¹ And the Lord appeared unto him in the grove of Mamre; while he was sitting at the door of the tent in the heat of the day. ² And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing near him. And he saw them and ran from the doorway of the tent to meet them. And he bowed down to the ground. ³ And he said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your eyes do not pass by your servant. ⁴ Let a little water be brought and wash your feet, and rest under the tree. ⁵ I will get a morsel of bread so you can refresh your heart. After that you may go your way, now that you have come to your servant." They said, "Very well, do as you have said." ⁶ Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah, and said, “Quickly prepare three seahs of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes.” ⁷ Abraham ran to the herd, and fetched a tender and good calf, and gave it to the servant. He hurried to dress it. ⁸ And he took butter and milk and the calf which he had dressed and set it before them, and they ate, and be stood by them under the tree. ⁹ They asked him, “Where is Sarah, your wife?” He said, “There, in the tent.” ¹⁰ And he said, "I will certainly return to you ⌊in the spring⌋, and look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the doorway of the tent, and which was behind him. ¹¹ Abraham and Sarah were old, well advanced in age. Sarah had passed the age of childbearing. ¹² So Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?" ¹³ The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round and Sarah will have a son. ¹⁵ Sarah denied saying: "I did not laugh!" She was afraid. He said: "But you did laugh!" ¹⁶ Then the men set out from there, and they looked down upon Sodom. And Abraham went with them to send them on their way. ¹⁷ And the Lord said: Can I hide from Abraham what I am about to do: ¹⁸ Abraham will surely become a great and strong nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed on account of him. ¹⁹ For I know him that he will command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the LORD, to do after right and conscience, that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that he hath promised him." ²⁰ And the LORD said, "The cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and their sin is exceeding grievous. ²¹ I will go down now, and see whether their deeds are as bad as the reports which have come to me. If not, I will know. ²² And the men turned thence, and went towards Sodom; and Abraham remained yet standing before the LORD. ²³ And Abraham drew near to Yahweh and said, "Will you also sweep away the righteous with the wicked? ²⁴ What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it? ²⁵ Far be it from you to do such a thing as this, to kill the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous would be as the wicked! Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do justice?" ²⁶ the LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.” ²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, Now I have taken upon me to speak to my Lord, I who am but dust and ashes! ²⁸ "Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous. Would you destroy the entire city for lack of five?" So He (God) said: "If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it." ²⁹ And once again he spoke to him and said, "What if forty are found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it on account of the forty." ³⁰ And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if thirty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." ³¹ He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake." ³² He said, Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there? He said, I will not destroy it for the ten's sake. ³³ And when the LORD had finished speaking to Abraham, then Abraham returned to his place.

⁷ And the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

¹⁸ Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron. He built an altar to the LORD there.

¹³ Then one who escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew. And he was living at the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner. They were allies with Abram.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

¹ Abram was ninety-nine years old. the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless. ² "I will establish my covenant between us. I will greatly increase your numbers." ³ Abram fell on his face and God said to him:

²² When he finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him.

² The LORD appeared to him, and said, "Do not go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

³ Jacob said to Joseph, God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me,

¹ Moses answered, "But, look, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, 'The LORD has not appeared to you.'"

⁷ That night, God appeared to Solomon and said to him, “Ask for what you want me to give you.”

² And Stephen declared: “Brothers and fathers, listen to me! The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

¹⁶ Then the men set out from there, and they looked down upon Sodom. And Abraham went with them to send them on their way.

²² And the men turned thence, and went towards Sodom; and Abraham remained yet standing before the LORD.

¹ And the two angels came to Sodom in the evening. And Lot was sitting in the gateway of Sodom. Then Lot saw them and stood up to meet them. And he bowed down with his face to the ground.

⁷ And Abraham rose up and bowed to the people of the land, to the Hittites.

²⁴ And Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him till the morning.

³ Jacob went ahead of them. He bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother. ⁴ But Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell upon his neck and kissed him, and they wept. ⁵ Then Esau lifted up his eyes and saw the women and the children and said, "Who are these with you?" And he said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant." ⁶ And the maidservants and their children drew near and bowed down. ⁷ And Leah also and her children came near, and bowed down; and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed down.

²⁶ And when Joseph came into the house they brought the gift that was in their hand into the house to him, and they bowed down before him to the ground.

²⁸ They answered: "Your servant our father is still alive and well." Again they bowed down to Joseph.

