs.

⁴¹ “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they declared, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his fruits in their seasons.” ⁴² Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’ ? ⁴³ Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.

³¹ 'Child,' the father answered, 'you are always with me, and everything that I have is yours.

¹⁹ And the world will not see me, but you will see me; because I live, you also shall live. ²⁰ On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

¹⁵ For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of sonship, in which we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. ¹⁷ Now if we are children, we are heirs heirs of God and co-heirs with the Messiah if, in fact, we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

²⁹ For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. ³⁰ And those He predestined He also called, those He called He also justified, those He justified He also glorified.

⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, ⁵ to redeem those under the Law, that we might receive our adoption as sons. ⁶ Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. ⁷ So you are no longer slaves but a son. And as a son God has made you an heir.

³⁰ But what does the Scripture say? “Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.” ³¹ Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

³ For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

⁵ Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house, testifying to what would be spoken later. ⁶ but Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. And we are his house, if we hold fast to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.

² who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, by the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling with his blood: may grace and peace be yours in abundance. ³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who through faith are protected by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹³ Also, keep back your servant from arrogant sins; let them not rule over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.

³² I run in the path of your commandments, for you have set my heart free.

¹³³ Fix my steps in Your word; and let no evil rule over me.

²⁴ Can prey be taken from a warrior? Or can prisoners of a tyrant be rescued? ²⁵ But Yahweh says, “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the plunder retrieved from the fierce, for I will contend with him who contends with you and I will save your children.

¹¹ As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will release your prisoners from the waterless pit. ¹² Turn to the fortress, you prisoners of hope: even today I tell you that I return double to you;

¹⁸ “The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed,

³¹ So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples. ³² Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

¹⁷ Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

¹⁵ For this people’s heart has grown callous; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.’

¹⁹ When anyone hears the message of the kingdom but does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. ²⁰ But he who received the seed on rocky places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; ²¹ But since he has no root, he remains for only a season. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. ²² The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

¹⁶ Now because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jews began to persecute Him. ¹⁷ But Jesus said to them, “My Father is continuing to work and I am working.” ¹⁸ Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

⁴⁴ How can you believe if you accept glory from one another, yet do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

¹ After this, Jesus went about in Galilee, for he would not do so in Judea, because the Jews were eager to put him to death.

¹⁹ Did not Moses give you the Law? Yet no one of you keeps the Law. Why are you trying to kill me?"

²⁵ Then some of the people of Jerusalem began to say, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?

⁶ They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger.

³³ They answered him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free?'"

³⁹ "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you are indeed Abraham's children," said Jesus "do the deeds of Abraham. ⁴⁰ But now you are trying to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham never did such a thing.

⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? ⁴⁷ Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

³¹ Again the Jews took up stones to stone him.

⁵³ So from that day on they plotted to kill Him.

³⁹ For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: ⁴⁰ “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they cannot see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.” ⁴¹ (Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him.) ⁴² Nevertheless, many of the leaders believed in Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue. ⁴³ For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

²⁶ Brothers, children of Abraham, and you Gentiles who fear God, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

⁷ Nor because they are Abraham’s descendants are they all his children. On the contrary, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.”

¹⁴ The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

⁷ But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his place of baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

³² He testifies to what He has seen and heard, yet no one accepts His testimony.

²⁶ “I have much to say about you and much to judge. But the One who sent Me is truthful, and what I have heard from Him, I tell the world.”

⁴¹ You are doing the works of your father.” “We are not illegitimate children,” they declared. “Our only Father is God Himself.”

⁴⁴ You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

²⁴ "He who does not love me does not obey my words. The word you hear is not mine, but comes from the Father who sent me.

⁴⁵ that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

²⁸ A man is not a Jew because he is one outwardly, nor is circumcision only outward and physical. ²⁹ No, a man is a Jew because he is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise does not come from men, but from God.

¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

⁷ Understand, then, that those who have faith are the sons of Abraham.

²⁹ And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

²² You see that his faith was working with his actions, and his faith was perfected by what he did. ²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness," and he was called God's friend. ²⁴ You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth his teeth against him.

³² The wicked looketh out for the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

³⁷ I know you are Abraham’s descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you. ³⁸ I am telling you what I have seen in my Father's presence, and you are practicing what you have learned from your father."

