¹ Adam had sexual intercourse with his wife Eve. She became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said: "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man." ² Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. ³ As time went by, Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD. ⁴ But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn (firstlings) of his flock. the LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering. ⁵ but to Cain and to his offering he did not look with favor. And Cain became very angry, and his face fell. ⁶ the LORD said to Cain: "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? ⁷ "If you do what is right, will not your attitude improve? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door. It desires to have you, but you must master it." ⁸ Then Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out into the field." And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him. ⁹ the LORD asked Cain: "Where is your brother Abel?" "I do not know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?" ¹⁰ the LORD said: "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood (life) cries out to me from the ground. ¹¹ "Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. ¹² "When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer (vagabond) on the earth." ¹³ Cain said to the LORD: "My punishment is more than I can bear. ¹⁴ "You are driving me from the land today. I will be hidden from your presence. I will be a restless (homeless) wanderer on the earth. And whoever finds me will kill me." ¹⁵ the LORD replied to him: "If anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. ¹⁶ Cain went out from the LORD's presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden. ¹⁷ Cain had intercourse with his wife. She became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch. Later Cain built a city. He named it after his son Enoch. ¹⁸ To Enoch was born Irad, and Irad was the father of Mehujael, and Mehujael was the father of Methushael, and Methushael was the father of Lamech. ¹⁹ Lamech married two women, one named Adah and the other Zillah. ²⁰ Adah gave birth to Jabal; he was the father of those who live in tents and raise livestock. ²¹ His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play the harp and flute. ²² Zillah also had a son, Tubal-Cain, who forged all kinds of tools out of copper and iron. Tubal-Cain's sister was Naamah. ²³ Lamech said to his wives: "Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me. ²⁴ "If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times." ²⁵ Adam had intercourse with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth. She said: "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him." ²⁶ Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on (proclaim) the name of the LORD.

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise your head and you will bruise his heel.

²⁵ Adam had intercourse with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth. She said: "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him."

²⁹ He named him Noah. He said: "He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed."

¹⁷ "So kill all the Midianite boys and every Midianite woman who has gone to bed with a man.

¹² and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous.

²³ Therefore the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.

²⁵ Adam had intercourse with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth. She said: "God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him." ²⁶ Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time men began to call on (proclaim) the name of the LORD.

²⁰ Noah, a man of the soil, planted a vineyard.

²⁹ Jacob said to him, “You know how I have served you, and how your livestock have fared with me. ³⁰ "The little that you had before I came has grown to a large amount. the LORD has blessed you wherever I have been. When may I do something for my own family?" ³¹ And he said, "What shall I give you?" And Jacob said, "Do not give me anything. If you will do this thing for me, I will again feed your flocks and keep them.

¹³ And Israel said to Joseph, Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come and I will send you to them. And he said to him, Here I am.

³² And the men are shepherds, for they are men of livestock, and they have brought their flocks and their cattle and all that they have.' ³³ If then Pharaoh calls you, and says to you, What is your occupation? ³⁴ Then you must say, 'You servants are men of livestock from our childhood until now, both we and also our ancestors,' so that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is a detestable thing to Egyptians."

³ Pharaoh said to his brothers, "What is your occupation?" They said to Pharaoh, "Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers."

¹ ¶ Now as Moses shepherded the sheep of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, he led the flock to the backside of the desert and came to Horeb, the mountain of God.

⁷⁰ He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ From following the suckling-ewes, he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. ⁷² David shepherded them with a devoted heart, and led them with skillful hands.

³ Children are an inheritance from the LORD. They are a blessing from him.

¹⁵ But the LORD took me from tending the flock and the LORD kept saying to me, 'Go, prophesy to my people Israel.'

⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, all of it will be charged to this generation.

⁴⁴ You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; for every one who does not work righteousness is not a child of God, nor is he who does not love his brother.

