¹ And we turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. ² "the LORD said to me: 'Do not be afraid of him. I will hand him, all his army, and his land, over to you. Do to him what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon.' ³ "So the LORD our God also delivered into our control Og king of Bashan, along with his whole army. We attacked him until there were no survivors. ⁴ And we took all his cities at that time. There was not a city which we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ⁵ All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; besides a good many unwalled towns. ⁶ And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children: ⁷ But all the livestock, and the plunder of the cities, we took for plunder for ourselves. ⁸ "So at that time we took control from the two Amorite kings the territory east of the Jordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon. ⁹ (Sidonians call Hermon, Sirion; and the Amorites call it Senir,) ¹⁰ All the towns of the table-land and all Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, towns of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ¹¹ »Of the Rephaim only King Og of Bashan was left. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide. It is still in the Ammonite city of Rabbah. ¹² "Of the land that we captured at that time, I've given its towns to the Reubenites and the Gaddites from Aroer near the Wadi Arnon to half of the hill country of Gilead. ¹³ And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, to all Bashan that is called the land of the giants. ¹⁴ Jair the son of Manasseh took the whole region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and called Bashan after his own name, Havoth-Jair, to this day.) ¹⁵ And I gave Gilead to Machir. ¹⁶ And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the valley of Arnon, the middle of the valley and its border; even to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the sons of Ammon; ¹⁷ the Arabah also, and the Jordan and its border, from Chinnereth to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, under the slopes of Pisgah eastward. ¹⁸ "Then I commanded you at that time, 'The Lord your God gave you this land as a possession. Those equipped for battle every man a warrior will cross before your fellow Israelites. ¹⁹ Only your wives and your little children and your livestock (I know that you have much livestock) must stay in your towns that I have given you, ²⁰ until the LORD give rest to your brethren, as well as to you, and they also take possession of the land that the LORD your God giveth them beyond the Jordan; then shall ye return, each man to his possession, which I have given you. ²¹ "I also gave Joshua this command: 'You have seen with your own eyes everything the LORD your God has done to these two kings. the LORD will do the same to all of the kingdoms on the other side of the Jordan River where you are going. ²² Do not fear them, for the LORD your God himself will fight for you." ²³ »Then I pleaded with the LORD: ²⁴ “Sovereign LORD, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or in earth that can do works like yours, and mighty acts like yours? ²⁵ Please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country, and Lebanon." ²⁶ "the LORD was angry with me because of you, so he would not listen to me. He said: 'Enough of that! Do not talk to me anymore about this. ²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah and lift your eyes toward the west, north, south, and east. Look with your own eyes, since you won't be able to cross this Jordan River. ²⁸ But commission Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him; for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see." ²⁹ So we stayed in the valley near Beth Peor.

³³ Then they turned and went up by the way of the Bashan, and Og king of the Bashan and all his people went out to meet them for battle at Edrei. ³⁴ the LORD said to Moses: "Do not fear him for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon." ³⁵ So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

⁴ This took place after he defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon and Og, king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth at Edrei.

⁴⁷ So they took possession of his land, as well as the land of Og king of Bashan. Both Amorite kings lived east of the Jordan

⁷ When you came to this place, Sihon, king of Heshbon, and Og, king of Bashan, came out to make war against us and we overcame them:

⁴ And the LORD will do to them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites and to their land, whom he destroyed.

¹⁰ and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites beyond Jordan, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan which dwelt at Ashtaroth.

³⁰ Their territory extended from Mahanaim to include all of Bashan, all of the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, all of the 60 towns of Jair there in Bashan,

¹⁹ Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only officer who was in the land.

²² And you gave them kingdoms and nations and allotted them a portion. They took into possession the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan.

¹⁰ He struck many nations, and killed mighty kings, ¹¹ Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

²⁰ and Og king of Bashan; for His mercy endures forever;

⁹ Only, do not rebel against the LORD. And you, do not fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their defense has turned away from them; and the LORD is with us; do not be afraid of them.