¹⁴ Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s house, and he was still there. They fell on the ground before him.

¹³ Now when Joshua was near Jericho, lifting up his eyes he saw a man in front of him, with his sword uncovered in his hand: and Joshua went up to him and said, Are you for us or against us?

³ The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, Look now, you are barren and childless but you will conceive and bear a son.

⁶ Then the woman told her husband: »A man of God came to me. He looked as frightening as the angel of God. I did not ask him where he came from, and he did not tell me his name. ⁷ And he said to me, 'Look, you will conceive and bear a son, so then, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, for the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth until the day of his death.'" ⁸ Then Manoah prayed to the LORD: "Please, the LORD, let the man of God that you sent come back to teach us what we must do with the boy when he is born." ⁹ God did what Manoah asked. His angel came back to the woman while she was in the field. Her husband Manoah was not with her, ¹⁰ The woman quickly ran and told her husband, and said to him, The man has appeared to me, who came to me that day. ¹¹ Manoah arose and followed his wife, and came to the man, and said to him, “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” He said, “I am.”

¹⁰ Then she bowed down on her face to the earth, and said to him: "Why have I found favor in your eyes? For you give me attention and I am a foreigner."

¹⁵ And when the sons of the prophets across in Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests upon Elisha! And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

¹³ Share with the saints who are in need. Practice hospitality.

² Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for, by so doing, some have entertained angels, without knowing them.

⁹ Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

⁵ And I have oxen and donkeys, flocks and men-servants and maid-servants. And I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.

² And he said, "Behold, my lords, please turn aside into the house of your servant and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you can rise early and go on your way." And they said, "No, but we will spend the night in the square."

³² The man went into the house. Laban unloaded the camels and gave them straw and fodder. Then he brought water for Abraham’s servant and his men to wash their feet.

²⁴ The servant took them into Joseph's house. He gave them water to wash their feet. He also tended their donkeys.

⁴¹ She got up and bowed down with her face to the ground and said, "Here is your female servant, as a slave to wash the feet of my lord's servants."

⁴⁴ And turning toward the woman, he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You did not give me water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.

⁵ After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel that was around Him. ⁶ Then he came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?" ⁷ Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” ⁸ Peter said to Him, You shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me. ⁹ “Then, Lord,” Simon Peter replied, “not only my feet, but my hands and my head as well!” ¹⁰ Jesus said to him, "He who has bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not every one of you." ¹¹ For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said 'You are not all clean.' ¹² When he had washed their feet, he put on his robes and sat down; and he said to them, Do you know what I have done to you? ¹³ You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right: that is what I am. ¹⁴ So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. ¹⁵ I have set you an example so that you should do as I have done for you.

¹⁰ and well known for good deeds such as bringing up children, entertaining strangers, washing the feet of the saints, imparting relief to the afflicted, and devoting herself to every good work.

⁸ Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man. I pray you, let me bring them out to you, and you do to them as you see fit. But do nothing to these men, for this is why they came under the shadow of my roof.

¹⁰ And Jacob said, "No, please, if I have found favor in your eyes, you must take my gift from my hand, for then I have seen your face which is like seeing the face of God, and you have received me.

¹⁸ Please do not go away, until I come to you, and bring out my present, and lay it before you." He said, "I will wait until you come back."

¹⁵ And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Please stay, and let us prepare a young goat for you."

⁵ On the fourth day they arose early in the morning, and he got ready to depart, and the girl's father said to his son-in-law, Strengthen yourself with something to eat and then go on your way.

¹⁵ and wine that gladdens the heart of man and oil to make his face to shine and bread that strengthens man's heart.

¹ For look, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah supply and support, the whole supply of bread, and the whole supply of water;

¹¹ Give us today our daily bread;

⁸ But the noble thinks noble things; and by noble things he shall stand.

³³ He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed into three measures of flour, until all of it was leavened.”

³⁸ As they continued their journey, Jesus came to a village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him to her house. ³⁹ She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to His message. ⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!”

¹⁵ And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

¹³ For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.

³ But he urged them strongly, and they turned aside with him and came into his house. And he made a meal for them and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

¹⁵ And Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "Please stay, and let us prepare a young goat for you." ¹⁶ The angel of the LORD said to Manoah, Though you detain me, I won't eat your food, and if you prepare a burnt offering, you must offer it to the LORD. Manoah didn't know that he was the angel of the LORD.

