1 This is the word that the LORD spoke through the prophet Jeremiah about Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans.
2 "Declare and proclaim among the nations. Lift up a banner and proclaim. Don't conceal anything. Say, 'Babylon will be captured. Bel will be disgraced, and Marduk will be destroyed. Her idols will be disgraced, and her filthy images will be destroyed.'
3 For a nation from the north will go up against her. It will make her land into an object of horror, and no one will live in it. Both people and animals will wander off, and they'll leave.
4 In those days, and at that time, says the LORD, the sons of Israel shall come, they and the sons of Judah together, going and weeping. They shall go and seek the LORD their God.
5 They will ask the way to Zion, turning their faces there. They will come and join themselves to the LORD by an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.
6 My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds thrust them out, they caused them to wander on the mountains; they went from mountain to hill, they forgot their resting place.
7 All those who found them have devoured them. And their foes have said, 'We are not guilty, because they have sinned against the LORD, the true pasture, even the LORD, the hope of their ancestors.'
8 Go in flight out of Babylon, go out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and be like he-goats before the flocks.
9 Indeed, I'm going to stir up and bring against Babylon a great company of nations from the land of the north. They'll deploy for battle against her, and from there she will be captured. Their arrows will be like a skilled warrior; they won't miss their targets.
10 And Chaldea shall be a prize; all who plunder her shall be satisfied, declares the LORD.
11 Because you rejoice, because you exult, O destroyers of My inheritance, because you are fat like the heifer in grass, and neigh like strong ones,
12 Your mother will be greatly devastated, she who gave birth to you will be ashamed. She will become the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.
13 Because of the anger of the LORD she won't be inhabited, but will be utterly devastated. Everyone who passes by Babylon will be horrified and will scoff because of all her wounds.
14 Deploy the troops all around Babylon. All who bend the bow, shoot at her and spare no arrows, for she has sinned against the LORD.
15 Shout against her all around: she has submitted herself; her towers are fallen, her walls are thrown down; for it is the vengeance of the LORD: take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her.
16 Cut off the sower from Babylon, and the one who uses the sickle in the time of harvest. Because of the sword of the oppressor each one will turn to their people, and each one will flee to their land.
17 "The people of Israel are like scattered sheep that lions have chased. The first to devour them was the king of Assyria. The last to gnaw at their bones was King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
18 "This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: 'I am going to punish the king of Babylon and his land as I punished the king of Assyria.
19 I will bring Israel again to his pasture, and he will feed on Carmel and Bashan. His soul will be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.
20 In those days and at that time," declares the LORD, "the guilt of Israel will be sought, but there is none, and the sins of Judah, but they will not be found, for I will forgive those I left behind.
21 "Attack the land of Merathaim and the people who live in Pekod. Claim them for me by killing them with a sword, says the LORD. Do everything I commanded you.
22 A noise of battle [is] in the land, and of great destruction."
23 How s cut and broken the hammer of all the earth! How hath Babylon become an astonishment among the nations!
24 "I will set traps for you, Babylon. You will be caught, but you will not know it. You will be found and captured because you have opposed the LORD."
25 the LORD will open his armory and bring out the weapons of his fury, because the LORD Almighty has a job to do in the land of the Babylonians.
26 "Come to her from afar. Open up her barns. Pile her up like heaps of grain, and completely destroy her. Don't leave any survivors.
27 Kill all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has come, the time of their punishment.
28 Fugitives and refugees from Babylon are coming to Zion to tell about the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance for his temple.
29 "Summon many to Babylon, all those who bend the bow. Camp all around her, let no one escape. Repay her according to her deeds. Do to her just as she has done. For she has behaved arrogantly against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.
30 Therefore, her warriors will fall in her streets, and all her soldiers will be silenced on that day," declares the LORD.
31 "Look, I am against you, O arrogant one," declares Sovereign LORD Almighty, "for your day has come, the time when I will punish you.
32 The proud one will stumble and fall, and no one will raise him up. I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour all who are around him.”
33 Thus says the LORD Almighty: "The people of Israel are oppressed, and the people of Judah likewise, for all their captors have seized them, they refuse to let them go free.
34 Their Redeemer is strong; the LORD Almighty, is His name. He shall thoroughly plead their cause, so that he may give rest to the land, and give trouble to the people of Babylon.
35 A sword against the Chaldeans," declares the LORD, "and against the inhabitants of Babylon, against her officials and her wise men.