²³ Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Sihon gathered all his troops and came out into the desert to attack Israel. When Sihon's troops came to Jahaz, they fought against Israel. ²⁴ Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified. ²⁵ Israel took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages.

³⁴ the LORD said to Moses: "Do not fear him for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon."

²⁴ Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle. ²⁵ Today, I will begin to put your dread and your fear upon the nations under the whole heavens; who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you. ²⁶ Then from the waste land of Kedemoth I sent representatives to Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying, ²⁷ I will pass through your land; I will go by the road, I will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. ²⁸ Sell me food for cash so I can eat and give me water for cash, so I can drink. Just let me pass through on foot ²⁹ as the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us. We will keep going until we cross the Jordan River into the land the LORD our God is giving us.' ³⁰ But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today. ³¹ "Then the LORD said to me, 'See, I've begun to deliver Sihon and his territory over to you. Prepare to take possession of his land.' ³² Then Sihon and all his people came out to meet us for battle at Jahaz. ³³ The LORD our God delivered him to us, so we attacked him, his son, and his whole army. ³⁴ At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any: ³⁵ But the domestic beasts we plundered for ourselves, and the loot of the cities that we had seized. ³⁶ From Aroer on the edge of Arnon Valley and from the town all the way to Gilead, there was no city that was too strong for us the LORD our God delivered them all to us. ³⁷ Only to the land of the sons of Ammon you did not come near, all the side of the river Jabbok and the cities of the hill-country and wherever the LORD our God forbad us.

¹¹ »Of the Rephaim only King Og of Bashan was left. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide. It is still in the Ammonite city of Rabbah.

³ He should say: "Listen, Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not lose your courage! Do not be afraid. Do not tremble because of them.

¹⁷ You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.'"

¹⁰ "'Do not fear for I am with you! Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.'

⁵ Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west.

⁹ One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking; do not be silent.

²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Look, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison to test you, and you will suffer tribulation for ten days. Be faithful even unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.

³⁵ So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

³³ The LORD our God delivered him to us, so we attacked him, his son, and his whole army. ³⁴ At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any:

¹² The kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants. Moses defeated them and took over their land.

³³ Moses therefore gave to the children of Gad and of Ruben, and to the half tribe of Manasses the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sehon king of the Amorrhites, and the kingdom of Og king of Basan, and their land and the cities thereof round about. ³⁴ The sons of Gad rebuilt Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, ³⁵ Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, ³⁶ Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran: fortified cities and folds for sheep. ³⁷ And the Reubenites rebuilt Esebon, and Eleale, and Kariatham, ³⁸ Nebo, and Baal Meon, (their names being changed), and Sibmah. They gave other names to the cities which they built. ³⁹ The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead. They captured it and forced out the Amorites who were there. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to the people of Machir the descendants of Manasseh, and they lived there. ⁴¹ Then Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured the settlements in Gilead. He called them Havvoth Jair. ⁴² Nobah captured Kenath and its villages. He named it Nobah after himself.

³⁰ Their territory extended from Mahanaim to include all of Bashan, all of the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, all of the 60 towns of Jair there in Bashan, ³¹ and, half Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, pertained to the sons of Machir son of Manasseh, to half the sons of Machir by their families.

¹³ Ben-Geber, in Ramoth-Gilead, has the small towns of Jair son of Manasseh, which [are] in Gilead; he has a portion of Argob that [is] in Bashan, sixty great cities [with] wall and brazen bar.

²⁸ »The people who live there are strong. The cities have walls and are very large. We even saw the descendants of Anak there.

²⁸ "'Where can we go up? Our brothers caused us to lose heart. They said: The people are stronger and taller than we are. The cities are large and the walls go up to the sky. Moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there."'

³⁰ By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days.

²⁸ However, no devoted thing that a man shall devote to the LORD of all that he has, either of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. Every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD. ²⁹ `No devoted thing, which is devoted of man, is ransomed, it is surely put to death.

² Then Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD and said, "If thou wilt give this people into our hands, we will destroy their cities."

