Isaiah 1 Cross References - VIN

1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amos, which he saw upon Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah. 2 Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, for the LORD has spoken: "I reared children and I brought them up, but they rebelled against me. 3 The ox knows his owner, and the donkey his master's crib; but Israel doesn't know, my people do not understand. 4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that deal corruptly; they have forsaken the LORD, they have contemned the Holy One of Israel, they are turned away backward. 5 Why should you be beaten more, that you revolt more and more? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. 6 From the sole of the foot even to the head there is no soundness in it: wounds, welts, and open sores. They haven't been closed, bandaged, or soothed with oil. 7 Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire; your land, strangers eat it up in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. 8 The daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a field of melons, like a besieged city. 9 Unless the LORD of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have been as Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah. 10 Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom, listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah. 11 What is the abundance of your sacrifices to me? says the LORD. I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals and I do not delight in the blood of bulls and ram-lambs and goats. 12 When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? 13 Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. 14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth; they are become a burden unto me; I am weary to bear them, 15 "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood. 16 "Wash yourselves! Become clean! Get your evil deeds out of my sight. Stop doing evil. 17 Learn to do well—Seek justice, Correct the oppressor,—Vindicate the fatherless, Plead the cause of the widow, 18 "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. 19 "If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land. 20 but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken it." 21 How the faithful city has become a harlot! She who was full of justice! Righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers. 22 Your silver has become dross; your wine is diluted with water. 23 Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Every one loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not defend the orphan and the legal dispute of the widow does not come before them. 24 Therefore the Lord, the LORD of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, says: "Ah, I will get relief from my adversaries, and avenge myself of my enemies; 25 And I will turn my hand upon you, and thoroughly purge away your dross, and take away all your tin: 26 And I will restore your judges as at first, and your counselors as at the beginning; afterwards you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city. 27 Zion will be redeemed with justice and her converts with righteousness. 28 But the destruction of rebels and sinners shall be together, and those who forsake the LORD will perish. 29 For you will be ashamed of the oaks in which you delighted, and you will be disgraced because of the gardens that you have chosen. 30 You will be like an oak whose leaves wither and like a garden without water. 31 The strong will be like tinder, and his work like a spark. They will both burn together, and no one will quench them.”

2 Kings 18:1-20:21

1 Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign. 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, ruling in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years; his mother's name was Abi, the daughter of Zechariah. 3 He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD as David his father had done. 4 He removed the high places, and broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan. 5 Hezekiah had faith in the LORD, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah who were before him. 6 He held on to the LORD; he did not depart from following him, and he kept his commands that the LORD had commanded Moses. 7 And the LORD was with him. He was blessed wherever he went. And he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and did not serve him. 8 He smote the Philistines unto Gazah and its borders, from the watchmen`s tower to the fortified city. 9 It was the fourth year of King Hezekiah, the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel. Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and laid siege to it. 10 And at the end of three years they took it. Samaria was taken in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel. 11 Then the king of Assyria deported Israel to Assyria and settled them in Halah, in Habor, in the river regions of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes, 12 because they did not obey the voice of the LORD their God, but transgressed His covenant, and all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, and would not listen to them, nor do them. 13 In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them. 14 So Hezekiah king of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have done wrong. Withdraw from me. What you impose on me I will bear." So the king of Assyria imposed on Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. 15 Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king's house. 16 And at that time Hezekiah had the gold from the doors of the Lord's house, and from the door-pillars plated by him, cut off and gave it to the king of Assyria. 17 The king of Assyria sent his commander-in-chief (Tartan), his quartermaster, and his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They stood at the channel for the Upper Pool on the road to the Laundryman's Field. 18 And they called to the king, and Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder went out to them. 19 Rabshakeh told them, "Tell Hezekiah right now, 'This is what the great king, the king of Assyria says: "Why are you so confident? 20 "You say you have counsel and [military] strength for war. These are only words. To whom are you looking for support that you rebel against me? 21 Now, behold, you trust on the staff of this bruised reed, on Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.

2 Kings 19:1-20:21

1 Then king Hezekiah heard that, he rent his clothes and put on sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. 2 He sent Eliakim who was over the palace, Shebna the secretary, the elders, and the priests, all clothed in sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz. 3 They said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah, 'This day is a day of trouble, of rebuke, and of rejection; for the children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to deliver them. 4 Perhaps the LORD your God will hear all of the words of the chief commander whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to insult the living God, and he will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard. Therefore lift up a prayer for the remainder who are left.'" 5 King Hezekiah's men went to Isaiah. 6 Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘the LORD says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me. 7 "I am going to put a spirit in him so that he will hear a rumor and return to his own country. I will have him assassinated in his own country."’" 8 The field commander returned and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah. He had heard that the king left Lachish. 9 Sennacherib heard that King Tirhakah of Sudan was coming to fight him. Sennacherib sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying: 10 'Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: “Don't let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, by destroying them utterly. And will you be delivered? 12 "'Did the gods of the nations that my ancestors destroyed rescue Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar? 13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivah? 14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. 15 And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, saying, O LORD God of Israel, who dwellest above the cherubim, thou alone art the God unto all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. 16 Incline your ear, the LORD, and hear. Open your eyes, the LORD, and see. Hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to defy the living God. 17 Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands 18 and have thrown their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone, and they have destroyed them. 19 And now, O Lord our God, deliver us out of his hand, and all the kingdoms of the earth shall know that You alone are the Lord God. 20 Isaiah son of Amoz sent a message to Hezekiah: "This is what the LORD the God of Israel says: ‘You prayed to me about King Sennacherib of Assyria. I have heard you. 21 This is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: "The virgin daughter of Zion has despised you and ridiculed you. The daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