¹⁵ Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

¹ "'When anyone offers a grain offering to the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil on it, and put frankincense on it. ² He shall bring it to Aaron's sons, the priests; and he shall take his handful of its fine flour, and of its oil, with all its frankincense; and the priest shall burn its memorial on the altar, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD. ³ The remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and to his sons—it is a most holy thing from the offerings made by fire for the LORD. ⁴ "'If your grain offering has been baked in an oven, it must be rings of unleavened bread made of flour mixed with olive oil or wafers of unleavened bread brushed with oil. ⁵ "'If your grain offering is prepared in a frying pan, it, too, will be unleavened bread made of flour mixed with oil. ⁶ break it into pieces and pour out oil on it; it is a grain offering. ⁷ "'When your grain offering is prepared in a skillet, it will be made of flour with oil. ⁸ And you are to give the meal offering made of these things to the Lord, and let the priest take it to the altar. ⁹ The priest shall take from the meal offering its memorial, and shall burn it on the altar, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD. ¹⁰ And the remainder of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and to his sons—it is a most holy thing from the offerings made by fire for the LORD. ¹¹ "'Every grain offering you bring to the LORD must be made without yeast. Do not use yeast or honey in food offered to the LORD.

¹² All the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and their best grain that they have given to the LORD, I have given them to you.

⁷ But after a while, the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

⁶ But in all this, I was not at Jerusalem; for in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I went to the king; and after some days I asked leave of the king,

¹⁷ The sun went down and it was dark. A smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

¹² you shall dedicate to the LORD everything that first opens the womb. All the firstborn males of your livestock belong to the LORD.

¹⁶ The priest shall burn them on the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma; all the fat is the LORD's. ¹⁷ This is a lasting statute for your generations in all your dwellings: you must not eat any fat or any blood.'"

²⁴ Fire came out from before the LORD, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

³⁵ And fire came forth from the LORD and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered the incense.

¹⁷ "But you shall not redeem the firstborn of a cow, or the firstborn of a sheep, or the firstborn of a goat. They are holy. You shall sprinkle their blood on the altar, and shall burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma to the LORD.

²¹ Then the angel of the LORD reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand, and he touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of the LORD went from his sight.

²⁴ You call on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the LORD, and the god who answers by fire, he is God." All the people answered, "It is well said."

³⁸ And the fire of the LORD fell and burned up the burnt sacrifice and the wood, and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

²⁶ David built an altar to the LORD there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the LORD; and he answered him from the sky by fire on the altar of burnt offering.

¹ And when Solomon finished praying, then fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the house.

³ May He remember all your sacrifices, and accept your whole burnt offerings. Pause.

⁹ Honor the LORD with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:

²² In fact, under the law almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of the blood there is no forgiveness.

⁴ By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous when God gave approval to his gifts. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead.

¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot. ²⁰ He was known before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in the last times for your sake.

⁸ And all who dwell on the earth wilt worship him, every one whose name hath not been written in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

² And Jacob saw that Laban's feeling for him was no longer what it had been before.

⁵ He said to them: "I have seen that your father's attitude toward me is not as friendly as before. The God of my father has been with me.

¹⁵ Moses was very angry, and said to the LORD, "Do not respect their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them."

² For vexation kills the fool, and envy slays the simple one.

¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'

²⁸ The older son became angry and refused to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. ²⁹ But he answered his father, ‘Look, all these years I have served you and never disobeyed a commandment of yours. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. ³⁰ But when this son of yours returns from squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you kill the fatted calf for him!’

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and they blasphemously contradicted what Paul was saying.

¹¹ David was angry because the LORD's wrath had broken out against Uzzah. To this day that place is called Perez Uzzah. (Outbreak against Uzzah) ¹² David was afraid of God that day and asked: "How can I ever bring the Ark of God to me?" ¹³ He did not take the Ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

¹⁸ "Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

⁵ the LORD says: "What bad thing (injustice) did your fathers find in me that they went so far away from me? They followed worthless idols and became worthless (lead astray) themselves.

³¹ Generation, consider the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness to Israel? Or a land of thick darkness? Why do my people say, 'We have broken loose. We will come to you no more?'