²⁴ Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle.

³⁴ At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any:

² "the LORD said to me: 'Do not be afraid of him. I will hand him, all his army, and his land, over to you. Do to him what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon.'

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you must save alive nothing that breathes; ¹⁷ you must utterly destroy them: the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite and the Jebusite, as the LORD your God has commanded you, ¹⁸ "Otherwise, they will teach you to do all the disgusting things they do for their gods. You will sin against the LORD your God.

¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed.

¹⁰ He struck many nations, and killed mighty kings, ¹¹ Sihon king of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan, ¹² and he gave their land as an inheritance, an inheritance to his people Israel.

¹⁹ Sihon king of the Amorites; for His grace endures forever; ²⁰ and Og king of Bashan; for His mercy endures forever; ²¹ and gave their land as an inheritance; for His grace endures forever;

³⁵ But the domestic beasts we plundered for ourselves, and the loot of the cities that we had seized.

²⁷ Only, Israel seized for themselves the livestock, and the plunder of the city, according to the word of the LORD which He commanded Joshua.

¹¹ And they struck every person in it by the mouth of the sword. He destroyed them, he did not leave anyone breathing; and he burned Hazor with fire. ¹² Joshua took all the cities and all the kings and struck them with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed them. Just as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded. ¹³ Israel did not burn the cities standing on their mounds, except Hazor alone, which Joshua burned. ¹⁴ And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed.

² Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the Arnon River, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the children of Ammon; ³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth Jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah: ⁴ the territory of Og king of Bashan, one of the last of the Rephaites, who lived at Ashtaroth and Edrei ⁵ ruling over Mount Herman, Salecah, and all of Bashan as far as the border of the Geshurites, the Maacathites, and half of Gilead to the border of Sihon king of Hesbon. ⁶ Moses, the servant of the LORD, and the Israelites defeated them. Then Moses, the servant of the LORD, gave it to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh as their inheritance.

⁹ From Aroer, on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the town in the middle of the valley, and all the table-land from Medeba to Dibon; ¹⁰ and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon up to the border of the Ammonites; ¹¹ and Gilead, and the boundary of the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and all Bashan, as far as Salecah; ¹² The kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants. Moses defeated them and took over their land.

⁴⁸ This land extended from the town of Aroer, on the edge of the Arnon River, north to Mount Sirion, that is, Mount Hermon. ⁴⁹ and all the Arabah east of the Jordan as far as the Dead Sea below the slopes of Pisgah.

¹⁷ from Mount Halak, that goes up to Seir, even to Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon under Mount Hermon. He took all their kings, struck them, and put them to death.

²³ The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).

⁶ He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox.

¹² You have created the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon rejoice in your name.

³ Like the dew of Hermon, which fell upon the hill of Zion. For there the LORD promised his blessing, and life forevermore.

⁸ Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, with me from Lebanon. Look from the top of Amana, from the top of Senir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards.

⁵ They have made all your planks of fir trees from Senir; they have taken a cedar from Lebanon to make a mast for you.

³³ Then they turned and went up by the way of the Bashan, and Og king of the Bashan and all his people went out to meet them for battle at Edrei.

⁴⁹ and all the Arabah east of the Jordan as far as the Dead Sea below the slopes of Pisgah.

⁵ In the fourteenth year Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-Kiriathaim,

¹¹ Like the Anakim, they too were accounted as Rephaim, yet the Moabites called them Emim.

²⁰ (That also is considered a land of Rephaim. Rephaim lived there in the past, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,

⁴ A champion named Goliath from Gath came out from the Philistine camp. He was six and a half feet tall,

¹ In the spring, at the time of the year when kings usually go to war, David sent out Joab with his officers and the Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged the city of Rabbah. David stayed in Jerusalem.

²⁶ And Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites, and he captured the royal city.

² "'That is why the days are coming,' declares the LORD, 'when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah, where the people of Ammon live. It will become a pile of rubble. Its villages will be burned down.' "'Then Israel will take possession of its inheritance,' says the LORD.