36 A sword against the oracle priests, and they will become foolish. A sword against her warriors, and they will be filled with terror.
37 A sword against her horses, against her chariots, and against all the foreign troops in her midst. They'll become women. A sword against her treasures. They'll be plundered.
38 A drought is on her waters; and they shall be dried up. For it is the land of idols, and they act madly with idols.
39 "That is why desert animals will live with hyenas. Desert owls will also live there. It will no longer be inhabited or lived in for generations.
40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors, states the LORD, so no man shall live there, nor shall a son of man stay in it.
41 "Look, people are coming from the north. A great nation and many kings will be stirred up from the ends of the earth.
42 They grab bow and spear. They're cruel and show no mercy. Their sound roars like the sea, as they ride on horses deployed like men ready for battle against you, daughter of Babylon.
43 The king of Babylon has heard the news about them, and his hands hang limp. Distress has seized him, like a woman in labor.
44 Behold he will be like the lion which must go up from the swelling of Jordan to Gaitham, for I will speedily drive men from her, and set every youth against her: for who is like me and who can withstand me? And who is the shepherd who can stand before me?
45 Listen to what the LORD is going to do against Babylon and the things he intends to do to the land of the Babylonians. He will surely drag away the little ones of the flock. He will surely destroy the pasture because of the Babylonians.
46 At the sound of Babylon's capture, the earth shall tremble, and a cry is heard among the nations.

1 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor.
2 And he called out with a mighty voice, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt of every unclean spirit, a haunt of every unclean and hateful bird.
3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her adulteries, and the kings of the earth have committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich with her excessive luxuries.
4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues.
5 For her sins are piled up to the sky, and God has remembered her crimes.
6 Give back to her as she has done to others; pay her back double for what she has done; mix her a double portion in her own cup.
7 give her torment and pain in proportion to her pride and luxury; for she said in her heart, "I am enthron'd like a queen, I am no widow, and shall see no sorrow."
8 Therefore in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.
9 "The kings of the earth who have committed lewdness with her and have reveled luxuriously, when they see the smoke of her burning, will wail and beat their breasts.
10 for fear of her torture they will stand far off, crying, 'Woe and alas, thou great city! thou strong city of Babylon! In one brief hour thy doom has come.'
11 And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more
12 cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;
13 cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and chariots; and slaves and human souls.
14 The fruit you longed for has gone from you, and all your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.
15 The merchants who sold these things and grew their wealth from her will stand at a distance, in fear of her torment. They will weep and mourn,
16 and say, 'Alas! Alas for the great city that was dressed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and glittered with gold, precious stones, and pearls,
17 In one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!' And every shipmaster and all passengers and sailors, and all who make their living by the sea, stood far off,
18 and cried, when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying: What other is like this great city!
19 Then they will throw dust on their heads as they weep and mourn and cry out: “Woe, woe to the great city, where all who had ships on the sea were enriched by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been destroyed.”
20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets; for God has judged her for what she did to you.
21 Then a mighty angel picked up a stone the size of a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be cast down, never to be seen again.
22 The sound of harpists and musicians, flute-players, and trumpets will never be heard in you again. No craftsman of any kind will ever be found in you again, no sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again;
23 The light of a lamp will never more shine in you. The voices of bridegroom and bride will never again be heard in you. Your merchants were the great ones of the earth; for by your magic arts all the nations were led astray.

6 "'"My sheep wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. They were scattered throughout the entire earth. No one searched or looked for them.
7 "'"Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
8 '"As I am alive, declares the Sovereign LORD, because there is no shepherd, my sheep have become prey. My sheep have become food for wild animals. My shepherds have not searched for my sheep. They have taken care of only themselves, not my sheep."'

7 So I became shepherd of the flock marked for slaughter, paying attention to the oppressed of the flock. I took two staffs naming one "Pleasant" and the other one "Union" and then I pastured the flock.

16 They repeatedly stumble and fall. They say to each other, 'Get up! Let's go back to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the oppressor's sword.'
Jeremiah 51:9
9 “We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed. Forsake her, and let's each go into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
Jeremiah 51:23
23 I'll smash the shepherd and his flock with you. I'll smash the farmer and his team of oxen with you. I'll smash governors and officials with you.
Joel 1:11
11 Be ashamed, O you farmers; wail, O you vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field has perished.
Amos 5:16
16 Therefore this is what the LORD, the God of the Heavenly Armies, the Lord, says: "There will be dirges in all of the streets; and in all of the highways they will cry out in anguish. They will call the farmer to mourning and those who lament to grieve.