³ My people, what have I done to you? How have I burdened you? Answer me! ⁴ "I brought you out of the land of Egypt. I redeemed you out of the house of bondage. I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam. ⁵ My people, remember, I pray, what Balak, king of Moab, counseled, and what Balaam, son of Beor, answered him, from Shittim unto Gilgal, that you may know the righteousness of the LORD."

³¹ 'Child,' the father answered, 'you are always with me, and everything that I have is yours. ³² But it was fitting to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”

¹ Now when Jesus knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus was making and baptizing more disciples than John ² (although it was not Jesus who baptized, but His disciples), ³ he left Judea and went back again to Galilee. ⁴ Now he had to go through Samaria.

⁸ (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) ⁹ The Samaritan woman said, "What? You are a Jew, and you ask me for a drink — me, a Samaritan!" (Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) ¹⁰ Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." ¹¹ “Sir,” the woman replied, “You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where then will You get this living water?

¹⁶ He said to the woman: "I will greatly increase your pains in childbirth; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

²¹ The angel said to him: »All right, I will grant you this request too. I will not destroy the city you are talking about.

²³ "But if you will not do so, look, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out.

²³ Araunah gave this to the king and said: "May the LORD your God accept you."

²⁸ And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth-gilead; and the Arameans wounded Joram.

⁴ as when I was in the days of my prime, when God's confiding was over my house,

⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

⁵ It is not good to be partial to the wicked, or to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is hateful, how much more when he brings it with an evil intent!

¹² Though a sinner commits crimes a hundred times, and lives long, yet surely I know that it will be better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him. ¹³ but not good with the wicked: he prolongs not his days as a shadow; because he awes not at the face of Elohim.

²⁰ "What purpose does frankincense come to me from Sheba and the sweet cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable and your sacrifices are not pleasing to me."

⁸ When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? And when you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Offer that to your governor would he be pleased with you or receive you favorably?" asks the LORD of the Heavenly Armies.

¹⁰ "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors and not light useless fires on the altar! I'm not pleased with you," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "and I'll accept no offerings from you.

¹³ "And you say 'What a burden!' and sniff contemptuously at it," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, "when you present maimed, crippled, and diseased animals, and when you bring the offering. Should I accept this from your hand?" asks the LORD.

³⁵ but welcomes those from every nation who fear Him and do what is right.

⁶ For he will render to everyone according to what he has done, ⁷ To those who by perseverance in doing good seek glory, honor, and immortality, He will give eternal life. ⁸ But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger. ⁹ There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek; ¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.

¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey {— } either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

⁸ But sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from the Law, sin is dead. ⁹ Once I was alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.

¹ Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

¹⁸ For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

¹⁶ to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an acceptable offering to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

⁶ to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One.

⁴ But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them learn first to demonstrate piety in their own household by repaying their parents, for this is pleasing to God.

¹⁵ Then when passion has conceived it gives birth to sin, and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death.

⁵ you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

²⁶ Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us." The king said to him, "Why should he go with you?" ²⁷ But Abessalom pressed him, so he sent with him Amnon, and all the king's sons. ²⁸ Absalom commanded his servants saying, Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon', then kill him. Don't be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!

⁶ Your servant had two sons, and they both fought in the open field, and there was no one to part them. One struck the other and killed him.

⁹ Joab said to Amasa, "Is it well with you, my brother?" Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. ¹⁰ Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Joab's left hand. Joab stabbed him in the stomach. Then he stabbed him in his intestines and they poured out on the ground. He died without being stabbed again. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.

² Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come! Let’s meet together in the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to harm me.

¹⁵ then you will lift up your face without shame. You will stand firm without fear.

³ Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? ⁴ He that has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. ⁵ He shall receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God his Savior. ⁶ This is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face, O God of Jacob. Selah.

³ The words of his mouth are wickedness and deceit. He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

¹⁹ If only you, God, would kill the wicked. Get away from me, you bloodthirsty men!

²⁴ A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart. ²⁵ When his speech is charming, do not believe him; for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

⁶ For the son dishonors the father; the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man's enemies are the men of his own household.