²⁰ You shall set a way that the sword may enter into Rabbah of the Ammonites, and into Judah, into fortified Jerusalem.

¹⁴ Therefore I will kindle a fire in the walls of Rabbah, that shall consume her palaces: with a great cry, in the day of battle, in tempest and in the day of storm.

⁹ Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, who was as tall as cedars and was as strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

Moses defeated them and took over their land. ¹³ But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites; Geshur and Maacah live among Israel to this day. ¹⁴ But unto the tribe of Levi he gave no inheritance; the sacrifices on fire of the LORD God of Israel are their inheritance, as he said unto them. ¹⁵ And Moses gave their heritage to the tribe of Reuben by their families. ¹⁶ Their limit was from Aroer, on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the town in the middle of the valley, and all the table-land by Medeba; ¹⁷ Heshbon, and all its cities that are in the plain; Dibon, Bamoth Baal, Beth Baal Meon, ¹⁸ Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath, ¹⁹ Kiriathaim, Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley, ²⁰ Beth Peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth Jeshimoth; ²¹ all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses struck with the chiefs of Midian, Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the princes of Sihon, who lived in the land. ²² In addition to their slain, the Israelites killed with the sword Balaam son of Beor, who practiced divination. ²³ The border of the children of Reuben was the bank of the Jordan. This was the inheritance of the children of Reuben according to their families, the cities and its villages. ²⁴ And Moses gave their heritage to the tribe of Gad by their families. ²⁵ And their limit was Jazer, and all the towns of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, to Aroer before Rabbah; ²⁶ and from Heshbon to Ramath Mizpeh, and Betonim; and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir; ²⁷ and in the valley, Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan’s bank, to the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward. ²⁸ This is the possession of the children of Gad by their families, their cities, and villages.

³³ East of Jordan, in all the land of Gilead, the Gadites and the Reubenites and the Manassites, from Aroer by the valley of the Arnon, all Gilead and Bashan.

²⁹ Moses gave an inheritance to the half-tribe of Manasseh; it was for the half-tribe of the descendants of Manasseh according to their families. ³⁰ Their territory extended from Mahanaim to include all of Bashan, all of the kingdom of King Og of Bashan, all of the 60 towns of Jair there in Bashan, ³¹ and, half Gilead and Ashtaroth and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, pertained to the sons of Machir son of Manasseh, to half the sons of Machir by their families. ³² These are the inheritances which Moses distributed in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan at Jericho, eastward.

²³ The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon). ²⁴ These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families. ²⁵ But they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. ²⁶ So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah, Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.

⁴¹ Then Jair, a descendant of Manasseh, captured the settlements in Gilead. He called them Havvoth Jair.

¹³ But the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites; Geshur and Maacah live among Israel to this day.

³ his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur;

⁶ When the Ammonites realized that they had created quite a stink with David, they hired 20,000 Aramean mercenaries from Beth-rehob and Zobah, along with the king of Maacah and 1,000 men, and 12,000 men from Tob.

³⁷ But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

²¹ Later, Hezron lay with the daughter of Makir the father of Gilead (he had married her when he was sixty years old), and she bore him Segub. ²² Segub was the father of Jair, who controlled twenty-three towns in Gilead. ²³ But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth Jair, as well as Kenath with its surrounding settlements sixty towns. All these were descendants of Makir the father of Gilead.

²³ And Joseph will see sons to Ephraim of the third generation; also the sons of Machir, son of Manasseh, were brought forth upon Joseph's knees.

²⁹ The sons of Manasseh were:through Machir the Machirite family, and Machir begat Gilead; through Gilead the Gileadite family.

³⁹ The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead. They captured it and forced out the Amorites who were there. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to the people of Machir the descendants of Manasseh, and they lived there.