2 Kings 20:1-21

1 In those days Hezekiah became deathly ill, and Isaiah the son of Amoz the prophet came to him and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Command your house, for you are about to die; you will not recover.'" 2 So Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD. 3 "Remember now, LORD, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight." Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him. 5 "Turn back, and tell Hezekiah the prince of my people, 'Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father, "I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Look, I will heal you. On the third day, you shall go up to the house of the LORD. 6 And I will add fifteen years to your days. And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria. And I will defend this city for My own sake, and for My servant David's sake. 7 Isaiah said, "Take a cake of figs." They took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. 8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the house of the LORD the third day? 9 So Isaiah replied, "This will be your sign from the LORD that the LORD will do what he has promised. Shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?" 10 Then Hezekiah said: "It is an easy matter to have the shadow go forward ten steps. So have it go back ten steps." 11 So Isaiah cried out to the LORD, who brought the shadow back ten steps after it had gone down the stairway of Ahaz. 12 At that time Merodoch Baladan, son of Baladan king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, because he had heard that Hezekiah was sick. 13 Hezekiah listened to them, and showed them all the house of his precious things, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, the house of his armour and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah didn't show them. 14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah and said to him, What did these men say and where did they come from? And Hezekiah said, They came from a far country, even from Babylon. 15 And he said: What did they see in thy house? Ezechias said: They saw all the things that are in my house: There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them. 16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, "Hear the word of the LORD! 17 Behold, the days come that all that is in your house and what your fathers have laid up in store to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD. 18 And of your sons who will go forth from you, whom you will beget, they will take away. And they will be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon. 19 Hezekiah said to Isaiah: "The word of the LORD that you spoke is good. He added: "Is it not good that there is peace and security as long as I live?" 20 Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made the pool, and the conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah 21 Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles 26:1-32:33

1 Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah. 2 It was he that built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers. 3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he was ruling in Jerusalem for fifty-two years; his mother's name was Jechiliah of Jerusalem. 4 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Amaziah had done. 5 And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God blessed him. 6 Uzziah went to wage war against the Philistines. He tore down the walls of Gath, Jabneh, and Ashdod. He built cities near Ashdod and elsewhere among the Philistines. 7 God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur Baal, and the Meunim. 8 The Ammonites paid taxes to Uzziah. His fame spread to the border of Egypt because he became very powerful. 9 Uzziah also built towers in Jerusalem, at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the Angle and fortified them. 10 And he built towers in the desert and hewed many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the Shephelah and on the plain, along with farmers and vinedressers in the hills and in the fertile lands, for he loved the soil. 11 And Uzziah had troops trained and ready for war in divisions according to the number of their enrollment at the hand of Jeuel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah of the king's commanders. 12 The total number of family heads among these warriors was twenty-six hundred. 13 Uzziah commanded an army of 307,500 who could fight formidably on behalf of the king against any enemy. 14 Uzziah prepared shields, spears, helmets, armor, bows, and stones for slings for the entire army. 15 In Jerusalem, he made devices, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and on the battlements, with which to shoot arrows and great stones. His name spread far abroad, because he was marvelously helped until he was strong. 16 But when he became strong his heart was lifted up to [his] downfall; and he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense. 17 But Azariah the priest went in after him with four score priests of the LORD that were bold men. 18 And they stood against King Uzziah and said to him, "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but it is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have acted unfaithfully. There will be no honor for you from the LORD God." 19 Then Uzziah was angry. He had a censer in his hand to burn incense, and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests in the LORD's house, beside the altar of incense. 20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him. 21 So King Uzziah was leprous until the day of his death, and he lived in a separate house as a leper, for he was cut off from the house of the LORD. And Jotham his son was over the house of the king, judging the people of the land. 22 Everything else about Uzziah is recorded by the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz. 23 So Uzziah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead

2 Chronicles 27:1-32:33

1 Jotham was twenty-five years old when he became king; and he was ruling in Jerusalem for sixteen years; and his mother's name was Jerushah, the daughter of Zadok. 2 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Uzziah had done; but he did not go into the Temple of the Lord. And the people still went on in their evil ways. 3 Jotham built the Upper Gate of the LORD’s Temple and did extensive building of the wall at the Ophel. 4 He built cities in the hills of Judah. He also built forts and towers in the wooded areas. 5 He fought with the king of the Ammonites and conquered them. That year the Ammonites gave him seven thousand and five hundred pounds of silver, sixty thousand bushels of wheat, and sixty thousand bushels of barley. The Ammonites gave him the same amount for two more years. 6 Joatham grew strong, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God. 7 The rest of the acts of Jotham and all his wars and his ways are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. 8 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he was ruling in Jerusalem for sixteen years. 9 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David; and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles 28:1-32:33