³⁵ And so upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

⁴⁸ But Jesus asked him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"

²⁴ to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

¹² and not be like Cain who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brother's righteous. ¹³ Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death. ¹⁵ Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

¹¹ Woe to them! They have traveled the path of Cain; they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam; they have perished in Korah’s rebellion.

⁹ But the LORD God called to the man: "Where are you?" ¹⁰ He (Adam) answered: "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid." ¹¹ And he said: "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"

³² They took the robe to their father and said: "We found this. Does it belong to your son?"

¹³ Yet you say, What does El know? Can He judge through murkiness? ¹⁴ "'Thick clouds enwrap him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the dome of the heavens.'"

¹² For he who avenges blood remembers them. He doesn’t forget the cry of the afflicted.

¹³ Why does the wicked person condemn God and say in his heart, God won't call me into account? ¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

¹³ He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

⁴ Did it not belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? How could you conceive such a deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God!” ⁵ On hearing these words, Ananias fell down and died. And great fear came over all who heard what had happened. ⁶ Then the young men stepped forward, wrapped up his body, and carried him out and buried him. ⁷ About three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened; ⁸ “Tell me,” said Peter, “is this the price you and your husband got for the land?” “Yes,” she answered, “that is the price.” ⁹ Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too."

¹³ The LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

⁵ "I will require your lifeblood as an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. I will demand an accounting from each man for the life of his fellow man.

²⁰ And the LORD said, "The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is exceeding grievous.

⁷ The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

³³ “'So you shall not pollute the land where you live; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.

¹⁹ Joshua said to Achan: "My son, give glory to the LORD God of Israel and confess to him. Tell me now what you have done. Do not hide it from me."

²⁶ '"Since I saw the blood of Naboth and the blood of his children yesterday," declares the LORD, "I will requite it for you in this tract of land," declares the LORD.' So then lift him out and throw him on the tract of land according to the word of the LORD."

¹⁸ "Earth, do not cover my blood. Let my cry have no place to rest.

¹² From the city, dying men groan aloud, and the wounded cries out for help, but God charges no one with wrong.

³⁸ If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten its yield without payment, and caused the death of its owners;

²¹ These things you have done, and I have kept silence; you thought that I was like yourself, but I will rebuke you, and set in order before your eyes.

¹⁴ He will redeem their soul from oppression and violence; And precious will their blood be in his sight:

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah is the plantation of his delight. And he waited for justice, but look! Bloodshed! For righteousness, but look! A cry of distress!

³ Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and withhold some of the proceeds from the land?

⁹ Peter said to her, "How could both of you agree in such a way to test the Spirit of the Lord? Listen! The feet of the men who buried your husband are at the door; they will carry you out, too."

⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.

⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained; ¹⁰ And they cried out in a loud voice, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?”

¹⁴ So the LORD God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this you are cursed above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.

¹⁴ "You are driving me from the land today. I will be hidden from your presence. I will be a restless (homeless) wanderer on the earth. And whoever finds me will kill me."

¹⁶ Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen! ¹⁷ "'Cursed is he who moves his neighbor's boundary mark. All the people will say: Amen. ¹⁸ 'Cursed is he who leads the blind astray on the road.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ¹⁹ 'Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁰ 'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he dishonors his father's bed.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²¹ 'Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with any animal. "Then all the people will respond by saying, 'Amen!' ²² 'Cursed be the one who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²³ Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁴ Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor secretly! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁵ 'Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁶ 'Cursed is he who doesn't uphold the words of this law by doing them.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'”

¹⁵ "But if you don't obey the LORD your God and faithfully carry out all his commands and statutes that I'm giving you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overwhelm you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. ¹⁸ "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. ¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. ²⁰ the LORD will send on you cursing, confusion and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings by which you have forsaken Him.

¹⁹ because when such a person hears the words of this oath, he will bless himself and say: 'I will have a peaceful life, even though I'm determined to be stubborn.' By doing this he will be sweeping away both watered and parched ground alike.' ²⁰ the LORD will never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and / His jealousy will burn against that man. Every curse which is written in this book will rest on him. the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven. ²¹ The LORD will set him apart from all the tribes of Israel for destruction, according to the curses of the covenant that were written in this book of the Law."