2 Kings 15:29
29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria.
2 Kings 17:6-23
6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria. He led the Israelites away to Assyria. He stationed them in Halah and Habor on the Gozan River, and in the towns of the Medes.
7 Now this happened because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God when he brought them up from the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh the king of Egypt and they feared other gods.
8 They walked in the statutes of the nations whom the LORD had driven out from before the Israelites, which the kings of Israel had introduced.
9 The Israelites secretly did things which were not right, against the LORD their God; they built high places for themselves in all their towns, from the watchtower up to the fortified city.
10 and they set up for themselves pillars and Asherah poles on every high hill, and under every green tree;
11 and there they burned incense in all the high places, as the nations whom the LORD carried away before them did; and they did wicked things to provoke the LORD to anger;
12 They served idols which the LORD had said to them, "You shall not do this thing!"
13 Nevertheless, the LORD had warned both Israel and Judah by means of every prophet and seer: "Turn away from your evil practices and keep my commandments and statutes according to the entire law that I gave your ancestors and that I sent to you through my servants, the prophets."
14 And they did not give ear, but became stiff-necked, like their fathers who had no faith in the Lord their God.
15 They rejected the LORD's statutes, the covenant that he had made with their ancestors, and his warnings that he gave them. They pursued meaninglessness {— } and became meaningless themselves {— } as they followed the lifestyles of the nations that surrounded them, a practice that the LORD had warned them not to do.
16 They abandoned all the commands of the LORD their God and made for themselves two molten calf-shaped idols; they made a pole of Asherah worship and bowed down to the army of the heavens and served Baal.
17 They made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, they practiced divination and read omens, and they sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD to provoke him.
18 the LORD was very angry with Israel. He removed them from his sight. Only the tribe of Judah kept its place.
19 But even Judah did not obey the commands of the LORD their God. They were guided by the rules Israel made.
20 And the LORD rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and gave them into the hand of the plunderers, until He had cast them out from His presence.
21 for he rent Israel away from the house of David, and they made Jeroboam son of Nebat, king,—and Jeroboam thrust away Israel from following the LORD, and caused them to commit a great sin.
22 The Israelites practiced all the sins that Jeroboam had practiced, and never wavered from them
23 until the Lord removed them from his presence, as he spoke by the ministry of all his servants the prophets. Now when Israel was removed from their own land to Assyria, where they continue to this day;
2 Kings 18:9-13
9 It was the fourth year of King Hezekiah, the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel. Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and laid siege to it.
10 And at the end of three years they took it. Samaria was taken in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel.
11 Then the king of Assyria deported Israel to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Habor, in the river regions of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,
12 because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not listen to them, nor do them.
13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.
2 Kings 24:1-25:7
1 ¶ In his time Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came up, and Jehoiakim became his slave three years; then he turned and rebelled against him.
2 the LORD sent raiding parties of Babylonians, Arameans, Moabites, and Ammonites against Jehoiakim to destroy Judah as the LORD predicted through his servants the prophets.
3 Surely, it was on the command of the LORD against Judah to remove them from his sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done.
4 and also the innocent blood that he shed; for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD was not willing to forgive.
5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
6 So Jehoiakim slept with his fathers: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.
7 The king of Egypt did not again come out from his land, for the king of Babylon had taken territory from the Wadi of Egypt to the Euphrates River.
2 Kings 25:1-7
1 Now in the ninth year of his rule, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came against Jerusalem with all his army and took up his position before it, building earthworks all round the town.
2 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of king Zedekiah.
3 On the ninth day of the [fourth] month the famine was sore in the city, so that there was no bread for the people of the land
4 The city was breached, and the entire army left during the night through the gate that stood between the two walls beside the royal garden, even though the Chaldeans had surrounded the city. They escaped by way of the Arabah,
5 But the Chaldean army pursued the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
6 So they captured the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, and they passed sentence on him.
7 They put the sons of Zedekiah to death before his eyes. Then they put out his eyes, chained him with iron bands and took him to Babylon.
2 Chronicles 28:20
20 Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria came to him, and gave him trouble, but didn't strengthen him.
2 Chronicles 32:1-23
1 After all of these acts of faithfulness occurred, King Sennacherib of Assyria came, invaded Judah, and laid siege to the fortified cities, thinking to conquer them for himself.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he intended to fight against Jerusalem,
3 He consulted with his princes and his mighty men to stop up the waters of the springs which were without the city: and they helped him.