¹ Then the allotment was made for the tribe of Manasseh, because he was the firstborn of Joseph. To Makir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, were allotted Gilead and Bashan, because he was a warrior. ² An allotment was made for the remaining descendants of Manasseh, according to their families: For the children of Abiezer, Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida—these were the male descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph according to their families. ³ But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

⁷ Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave among their brothers beyond the Jordan westward. Moreover when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them,

²² That night he arose and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven children and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.

²⁴ Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified.

³⁷ Only to the land of the sons of Ammon you did not come near, all the side of the river Jabbok and the cities of the hill-country and wherever the LORD our God forbad us.

² Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which is upon the bank of the Arnon River, and from the middle of the river, and from half Gilead, to the Jabbok River, which is the border of the children of Ammon; ³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth Jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah:

⁵ And they crossed over the Jordan and camped in Aroer, on the right of the city, in the middle of the Valley of Gad, and to Jazer.

¹⁰ Lot looked up and saw that the district of the Jordan River was well watered, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.

³ these all joined together in the valley of Siddim - the salt sea.

²⁸ He looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah and all the land in the Plain. He saw smoke rising from the land like the thick smoke of a furnace. ²⁹ When God destroyed the cities of the plain, God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the middle of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot lived.

¹⁴ So he took him to the field of Zophim to the top of Pisgah, and he built seven altars, and he offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

¹¹ Going down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain, and on as far as the east side of the sea of Chinnereth: ¹² Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan, and its border-area will be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land as to its boundaries round about.

¹⁶ the waters flowing down from above stood still; they stood up in one heap very far from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

³ and the Arabah to the sea of Chinneroth, eastward, and to the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, eastward, the way to Beth Jeshimoth; and on the south, under the slopes of Pisgah:

²⁷ and in the valley, Beth Haram, Beth Nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon, the Jordan’s bank, to the uttermost part of the sea of Chinnereth beyond the Jordan eastward.

² Their southern border was from the end of the salt sea, from the bay facing southward;

⁵ The eastern border is the Salt Sea up to the mouth of the Jordan. The border on the northern side runs from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan;

¹⁹ The border passes on to the slope of Beth-hoglah to the north and ends at the north bay of the Salt Sea at the south end of the Jordan. This is the southern border.

²⁰ And Moses will say to them, If ye will do this word, if ye will arm yourselves before the LORD for battle, ²¹ and all of you will go armed over Jordan before the LORD until He has driven out His enemies from before Him, ²² and the land is subdued before the LORD; then afterward you shall return, and be clear of obligation to the LORD and to Israel. Then this land shall be your possession before the LORD. ²³ "But if you will not do so, look, you have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out. ²⁴ "So build your towns and the enclosures for your sheep, but do what you have promised!"

¹² To the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, ¹³ "Remember the word Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you: 'the LORD your God has given you rest, and has given you this land.'" ¹⁴ Your wives, your little ones and your livestock shall live in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but all your mighty men of valour shall pass over before your brothers, armed, and shall help them ¹⁵ until the LORD has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which the LORD your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.'"

¹² The children of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the Israelites, as Moses told them. ¹³ About forty thousand armed for fighting crossed over before the presence of the LORD to the plains of Jericho for battle.

¹ Then Joshua summoned the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ² And said to them: You have done all that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you: you have also obeyed me in all things, ³ Ye left not your brethren this many days till this day, and ye watched the watches of the command of the LORD your God. ⁴ And now the Lord our God has given our brethren rest, as He told them. Now then, return and depart to your homes, and to the land of your possession, which Moses gave you on the other side of the Jordan. ⁵ Only take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul." ⁶ So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away; and they went to their tents. ⁷ Now to the one half-tribe of Manasseh Moses had given in Bashan, but to the other half Joshua gave among their brothers beyond the Jordan westward. Moreover when Joshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them, ⁸ "Return to your tents with great wealth, plenty of livestock, silver, gold, bronze, iron, and lots of clothing. Divide the spoil from your enemies among your relatives." ⁹ The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh went back to the land of Gilead, leaving the Israelites at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, for their territorial possession that they had inherited in accordance with the command of the LORD given through Moses.