⁴ lying on ivory beds, stretching out on your couches, eating lambs from the flock, and fattened calves from the stall,

¹⁴ "Cursed is the one who cheats, who has in his flock a male and vows it, but instead sacrifices a blemished one to the Lord! For I am a great king," says the LORD of hosts, "and my name is awesome among the nations."

⁴ Again, he sent other servants and said, ‘Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared my dinner. My oxen and fatlings have been killed, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding banquet.’

²³ Bring the fatted calf and kill it. Let us feast and celebrate.

²⁷ "'Your brother is come,' he replied, 'and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has him safe and sound.'

³⁰ But when this son of yours returns from squandering your wealth with prostitutes, you kill the fatted calf for him!’

¹⁴ butter from cows, and milk from sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the sons of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat. And you drank the blood of the grape.

²⁵ He asked for water, and she gave milk; in a drinking bowl for nobles, she brought curds.

⁴⁴ And at that time men were appointed over the chambers of the treasures for the heave-offerings, for the first-fruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them, out of the fields of the cities, the portions assigned by the law for the priests and the Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests, and over the Levites that waited.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.

⁸ But will he not say to him, 'Prepare my supper, clothe yourself properly, and serve me, while I eat and drink, and afterward you can eat and drink'?

³⁰ When he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them.

⁴³ and he took it and ate it in their presence.

² So they hosted a dinner for Jesus there. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with Him.

⁴¹ not by all the people, but by the witnesses God had chosen beforehand, by us who ate and drank with Him after He rose from the dead.

²⁰ Lo, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and sup with him, and he with me.

⁹ the LORD asked Cain: "Where is your brother Abel?" "I do not know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

⁶⁷ And Isaac brought her into the tent of his mother Sarah. And he took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after his mother.

³³ And Laban went into Jacobs tent, and into Leahs tent, and into the tent of the two maid-servants; but he found them not. And he went out of Leahs tent, and entered into Rachels tent.

⁵ to be chaste and holy, and to take good care of their households, and to be obedient to their husbands; so that no one may reproach the word of God.

¹⁰ "I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count."

¹⁶ "I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her."

¹⁹ God replied: "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son! You will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as a long lasting covenant for his descendants after him.

²¹ "But my covenant I will establish with Isaac. Sarah will bear him to you by this time next year."

¹³ The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the set time I will return to you, when the season comes round and Sarah will have a son.

² Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age. It was at the very time God had promised him.

¹⁵ The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time. ¹⁶ And he said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only child,

³ The angel of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, Look now, you are barren and childless but you will conceive and bear a son. ⁴ And now, watch now, and drink not wine and strong drink, and thou shalt not eat any thing unclean: ⁵ because you will conceive and bear a son. No razor will touch his head, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from birth. And it is he who will begin to deliver Israel from the hand of the Philistines."

¹⁶ Elisha said to her: "By this time next year you will hold a son in your arms." "Please do not lie to me. You are a man of God!" She said. ¹⁷ But the woman did conceive and did bear a son at that very same time the next year, just as Elisha had told her.

¹³ But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall give him the name John.

⁸ So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring. ⁹ For this is what the promise specified: “At the appointed time I will return, and Sarah will have a son.”

²³ His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born because of the promise.

²⁸ Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise.

¹⁷ Abraham fell to his face. He laughed and said to himself: "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?"

²⁴ Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised.

³⁵ She said to her father, Don't let my lord be angry that I can't rise up before you; for I'm having my period. He searched, but didn't find the teraphim.

¹⁹ "'When a woman has her monthly period, she will be unclean for seven days. Those who touch her will be unclean until evening.

⁷ But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.

¹⁸ Zechariah said to the angel, "How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years."

³⁶ Look, even Elizabeth your relative has conceived a son in her old age, and she who was called barren is in her sixth month.

¹⁸ Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” ¹⁹ Without weakening in his faith, he acknowledged the decrepitness of his body (since he was about a hundred years old) and the lifelessness of Sarah’s womb. ²⁰ Yet he did not waver through disbelief in the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, ²¹ being fully persuaded that God was able to do what He had promised.

¹¹ By faith Sarah, even though she was barren and beyond the opportune age, was enabled to conceive a child, because she considered Him faithful who had promised. ¹² And so from one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.

¹⁹ Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and in a sense, he did receive Isaac back from death.

