Deuteronomy 4 Cross References - VIN

1 And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them, that you may live and go in and possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, gives you. 2 You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, to keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. 3 "You saw with your own eyes what he did in Baal Peor. The LORD your God exterminated from among you every man who followed Baal of Peor. 4 "But all of you who were faithful to the LORD your God are still alive today. 5 »I have taught you laws and rules as the LORD my God commanded me. You must obey them when you enter the land and take possession of it. 6 Observe them carefully, for this will show your wisdom and discernment in the eyes of people who'll listen to all these decrees. Then they'll say: 'Surely this great nation is a wise and discerning people.' 7 For what great nation is there, that has a god so near to them, as the LORD our God is whenever we call on him? 8 And what other great nation has for it just rules and regulations just like this whole law that I am setting before you today? 9 Only guard yourselves carefully so you won't forget the things that you saw and let them slip from your mind for the rest of your life. Tell them to your children and to your grandchildren. 10 Remember the day that you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me Assemble me the people and I will make them hear My words, that they may learn to fear Me all the days that they live on the land and that they may teach their children. 11 And you came near and stood at the foot of the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire unto the midst of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and thick darkness. 12 the LORD your God spoke from the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of words, but you saw no form; there was only a voice. 13 And he declared to you his covenant, the Ten Commandments, which he charged you to observe, and he wrote them on the two tablets of stone. 14 And the LORD commanded me at that time to teach you the statutes and rights that ye might do them in the land which ye are about to enter to possess. 15 Be very careful, for you saw no kind of form on the day that the LORD spoke to you in Horeb out of the middle of the fire, 16 that you not deal corruptly, and make for yourselves a graven image, a likeness of any figure, the form of a male or female, 17 any animal on earth, any winged bird that flies in the sky, 18 any creeping thing on the ground, or any fish in the sea. 19 and lest having looked up to the sky, and having seen the sun and the moon and the stars, and all the heavenly bodies, you should go astray and worship them, and serve them, which the Lord your God has distributed to all the nations under heaven. 20 For the LORD took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace out of Egypt to be the people of his inheritance, as you are today. 21 "And the LORD was angry with me because of you, and he swore that I would not cross the Jordan and that I would not go to the good land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. 22 "I am going to die in this land. I will not cross the Jordan River. But you are going to go across and take possession of that good land. 23 Be careful, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you. 24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. 25 "When you have had children and grandchildren and you have grown old in the land and you act corruptly and you make a divine image of the form of anything and you do evil in the eyes of the LORD your God, thus provoking him to anger, 26 I call Heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land which you are crossing over Jordan to possess. You shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroyed. 27 The LORD will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where the LORD will drive you. 28 There you will serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see nor hear nor eat nor smell. 29 But if from there you shall seek the LORD your God, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 "When you are in trouble (distress) and all these things happen to you in the latter days, turn to the LORD your God and obey his voice. 31 For the LORD your God is a merciful God. He will not fail you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them. 32 For ask now to the former days which were before thee from the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the end of the heavens to the end of the heavens, Has there been as this great word, or was heard like it? 33 that a nation hath heard the voice of God speaking out of fire as thou hast heard, and yet lived? 34 Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? 35 It was shown to you so that you might know that the LORD is God, and no one else beside Him. 36 From heaven he made you hear his voice to teach you, and on the earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from the midst of the fire. 37 And because he loved your ancestors he chose their descendants after them. And he brought you forth from Egypt with his own presence, by his great strength, 38 Driving out before you nations greater and stronger than you, to take you into their land and give it to you for your heritage, as at this day. 39 "May you acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in the heavens above and over the earth below there is no other God. 40 You shall keep his statutes and his commandments which I command you today, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which the LORD your God gives you for all time. 41 Moses set aside three cities on the east side of the Jordan. 42 Those who unintentionally killed someone whom they had never hated could flee to one of these cities and save their lives. 43 Bezer in the desert plain for the Reubenites, Ramoth in Gilead for the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan for the Manassites. 44 Now this is the law that Moses set before the Israelites; 45 These are the instructions, decrees, and ordinances that Moses declared to the Israelites when they came out of Egypt. 46 beyond the Jordan in the valley opposite Beth Peor in the land of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who was reigning in Heshbon and whom Moses and the Israelites defeated when they came out of Egypt. 47 So they took possession of his land, as well as the land of Og king of Bashan. Both Amorite kings lived east of the Jordan 48 This land extended from the town of Aroer, on the edge of the Arnon River, north to Mount Sirion, that is, Mount Hermon. 49 and all the Arabah east of the Jordan as far as the Dead Sea below the slopes of Pisgah.