⁴ And now the Lord our God has given our brethren rest, as He told them. Now then, return and depart to your homes, and to the land of your possession, which Moses gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

⁸ "Return to your tents with great wealth, plenty of livestock, silver, gold, bronze, iron, and lots of clothing. Divide the spoil from your enemies among your relatives."

¹⁸ Then the LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and place your hand on him. ¹⁹ Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and before the entire community, and commission him in their sight. ²⁰ "Give him some of your authority, so that the whole congregation of Israel will obey him. ²¹ And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before LORD. At his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the sons of Israel with him, even ²² Moses did as the LORD commanded him. He had Joshua stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation. ²³ and he laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the LORD spoke by Moses.

²⁵ Joshua said: "Do not be afraid. Do not be terrified! Be strong and have courage: for this is what the LORD will do to all your enemies against whom you fight."

³⁶ Your servant killed both the lion and the bear. And this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, since he has defied the armies of the living God. ³⁷ David said, the LORD who delivered me out of the paw of the lion and out of the paw of the bear, will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go; and the LORD be with you.

¹⁰ Those who know your name will trust you, for you have not forsaken those who seek you, LORD.

¹⁰ He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and He will deliver us. In Him we have placed our hope that He will yet again deliver us,

¹⁰ That is why, for Christ's sake, I am content in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties; for when I am weak, then I am strong.

²⁰ Now to Him who is able to do infinitely more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us,

¹⁷ But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth. ¹⁸ The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

¹⁴ The LORD will fight for you, and you shall be still."

³⁰ the LORD your God, who is going before you, will himself fight for you, just as he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

⁴ For the LORD your God is he who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

⁴² All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the LORD the God of Israel fought for Israel.

¹² "God is with us as our leader. His priests will sound their trumpets to call the army to fight you. Men of Israel do not wage war against the LORD the God of your ancestors. You will not succeed."

²⁹ The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

³ For not with their sword did they possess the land, and their arm did not give them victory. Rather it was your right hand and your arm and the light of your presence, because you delighted in them.

¹ But now thus said the LORD that created you, O Jacob, and he that formed you, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name; you are mine. ² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.

⁸ Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. ⁹ But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

¹¹ "Who is like you among the gods, LORD! Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in splendor, and working wonders!

² Know this day—for I don't speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm,

²² Therefore you are great, my Sovereign LORD, for there is no one like you, and there is no god except you, in all that we have heard with our ears.

³² "Now therefore, our God, the great, mighty, and awesome God, who keeps the covenant and gracious love, don't let all of the difficulties seem trifling to you, all of hardships that have come upon us, upon our kings, upon our leaders, upon our priests, upon our prophets, upon our ancestors, and upon all of your people from the time of the kings of Assyria until this day.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like you, who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him; yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?"

¹⁹ Your righteousness also, O God, is very high, you who have done great things. O God, who is like you?

⁸ Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; none are like Your works.

⁶ For who in the skies compares to the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the divine beings?

⁸ O LORD God of hosts, who is like You, O mighty the LORD? Your faithfulness also surrounds you.

² Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD, or fully declare all his praise?

³ Great is the LORD, and very worthy of praise, and his greatness is unsearchable.

⁶ And they will speak of the power of your awesome deeds, and I will tell of your greatness.

¹⁸ To whom, then, will you compare God? What image will you compare him to?

²⁵ "To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?" says the Holy One.

⁶ There is no one like you, O Lord; you are great and your name is great in power.

¹⁸ showing loyal love to the thousands, and repaying the guilt of parents into the laps of their children after them. Powerful, great, mighty, his name is the LORD Almighty, ¹⁹ »You are great in counsel and mighty in deed. Your eyes are open to all the ways of the sons of men. You give to everyone according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds. ²⁰ who performed signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even to this day, both in Israel and among other men; and made yourself a name, as it is today; ²¹ and brought your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, with wonders, with a strong hand, with an outstretched arm, and with great terror;

²⁹ "Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut into pieces. Their houses shall be made a dunghill. There is no other god that is able to deliver like this."

