He said: »Say the same thing to Esau when you find him. ²⁰ And say moreover, Behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; perhaps he will accept me. ²¹ So the gift passed on before him, but he himself spent that night in the camp.

¹⁰ And Jacob said, "No, please, if I have found favor in your eyes, you must take my gift from my hand, for then I have seen your face which is like seeing the face of God, and you have received me.

⁶ Many will seek the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.

¹⁴ A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.

¹⁰ How beautiful is your love, my sister, my bride. How much better is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than all kinds of spices.

¹⁴ spikenard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree; myrrh and aloes, with all the best spices,