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced that he could see my day, and he saw it, and was glad.

¹⁶ Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?

²⁹ Yet at that time the child born in the course of nature persecuted the child born by the power of the Spirit; and it is the same now.

¹² and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. ¹³ Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

⁴ And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven, and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child when it was born.

¹² Rejoice then, O heavens and you that dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!" ¹³ When the Dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth he pursued the woman who had given birth to the man-child.

¹⁷ Then the dragon was enraged with the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

²² You are to say to Pharaoh, 'This is what the LORD says: "Israel is my firstborn son.

¹ "You are the sons of the LORD your God. Do not cut yourselves nor shave your forehead for the sake of the dead.

⁶ "Is this how you repay the LORD, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father and creator, who made you and formed you?

³ “But draw near here, you sons of a sorceress, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes. ⁴ Against whom are you mocking? Against whom do you make a wide mouth, and stick out your tongue? Aren't you children of rebellion, offspring of liars, ⁵ who burn with lust among the oaks, under every leafy tree, who slaughter children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks? ⁶ Among the smooth stones of the valley is your portion. They, they are your lot, even to them you have poured a drink offering; you have offered an oblation. Shall I be appeased for these things? ⁷ You have put your bed on a high mountain: there you went up to make your offering.

¹⁶ For you are our father, although Abraham does not know us, and Israel does not acknowledge us. You, the LORD are our father, Our Redeemer from of old is your name.

⁸ But now, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter and we are all the work of your hand.

¹⁹ "I said, 'How I wanted to treat you like children, and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful inheritance of the nations.' I said, 'You will call me, my father, and won't turn back from following me.'

²⁰ "Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a darling child? Indeed, as often as I've spoken about him, I surely still remember him. Therefore I deeply yearn for him. I'll surely have great compassion on him," declares the LORD.

²⁰ »‘You took your sons and daughters, who belonged to me, and you sacrificed them as food to idols. Was your prostitution not enough? ²¹ "'You slaughtered my children and presented them as burnt offerings to idols.

⁴⁵ "But they, righteous men, will judge them with the judgment of adulteresses and with the judgment of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses and blood is on their hands. ⁴⁶ "The Sovereign LORD says: 'Bring up a company against them and give them over to terror and plunder. ⁴⁷ these shall stone them and gore them with their swords. They shall slay their sons and daughters and burn up their houses with fire.

² When the LORD spoke at the first by Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea, "Go, take for yourself a wife of prostitution and children of unfaithfulness; for the land commits great adultery, forsaking the LORD."

² Judge your mother, judge her: because she is not my wife, and I am not her husband. Let her put away her fornications from her face, and her adulteries from between her breasts. ³ Otherwise, I'll strip her naked {— } as she was on the day she was born {— } make her like a wilderness, turn her into a parched land, and cause her to die of thirst. ⁴ And I will not have pity on her children, because they are children of whoredom. ⁵ Their mother played the harlot. She that conceived them acted shamefully! For she said, I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the LORD of hosts to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?'

¹¹ Judah has been faithless, and a detestable thing has been done in Israel and in Jerusalem. Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the LORD which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you refuse to accept me. If someone else comes in his own name you will accept him.

⁴⁹ For I did not speak of myself; but the Father who sent me, he commanded me what to say and what to speak.

²³ He who hates me, hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have seen and hated both Me and My Father.

²⁷ for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came from God. ²⁸ I did come from the Father and enter the world. Now I am leaving the world again and going back to the Father."

²⁵ Righteous Father, though the world did not know you, I knew you, and these men knew that you had sent me.

²² If anyone does not love the Lord, a curse be on him. Our Lord, come.

⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

⁹ This is how God’s love was revealed among us: God sent His one and only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

¹⁴ And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent His Son to be the Savior of the world.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves His child. ² This is how we can be sure that we love the children of God: it is by loving God and obeying his commands.

¹ Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb,

⁵ Evil men do not understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand it fully.

¹⁸ They know not, they understand not; for their eyes are daubed over, that they cannot see; their hearts, that they cannot understand.

¹⁰ To whom shall I speak and give a warning so they'll listen? Look, their ears are closed, and they cannot hear. Look, the word of the LORD is contemptible to them; they don't delight in it.