They do not wash their hands when they eat.” 3 Jesus replied, “And why do you break the command of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said: ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ 5 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might have received from me is a gift to God' 6 he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied correctly about you: 8 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’”

Mark 7:1-13

1 The Pharisees and some of the teachers of the law who had come from Jerusalem gathered around Jesus; 2 they saw some of his disciples eating food with hands that were defiled, that is, unwashed. 3 (For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, do not eat unless they wash their hands and forearms, holding to the tradition of the elders. 4 When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash themselves. And there are many other traditions which they observe, the washing of cups and pitchers and copper vessels.) 5 So the Pharisees and the scribes asked Jesus, "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders? Instead, they eat with unclean hands." 6 He told them, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites. As it is written, 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship Me in vain; they teach as doctrine the precepts of men.’ 8 You let go of the commandment of God, and hold on to the tradition of men." 9 And he said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God, in order to keep your tradition! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your Father and your mother,’ and, ‘Whoever curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ 11 But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might otherwise have received from me is Corban' (that is, a gift devoted to God), 12 then you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother, 13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which you have handed down. You do many things like this."

Numbers 25:1-9

1 While Israel remained at Shittim, the people indulged in sexual immorality with the Moabite women. 2 The Moabites invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods. The people ate and bowed down to their gods. 3 Israel joined himself to Baal Peor, and the LORD's anger burned against Israel. 4 the LORD said to Moses: "Take all the leaders of the people and execute them in broad daylight before the LORD so that the fierce anger of the LORD may turn away from Israel." 5 Moses said to the judges of Israel: "Each of you put to death those men who have joined in worshiping Baal of Peor." 6 One of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman to his brothers. He did this right in front of Moses and the entire congregation of Israel while they were crying at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 7 Phinehas, son of Eleazar and grandson of the priest Aaron, saw this. He left the assembly and grabbed a spear in his hand. 8 and he went after the man of Israel into the tent and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel and the woman through her belly. So the plague of the sons of Israel was stayed. 9 - and they who die in the plague, twenty-four thousand.

12 that at that time you were apart from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and strangers to the covenants of the promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, 15 by abolishing in His flesh the law of commandments and decrees. He did this to create in Himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace 16 and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity. 17 He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. 19 So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. 21 in whom the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord; 22 And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.

He said: 6 "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 7 You shall have no other gods before me. 8 "'Do not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above, or on the earth below, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: 9 You shall not bow down to them in worship or serve them; because I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the iniquity of their parents, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me, 10 but showing gracious love to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. 11 “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name. 12 Observe the sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work. 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God: you will not do any work, you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maid-servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates, that your manservant and your maid-servant may rest as well as you. 15 Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm: therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. 16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, so that your days may be made longer, and that it may go well with you in the land which the LORD your God gives you. 17 You shall not murder. 18 You shall not commit adultery. 19 You shall not steal. 20 “You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 21 “You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. Ezekiel 21:1-23