³⁸ If my land cries out against me, and its furrows weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten its yield without payment, and caused the death of its owners; ⁴⁰ let thorns come forth instead of wheat, and weeds instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

²¹ Behold! the LORD is coming out of his dwelling to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose (reveal) the bloodshed upon her. She will conceal her slain no longer.

¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

¹⁶ But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed from its mouth.

¹⁷ He said to Adam: "Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants from the fields.

²⁰ and your strength will be spent in vain, for your land will not yield its increase, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit.

³⁶ "'As for those of you who are left, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies: and the sound of a driven leaf will put them to flight; and they shall flee, as one flees from the sword; and they will fall when no one pursues.

²³ The sky above your head will become bronze while the ground beneath you will become iron. ²⁴ the LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down on you from the sky, until you are destroyed.

⁶⁵ Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit. ⁶⁶ You'll cling to life, being fearful by both night and day, with no assurance of survival.

¹⁰ may his children be wandering beggars, let them be sought from their ruins.

³ The next day Pashur released Jeremiah from the stocks, and Jeremiah said to him, "The LORD has not named you Pashur, but rather Magor-missabib. ⁴ For the LORD says, 'Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes will see it. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will carry them captive to Babylon, and will kill them with the sword.

¹⁷ "My God will reject them, because they did not obey him, and they will become wanderers among the nations."

²⁰ For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but by the will of him who subjected it in hope;

²² "He despairs of escaping the darkness; he is marked for the sword.

⁹ Men were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory.

¹¹ and cursed the God of heaven because of their sufferings and sores, but they would not repent of what they had done.

²¹ Huge hailstones, about a hundred pounds each, fell from heaven upon men. And men cursed God for the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

¹⁵ the LORD replied to him: "If anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him. ¹⁶ Cain went out from the LORD's presence, and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

⁵ "I will require your lifeblood as an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. I will demand an accounting from each man for the life of his fellow man. ⁶ Whoever sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed. For in the image of God he made man.

¹⁷ I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you.

¹² The Israelites said to Moses: Now we are going to die! We will perish! We are all lost! ¹³ Anyone who comes near the LORD’s tent will die! Are we all going to die?

¹⁹ the avenger of blood, he shall put the murderer to death; when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death.

²¹ or in hostility struck him with his hand, so that he died, he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.

²⁷ and the avenger of blood find him outside the border of his city of refuge and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he will not be guilty of blood,

⁷ Behold, the whole family has risen against your servant, and they say, 'Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may kill him for the life of his brother whom he killed, and so destroy the heir also.' ²⁰ "All his days the wicked man suffers torment and the ruthless through all the years stored up for him. ²¹ "Terrifying sounds fill his ears. When all seems well, marauders attack him. ²² "He despairs of escaping the darkness; he is marked for the sword. ²³ "He wanders about as food for vultures and he knows the day of darkness is at hand. ²⁴ "Distress and anguish fill him with terror. They overwhelm him, like a king poised to attack.

¹⁴ "They say to God: 'Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.' ¹⁵ "Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what do we gain if we pray to him?

¹¹ Do not cast me from your presence; do not take your Holy Spirit from me. ¹² Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and with a willing spirit sustain me. ¹³ Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. ¹⁴ Rescue me from blood guilt, O God, the God of my deliverance! My tongue shall exult over your righteousness.

¹² May no one extend gracious love to him, or show favor to his fatherless children.

⁷ Answer me quickly, O LORD for my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will become like those who go down to the pit.

³² The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

¹ The wicked flee when no one pursues; but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

²² and they will look to the earth; and behold, trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they shall be driven into thick darkness.

³ For because of the anger of the LORD this happened in Jerusalem and Judah until his casting them from his presence. And Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

³ Therefore, they will be like the morning cloud, and like the dew of early morning going away, like chaff swirling from the threshing floor, or like smoke from a window.