4 A large crowd gathered as they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the land. They said: Why should the kings of Assyria find plenty of water?
5 Hezekiah worked hard. He rebuilt all the broken sections of the wall. He built the towers taller and built another wall outside the city wall. He strengthened the Millo in the City of David, and made plenty of weapons and shields.
6 and appointed military officers over the people; and having assembled them before him in the street of the valley gate, he spoke affectionately to them, and said,
7 “Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.
8 with him, is an arm of flesh, but, with us, is the LORD our God, to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people leaned upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
10 Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do you trust, that you remain in the siege in Jerusalem?
11 "Hezekiah your king is telling you that the LORD your God will save you from me. But he is lying! You will die of hunger and thirst."
12 Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Give worship before one altar only, burning offerings on it?
13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
14 Who from all the gods of these nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, which were able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God shall be able to deliver you from my hand?
15 And now, do not let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, nor believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand, from the hand of my fathers; also, surely your god shall not deliver you from my hand.
16 Sennacherib's officers said more against the LORD God and his servant Hezekiah.
17 And he had written letters to blaspheme the LORD, the God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah shall not deliver His people from my hand.
18 And they called with a great voice in Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to terrify them, that they might capture the city.
19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of man`s hand.
20 King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, prayed about this and called to heaven.
21 The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, some of his own offspring killed him there with the sword.
22 And the LORD saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
23 many brought gifts for the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezekias king of Juda. And he was thenceforth magnified in the eyes of all the nations.
2 Chronicles 33:11
11 So the LORD made the army commanders of the king of Assyria invade Judah. They took Manasseh captive, put a hook in his nose, put him in bronze shackles, and brought him to Babylon.
2 Chronicles 36:1-23
1 Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz, the son of Josiah, and made him king in Jerusalem in place of his father.
2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he became king; he was ruling in Jerusalem for three months.
3 And the king of Egypt dethroned him at Jerusalem, and imposed on the land a tribute of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.
4 The king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. Neco took Joahaz his brother, and carried him to Egypt.
5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king; he was ruling in Jerusalem for eleven years, and he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God.
6 Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon attacked Jehoiakim and put him in bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.
7 Nebuchadnezzar also took articles from the LORD's temple to Babylon and placed them in his temple in Babylon.
8 Everything about Jehoiakim, the disgusting things he did and all the charges against him are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. His son Jehoiakin succeeded him as king.
9 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king; he was ruling in Jerusalem for three months and ten days, and he did evil in the eyes of the Lord.
10 In the spring King Nebuchadnezzar sent for Jehoiakin and brought him to Babylon with the valuable utensils from the LORD's Temple. Nebuchadnezzar made Jehoiakin's uncle Zedekiah king of Judah and Jerusalem.
11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king; he was ruling in Jerusalem for eleven years.
12 And he did evil in the eyes of the LORD his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet who spoke for the LORD.
13 And he also rebelled against king Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him take oath by God; and he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart from returning to the LORD the God of Israel.
14 All the leaders of the priests and the people likewise increased in unfaithfulness according to all the detestable things of the nations. And they polluted the house of the LORD that he had consecrated in Jerusalem.
15 The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.
17 And he brought up [against] them the king of the Chaldees, and slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and spared not young man nor maiden, old man nor him of hoary head: he gave [them] all into his hand.
18 He brought to Babylon each of the utensils from God's temple, the treasures from the LORD's Temple, and the treasures of the king and his officials.
19 They burned God's house, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and burned all its palaces with fire, and destroyed all of its valuable vessels.
20 And all who had not come to death by the sword he took away prisoners to Babylon; and they became servants to him and to his sons till the kingdom of Persia came to power:
21 To fill up the word of the LORD in the mouth of Jeremiah, till the land delighted in her Sabbaths: all the days she was laid waste she rested, to complete seventy years.
22 In the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia. He sent a proclamation throughout his kingdom, and also put it in writing. He said:
23 Thus says Cyrus king of Persia: »the LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all his people, may the LORD his God be with him, and let him go up!«
Isaiah 7:17-20
17 the LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah. He will bring the king of Assyria upon you.
18 "In that day the LORD will whistle for the flies that are at the distant branches of the Nile River in Egypt and for the bees that are in Assyria.