1 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and preach toward the sanctuaries, and prophesy against the land of Israel. 3 And say to the land of Israel, So says the LORD: Behold, I am against you and will draw out My sword from its sheath, and I will cut off from you the righteous and the wicked. 4 Because I cut off from you the just and the wicked, so my sword comes from its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north: 5 '"Then everyone will know that I, the LORD, have taken my sword from its sheath, and I will not put it back again."' 6 “Therefore sigh, you son of man. You shall sigh before their eyes with a broken heart and with bitterness. 7 It shall be, when they tell you, 'Why do you sigh?' that you shall say, Because of the news, for it is coming. Every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, every spirit shall faint and all knees shall be weak as water. It is coming, and it shall be done, says the Sovereign LORD. 8 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, 9 "Son of man, prophecy and say, 'this is what the LORD says: "A sword, a sword is sharpened and also polished! 10 '"'It is sharpened to make a slaughter and polished to flash like lightning! Shall we rejoice in the rod of my son despising every tree?'"'" 11 '"The sword was given to be polished, that it might be handled. The sword is sharpened and polished, to give it into the hand of the slayer. 12 Cry and wail, son of man, for it is against my people; it is against all of the princes of Israel. They are thrown to the sword with my people; therefore strike your thigh. 13 '"For there is testing. And what if even the rod that despises will be no more?" Declares the Sovereign LORD. 14 You therefore, son of man, prophesy, and strike your hands together, and let the sword strike twice, even the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which enters into their private chambers. 15 so that a heart melts, and the fallen multiply at all of their gates. I gave a sword for slaughter, and alas! It is made for flashing, it is grasped for slaughtering. 16 Be pointed to the right, to the left, wherever your edge is ordered. 17 I will also strike my hands together, and I will cause my wrath to rest: I, the LORD, have spoken it." 18 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 19 "And you, son of man, mark out for yourself two roads for the coming of the sword of the king of Babylon; they must both go out from the same land. And hew out a signpost; hew it at the head of the road of the city. 20 You shall set a way that the sword may enter into Rabbah of the Ammonites, and into Judah, into fortified Jerusalem. 21 For the king of Babylon stands at the fork of the road at the head of the two roads to practice divination. He shakes the arrows, he inquires with the teraphim, he examines the liver. 22 In his right hand is the divination for Jerusalem, to put up battering rams, to open a mouth for slaughter, to raise the battle cry, to put up battering rams against gates, to build a siege ramp, to build siege works. 23 It will be to them as a false divination in their sight, who have sworn oaths to them; but he brings iniquity to memory, that they may be taken.

They followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them. They bowed to them and provoked the LORD to anger. 13 And they forsook the LORD and served Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. And they polluted the house of the LORD that he had consecrated in Jerusalem. 15 The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, rising up early and sending, because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: 16 But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

Because of our sins and the iniquities of our ancestors, Jerusalem and your people have become an embarrassment to all of those around us. 17 So now, O God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his requests, and look with favor on your desolate sanctuary, for the sake of the Lord. 18 My God, turn your ear, and hear; open your eyes, and see our desolation, and the city which is called by your name. For we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercy. 19 O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and do. Defer not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.

Joshua 20:2-9

2 "Tell the people of Israel, 'Set apart cities of refuge about which I spoke to you through Moses, 3 »anyone who kills someone accidentally and unintentionally may go there for a refuge from the avenger of blood. 4 The killer will flee to one of these cities, stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and state his case to the elders of that city; and they will take him into the city and give him a place, and he will dwell among them. 5 And if the avenger of blood pursues after him, they will not hand over the killer into his hand, because he killed his neighbor unintentionally, and he did not hate him previously. 6 He shall live in that city until he stands trial before the community, until the death of the one who is high priest at that time. Then the killer may return to his own city and to his own home, that is, to the city from which he fled.'" 7 So they set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) in the hill country of Judah. 8 Beyond the Jordan east of Jericho, they appointed Bezer in the wilderness on the plateau, from the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead, from the tribe of Gad, and Golan in the Bashan, from the tribe of Manasseh. 9 These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the alien who lives among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands trial before the congregation.

Numbers 35:11-12

11 you will select for yourselves cities for your cities of refuge, that a killer who has killed a person unintentionally can flee there. 12 those cities will be places of refuge from the avenger of blood, that the manslayer may not die, until he stand before the congregation for trial.

Numbers 35:15-28

15 "These six cities will be places of refuge for Israelites, foreigners, and strangers among you. Anyone who unintentionally kills another person may flee to these cities. 16 But if he strikes him with an instrument of iron, so that he dies, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 17 And if he smote him with a stone in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death. 18 Or if he smites him with a wooden instrument in his hand by which one may die, and he dies, he is a murderer. The murderer shall be put to death, yea death. 19 the avenger of blood, he shall put the murderer to death; when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death. 20 And if he thrust at him out of hatred, or hurl at him intentionally, so that he die, 21 or in hostility struck him with his hand, so that he died, he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him. 22 But if he have thrust at him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him anything unintentionally, 23 or, when not seeing him, he causes any stone by which one may die to fall on him and he dies, yet he was not his enemy and was not seeking his evil, 24 then the assembly shall judge between the smiter and the avenger of blood, according to these judgments. 25 »If you are innocent, the community must protect you from that relative. They must take you back to the city of refuge you fled to. You must live there until the death of the chief priest who was anointed with the holy oil. 26 But if the killer surely goes out of the territory of the city of his refuge to which he fled, 27 and the avenger of blood find him outside the border of his city of refuge and the avenger of blood kills the manslayer, he will not be guilty of blood, 28 because he must live in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest the killer will return to the land of his property.