⁴¹ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁴⁶ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

⁹ who will be punished with everlasting destruction proceeding from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power,

²⁴ "If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times."

¹⁸ "'If you still will not listen to me, I will discipline you seven times for your sins.

²¹ If you walk contrary to me, and will not hearken to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you for your sins.

²⁴ I also will walk contrary to you, and will strike you seven times for your sins.

²⁸ then I will go against you in hostile anger, and also I myself will discipline you seven times for your sins.

⁷ And moreover the word of the LORD came against Baasha by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger with the work of his hands in being like the house of Jeroboam and because he killed him.

¹¹ Don't kill them! Otherwise, my people may forget. By your power make them stumble around; bring them down low, Lord, our Shield.

¹² Pay back our neighbors seven times the reproach with which they reproached you, LORD.

³¹ but if he is found, he must repay seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.

⁴ and said to him, Go through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark on the foreheads of the men that groan and that grieve for all the iniquities that are done in the midst of them.

⁶ Slay utterly old man and youth, and virgin, and infants, and women: but go ye not nigh any on whom is the mark: begin at my sanctuary. So they began with the elder men who were within in the house.

⁴ And the LORD said to him, "Name him Jezreel; because in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel.

⁵² “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him. “For all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

⁹ The third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice: "If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

¹¹ The smoke from their torture goes up forever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image or for anyone who receives the mark of its name."

⁸ The man and his wife heard the sound (voice) of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. They hid from the LORD, among the trees of the garden.

¹⁸ The people heard the thunder and the trumpet blast. They saw the lightning and the smoking mountain. They trembled with fear and stood at a distance.

²³ But the LORD was merciful unto them, and had compassion on them, and looked upon them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and did not desire to destroy them or to cast them from his presence as yet.

²⁰ because through the LORD's anger these things happened to Jerusalem and Judah until he threw them from his presence. Zedekiah then rebelled against the king of Babylon,

¹² The LORD said to Satan, "Look, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself do not put forth your hand." So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

⁷ So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head.

¹⁷ "He will not look upon the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream.

¹¹ But let all who take refuge in you rejoice. Let them ever sing for joy because you defend them. Let those who love your name exult in you.

² As smoke is driven away, You drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish in the presence of God.

³⁹ therefore behold, I will utterly forget you, and I will cast you off, far from my face, and the city that I gave to you and to your fathers.

²⁰ For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”

²⁶ Then you will say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.'

³ Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.

⁹ For they themselves report what kind of welcome you gave us, and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God

¹⁸ When Jared had lived 162 years, he fathered Enoch.

²² After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years and had other sons and daughters.

⁴ Then they said: "Let us build ourselves a city, with a lofty tower that reaches into space, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."

¹⁸ Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the king's dale; for he said, "I have no son to keep my name in memory." He called the pillar after his own name; and it is called Absalom's monument, to this day.

¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.

⁴ I made me great works, I built me houses, and planted vineyards, ⁵ I made for myself gardens and parks, and I planted all sorts of fruit trees in them. ⁶ I made water pools from which to water the young trees. ⁷ I acquired male and female servants, and they gave birth to sons and daughters in my house. I had great wealth of herds and flocks, more than all who were in Jerusalem before me. ⁸ I also gathered silver and gold to myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got men singers and women singers for myself, and the delights of the sons of men, a wife and very many wives. ⁹ And I became great and increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem; also my wisdom stayed with me. ¹⁰ I neither withheld anything from my eyes that they desired, nor did I deprive any pleasure from my heart. My heart rejoiced in all my toil, for this was my reward from all my toil. ¹¹ Yet when I faced all my deeds that my hands had done, And the toil that I had toiled in doing them, Behold, the whole was vanity and a grazing on wind, And there was nothing of advantage under the sun."

³⁰ The king spoke: "Is this not great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?"

²⁸ It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. ²⁹ But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

²¹ When Enoch lived sixty-five years, he became the father of Methuselah.

² Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah, daughter of Elon, the Hittite, and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite,

¹⁸ the LORD God said: "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

²⁴ This is the reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife. They will become one flesh.