¹³ The LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh, saying, 'Will I really bear a child, yet I am old?'

⁶ Sarah said: "God brought me laughter. Everyone who hears about this will laugh on account of me." ⁷ She added: "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."

² Then our mouths were filled with laughter, and our tongues formed joyful shouts. Then it was said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them."

¹⁸ Zechariah said to the angel, "How can I be sure of this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years." ¹⁹ The angel answered, "I am Gabriel. I stand in the very presence of God. I have been sent to speak to you and to tell you this good news. ²⁰ And now you will be silent and unable to speak until the day this comes to pass, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at their proper time.”

³⁴ “How can this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” ³⁵ The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.

³³ Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

⁶ Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her daughters, if you do right, and do not give way to fear.

²⁵ He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man.

¹⁰ And he said, "I will certainly return to you ⌊in the spring⌋, and look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the doorway of the tent, and which was behind him.

²³ The LORD said to Moses, "Has the LORD's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not."

²¹ Do not tremble before them, for the LORD your God, who is among you, is a great and awesome God.

³ then the LORD your God will restore your fortunes and will show compassion to you. He will gather you from among the peoples where he had scattered you.

⁶ Jonathan said to his armor bearer, "Come, let's go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised ones. Perhaps the LORD will work for us, since nothing prevents the LORD from delivering, whether by many or by a few."

¹⁶ Elisha said to her: "By this time next year you will hold a son in your arms." "Please do not lie to me. You are a man of God!" She said.

¹ Elisha said, "Hear the word of the LORD: 'Thus says the LORD, "At this time tomorrow a seah of wheat bread flour will sell for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel in the gate of Samaria.'" ² The personal attendant of the king said to Elisha: "If the LORD could make floodgates in the heavens could this happen?" Elisha replied: "You will see it with your own eyes. But you will not eat from it."

⁵ "God is mighty, but does not despise men. He is mighty in strength of understanding.

² "I know that you can do all things and no plan of yours can be thwarted.

¹³ Relent, LORD. How long? Have compassion on your servants.

¹ The LORD reigns. He is clothed with majesty. The LORD is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can't be moved.

³ For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods.

¹⁷ Ah, Sovereign LORD! You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and stretched out arm. Nothing is too great for You.

²⁷ Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for me?

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not keep His anger forever, because He delights in mercy.

⁶ Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Even if it seems impossible to the remnant of this people in those days, should it also seem impossible to me?' declares the LORD of hosts.

⁹ And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

³¹ Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and took hold of Peter. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?”

²⁶ Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

²⁷ Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.”

³⁷ for nothing is impossible with God.

⁵⁰ But Jesus overheard them and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

²¹ being fully persuaded that God was able to do what He had promised.

²⁰ Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, ²¹ who, by the power that enables Him to subject all things to Himself, will transform our lowly bodies to be like His glorious body.

¹³ I can do anything through him who gives me strength.

¹³ "Say you are my sister, so that I will be treated well for your sake, and my life will be spared because of you."

¹⁰ But he replied to her, "You're talking like foolish women do. Shall we accept what is good from God but not tragedy?" Throughout all of this, Job did not sin by what he said.

²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

¹⁹ Truth’s lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary.

¹³ He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

⁸ And Jesus knew, in his spirit, that they thus reasoned in themselves; and he said to them: Why reason ye thus in your heart?

¹⁷ The maid at the door said to Peter, "Are you also one of this man's disciples?" He said, "No, I am not."

²⁵ Simon Peter stood nearby warming himself. They asked him: "Are you also one of his disciples?" He denied it saying: "I am not." ²⁶ One of the high priest’s servants, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Didn’t I see you with Him in the garden?” ²⁷ Again Peter denied it. And at that very moment the cock crowed.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

²³ And be made new in the spirit of your mind,

⁹ Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices,

⁸ If we say we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

³ The church saw them off upon their journey, and as they traveled through Phoenicia and Samaria they told of the conversion of the heathen, and caused great rejoicing among all the brothers.

³⁸ What grieved them most was his statement that they would not see him again. They accompanied him to the ship.

⁵ But when our time there had ended, we set out on our journey. All the disciples, with their wives and children, accompanied us out of the city and knelt down on the beach to pray with us.

²⁴ I plan to do so when I go to Spain. I hope to see you while passing through, and to be helped by you on my journey there, after I have enjoyed your company for a while.

⁶ They have testified to the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.

²⁴ And the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.