1 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what is right in the eyes of the LORD like David his ancestor. 2 but walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and also made casted images for the Baals. 3 And he himself burned incense in the valley of Ben-Hinnom and burned his sons in the fire, according to the detestable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the Israelites. 4 And he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places, on the hilltops, and under every flourishing tree. 5 the LORD his God handed him over to the king of Aram, who defeated him, captured many prisoners, and brought them to Damascus. He also handed him over to the king of Israel, who decisively defeated him. 6 In one day Pekah, son of Remaliah, killed one hundred and twenty thousand soldiers in Judah because they had abandoned the LORD the God of their ancestors. 7 Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king's son, Azrikam the ruler of the house, and Elkanah who was next to the king. 8 The children of Israel carried away captive of their brothers two hundred thousand women, sons, and daughters, and also took away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria. 9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded: and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, "Look, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage which has reached up to heaven. 10 »Now you intend to enslave the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem. But are you not also guilty of sinning against the LORD your God? 11 So now, listen to me and return the captives of your brothers whom you have taken captive, for the fierce anger of Yahweh is against you." 12 Then rose up certain of the chiefs of the sons of Ephraim—Azariah son of Jehohanan, Berechiah son of Meshillemoth, and Jehizkiah son of Shallum, and Amasa son of Hadlai,—against them who were coming in from the army; 13 And they said to them, You shall not bring the captives here. For we have offended the LORD, and you intend to add to our sins and to our trespass. For our trespass is great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel. 14 So the soldiers left the captives and the plunder before the commanders and all the assembly. 15 The men mentioned by name rose up and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all who were naked among them, dressed them, gave them sandals, and gave them something to eat and to drink, anointed them, carried all the feeble of them on donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brothers. Then they returned to Samaria. 16 At that time King Ahaz sent to the king of Assyria to help him, 17 The Edomites had again invaded and defeated Judah and captured prisoners. 18 The Philistines raided the foothills and the Negev in Judah. They captured and began living in Beth Shemesh, Aijalon, Gederoth, Soco and its villages, Timnah and its villages, and Gimzo and its villages. 19 For the LORD had brought Judah low, because of Ahaz king of Israel,—for he had given the rein in Judah, and, been grievously unfaithful, with the LORD. 20 Tilgath Pilneser king of Assyria came to him, and gave him trouble, but didn't strengthen him. 21 Ahaz took some of the things from the LORD’s temple, the royal palace, and the princes. He gave them to the king of Assyria. But that did not help him. 22 In the midst of his troubles, King Ahaz became more and more unfaithful to the LORD. 23 He sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him, reasoning, "The gods of the kings of Aram helped them, so I'll sacrifice to them so they will help me!" But those gods brought about his downfall, and the downfall of all of Israel, too. 24 And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the house of God and brake them, and shut up the doors of the house of the LORD, and made him altars in all corners of Jerusalem. 25 In every city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked the LORD, the God of his fathers, to anger. 26 The rest of his acts and all his ways, both first and last, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 27 Ahaz slept in death with his ancestors. He was buried in the city of Jerusalem because they did not put him into the tombs of the kings of Israel. His son Hezekiah succeeded him as king.

2 Chronicles 29:1-32:33

1 Ezekias was twenty five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Abia. She was a daughter of Zacharias. 2 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David had done. 3 In the first month of his first year as king, he opened the doors of the LORD’s temple and repaired them. 4 And he brought in the priests and the Levites, and assembled them in the east street, 5 And he said to them, "Hear me, O Levites! Sanctify yourselves now, and sanctify the house of the LORD, the God of your ancestors, and bring out the defilement from the sanctuary. 6 "Our ancestors were unfaithful and did what the LORD our God considered evil. They deserted him. They turned away from the LORD's tent and turned their backs on him. 7 They also shut the doors of the portico and extinguished the lamps. And they did not burn incense or offer burnt offerings in the sanctuary to the God of Israel. 8 That's why the LORD was angry with Judah and Jerusalem and made them an object of terror, horror, and derision, as you've seen with your own eyes. 9 For, see, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this. 10 Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the LORD, the God of Israel, that his fierce anger may turn away from us. 11 My sons, do not be negligent now. For the LORD has chosen you to stand before Him, to serve Him, and that you should minister to Him and burn incense. 12 So the Levites started to work. From Kohath's descendants were Mahath, son of Amasai, and Joel, son of Azariah. From Merari's descendants were Kish, son of Abdi, and Azariah, son of Jehallelel. From Gershon's descendants were Joah, son of Zimmah, and Eden, son of Joah. 13 And from the descendants of Elizaphan: Shimri and Jeiel; and from the descendants of Asaph: Zechariah and Mattaniah; 14 and from the descendants of Heman: Jeiel and Shimei; and from the descendants of Jeduthun: Shemaiah and Uzziel— 15 And they gathered their brothers and sanctified themselves, and came, according to the command of the king, by the words of the LORD, to clean the house of the LORD. 16 And the priests went into the house of the LORD to cleanse it, and brought out all the uncleanness that they found in the temple of the LORD, and in the court of the house of the LORD. And the Levites took it and carried it out into the brook Kidron. 17 Now they began to sanctify on the first day of the first month, and on the eighth day of the month they came to the porch of the LORD; and they sanctified the house of the LORD in eight days; and in the sixteenth day of the first month they finished. 18 And they went in to king Hezekiah, and said, We have cleansed all the house of the LORD, and the altar of burnt-offering with all its vessels, and the table of the [bread] to be set in rows, and all its vessels; 19 In addition, we have prepared and rededicated all of the utensils that King Ahaz threw away during his unfaithful reign, and now they're back in service at the LORD's altar." 20 Early the next morning, King Hezekiah got up and assembled the city officials and went up to the LORD's temple, 21 They brought seven bulls, seven rams, seven lambs, and seven male goats for a sin offering for the kingdom and for the sanctuary and for Judah. He commanded the priests the sons of Aaron to offer them on the altar of the LORD. 22 And they slaughtered the bullocks, and the priests received the blood, and sprinkled it on the altar; and they slaughtered the rams, and sprinkled the blood on the altar; and they slaughtered the lambs, and sprinkled the blood on the altar. 23 They brought near the male goats for the sin offering before the king and the assembly; and they laid their hands on them. 24 and then the priests slaughtered them and purged the altar with their blood as a sin offering to atone for all Israel, because the king ordered that the burnt offering and the sin offering be made for all Israel. 25 And he set the Levites in the house of the LORD with cymbals, with lutes, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king`s seer, and of Nathan the prophet; for the commandment was of the LORD through his prophets. 26 The Levites stood with David's instruments, and the priests with the trumpets. 27 Hezekiah commanded to offer the burnt offering on the altar. When the burnt offering began, the song of the LORD began also, and the trumpets, together with the instruments of David king of Israel. 28 All the assembly worshiped, the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded. All this continued until the burnt offering was finished. 29 And when the offering was finished, the king and all who were found with him knelt down and bowed themselves. 30 And king Hezekiah and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praise to the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and bowed their heads and worshipped. 31 Then Hezekiah answered and said, "Now you have consecrated yourselves to the LORD. Come near and bring sacrifices and thank offerings to the house of the LORD!" And the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and all who were willing in heart brought burnt offerings. 32 The number of the burnt offerings which the assembly brought was seventy bulls, one hundred rams, and two hundred lambs: all these were for a burnt offering to the LORD. 33 And they consecrated to the Lord six hundred oxen, and three thousand sheep.