19 "All of them will come and settle in the deep valleys, in the cracks in the cliffs, on all the thorn bushes, and at all the water holes.
20 In that day will the Lord, with a razor which is hired beyond the river, with the king of Assyria, shave the head and the hair of the feet, yea, the beard also will it take away.
Isaiah 8:7-8
7 now therefore, behold, the Lord brings upon them the mighty flood waters of the River: the king of Assyria and all his glory. It will come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks.
8 and it will sweep onward into Judah. It will overflow and pass through; it will reach even to the neck. And the stretching out of its wings will fill the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.

Isaiah 36:1-22
1 Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.
2 The king of Assyria sent his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. He stood at the channel for the Upper Pool on the road to the Laundryman's Field.
3 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder came out to him.
4 He said to them: "Tell Hezekiah, This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: ‘What makes you so confident?
5 You say, yea, a word of the lips, `Counsel and mastery for war.' Now, on whom do you trust, that you revolt against me?
6 Look, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.
7 And if thou say to me, We rely upon the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?
8 »Now, make a deal with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses if you can put riders on them.
9 But how can you drive back one governor among the least of my master's servants, when you trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?
10 And now have I come up against this land to destroy it without the LORD? the LORD said to me, Go up to this land and destroy it.
11 And Eliakim and Shebna and Joah said to the chief of the cupbearers, Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. But do not speak to us in Jewish in the ears of the people on the wall.
12 And Rab-shakeh said, Is it to thy master and to thee that my master sent me to speak these words? Is it not to the men that sit on the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own urine with you?
13 Then the field commander stood and shouted loudly in the Judean language: "Listen to the great king, the king of Assyria.
14 "'This is what the king says: 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. He cannot rescue you.
15 Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us. This city won't be given into the hand of the king of Assyria."'
16 "'Do not listen to Hezekiah, because this is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me! Come out, and give yourselves up to me! Everyone will eat from his own grapevine and fig tree and drink from his own cistern.
17 until I come and take you to a land like your land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards,
18 lest Hezekiah mislead you, saying, 'the LORD will save us!' Did the gods of the nations each save his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?
20 Who among all the gods of these lands who delivered their land from my hand, that the LORD will deliver Jerusalem from my hand?
21 But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him."
22 Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah, who was over the ⌊palace⌋, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph, the reminder, came to Hezekiah with torn garments and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

Jeremiah 23:1-2
1 "Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" Says the LORD.

Jeremiah 39:1-8
1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem, and besieged it.
2 On the ninth day of the fourth month of Zedekiah's eleventh year as king, the city walls were broken through.
3 And all the officials of the king of Babylon came and sat in the Middle Gate: Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim the chief officer, Nergal-sharezer the high official, with all the rest of the officials of the king of Babylon.
4 When Zedekiah king of Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled and went out of the city at night by way of the king's garden through the gate between the two walls. Then he went out on the road toward the Arabah.
5 But the Chaldean army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And they took him, and made him go up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment on him.
6 At Riblah, the king of Babylon executed Zedekiah's sons right before his eyes. He also executed all the nobles of Judah.
7 Then he put out Zedekiah's eyes and bound him with bronze fetters to take him to Babylon.

6 Then he goes home, calls his friends and neighbors together, and says to them, 'Rejoice with me, because I've found my lost sheep!'
John 10:10-12
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12 The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock.

Ezekiel 31:3-17
3 Behold, the Ashshuri, a cedar in Lebanon with beautiful branches with an overshadowing forest and high in height; with his foliage among the thick foliage:
4 The waters nourished it. The deep made it to grow. The rivers of it ran all around its plantation and it sent out its channels to all the trees of the field.
5 In this way it became taller than all the trees of the field; and its branches were increased and its arms became long because of the great waters.
6 "'All the birds of the heavens nested in its boughs. Under its branches all the beasts of the field gave birth and all great nations lived under its shade.
7 So it was beautiful, being so tall and its branches so long, for its root was by great waters.
8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide it; the fir trees were not like its boughs, and the plane trees were not as its branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like it in its beauty.
9 I have made him beautiful by his many branches, so that all the trees of Eden in the garden of God envied him.
10 “Therefore thus said the Sovereign LORD: 'Because you are exalted in stature, and he has set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11 then I gave it into the hand of the leader of nations; he dealt thoroughly with it according to its wickedness. I drove it out.