²⁷ So she came to the man of God at the mountain, and she caught hold of his feet. Then Gehazi came near to push her away, but the man of God said, "Let her alone, for her soul is bitter, and the LORD has hidden it from me and has not told me."

⁷ Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend?

¹⁴ The Lord is the strength of them who fear him; and it is his covenant to display it for them.

⁷ "The Sovereign LORD will do nothing without revealing his secrets to his servants the prophets.

¹⁵ I no longer call you servants, because the servant knows not what his master does. But I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard from my Father, I have made known to you.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

² "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities. ¹⁸ And by your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

⁴ I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

¹⁷ His name endures forever, his name continues as long as the sun. Men shall be blessed in him, all nations will call him blessed.

²⁵ And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers, when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’ ²⁶ When God raised up His servant, He sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

⁸ The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”

¹⁴ He redeemed us so that the blessing promised to Abraham would come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms.

²³ On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him. ²⁴ Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised. ²⁵ His son Ishmael was thirteen. ²⁶ Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that same day. ²⁷ Every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him.

⁹ Only guard yourselves carefully so you won't forget the things that you saw and let them slip from your mind for the rest of your life. Tell them to your children and to your grandchildren. ¹⁰ Remember the day that you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me Assemble me the people and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the land and that they may teach their children.

⁶ These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; ⁷ Repeat them to your sons, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you arise.

⁴⁶ he said to them, Set your heart to all the words which I testify to you this day, which you must command your children to observe to do, all the words of this law.

¹⁵ And if it seems evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve, whether the gods whom your fathers served Beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

³⁰ Therefore the LORD the God of Israel says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before Me forever'. But now the LORD says, 'Far be it from Me. Those who honour Me I will honour, and those who despise Me shall be despised. ³¹ The days are coming when I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house so that there shall not be an old man in your house.

²⁰ What more can David say to You? For You know Your servant, Sovereign LORD.

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

⁵ When their time of feasting had concluded, Job would rise early in the morning to send for them and consecrate them to God. He would offer a burnt offering for each one, because Job thought, "Perhaps my children sinned by cursing God in their hearts." Job did this time and again. ⁶ for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

⁴ the LORD is in his holy temple. the LORD is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe. His eyes examine the children of men.

¹⁵ The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their cry.

² I will open my mouth in parables. I will utter dark sayings of old, ³ That we have heard and known and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not hide them from their children, telling the next generation the praises of the LORD, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ He established a decree in Jacob, and established the Law in Israel, that he commanded our ancestors to reveal to their children ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children, ⁷ that they might set their hope in God, and not forget God's deeds, but keep his commandments, ⁸ They should not be like their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not prepare its heart and whose spirit was not faithful to God. ⁹ The sons of Ephraim, armed with archers, turned back on the day of battle.

²⁰ My son, keep your father's commandment, and do not forsake your mother's teaching. ²¹ bind them upon your heart forever, tie them around your neck. ²² When you go, they will lead you; when you sleep they will watch over you and when you awake, they will talk to you.

⁶ Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

¹⁹ "The living, yes the living praise you, as I am doing today! Fathers tell their children about your faithfulness.

² "You only have I chosen of all the families of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all of your sins."

¹⁴ I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me

¹⁷ He said to him the third time: Simon, son of John, do you love me? Peter was grieved because he asked him a third time: Do you love me? And he said to him: Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you. Jesus said to him: Feed my sheep.

²³ This night an angel of the God whose I am and whom I serve stood by me ²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

³¹ but Paul said to the Centurion and the soldiers, "Unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved."

⁴ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

⁴ [He must] manage his own family well and, with dignity, keep his children in subjection [or, “respectful”]. ⁵ For if a man does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?

¹² Deacons must be the husband of one wife, and must manage their children and their households well.

⁵ I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am convinced is in you as well.

¹⁹ Nevertheless, God's firm foundation stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

¹⁵ From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

¹⁰ the LORD said: "What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood (life) cries out to me from the ground.

¹³ The men of Sodom were wicked and sinned greatly against the LORD.

¹³ For we are going to destroy this place; for their cry has been raised up before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.

⁹ The look of their faces testify against them. They parade their sin like Sodom. They do not hide it. Woe to their soul. For they have brought disaster upon themselves.

⁷ For the vineyard of the LORD Almighty is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah is the plantation of his delight. And he waited for justice, but look! Bloodshed! For righteousness, but look! A cry of distress!