2 Chronicles 30:1-32:33

1 Then Hezekiah sent word to all Israel and Judah, and sent letters to Ephraim and Manasseh, requesting them to come to the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, to keep the Passover to the Lord, the God of Israel. 2 The king, his officials, and the whole assembly in Jerusalem decided to celebrate the Passover in the second month. 3 but they had been unable to celebrate it then because not enough priests had consecrated themselves and the people had not yet been gathered together in Jerusalem. 4 The thing was right in the eyes of the king and of all the assembly. 5 They decided to send an announcement throughout Israel from Beersheba to Dan. They summoned everyone to come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover of the LORD God of Israel. These people had not celebrated it in large numbers as the written instructions said they should. 6 Messengers carried letters from the king and his officials throughout Israel and Judah. The king's order said: "Israelites should return to the LORD the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel. Then he will return to the few of you who escaped from the power of the kings of Assyria. 7 Do not be like your fathers and your brothers, who were sinners against the Lord, the God of their fathers, so that he made them a cause of fear, as you see. 8 Now, do not stiffen your neck as your fathers, but give a hand to the LORD and come to his sanctuary, which he has consecrated forever, and serve the LORD your God that his fierce anger may turn away from you. 9 For when you return to the LORD, your brothers and your children will find compassion before their captors and return to this land, for the LORD your God is gracious and compassionate, and he will not turn away his face from you if you return to him." 10 So the runners went from town to town through all the country of Ephraim and Manasseh as far as Zebulun: but they were laughed at and made sport of. 11 Nevertheless some men of Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem. 12 Also in Judah the hand of God was to give them one heart to do the commandment of the king and of the princes, according to the word of the LORD. 13 And much people were assembled to Jerusalem to celebrate the solemnity of the unleavened bread in the second month: 14 They arose and removed the altars in Jerusalem. They also removed all the incense altars and cast them into the Kidron Brook. 15 And they slaughtered the Passover lamb on the fourteenth day of the second month. And the priests and the Levites were disgraced, so they consecrated themselves and brought burnt offerings into the house of the LORD. 16 And they stood in their place in their manner, according to the Law of Moses the man of God. The priests sprinkled the blood from the hand of the Levites. 17 Many people in the assembly had not made themselves holy. So the Levites had to kill the Passover lambs for all who were not clean and could not make their lambs holy for the LORD. 18 For a multitude of the people, even many of Ephraim, and Manasseh, Issachar, and Zebulun, had not cleansed themselves, yet did they eat the passover contrary to what was written. But Hezekiah prayed for them, saying, The good LORD pardon everyone 19 who sets his heart to seek God, the LORD, the God of his fathers, even if they aren't clean according to the purification of the sanctuary." 20 And the LORD heard Hezekiah and healed the people. 21 Thus the Israelites in Jerusalem celebrated the Festival of Unleavened Bread for seven days with great joy. Each day the Levites and priests praised the LORD in song. They played the LORD's instruments loudly. 22 Hezekiah spoke encouragingly to all the Levites who had good understanding in the service of the LORD. So they ate throughout the feast for the seven days, offering sacrifices of peace offerings, and making confession to the LORD, the God of their fathers. 23 Then the whole assembly decided to celebrate the festival for seven more days. So they joyfully celebrated for seven more days. 24 for Hezekiah the king of Judah had provided one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for the assembly, and the princes provided one thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep for the assembly. And many priests consecrated themselves. 25 Everyone in the assembly of Judah rejoiced, as did the priests, the Levites, and the people who gathered together from throughout Israel, including whose who came from the land of Israel and those who lived in Judah. 26 So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was nothing like this in Jerusalem. 27 And the priests and the Levites arose and blessed the people, and their voice was heard, and their prayer went up unto his holy dwelling place heaven.

2 Chronicles 31:1-32:33

1 And when all this was finished, all Israel who were found went out to the cities of Judah and smashed the standing pillars, and cut down the Asherahs, and broke down the high places and the altars out of all Judah, and Benjamin, and in Ephraim, and Manasseh, even to the end. And all the sons of Israel returned, each to his possession, to their cities. 2 Hezekiah appointed the divisions of the priests and the Levites after their divisions, every man according to his service, both the priests and the Levites, for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the LORD's camp. 3 And the king assigned a part of his substance for the morning and evening whole burnt offerings, and for the whole burnt offerings on the sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the festivals prescribed in the law of the Lord. 4 Moreover he commanded the people who lived in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might give themselves to the law of the LORD. 5 As the word spread around, the people of Israel gave generously for the first fruits of grain, wine, oil, honey, and all of the produce of the fields. They generously gave a tithe of everything. 6 The children of Israel and Judah, who lived in the cities of Judah, also brought in the tithe of cattle and sheep, and the tithe of dedicated things which were consecrated to the LORD their God, and laid them in heaps. 7 The heaping was begun in the third month and finished in the seventh. 8 When Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD and his people Israel. 9 And Hezekiah asked the priests and the Levites about the heaps. 10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat and have plenty left. For the LORD has blessed His people, and this great store is left. 11 Hezekiah gave an order to prepare storerooms in the LORD's temple, and so they did. 12 They faithfully brought in the gifts, tithes, and consecrated materials, and Connie the Levite was placed in charge of them. His brother Shimei was second in command, 13 And Jehiel, Azaziah, Nathan, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismachiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were chief officers under the hand of Conaniah and Shimei, his brother, by appointment of King Hezekiah. And Azaraiah was leader of the house of God. 14 Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, the keeper of the east gate, was over the freewill offerings of God, to distribute the offerings of the LORD, and the most holy things. 15 Under him were Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah, in the cities of the priests, in their office of trust, to give to their brothers by divisions, to the great as well as to the small; 16 besides those from three years old and upward who as males were entered in the genealogical register, -- all that came into the house of the LORD, as the duty of every day required, for their service in their charges, according to their divisions, 17 And likewise to the priests recorded by their genealogies after their family divisions, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward, in their charges by their divisions; 18 And to the enrolling upon all their little ones, their wives and their sons, and their daughters, for all the convocation: for in their faithfulness they will consecrate themselves holy: 19 Also of the sons of Aaron the priests, who were in the fields of the pasture lands of their cities, in every city, men were designated by name, to give portions to all the males among the priests, and to all that were listed by genealogies among the Levites. 20 This is what Hezekiah did throughout Judah. He did what was good and right and true to the LORD his God. 21 And in every work which he undertook in the service of the house of the Lord, and in the law and in the statutes, he sought his God with his whole heart, and did it and prospered.