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of the LORD are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

¹² But they do not know the thoughts of the LORD, and they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them as sheaves to his threshing floor.

⁶⁰ On hearing it, many of His disciples said, “This is a difficult teaching. Who can accept it?”

²⁷ They did not understand that He was telling them about the Father.

³⁹ For this reason they could not believe, because Isaiah said again: ⁴⁰ “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so that they cannot see with their eyes, and understand with their hearts, and turn, and I would heal them.”

⁵¹ You stiff-necked people with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit, just as your fathers did.

¹¹ there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.

³ '"However, God did say: 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden. You must not touch it, or you will die.'" ⁴ "You will not die," the serpent said to the woman. ⁵ "God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened. Then you will be like God, knowing good and evil." ⁶ When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. ⁷ Then the eyes of both of them were opened. They realized they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise your head and you will bruise his heel.

⁸ Then Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out into the field." And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. ⁹ the LORD asked Cain: "Where is your brother Abel?" "I do not know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

²² The LORD said to him, 'How?' He said, 'I will go out and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' He said, 'You will entice him, and will also prevail. Go out and do so.'

¹ Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to take a census of Israel.

²⁰ A spirit came out, stood before the LORD, and said, 'I will entice him.' "The LORD said to him, 'How?' ²¹ “He said, 'I will go, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' “He said, 'You will entice him, and will prevail also. Go and do so.' ²² And now behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil against you.

¹¹ However, stretch out your hand and strike everything he owns, and he will curse you to your face."

⁴ Satan answered the LORD: "Skin for skin! Certainly, a man will give everything he has for his life. ⁵ "But stretch out your hand, and strike his flesh and bones and he will curse you to your face!" ⁶ the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand. Only spare his life.

³⁸ the field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one,

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!”

³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land?

¹⁰ and said, “O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous signs, lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie,

¹ What causes conflicts and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from the passions at war within you? ² You crave what you do not have. You kill and covet, but are unable to obtain it. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask. ³ And when you do ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may squander it on your pleasures. ⁴ You adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God. ⁵ Or do you think the Scripture says without reason that the Spirit He caused to dwell in us yearns with envy? ⁶ But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” ⁷ Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

⁸ Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

⁴ He who says, 'I know him,' but does not obey his commands, is a liar and the truth is not in him;

¹² and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous.

¹⁵ Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

¹¹ They have as king over them the angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon.

⁹ And the great dragon was hurled down—the ancient serpent called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

⁶ He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, to slander his name, and his dwelling place, and those who live in heaven. ⁷ It was allowed to wage war against the saints and to conquer them. It was also given authority over every tribe, people, languages, and nation. ⁸ And all who dwell on the earth wilt worship him, every one whose name hath not been written in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

¹⁴ Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.

² He seized the dragon, the ancient serpent who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. ³ He threw him into the pit, and closed it and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that time, he must be released for a short while.

⁷ When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison, ⁸ and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle. Their number is like the sand of the seashore. ⁹ They came up on the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of God's people, and the beloved city. Then fire came down from heaven and consumed them. ¹⁰ The devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet are also. They will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

⁸ But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

¹⁹ And this is the verdict: The Light has come into the world, but men loved the darkness rather than the Light, because their deeds were evil. ²⁰ Everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come into the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

⁷ the world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its deeds are evil.

³⁷ Pilate said to him, "Then you are a king?" Jesus answered, "As you say, I am a king. It was for this that I was born and for this that I came to the world, to give testimony for truth. Everyone who is on the side of truth listens to my voice."

¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

³ For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. ⁴ So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.

²⁵ What was the source of John’s baptism? Was it from heaven or from men?” They deliberated among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will ask, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’

³¹ They began discussing this among themselves. "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'

⁷ When they persisted in questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let the person among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."

³⁰ I will not speak with you much longer, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has no hold on me.

⁸ And when He comes, He will convict the world in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

²¹ God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;"

¹² But to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God ¹³ children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets: ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from Him comes to Me— ⁴⁶ not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God; only He has seen the Father.

⁶⁵ Then Jesus said, “This is why I told you that no one can come to Me unless the Father has granted it to him.”

⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me.

²⁶ But you do not believe, because you are not my sheep. ²⁷ My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me;

⁶ I have revealed Your name to those You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours; You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. ⁷ Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. ⁸ For I have given them the words You gave Me, and they have received them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; for every one who does not work righteousness is not a child of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

¹ Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ² By this you will know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, ³ But every spirit who does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist. You have heard that he is coming, and now he is already in the world. ⁴ You, children, are of God, and have overcome them, because he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

¹ Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves His child.

¹¹ Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. The person who does what is good is from God. The person who does what is evil has never seen God.

⁷ Thus says the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and his Holy One, to the one who is despised, to the abhorred of the nation, the servant of rulers: "Kings shall see and arise; princes, and they shall worship; because of the LORD who is faithful, even the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you."

³ He was despised, and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and as one from whom men hide their face he was despised, and we esteemed him not

⁵ These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go onto the road of the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.

²⁵ It is enough for a disciple to be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If the head of the house has been called Beelzebul, how much more the members of his household!

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard this they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons."

³¹ Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.

⁷ You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you:

⁹ The Samaritan woman said, "What? You are a Jew, and you ask me for a drink — me, a Samaritan!" (Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

¹³ You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right: that is what I am.

³ For even Christ did not please Himself, but as it is written: “The insults of those who insult You have fallen on Me.”

¹⁹ You believe that God is one. Good for you! Even the demons believe that, and shudder!

³ He said to me: "You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will show my glory."

¹⁵ But Jesus answered him, "Let it be so now; for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he consented. ¹⁶ As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him. ¹⁷ and lo! a voice from heaven said,"This is my son, the Beloved, in whom I am well pleased."

⁴ When Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”

²⁸ Father, glorify your name." Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again."

³¹ When he was gone, Jesus said: Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify the Son in Himself—and will glorify Him at once.

¹³ And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. ⁸ And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to deatheven death on a cross. ⁹ Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place, and gave Him the name above all names, ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ¹¹ and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

²³ When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.

²⁰ The Father loves the Son and shows Him all He does. And to your amazement, He will show Him even greater works than these. ²¹ For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to those whom he will. ²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.

⁴¹ I do not accept glory from men,

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, in whom you have put your hope.

¹⁸ The man who speaks on his own authority seeks honor for himself; but the man who seeks the honor of him that sent him is sincere, and there is nothing false in him.

⁵⁴ Jesus answered: "If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. My Father glorifies me. He is the one whom you say is your God.

⁴⁷ As for anyone who hears My words and does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I have not come to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸ There is a judge for the one who rejects Me and does not receive My words: The word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.

⁴⁸ What man can live on and not see death? Can he deliver his life from the power of Sheol? Selah

²⁶ It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not die until he had seen the Lord's Christ.

¹⁵ that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

²⁴ Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.

⁵⁰ Here is the bread that comes down out of Heaven that a man may eat it and not die.

⁵⁵ But you have not known him; I know him. If I said, I do not know him, I would be a liar like you; but I do know him and keep his word.

²⁵ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies. ²⁶ And whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

²⁰ "Remember the word I said to you. A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed my word, they will obey yours also.

⁵ By faith Enoch was taken up so that he did not see death. He could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.

⁵ Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live forever? ⁶ However, did not my words and my regulations which I commanded my servants the prophets overtake your ancestors? And they repented and said, 'the LORD of hosts planned to do with us according to our ways, and according to our deeds so he has dealt with us.'" '"

²⁴ So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, "Give God the praise; we know this man is a sinner."

⁹ But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because He suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.

¹³ All these people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised. However, they saw them and welcomed them from afar. And they acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

⁶ I tell you that one greater than the temple is here.

⁴¹ The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one greater than Jonah is here. ⁴² The queen of the south will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and now One greater than Solomon is here.

¹² Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his cattle?

¹⁸ Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

²⁹ My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. ³⁰ I and the Father are one."

³³ “We are not stoning You for any good work,” said the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because You, who are a man, declare Yourself to be God.”

³⁴ The crowd replied, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever. So how can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

⁷ The Jews answered Pilate, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die because he made himself out to be the Son of God."

⁵ Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them proceeds the human descent of Christ, who is God over all, forever worthy of praise! Amen.