⁴ "Have not you read," replied Jesus, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' ⁵ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? ⁶ So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

⁸ He said to them, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives, on account of the hardness of your hearts, but it was not so from the beginning.

² Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.

²¹ His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all who play the harp and flute.

²⁷ The boys grew. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents.

⁵⁰ These were the descendants of Caleb. The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah: Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim, ⁵¹ Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth Gader. ⁵² The descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim were: Haroeh, half the Manahathites,

⁴ Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah. These were the descendants of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah and father of Bethlehem. ⁵ Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

⁹ and have built no houses to live in. We don't have vineyards, fields, or seed. ¹⁰ We have lived in tents. We have obeyed and have done everything that our ancestor Jonadab commanded us.

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. ¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

⁹ By faith he dwelt in the promised land as a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.

²⁷ Why did you flee secretly, and deceive me, and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with mirth and with songs, with tambourine and with harp;

¹² They sing to the tambourine and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the flute.

¹² And the harp and the viol, the tambourine and flutes and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, nor consider the work of his hands.

⁵ "You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David you improvise on musical instruments.

³ This is the offering that you shall accept from them: gold, silver, and bronze;

²² Gold, silver, brass, iron, tin and lead,

⁹ a land without scarcity. You'll eat food in it and lack nothing. It's a land where its rocks are iron and you can dig copper from its mountains."

²⁵ May your shoe latches be iron and bronze, and your days as your strength.

⁷ Send me now therefore a man skillful to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and that has skill to engrave with the skillful men that are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father did provide.

¹³ You shall not murder.

¹⁸ "'Do not seek revenge. Never hold a grudge against any of your people. Instead, love your neighbor as you love yourself. I am the LORD.

¹⁸ Then he uttered his oracle, and said, "Stand up, Balak, and hear; listen to me, son of Zippor!

⁷ When they told Jotham he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted to them, Listen to me, you men of Shechem, so that God will listen to you.

¹⁵ the LORD replied to him: "If anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.

²² Jesus answered, “I tell you, not just seven times, but seventy-seven times!

¹ Adam had sexual intercourse with his wife Eve. She became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said: "With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man." ² Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. ³ As time went by, Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.

⁸ Then Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let us go out into the field." And when they were in the field, Cain rose up against his brother Abel and killed him.

¹⁰ the LORD said: "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood (life) cries out to me from the ground. ¹¹ "Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand.

³ When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. ⁴ After Seth was born, Adam lived eight hundred years and had other sons and daughters.

¹ Adam, Seth, Enosh,

³⁸ the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

⁸ From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent. Bethel was on the west and Ai on the east. He built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD.

²⁵ He built an altar there, and called on the name of the LORD, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac's servants dug a well.

¹⁷ You have declared today that the LORD is your God, and that you would walk in his ways, keep his statutes, his commandments, and his ordinances, and listen to his voice. ¹⁸ And the LORD has declared you today to be for him as a people, a treasured possession, as he promised to you, and that you are to observe all his commandments,

¹⁷ I will bring you a thanksgiving offering and call on the name of the LORD!

⁵ "'"One person will say: "I belong to the LORD." Another person will call himself by the name of Jacob. Still another will write on his hand: "the LORD's." And he will take the name Israel.'

¹ Hear this, house of Jacob, who are called by the name of Israel and came out from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD, and invoke the God of Israel, but not in truth and not in righteousness.

¹⁹ We are yours: you never bore rule over them; they were not called by your name.

¹⁶ In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell safely. This is the name by which she will be called: the LORD our righteousness.”

³² And it will happen—everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be rescued, because on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the LORD said, and among the survivors whom the LORD is calling.

⁹ For then I will purify the lips of the peoples, that they may all call on the name of the LORD, to serve him shoulder to shoulder.

²¹ And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

²⁶ and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year they met with the church and taught great numbers of people; and the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

¹³ for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

² To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be holy, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours:

¹⁴ For this reason I kneel before the Father ¹⁵ from whom the whole family in Heaven and on earth derives its name,