2 Chronicles 32:1-33

1 After all of these acts of faithfulness occurred, King Sennacherib of Assyria came, invaded Judah, and laid siege to the fortified cities, thinking to conquer them for himself. 2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he intended to fight against Jerusalem, 3 He consulted with his princes and his mighty men to stop up the waters of the springs which were without the city: and they helped him. 4 A large crowd gathered as they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the land. They said: Why should the kings of Assyria find plenty of water? 5 Hezekiah worked hard. He rebuilt all the broken sections of the wall. He built the towers taller and built another wall outside the city wall. He strengthened the Millo in the City of David, and made plenty of weapons and shields. 6 and appointed military officers over the people; and having assembled them before him in the street of the valley gate, he spoke affectionately to them, and said, 7 “Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him. 8 with him, is an arm of flesh, but, with us, is the LORD our God, to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people leaned upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. 9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying, 10 Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do you trust, that you remain in the siege in Jerusalem? 11 "Hezekiah your king is telling you that the LORD your God will save you from me. But he is lying! You will die of hunger and thirst." 12 Has not this same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, Give worship before one altar only, burning offerings on it? 13 Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand? 14 Who from all the gods of these nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, which were able to deliver his people from my hand, that your God shall be able to deliver you from my hand? 15 And now, do not let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, nor believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand, from the hand of my fathers; also, surely your god shall not deliver you from my hand. 16 Sennacherib's officers said more against the LORD God and his servant Hezekiah. 17 And he had written letters to blaspheme the LORD, the God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, As the gods of the nations of the lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah shall not deliver His people from my hand. 18 And they called with a great voice in Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to terrify them, that they might capture the city. 19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of man`s hand. 20 King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, prayed about this and called to heaven. 21 The LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, some of his own offspring killed him there with the sword. 22 And the LORD saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side. 23 many brought gifts for the Lord to Jerusalem, and presents to Ezekias king of Juda. And he was thenceforth magnified in the eyes of all the nations. 24 Hezekiah became sick and was about to die. He prayed to the LORD, who answered him and gave him a miraculous sign. 25 But Hezekiah didn't render again according to the grace done to him. His heart was lifted up; therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem. 26 And Hezekiah was humbled for the pride of his heart, he and the people of Jerusalem, and the wrath of the LORD did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah. 27 Hezekiah became richer and was highly honored. He prepared storehouses for himself to hold silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuables. 28 And he made storehouses for the increase of grain and wine and oil, and stalls for all kinds of animals, and stalls for flocks. 29 He made towns for himself. He gathered much property in flocks and herds: for God had given him great wealth. 30 Hezekiah stopped up the upper outlet of the Gihon springs and diverted them down to the western side of the city of David. He prospered in everything he did. 31 When the leaders of Babylon sent ambassadors to ask him about the miraculous sign that had happened in the land, God left him. God did this to test him, to find out everything that was in Hezekiah's heart. 32 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 33 Hezekiah slept in death with his ancestors. He was buried in the upper tombs of David's descendants. When Hezekiah died, all of Judah and the people in Jerusalem honored him. His son Manasseh succeeded him as king.

Yet you were naked and bare."' 8 And I passed by you, and I looked on you, and, behold, your time was the time of love. And I spread My skirt over you and covered your nakedness. And I swore to you and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign LORD. And you became Mine. 9 And I bathed you in water, and washed your blood from you, and anointed you with oil. 10 I clothed you also with embroidered work, and put sealskin sandals on you. I dressed you with fine linen and covered you with silk. 11 "'I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands and a necklace around your neck.'" 12 And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. 13 »‘You were adorned with gold and silver. Your dress was of fine linen, silk and embroidered cloth. Ezekiel 20:5-32