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O LORD, act for the sake of your name. Yes, our apostasies are many; we have sinned against you.

⁴⁹ ‘»This was the guilt of your sister Sodom. She and her daughters had arrogance, abundant food and careless ease, but she did not help the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ '"They were arrogant and did disgusting things in front of me. So I did away with them when I saw this.

⁴ Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts.

⁵ But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.

⁷ "Let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."

⁸ I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

⁵ the LORD said to Moses: "Tell the Israelites: You are impossible to deal with. If I were with you, I might destroy you at any time. Take off your jewelry and I will decide what to do with you."

² "Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way these 40 years in the desert, to humble and test you in order to make known what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

³ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

²² The Mighty One, God, the LORD, the Mighty One, God, the LORD, He knows; and Israel shall know if it was in rebellion, or in trespass against the LORD (don't save us this day).

²² There is no darkness or deep shadow where troublemakers can hide.

⁸ You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.

You understand my thought from afar. ³ Thou measurest my going about and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. ⁴ For not a word is on my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, You know it all. ⁵ You hem me in behind and before, You have laid Your hand on me. ⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; too high, I cannot attain unto it. ⁷ Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence? ⁸ If I go up to heaven, you are there: or if I make my bed in the underworld, you are there. ⁹ If I lift up the wings of the dawn, and I alight on the far side of the sea, ¹⁰ even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me. ¹¹ If I say: Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light around me. ¹² even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you. ¹³ For you formed my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb. ¹⁴ I praise you, because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, and my soul knows it well. ¹⁵ My frame wasn’t hidden from you, when I was made in secret, woven together in the depths of the earth. ¹⁶ Your eyes saw my embryo and all were written in your book; the days ordained for me. Even this before one had taken place. ¹⁷ How precious to me are your thoughts, God. How vast is the sum of them. ¹⁸ If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with you. ¹⁹ If only you, God, would kill the wicked. Get away from me, you bloodthirsty men! ²⁰ For they go against you with evil designs, and your haters make sport of your name. ²¹ Do I not hate those who hate you, O LORD? And do I not loathe those who rise up against you? ²² I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them my enemies. ²³ Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. ²⁴ And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

¹ The sin of Judah is engraved with an iron stylus. It is inscribed with a diamond point on the tablet of their heart and on the horns of their altars.

¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

³ For behold, the LORD is coming out from his place, and he will come down and tread upon the high places of the earth.

¹² And it shall be in that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men who are settled on their lees; who say in their heart, the LORD will not do good, nor will He do evil.

¹⁵ So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but to do the will of Him who sent Me.

¹¹ Why? Because I do not love you? God knows I do!

¹⁶ For the Lord himself will descend from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered and exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

¹ And the Lord appeared unto him in the grove of Mamre; while he was sitting at the door of the tent in the heat of the day. ² And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men were standing near him. And he saw them and ran from the doorway of the tent to meet them. And he bowed down to the ground.

²³ So he said he would exterminate them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to reverse his wrath from destroying them.

¹ Then the LORD said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood before me, my heart would not be to this people. Send them away from my sight, and let them go out.

²⁰ Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit to take my life. Remember! I stood before you and spoke good on their behalf in order to turn your wrath away from them.

³⁰ '"I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.

⁵⁵ But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked intently into heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God.

¹ I urge therefore, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made for all men;

²⁵ Far be it from you to do such a thing as this, to kill the righteous with the wicked, that the righteous would be as the wicked! Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth do justice?"

⁴ Now Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, Lord, will you put to death an upright nation?

²² And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, God of the spirits of all flesh; shall one man sin, and will You be angry with all the congregation?

¹⁷ When David saw the angel who had been attacking the people, he said to the LORD, "Look, I'm the one who has sinned! I did the evil. These are only sheep! What did they do? Please, let your hand fall on me and on my household!"

³ "Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right?

¹⁷ "Shall one who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the righteous Mighty One?

⁴ the LORD is in his holy temple. the LORD is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe. His eyes examine the children of men. ⁵ The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence his soul hates. ⁶ On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. ⁷ For the LORD is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.

²⁸ But it is good for me to come close to God. I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge, that I may tell of all Your works.

²¹ Their leader will be one of their own, and their ruler will come from among them. I'll bring him near, and he will approach me, for who would otherwise dare to approach me?' declares the LORD.