⁸ I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

⁵ And they said, If we have found favor in your eyes, let this land be given to your servants for a possession. Do not make us pass over the Jordan.

²¹ "And the LORD was angry with me because of you, and he swore that I would not cross the Jordan and that I would not go to the good land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. ²² "I am going to die in this land. I will not cross the Jordan River. But you are going to go across and take possession of that good land.

¹¹ but the land, you pass over to possess is a land of mountains and valleys; and drinks water of the rain of the heavens: ¹² a land which the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are constantly on it from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.

⁶ in that day I swore to them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the glory of all lands. ⁷ the LORD said to Moses: ⁸ "Take the staff and summon the community, you and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give water. Bring out for them water from the rock, and let the community and their livestock drink." ⁹ So Moses took the staff from ⌊before⌋ Yahweh just as he command him, ¹⁰ Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?" ¹¹ Then Moses lifted up his hand and struck the rock with his staff twice. And abundant water went out, and the community and their livestock drank. ¹² But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you have not trusted in me, to regard me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this assembly into the land that I have given to them."

¹² the LORD said to Moses, "Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land that I have given to the Israelites. ¹³ And when you have seen it, you will be put to rest with your people, as your brother Aaron was: ¹⁴ because you rebelled against my word in the desert of Zin when the community quarreled regarding my holiness at the waters." (These are the waters of Meribah-Kadesh in the desert of Zin.)

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, Thou shalt not go in there either.

² I am one hundred and twenty years old this day. I can no more go out and come in, and the LORD has said to me, 'You shall not go over this Jordan'.

⁵¹ because of the fact that you broke faith with me in the midst of Israel at the waters of Meribah Kadesh, in the desert of Zin, because you did not treat me as holy in the midst of the Israelites. ⁵² "You will see the land at a distance, but you will not go into the land I am giving the sons of Israel."

⁴ Then the LORD said to him: "This is the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by an oath when I said, 'I'll give it to your descendants.' I'll let you see it with your eyes, but you won't cross over there."

⁴ "Go tell my servant David, This is what the LORD says: 'You are not the one to build me a house to dwell in.

¹² "'He is the one who will build a house for me. I will establish his throne forever. ¹³ "'I will be his father, and he will be my son. I will never take my love away from him, as I took it away from your predecessor.

⁷ David said to Solomon: "My son, I had it in my heart to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God. ⁸ "The word of the LORD came to me, saying: 'You have shed much blood and have fought many wars. You are not to build a house for my name. This is because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight. ⁹ »‘You will have a son who will be a man of peace and rest, and I will give him rest from all his enemies on every side. His name will be Solomon (peace), and I will grant Israel peace and quiet during his reign.

² And King David rose to his feet and said, "Listen to me, my brothers and my people. I myself wanted to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and the footstool of our God, and I prepared to build. ³ But God said to me, 'You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and have shed blood.' ⁴ But the LORD, the God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For He has chosen Judah to be the ruler, and of the house of Judah the house of my father. And in my father's house He was pleased to make me king over all Israel.

³² And they angered Him at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill for Moses because of them; ³³ for they rebelled against his spirit so that he babbled with his lips:

⁵ But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed. ⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

²² "None of you know what you are asking," said Jesus. "Can you drink the cup which I am about to drink?" "We can," they replied.

³⁹ Going a little farther, He fell facedown and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

⁸ Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.

¹⁴ After Lot had parted from Abram, the LORD said to Abram: »Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west. ¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever.

¹² the LORD said to Moses, "Go up to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land that I have given to the Israelites.

¹ Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, opposite from Jericho. the LORD showed him all the land of Gilead to Dan, ² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, ³ and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. ⁴ Then the LORD said to him: "This is the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob by an oath when I said, 'I'll give it to your descendants.' I'll let you see it with your eyes, but you won't cross over there."

³⁸ Joshua, the son of Nun, your assistant, will go there; encourage him because he will cause Israel to inherit it.