12 »‘Alien tyrants of the nations have cut it down and left it. On the mountains and in all the valleys its branches have fallen and its boughs have been broken in all the ravines of the land. All the peoples of the earth have gone down from its shade and left it.
13 All the fowls of the air dwelt upon his ruins, and all the beasts of the field were among his branches.
14 so that all the trees by the waters may not be exalted in their stature, nor set their top among the clouds, nor their well-watered mighty ones stand erect in their height. For they have all been given over to death, to the earth beneath, among the sons of men, with those who go down to the pit.'
15 "The Sovereign LORD says: 'On the day when it went down to the grave I caused cries of sorrow. I closed the deep over it and held back its rivers. Its many waters were stopped up, and I made Lebanon mourn for it. All the trees of the field wilted away on account of it.
16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether p
17 They also went down with him into Sheol, to the slain of the sword, even his arm, who dwelt in his shadow in the midst of the nations.
Nahum 1:1-3
1 An oracle about Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 The LORD is a jealous God and avenges. The LORD avenges and is full of wrath. The LORD takes vengeance on his adversaries, and he maintains wrath against his enemies.
3 the LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and doth not at all clear [the guilty]: the LORD, -- his way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Zephaniah 2:13-15
13 And He will stretch out His hand against the north, and destroy Assyria, and will make Nineveh a desolation, dry like the desert.
14 Herds shall lie down in her midst, every wild animal of a nation; even the desert owl and the screech owl shall lodge on her capitals. A voice shall hoot in the window; rubble on the threshold; for the cedar is laid bare.
15 This is the city of rejoicing that lived securely; the one saying in her heart, "I am, and there is none besides me." How she has become a desolation, a lair for wild animals! Everyone who passes by her hisses and shakes his fist.

Daniel 3:1-30
1 King Nabuchodonosor made a statue of gold, of sixty cubits high, and six cubits broad, and he set it up in the plain of Dura, of the province of Babylon.
2 Then he summoned the regional authorities, governors, deputy governors, advisors, treasurers, judges, magistrates, and all of the other administrators of the provinces, ordering them to come to the dedication of the statue that he had erected.
3 The satraps, deputies, governors, judges, treasurers, counselors, sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces were gathered together at the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king set up. They stood before the image.
4 Then the herald proclaimed: »You are commanded to do this, O peoples, nations, and men of every language.
5 that whenever you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king has set up.
6 "Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into the midst of a blazing furnace."
7 Therefore at that time, when all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshiped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
8 Therefore at this time some astrologers came forward and they denounced the Jews.
9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live forever.
10 You, O king, have made a decree, that every man that hears the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image;
11 Whoever does not fall down and worship shall be thrown into a blazing fire furnace.'
12 There are men, Jews, whom you have set over the business of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, do not heed you. They do not serve your gods nor worship the golden image which you have set up.
13 Then ordered Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and ‘Abed-nego. Then were these men brought before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar said to them: "Is it true Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that you do not serve my god, nor worship the golden image that I set up?
15 "Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, zither, pipes, and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, good! But if you do not worship it you will be thrown into the midst of a blazing furnace that same hour. What god will be able to rescue you from my hand?"
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
17 "If it is so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the blazing furnace. He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image which you have set up.”
19 Out of control with rage, Nebuchadnezzar's facial expression changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and he ordered that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.
20 He commanded the mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to throw them into the blazing furnace.
21 So these men were bound in their coats, hosen, shoes with their other garments, and cast into the hot burning oven.
22 Then, because the king's command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 Bound firmly with ropes, these three men Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego fell into the blazing fire furnace.
24 Astonished, King Nebuchadnezzar stood up in terror, and asked his advisers, "Didn't we throw three men into the fire, bound firmly with ropes?" In reply they said to the king, "Yes, your majesty."
25 He said: "Look, I see four men walking in the midst of the fire. They are not hurt! The appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods!"
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar approached the opening of the blazing fire furnace. He shouted out, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out and come here!" So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire.
27 The satraps, the viceroys, the governors, and the royal advisors gazed at those men and saw that the fire had no effect on their bodies not a hair on their head was singed, their clothes were not burned, and they did not smell of fire.
28 Nebuchadnezzar spoke up and said: 'Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego! He sent his angel to deliver his servants who trusted in him. They disobeyed the king's command and were willing to risk their lives in order not to serve or worship any god except their own God.
29 "Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut into pieces. Their houses shall be made a dunghill. There is no other god that is able to deliver like this."
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