⁵ But if our unrighteousness highlights the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict His wrath on us? I am speaking in human terms. ⁶ Certainly not! For then how could God judge the world?

²² let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

¹⁷ Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

³² He said, Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there? He said, I will not destroy it for the ten's sake.

⁹ Unless the LORD of hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have been as Sodom, and we would have been like Gomorrah.

¹ "Roam about through the streets of Jerusalem, and look please, and take note, and search at its public squares, if you can find a person who does justice, who seeks honesty, so that I may forgive it.

¹³ Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. ¹⁴ But small is the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few find it.

²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

⁴ The Rock: his work is perfect, for all his ways are just. A God of faithfulness who does no wrong, just and right is he.

²⁰ "Certainly God does not reject a blameless man or strengthen the hands of evildoers.

²² "It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked. ²³ If a calamity causes sudden death, he'll mock at the despair of the innocent.

¹⁷ "Shall one who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the righteous Mighty One? ¹⁸ Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art worthless? and to princes, Ye are wicked? ¹⁹ who does not respect the persons of rulers, nor regards the rich more than the poor. For they all are the work of his hands.

¹¹ A person will say, "Certainly, the righteous are rewarded; certainly there is a God who judges the earth."

² Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve.

⁹ Let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity.

¹⁵ In the days of my vanity I took a view of all classes. Here is a righteous man perishing for his righteous act: there a wicked man continuing in his wickedness.

¹² Though a sinner commits crimes a hundred times, and lives long, yet surely I know that it will be better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him. ¹³ but not good with the wicked: he prolongs not his days as a shadow; because he awes not at the face of Elohim.

¹⁰ Say you to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds. ¹¹ Woe to the wicked. Disaster is upon them; for the work of his hands will be done to him.

¹ The righteous perish, and no one lays it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, and no one considers that the righteous is taken away from the evil. ² His burial shall be in peace: he has been removed out of the way.

¹ You are righteous, O LORD, when I contend with you. Yet I would reason the case with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all those at ease who deal very treacherously?

¹⁸ When you return, you will see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between the one who serves God and the one who does not."

²² For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, ²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. ²⁴ Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life. ²⁵ Truly, truly, I tell you, the hour is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. ²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself; so he has granted to the Son to have life in himself; ²⁷ and he has given him authority to judge, because he is the Son of Man.

¹⁰ For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

¹³ If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed, as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stump remains when they are cut down; so the holy seed is its stock.”

²² For though your people, Israel, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.

²⁴ In that day Israel will be the third together with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the earth:

⁸ the LORD says: "As when juice is still found in a cluster of grapes and men say, 'Do not destroy it, there is yet some good in it,' so will I do in behalf of my servants; I will not destroy them all.

²² If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened.

⁷ the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. The man became a living being.

¹⁹ By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return."

³⁰ And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if thirty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." ³¹ He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake." ³² He said, Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there? He said, I will not destroy it for the ten's sake.

⁶ and said, "My God, I am ashamed and embarrassed to lift my face to you, my God. For our sins have risen above our heads and our guilt has grown up to the heavens.

¹⁹ How much more, those who dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!

¹⁹ He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

⁶ Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." ⁷ And it happened after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. ⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

⁴ what is man, that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You care for him?

³ LORD, what is man, that you care for him? Or the son of man, that you think of him?

⁷ and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

⁵ "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips (a sinner) and I live among a people of unclean (filthy) lips (speech) (language). My eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."

⁸ But now, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay and you our potter and we are all the work of your hand.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus' knees and said, "Leave me, Lord! I am a sinful man!"

¹ Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and never despair.

⁴⁷ The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. ⁴⁸ As was the earthly man, so also are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.

¹ Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. ² Here indeed we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,

²⁶ the LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.”

²⁹ And once again he spoke to him and said, "What if forty are found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it on account of the forty."

¹⁷ Now, let the power of the LORD be magnified just as you've promised saying: ¹⁸ 'the LORD is slow to anger and great of loyal love, forgiving sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ "By your great love, please forgive these people's sins, as you have forgiven them from the time they left Egypt until now."

³² So they put sackcloth on their bodies and ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, "Your servant Ben Hadad says, 'Please let me live.'" He said, "Is he still alive? He is my brother." ³³ Now the men took it as a sign, and were quick to pick up on his word. They said: "Benhadad is your brother." Then he said: "Go and get him." So Ben-hadad came out to him and he made him get up into his carriage.