³ "the LORD your God is the one who will cross the river ahead of you. He will destroy those nations as you arrive. You will take possession of their land. Joshua will also cross the river ahead of you, as the LORD told you.

⁷ Then Moses summoned Joshua, and he said to him in the presence of all Israel, "Be strong and be courageous, for you will go with this people into the land that the LORD swore to their ancestors to give to them, and you will give it to them as an inheritance.

²³ the LORD gave this command to Joshua, son of Nun: "Be strong and courageous, because you will bring the Israelites into the land that I swore to give them, and I will be with you."

² "My servant Moses is dead. Get up and cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites.

⁷ And the LORD said to Joshua, Today, I will begin to magnify you in the sight of all Israel so that they may know that I will be with you, as I was with Moses. ⁸ misvah the priests bearing the ark of the covenant, saying, When you come to the edge of the water of Yarden, stand still in Yarden. ⁹ And Joshua said to the Israelites, "Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God." ¹⁰ And Joshua said, "Hereby ye shall know, that the living God is among you, and that he will, without fail, cast out before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perezites, the Gergesites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. ¹¹ Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth passes the Jordan before you. ¹² So then, take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. ¹³ "As soon as the soles of the feet of the priests that bear the Ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, set foot in the Jordan the waters of Jordan shall be cut off and they shall stand in a heap." ¹⁴ When the people set out from their camp to cross the jordan, and the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people and ¹⁵ As they carried the ark into the Jordan and the feet of the priests dipped into the water, for Jordan is at food stage at the time of harvest. ¹⁶ the waters flowing down from above stood still; they stood up in one heap very far from Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, while the waters flowing down to the sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho. ¹⁷ The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan. Then, all the people of Israel passed over the Jordan on dry ground.

⁶ Then he called for his son Solomon and charged him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel.

¹¹ "Now, my son, the LORD is with you, and may you have success and build the house of the LORD your God, as he said you would. ¹² "May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. ¹³ »You will have success if you are careful to observe the decrees and laws that the LORD gave Moses for Israel. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. ¹⁴ "I have taken great pains to provide for the temple of the LORD three thousand seven hundred and fifty tons of gold, about thirty-seven thousand five hundred tons of silver, quantities of copper and iron too great to be weighed, and wood and stone. And you may add to them. ¹⁵ "You have many workmen: stonecutters, masons and carpenters, as well as men skilled in every kind of work ¹⁶ in gold and silver, copper and iron, craftsmen beyond number. Now begin the work, and the LORD will be with you."

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever. ¹⁰ Consider now, for the LORD has chosen you to build a house for him as a sanctuary. Be strong, and do it."

²⁰ David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and courageous, and do it. Don't be afraid, nor be dismayed; for the LORD God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of the LORD is finished.

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

⁴⁵ And having received it in their turn, our fathers brought it in with Joshua when they took the land from the nations whom God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the time of David,

¹³ I charge you in the sight of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession; ¹⁴ to keep this commandment without spot, blameless until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹ You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. ² And the things you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. ³ Endure hardship with me as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

¹ I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of His appearing and His kingdom: ² preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction. ³ For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. ⁴ So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. ⁵ But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. ⁶ For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time of my departure is near.

⁸ Now if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day.

³ Israel joined himself to Baal Peor, and the LORD's anger burned against Israel.

⁴⁸ They journeyed from the mountains of Abarim and encamped in the plains of Moab along the Jordan across from Jericho. ⁴⁹ They set up camp on the plains of Moab along the Jordan. Their camp extended from Beth Jeshimoth to Abel Shittim.

³ "You saw with your own eyes what he did in Baal Peor. The LORD your God exterminated from among you every man who followed Baal of Peor.

⁴⁶ beyond the Jordan in the valley opposite Beth Peor in the land of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who was reigning in Heshbon and whom Moses and the Israelites defeated when they came out of Egypt.

⁶ And he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab opposite Beth Peor. But until this day no one knows his burial site.