5 And say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: In the day that I chose Israel, and lifted up My hand to the seed of the house of Jacob, and made Myself known to them in the land of Egypt; when I lifted up My hand to them, saying, I am the LORD your God; 6 in that day I swore to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands. 7 And I said to them, Cast away every man the abominations of his eyes and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt. I am the LORD your God. 8 But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me. They did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. 9 But I worked for my name’s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, among which they were, in whose sight I made myself known to them, in bringing them out of the land of Egypt. 10 Therefore I brought them out from the land of Egypt, and brought them into the desert. 11 and I gave them my statutes and declared unto them my rights, by which the man that does them shall live by them. 12 '""I also gave them certain days to worship me as a sign between us so that they would know that I, the LORD, made them holy. 13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them. 14 But I wrought for my name`s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. 15 Yet even l lifted up my hand to them. in the desert,— That I would not b1ing them into the land which I had given to them flowing with milk and honey, The beauty, it was. of all lands: 16 because they rejected my ordinances, and did not walk in my statutes, and profaned my Sabbaths, for their heart went after their idols. 17 '""But I had compassion on them. I did not destroy them or completely wipe them out in the desert. 18 I said to their children in the wilderness, 'Don't walk in the statutes of your fathers. Don't observe their ordinances or defile yourselves with their idols. 19 I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my rights, and do them; 20 Make my Sabbaths holy. They shall be a sign between me and you, that you may know that I am the LORD your God.' 21 '""But the children rebelled against me. They did not walk in my statutes. They were not careful to obey my ordinances. If a man obeys them, he will live. They profaned my Sabbaths. So I resolved to pour out my wrath on them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness. 22 But I withdrew my hand, and wrought for my name`s sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. 23 Again I lifted up my hand upon them in the wilderness, to disperse them among the nations, and scatter them through the countries: 24 because they had not executed my ordinances, but had rejected my statutes, and had profaned my Sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols. 25 Therefore I also gave them statutes that were not good and by which they could not live. 26 Yea I let them defile themselves with their gifts, when they caused every firstborn to pass through the fire,-.that I might make them desolate. To the end they might know that, I, am the LORD. 27 Therefore, son of man, speak to the house of Israel and say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed Me, in that they have committed a sin against Me. 28 For after I had brought them into the land that I promised to give them, when they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees: they made there offerings, and provoked me with their oblations, making sweet savours there, and poured out their drink offerings. 29 Then I said to them, What is the high place to which ye go? and its name is called Bamah to this day. 30 Therefore say to the house of Israel, So says the Sovereign LORD: Are you defiled in the same way as your fathers? And do you go whoring after their abominations? 31 When you offer your gifts, when you make your sons pass through the fire, do you pollute yourselves with all your idols to this day? Should I be inquired of by you, house of Israel? As I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I will not be inquired of by you! 32 And it shall not be as ye say, We will be as the nations, and as the tribes of the earth, to worship stocks and stones.

16 And the first day is a holy convocation and the seventh day becomes a holy convocation to you; work not therein, except what every soul eat - only work that:

1 the LORD spoke to Moses: 2 »Tell the Israelites: ‘These are the appointed festivals with the LORD. You must announce these as holy assemblies. 3 Six days you shall do work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath rest, a holy convocation to the lord. All work you shall not do, it is a Sabbath to the lord in all your house. 4 " 'These are the LORD's appointed times, holy assemblies, which you shall proclaim at their appointed time. 5 "'The Passover, celebrated to honor the LORD, begins at sunset on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 And on the fifteenth day of this month is the LORD's Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you shall eat unleavened bread. 7 In the first day you shall have a holy assembly. You shall do no regular work, 8 but you shall offer an offering made by fire to the LORD seven days. In the seventh day is a holy assembly: you shall do no regular work'. 9 the LORD spoke to Moses: 10 "Speak to the Israelites, and say to them, 'When you come to the land that I am about to give to you and you reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruit of your harvest to the priest. 11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD for your acceptance; the priest shall wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12 and the day you wave the omer work an integrious he lamb - a yearling son for a holocaust to Yah Veh: 13 together with its approach present of two tenths of an ephah of flour mingled with oil, a fire offering to the LORD, a fragrant odor, and its libation of wine, a fourth of a hin. 14 "'Do not eat bread, roasted grain, or fresh grain until this same day. Then bring the offering to your God. It is a long lasting law for generations to come wherever you live. 15 "'You shall count from the next day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be completed: 16 You will number fifty days, even to the morrow after the seventh Sabbath and you will offer a new meal offering to the LORD. 17 Out of your dwellings shall ye bring two wave-loaves, of two tenths of fine flour; with leaven shall they be baken; [as] first-fruits to the LORD. 18 You shall present with the bread seven lambs without blemish a year old, one young bull, and two rams. They shall be a burnt offering to the LORD, with their grain offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma to the LORD. 19 You shall offer one male goat for a sin offering, and two male lambs a year old for a sacrifice of peace offerings. 20 The priest shall wave them with the bread of the first fruits for a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs. They shall be holy to the LORD for the priest. 21 "'Do none of your daily work. Gather for worship. Your descendants are to observe this regulation from generation to generation, no matter where they live. 22 And when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not completely reap the corner of your field, nor shall you gather the gleaning of your harvest; you shall leave them for the poor, and for the alien: I am the LORD your God. 23 And the Lord said to Moses, 24 "Observe a special day of rest on the first day of the seventh month. Gather together for worship when the trumpets sound. 25 Do no field-work and give to the Lord an offering made by fire. 26 the LORD spoke to Moses: 27 But on the tenth day of this seventh month is the day of atonement, a holy convocation shall it be unto you, and ye shall fast; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord. 28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God. 29 Every soul who shall not humble himself on that day, shall be cut off from among his people. 30 "I will destroy those who do any work on that day. 31 "Do not do any work! It is a long lasting law for generations to come wherever you live. 32 It is a sabbath of rest, and you shall afflict your souls beginning on the ninth day of the month. From evening until evening you shall celebrate your sabbaths. 33 the LORD spoke to Moses: 34 Say to the children of Israel, On the fifteenth day of this seventh month let the feast of tents be kept to the Lord for seven days. 35 On the first day shall be a holy assembly: you shall do no regular work. 36 For seven days you must present an offering made by fire to the LORD. On the eighth day it shall be a holy assembly for you, and you shall present an offering made by fire to the LORD; it is a celebration; you must not do any regular work. 37 These are the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you shall proclaim to be holy assemblies, to offer an offering made by fire to the LORD, a burnt offering, and a grain offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, each on its own day; 38 "'This is in addition to the LORD's days of worship, your gifts, all your vows, and your freewill offerings to the LORD. 39 Surely, on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the yield of the land, shall ye celebrate the festival of the LORD seven days,—on the first day, a sacred rest, and, on the eighth day, a sacred rest. 40 "'Take the best fruits, palm branches, the branches of leafy trees and poplars on the first day, and celebrate in the presence of the LORD your God for seven days. 41 "‘It is the LORD’s festival. Celebrate it for seven days each year. This is a long lasting law for generations to come. Celebrate this festival in the seventh month. 42 "'Live in booths for seven days. Everyone born in Israel must live in booths. 43 so that your generations shall know that I made the Israelites live in booths when I brought them from the land of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.'" 44 So Moses declared to the children of Israel the appointed feasts of the LORD.