³ Oh that I knew where I might find him! I would come even unto his dwelling-place; ⁴ I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

¹⁸ Pray in the Spirit at all times, with every kind of prayer and petition. To this end, stay alert with all perseverance in your prayers for all the saints.

¹⁶ Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

¹⁸ And Judah drew near him, and said, I pray, Sir, let your servant speak a word before you, and be not angry with your servant, for you are next to Pharaoh.

³⁹ Then Gideon said to God: "Do not be angry with me. Allow me to speak just once more. Please let me make one more test with the wool. This time let the wool be dry, and the ground wet."

¹¹ "Every servant of the king and every person in the king's provinces knows that for any man or woman who goes to the king in the inner court without being summoned there is only one law that he be put to death unless the king holds out the golden scepter to him. Only then he will live. For these last 30 days I've not been summoned to come to the king." ¹² And they said these words to Mordecai. ¹³ Mordecai sent this answer back to Esther: "Do not have the idea that you in the king's house will be safe from the fate of all the Jews. ¹⁴ For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. Who knows if you haven't come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" ¹⁵ Esther said to reply to Mordecai: ¹⁶ “Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Susa, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”

⁴ Behold, I am slight; how can I reply to You? I place my hand upon my mouth.

¹² For he who avenges blood remembers them. He doesn’t forget the cry of the afflicted.

¹⁷ LORD, you heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen them, you will listen carefully,

⁷ a God very awesome in the council of the holy ones and to be feared above all those who are all around him?

⁸ "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. ⁹ "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

²⁸ Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe, ²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, Now I have taken upon me to speak to my Lord, I who am but dust and ashes!

⁷ Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

¹¹ If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

⁸ I tell you, though he will not get up and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as much as he needs.

²⁰ by the new and living way opened for us through the curtain of His body, ²¹ and since we have a great priest over the house of God, ²² let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

³⁰ And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if thirty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."

⁹ Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ And now leave me alone so that my anger may blaze against them, and let me destroy them, and I will make you into a great nation."

¹⁴ So the LORD changed his mind and did not bring disaster on his people as he threatened.

¹³ Now, if I've found favor in your sight, please show me your ways so I may know you in order to find favor in your sight. And remember, this nation is your people." ¹⁴ He said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

⁶ And the LORD passed over before him, and he proclaimed, "the LORD, the LORD, God, who is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding with loyal love and faithfulness, ⁷ "He graciously loves thousands, and forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin. But he does not leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of the ancestors on their children, and on their children's children to the third and fourth generation."

⁹ He said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, Lord, please let the Lord go among us, even though this is a stiff-necked people; pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.” ¹⁰ Then the LORD said, "Now I'm going to make a covenant. Before all your people I'll do miraculous deeds that haven't been done in all the earth or in any nation. All the people among whom you live will see the work of the LORD, for it's an awesome thing that I'll do with you.

¹¹ The LORD said to Moses, "How long will this people despise me? And how long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them? ¹² I will smite them with the pestilence, and destroy them, and will make of thee a nation greater and mightier than they. ¹³ Moses said to the LORD, "Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them; ¹⁴ And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that you LORD are among this people, that you LORD are seen face to face, and that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them, by daytime in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night. ¹⁵ "But if you kill all these people at the same time the nations who have heard these reports about you will say, ¹⁶ "the LORD was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them, so he slaughtered them in the desert. ¹⁷ Now, let the power of the LORD be magnified just as you've promised saying: ¹⁸ 'the LORD is slow to anger and great of loyal love, forgiving sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ "By your great love, please forgive these people's sins, as you have forgiven them from the time they left Egypt until now." ²⁰ the LORD said: "I forgive them, as you have asked.

²³ "Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him,

⁵ for you, O Adonay, are good and forgiving - abundant in mercy to all who call on you.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

⁶ “I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness. I will hold your hand. I will keep you, and make you a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations, ⁷ To open eyes that are blind,—To bring forth Out of the dungeon the captive Out of the prison, the dwellers in darkness.

¹⁵ And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. ¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. ¹⁷ Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. ¹⁶ If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not leading to death. There is sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.

⁵⁵ Early the next morning Laban kissed his grandchildren and his daughters and blessed them. Then Laban left and went back home.

²⁶ The man said, "Let me go, for the day breaks." Jacob said, "I won't let you go, unless you bless me."