² He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. ³ Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.

¹ This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, ² and Abraham apportioned to him a tenth of everything. First, his name means “king of righteousness.” Then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” ³ Without father or mother or genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God, he remains a priest for all time. ⁴ See how great he was! Even the patriarch Abraham gave him a tenth of the spoils. ⁵ Now the Law commands the sons of Levi who become priests to collect a tenth from the people (that is, their brothers), even though they are descended from Abraham. ⁶ But Melchizedek, who did not trace his descent from Levi, collected a tenth from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. ⁷ And without dispute the lesser person is blessed by the greater.

⁶ "But I myself have installed my king on Zion, my holy hill." ⁷ I will tell of the decree. The LORD said to me, "You are my son. Today I have become your father. ⁸ "Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. ⁹ "You will rule them with an iron scepter. You will dash them to pieces like pottery!" ¹⁰ So then, O kings, be wise. Be warned, O rulers of the earth. ¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. ¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed (happy) are all who take refuge (put trust) in him.

¹ A Psalm by David. the LORD says to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet. ² the LORD will send out your mighty scepter from Zion; rule in the midst of your enemies. ³ Your people will volunteer in the day of your power. In holy splendor, from the womb of the dawn, you will have the dew of your youth. ⁴ The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek."

²⁷ It is not good to eat much honey; nor is it honorable to seek one's own honor.

¹ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came out from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, and invoke the God of Israel, but not in truth and not in righteousness. ² for they call themselves citizens of the holy city, and rely on the God of Israel; the LORD of Armies is his name.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name's sake, have said, Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy. But it is those who will be put to shame.

¹³ I beheld in the night vision, and behold, One like the Son of Man coming with the clouds of heaven, and He came to the Ancient of Days, and was brought near to Him. ¹⁴ And there was given him dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which will not pass away and his kingdom is one that will not be destroyed.

⁹ the LORD said: "Name him Loammi for you are not my people, and I am not your God.

¹¹ This, the first of the miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee and revealed His glory; and His disciples believed into Him.

³¹ “If I testify about myself my testimony is not valid. ³² There is another who testifies about Me, and I know that His testimony about Me is valid.

³⁹ He was speaking about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

⁵⁰ I do not seek my own glory: but there is one who seeks it, and he is the judge.

¹⁴ He will glorify Me by taking from what is Mine and disclosing it to you. ¹⁵ Everything that belongs to the Father is Mine. That is why I said that the Spirit will take from what is Mine and disclose it to you.

¹ After Jesus had said this, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you.

⁵ And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world existed.

¹³ The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over and rejected Him before Pilate, even though he had decided to release Him.

¹⁷ But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law and boast of your relation to God ¹⁸ if you know His will and approve of what is superior because you are instructed by the Law; ¹⁹ if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light for those in darkness, ²⁰ an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, because you have in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and truth— ²¹ you, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? ²² You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? ²³ You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? ²⁴ As it is written: “God’s name is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.” ²⁵ Circumcision has value if you observe the Law, but if you break the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ So if people who are uncircumcised observe the requirements of the Law, will they not be treated as though they were circumcised? ²⁷ The one who is not circumcised physically and yet obeys the law will condemn you who, even though you have the written code and circumcision, are a breaker of the law.

¹⁸ For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

²⁰ which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, ²¹ far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come. ²² And he subordinated all things under his feet, and appointed him head over all things for the church, ²³ which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills everything in every way.

⁴ No one takes this honor upon himself; he must be called by God, just as Aaron was. ⁵ So too Christ did not take for himself the glory of becoming a high priest, but he who said to him, "Thou art my Son, to-day I have become thy Father,"

¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

²¹ Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.

¹⁷ For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him by the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."

²² “For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”

³ They use their tongues like a bow. Lies rather than truth fly throughout the land. They progress from one evil to another, and they don't know me," declares the LORD.

⁴ Their deeds won't allow them to turn to their God; for the spirit of prostitution is within them, and they do not know the LORD.

²⁷ "All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

²² All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son, and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

⁴⁶ not that anyone has seen the Father except the One who is from God; only He has seen the Father.

¹⁹ Then they asked him, Where is your Father? Jesus answered, You know neither me nor my Father: if you knew me, you would know my Father also.