Deuteronomy 19:1-10

1 "When the LORD your God destroys those nations whose lands he is about to give you, you must dispossess them and live in their cities and houses. 2 separate three cities for you midst the land Yah Veh your Elohim gives you to possess. 3 Build roads throughout the land that the LORD your God is providing as an inheritance, and then divide it into three districts so that any killer may flee there. 4 This is the case of the man slayer who shall flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, and didn't hate him in time past— 5 as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood and his hand swings the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and hits his neighbor so that he dies—he shall flee to one of these cities and live. 6 "Otherwise the avenger of blood might pursue the manslayer in the heat of his anger. He may overtake him and because the way is long he may take his life. Even though he was not deserving of death, since he had not hated him previously. 7 Therefore I command you, saying, You shall separate for yourself three cities. 8 "If the LORD your God enlarges your territory, just as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land he promised to give your fathers. 9 and if you are careful to observe all these commands that I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God and to walk daily in his ways then add three more cities in addition to these three cities. 10 so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, and so guilt for blood be upon you.

Numbers 21:21-32

21 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying, 22 "Let us go through your country. We will not go through any of your fields or vineyards or drink any of the water from your wells. We will stay on the king's highway until we have passed through your territory." 23 Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Sihon gathered all his troops and came out into the desert to attack Israel. When Sihon's troops came to Jahaz, they fought against Israel. 24 Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified. 25 Israel took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages. 26 For Heshbon was the town of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had made war against an earlier king of Moab and taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon. 27 Therefore the poets say, Come to Heshbon; let the city of Sihon be built and established. 28 Because fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon. 29 Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites. 30 And we shot at them. Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. And we have laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba." 31 So Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. 32 And Moses sent to spy out Ya’zer, and they captured the villages thereof, and drove out the Emorites that were there.

Numbers 32:19

19 For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan and beyond, because our inheritance has come to us on this side of the Jordan eastward.”

Deuteronomy 1:4-5

4 This took place after he defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon and Og, king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth at Edrei. 5 beyond the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain this law, saying,

Deuteronomy 2:30-36

30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today. 31 "Then the LORD said to me, 'See, I've begun to deliver Sihon and his territory over to you. Prepare to take possession of his land.' 32 Then Sihon and all his people came out to meet us for battle at Jahaz. 33 The LORD our God delivered him to us, so we attacked him, his son, and his whole army. 34 At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any: 35 But the domestic beasts we plundered for ourselves, and the loot of the cities that we had seized. 36 From Aroer on the edge of Arnon Valley and from the town all the way to Gilead, there was no city that was too strong for us the LORD our God delivered them all to us.

33 Then they turned and went up by the way of the Bashan, and Og king of the Bashan and all his people went out to meet them for battle at Edrei. 34 the LORD said to Moses: "Do not fear him for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon." 35 So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

Deuteronomy 3:1-14

1 And we turned and went up by the way of Bashan, and Og the king of Bashan came out to meet us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. 2 "the LORD said to me: 'Do not be afraid of him. I will hand him, all his army, and his land, over to you. Do to him what you did to King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon.' 3 "So the LORD our God also delivered into our control Og king of Bashan, along with his whole army. We attacked him until there were no survivors. 4 And we took all his cities at that time. There was not a city which we did not take from them, sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 5 All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars; besides a good many unwalled towns. 6 And we utterly destroyed them, as we had done to Sehon the king of Hesebon, destroying every city, men and women and children: 7 But all the livestock, and the plunder of the cities, we took for plunder for ourselves. 8 "So at that time we took control from the two Amorite kings the territory east of the Jordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon. 9 (Sidonians call Hermon, Sirion; and the Amorites call it Senir,) 10 All the towns of the table-land and all Gilead and Bashan as far as Salecah and Edrei, towns of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. 11 »Of the Rephaim only King Og of Bashan was left. His bed was made of iron and was more than thirteen feet long and six feet wide.