It also is a food offering, an odor pleasing to the LORD. 9 “'On the Sabbath day, you shall offer two male lambs a year old without defect, and two tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a meal offering mixed with oil, and its drink offering: 10 This is the burned offering for every Sabbath day, in addition to the regular burned offering, and its drink offering. 11 “‘In the beginnings of your months, you shall offer a burnt offering to Yahweh: two young bulls, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without defect, 12 "'With each bull there will be a grain offering of twenty-four cups of flour mixed with olive oil, with each ram a grain offering of sixteen cups of flour mixed with olive oil. 13 "'With each one-year-old lamb a grain offering of eight cups of flour mixed with olive oil. This is a burnt offering, a soothing aroma, an offering by fire to the LORD. 14 And their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine to a bull, and the third of a hin to a ram, and a fourth a hin to a lamb. This is the burnt offering of every month throughout the months of the year. 15 "'In addition to the daily burnt offering with its wine offering, one male goat must be offered to the LORD as an offering for sin. 16 And the fourteenth day of the first month shall be Passover unto the LORD. 17 On the fifteenth day of this month there is to be a feast; for seven days let your food be unleavened cakes. 18 In the first day shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no regular work, 19 but you shall offer an offering made by fire, a burnt offering to Yahweh: two young bulls, one ram, and seven male lambs a year old. They shall be without defect, 20 And their gift fine flour mingled with oil: three tenths for a bullock, and two tenths for the ram, ye shall do. 21 and eight cups for each of the seven lambs. 22 and one male goat for a sin offering, to make atonement for you. 23 "‘Offer these in addition to the morning burnt offering. 24 In this way, every day for seven days, give the food of the offering made by fire, a sweet smell to the Lord: it is to be offered in addition to the regular burned offering, and its drink offering. 25 "'On the seventh day you must have a holy assembly. You must not do any regular work. 26 " 'And on the day of firstfruits, when you are presenting a new offering for the LORD during your Festival of Weeks, you will have a holy convocation; you will not do any regular work. 27 "‘Offer a burnt offering as an odor pleasing to the LORD: two young bulls, one ram, and seven one-year-old male lambs, all without any defects. 28 And their grain offerings of flour mixed with oil, three-tenths of an ephah unto one bullock, two-tenths of an ephah unto one ram, 29 a tenth deal with each of the seven lambs;