²³ For as I walked around and examined your objects of worship, I even found an altar with the inscription: To an unknown God. Therefore what you worship as something unknown, I now proclaim to you.

⁶ For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²² Who is the liar, if it is not the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.

¹⁰ Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him; whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony God has given about His Son.

⁹ I will make some who belong to that synagogue of Satan and claim to be Jews when they are not so, but are lying—I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and learn that I loved you.

¹⁸ And by your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

¹⁷ For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

²⁸ Simeon took Him in his arms and praised God, saying: ²⁹ “Sovereign Lord, as You have promised, You now dismiss Your servant in peace. ³⁰ For my eyes have seen your salvation

²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

⁷ Understand, then, that those who have faith are the sons of Abraham. ⁸ The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” ⁹ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

³⁹ These were all commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised.

¹⁰ Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who foretold the grace that would come to you, searched and investigated carefully, ¹¹ trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. ¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

¹⁴ And God said to Moses, I AM WHO I AM. And he said, Thus you will say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.

²² "the LORD possessed me, the first of his ways, before his acts of old. ²³ I was set up from eternity, from the beginning, before the earth was. ²⁴ When there were no depths, I was born, when there were no springs abounding with water. ²⁵ Before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was born; ²⁶ When he had not made the earth or the fields or the dust of the world. ²⁷ when he crafted the heavens, I was there when he marked out a circle on the face of the deep, ²⁸ when he established the clouds above, when he strengthened the fountains of the deep, ²⁹ when he gave to the sea its boundary, that the waters should not violate his commandment, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, ³⁰ then I was the craftsman by his side. I was a delight day by day, always rejoicing before him,

¹³ Yea, from this day I am He, and no one delivers from My hand. I will work, and who will reverse it?

⁶ the LORD says thus, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD Almighty: I am the first and I am the last and besides me there is no God.

⁸ "'Do not tremble. Do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses! Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock. There is not one!'"

⁹ "Remember the former things, the things of long ago. I am God, and there is no other. I am God, and there is none like me.

¹² "Listen to me, Jacob, and Israel, whom I called: I am he. I am the first; also I am the last.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come out to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings out are from of old, from ancient times.

¹ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ² He was with God in the beginning.

³⁴ Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

²⁴ Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am and to see my glory, which you gave me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

¹⁷ He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

¹⁰ And, "In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. ¹¹ They will perish, but You remain; They will all wear out like a garment. ¹² You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed; but You remain the same, and Your years will never end.”

⁸ Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

⁸ "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

¹¹ saying, “Write in a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.”

⁸ And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These are the words of him who is the first and the last, who was dead, and came to life;

¹¹ They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

¹⁶ He who blasphemes the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him: the foreigner as well as the native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.

¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as Elisha had spoken. ¹⁹ Then Elisha told the army, "This isn't the way, and this isn't the city! Follow me, and I'll bring you to the man you're seeking. Then he led them to Samaria. ²⁰ And when they came into Samaria, Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

²⁹ They got up, drove Him out of the town, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw Him over the cliff. ³⁰ But Jesus passed through the crowd and went on His way.

³¹ Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him; but he disappeared from their sight.

¹³ But the man who was healed did not know who it was, because Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.

⁵ In our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now, what do you say?" ⁶ They said this to test Him, in order to have a basis for accusing Him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with His finger.

³⁰ I and the Father are one." ³¹ Again the Jews took up stones to stone him. ³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?" ³³ “We are not stoning You for any good work,” said the Jews, “but for blasphemy, because You, who are a man, declare Yourself to be God.”

³⁹ Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped from their hands ⁴⁰ Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had first been baptizing, and He stayed there.

⁸ “Rabbi,” they replied, “the Jews just tried to stone You, and You are going back there?”

⁵⁴ Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews; but went away from there to a region near the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there he stayed with his disciples.

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." When Jesus had said this, he departed and hid himself from them.

³¹ Pilate said to them, "Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law." The Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death."

⁵⁷ At this they covered their ears, cried out in a loud voice, and rushed together at him.

³⁹ When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him any more, for he went on his way rejoicing. ⁴⁰ But Philip appeared at Azotus and traveled through that region, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he came to Caesarea.