Ezekiel 16:1-63

1 The word of the LORD came to me: 2 "Son of man, confront Jerusalem with her detestable practices. 3 "Say this, 'The Sovereign LORD says this to Jerusalem: "Your ancestry and birth were in the land of the Canaanites. Your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite. 4 "'"On the day you were born your cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water to make you clean, nor were you rubbed with salt or wrapped in cloths. 5 "'"No one looked on you with pity or had compassion enough to do any of these things for you. Instead, you were thrown out into the open field, for on the day you were born you were despised. 6 " 'And I passed by you, and I saw you kicking about in your blood, and I said to you in your blood, "Live! 7 "'I made you numerous like plants of the field. You grew up, became tall and reached the age for fine ornaments. Your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. You ate fine flour, honey and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. 14 And your name went out among the nations, because of your beauty, for it was perfect by My splendor which I had set on you, declares the Sovereign LORD. 15 "'But you trusted your beauty. You used your fame to become a prostitute. You had sex with everyone who walked by. 16 "'You took some of your clothes and made your worship sites colorful. This is where you acted like a prostitute. Such things should not happen. They should not occur. 17 You also took your beautiful jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself images of men, and played the prostitute with them. 18 And you took your embroidered garments and covered them and set my oil and my incense before them. 19 Also My food which I gave you, fine flour and oil and honey which I fed you, you have given it to their face for a soothing aroma. And it happened, declares the Sovereign LORD. 20 »‘You took your sons and daughters, who belonged to me, and you sacrificed them as food to idols. Was your prostitution not enough? 21 "'You slaughtered my children and presented them as burnt offerings to idols. 22 In all your abominations and your prostitution you have not remembered the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, and were wallowing in your blood. 23 Woe, woe to you, says the Sovereign LORD! For it happened, after all your evil, 24 you also build an arch to yourself and work a ramah in every broadway: 25 At the head of every street you built your high place and you disgraced your beauty and you spread your feet for every passerby, and you increased your whoring. 26 And you prostituted with the Egyptians, your neighbors who were sexually aroused, and you increased your fornication to provoke me. 27 And look! I stretched out my hand against you, and I reduced your portion, and I gave you into the desire of your haters, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed because of your lewd conduct. 28 And you prostituted with the Assyrians on account of your insatiable lust, and you prostituted with them, and still you were not satisfied. 29 And you increased your fornication to the land of traders, to Chaldea, and even with this you were not satisfied. 30 How weak is your heart, says the Sovereign LORD, seeing you do all these things, the work of an impudent prostitute, 31 In that you build your shrine at the head of every street, and make your high place in every street; and have not been as a harlot, in that you scorned payment; 32 O adulterous wife, that taketh strangers instead of her husband. 33 They give a gift to all harlots, but you give your gifts to all your lovers, and bribe them to come to you from all around, for your fornication. 34 And the contrary is in you of women in your whoredoms; whereas no one whores after you: and in that you give a payoff and no payoff is given to you: so you are contrary. 35 Therefore, O prostitute, hear the word of the LORD. 36 So says the Sovereign LORD: Because your lewdness was poured out, and your nakedness was bared in your fornications with your lovers and with the idols of your abominations, and by the blood of your sons whom you gave to them; 37 behold, therefore I will gather all your lovers, with whom you have been pleased, even all whom you loved, with all whom you have hated; I will even gather them against you from all around, and will uncover your nakedness to them, and they will see all your nakedness. 38 "I will judge you like women who commit adultery or shed blood are judged. I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy. 39 I will also give you into their hand, and they will throw down your vaulted place, and break down your lofty places. They will strip you of your clothes, and take your beautiful jewels. They will leave you naked and bare. 40 "They will incite a crowd against you and they will stone you and cut you to pieces with their swords. 41 "They will burn your houses with fire and execute judgments on you in the sight of many women. Then I will stop you from playing the harlot. You will also no longer pay your lovers. 42 And I will satisfy my rage on you, and my jealousy will turn away from you, and I will be calm, and I will not be angry any longer. 43 '"You have not remembered the days of your youth but have enraged me by all these things. I will therefore bring your conduct down on your own head,' declares the Sovereign LORD. 'That way you will not commit this lewdness on top of all your other abominations. 44 '"Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb concerning you: "Like mother, like daughter." 45 You are the daughter of your mother, who loathes her husband and her children; and you are the sister of your sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. 46 '"Now your older sister is Samaria, who lives north of you with her daughters. Your younger sister, who lives south of you, is Sodom with her daughters. 47 Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but in all thy ways thou hast been more corrupt than they. 48 As I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, your sister Sodom, she and her daughters, have not done as you and your daughters have done. 49 ‘»This was the guilt of your sister Sodom. She and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. 50 '"They were arrogant and did disgusting things in front of me. So I did away with them when I saw this. 51 Samaria hasn’t committed half of your sins; but you have multiplied your abominations more than they, and have justified your sisters by all your abominations which you have done. 52 Also, you bear your disgrace, by which you furnished justification to your sisters through your sins by which you acted more abominably than they; they were more righteous than you, and also, you be ashamed and bear your disgrace through your making your sister righteous. 53 ‘»I will restore the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and Samaria and her daughters. I will also restore your fortune along with theirs. 54 that you may bear your punishment, and be dishonored for all that you have done in provoking Me to anger. 55 ‘»When Sodom and her daughters and Samaria and her daughters return to what they once were, you and your daughters will return to what you once were. 56 For your mouth reports not your sister Sedom in the day of your pomp 57 before your wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of your reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all her neighbors, the daughters of the Philistines who hated you from all around. 58 You are bearing your wickedness and your abominations, declares the LORD. 59 For so says the Sovereign LORD: I will even deal with you as you have done, who have despised the oath in breaking the covenant. 60 But I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish to you an everlasting covenant. 61 Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed, when you receive your sisters, your elder sisters and your younger; and I will give them to you for daughters, but not by your covenant. 62 And I will establish my covenant with you and you will know that I am the LORD, 63 '"I will forgive all the wrongs you have done, but you will remember them and be too ashamed to open your mouth.' The Sovereign LORD has spoken."

Ezekiel 22:1-23

1 The word of the LORD came to me saying, 2 You, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the city of blood? So now cause her to know all her abominations. 3 You shall say, 'The Sovereign LORD says: “A city that sheds blood within herself, that her time may come, and that makes idols against herself to defile her! 4 You have become guilty in your blood that you have shed, and are defiled in your idols which you have made! You have caused your days to draw near, and have come even to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations, and a mocking to all the countries. 5 Those who are near, and those who are far from you, will mock you, you infamous one, full of tumult. 6 Behold, the princes of Israel, each one in you used his power to shed blood. 7 In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow. 8 You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths. 9 In you are men of slander to shed blood; and in you they eat on the mountains; in your midst they do unchaste acts. 10 In you they have let the shame of their fathers be seen; in you they have done wrong to a woman at the time when she was unclean. 11 And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has violated his sister, his father's daughter. 12 They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD. 13 And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst. 14 Can your heart endure, or can your hands be strong, in the days that I will deal with you? I, the LORD, have spoken it and will do it. 15 And I will disperse thee in the nations, and will scatter thee among the countries, and I will put an end to thy uncleanness in thee. 16 And you will be profaned in you in the eyes of the nations. And you shall know that I am the LORD. 17 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 18 "Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me. All of them are the copper, tin, iron and lead in the furnace. They are the dross of silver. 19 Therefore thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because you have all become dross, therefore, behold, I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem. 20 As they gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the middle of the furnace, to blow the fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in my anger and in my wrath, and I will lay you there, and melt you. 21 Yes, I will gather you, and blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and you shall be melted in its midst. 22 '"As silver is melted in the furnace, you will be melted in the midst of her. You will know that I, the LORD, have poured out my wrath on you."' 23 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

Because you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.'” 21 But the people conspired against him, and at the direct orders of the king they stoned him to death in the courtyard of the LORD's temple.

I closed the deep over it and held back its rivers. Its many waters were stopped up, and I made Lebanon mourn for it. All the trees of the field wilted away on account of it. 16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall when I cast him down to Sheol with those who descend into the pit. And all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether p 17 They also went down with him into Sheol, to the slain of the sword, even his arm, who dwelt in his shadow in the midst of the nations. 18 "'Which of the trees of Eden are you equal to in glory and greatness?
