Deuteronomy 2 Cross References - VIN

1 "We turned and set out for the desert on the road to the Reed Sea just as the LORD had directed me. We traveled around Mount Seir for many days. 2 "Then the LORD said to me, 3 You have been journeying round this mountain long enough: now go to the north; 4 and command this people, "You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives, the descendants of Esau who live around Seir. They will be afraid of you so be very careful. 5 Make no attack on them, for I will not give you any of their land, not even space enough for a man's foot: because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for his heritage. 6 "'You must pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink. 7 For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; He has known your walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD your God has been with you and you have lacked nothing. 8 So we bypassed our relatives, the descendants of Esau who live in Seir. We turned through the Arabah desert from Elath, and from Ezion-geber we traveled the desert road to Moab." 9 "Then the LORD said to me, 'Don't harass Moab or provoke them to war, because I won't give you any part of their land. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as their property. 10 (The Emim dwelt in it beforetime, a people great and numerous, and as tall as the Anakim. 11 Like the Anakim, they too were accounted as Rephaim, yet the Moabites called them Emim. 12 The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which the LORD gave to them.) 13 Now get going and cross the Wadi Zered.' And so we crossed the Wadi Zered. 14 "Now from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Wadi Zered was 38 years. All of that generation, the soldiers in the camp, were destroyed just as the LORD swore they would be. 15 For his hand was against them, that they should perish from the midst of the camp. 16 "And so all the soldiers among the people died. 17 "the LORD said to me (Moses): 18 'Today, you are about to cross the border of Moab at Ar. 19 When you come to the Ammonites, don't harass or provoke them to war, for I won't give any part of Ammonite land to you, since I have given it to the descendants of Lot as their property.' 20 (That also is considered a land of Rephaim. Rephaim lived there in the past, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim, 21 a people great and numerous and as tall as the Anakites; the LORD destroyed them from before them, and they dispossessed them and settled in place of them, 22 just as he did for the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them and dispossessed them, and then they settled in their place up to this day. 23 And the Avvites who lived in villages as far as Azzah, the Caphtorites coming out of Caphtor destroyed them, and lived in their place. 24 Rise up, set out and cross over the river Arnon. Behold! I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land. Begin to possess, and fight with him in battle. 25 Today, I will begin to put your dread and your fear upon the nations under the whole heavens; who shall hear report of you, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of you. 26 Then from the waste land of Kedemoth I sent representatives to Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying, 27 I will pass through your land; I will go by the road, I will not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 28 Sell me food for cash so I can eat and give me water for cash, so I can drink. Just let me pass through on foot 29 as the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir, and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did for us. We will keep going until we cross the Jordan River into the land the LORD our God is giving us.' 30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is today. 31 "Then the LORD said to me, 'See, I've begun to deliver Sihon and his territory over to you. Prepare to take possession of his land.' 32 Then Sihon and all his people came out to meet us for battle at Jahaz. 33 The LORD our God delivered him to us, so we attacked him, his son, and his whole army. 34 At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any: 35 But the domestic beasts we plundered for ourselves, and the loot of the cities that we had seized. 36 From Aroer on the edge of Arnon Valley and from the town all the way to Gilead, there was no city that was too strong for us the LORD our God delivered them all to us. 37 Only to the land of the sons of Ammon you did not come near, all the side of the river Jabbok and the cities of the hill-country and wherever the LORD our God forbad us.

Behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the edge of your border. 17 Please let us go through your land. We will not go through a field or vineyard, and we will not drink water from a well. We will go along the road of the king; we will not turn aside right or left until we have gone through your territory.'" 18 Then Edom said to him, "You will not pass through us lest we will go out to meet you with the sword." 19 The Israelites said to him, "We will go up on the main road, and if we and our livestock drink your water, we will pay for it. It is only a small matter; let us pass through on our feet." 20 And he said, You shall not pass through. We will stay on the king's highway until we have passed through your territory." 23 Sihon would not let Israel pass through his territory. Sihon gathered all his troops and came out into the desert to attack Israel. When Sihon's troops came to Jahaz, they fought against Israel. 24 Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified. 25 Israel took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages. 26 For Heshbon was the town of Sihon, king of the Amorites, who had made war against an earlier king of Moab and taken from him all his land as far as the Arnon. 27 Therefore the poets say, Come to Heshbon; let the city of Sihon be built and established. 28 Because fire went out from Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon; it consumed Ar of Moab, the lords of the high places of Arnon. 29 Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites. 30 And we shot at them. Heshbon has perished as far as Dibon. And we have laid waste as far as Nophah, which reaches to Medeba." 31 So Israel lived in the land of the Amorites. 32 And Moses sent to spy out Ya’zer, and they captured the villages thereof, and drove out the Emorites that were there. 33 Then they turned and went up by the way of the Bashan, and Og king of the Bashan and all his people went out to meet them for battle at Edrei. 34 the LORD said to Moses: "Do not fear him for I have given him into your hand, and all his people and his land. You will do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon." 35 So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.

They will suffer for your unfaithfulness until the last of your bodies lies dead in the desert. 34 "'You explored the land for forty days. So for forty years, one year for each day, you will suffer for your sins and know what it means for me to be against you.' 35 I, the LORD, have spoken; I will surely do this to all this evil community who has banded together against me. 8 do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion, in the time of testing in the wilderness, 9 where your fathers tried Me by testing Me, and for forty years saw My works. 10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, and I said, ‘Their hearts always go astray, and they have not known My ways.’ 11 So I swore on oath in My anger, ‘They shall never enter My rest.’” 12 See to it, my brothers, that no one of you has a wicked, unbelieving heart, that turns away from the ever-living God, 13 But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first. 15 As it has been said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as you did in the rebellion.” 16 Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? 17 And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed? 19 So we see that they were not able to enter in because of their unbelief.

He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD, the God of Israel, commanded. 41 Joshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea to Gaza, and all the land of Goshen up to Gibeon; 42 All these kings and their land Joshua took at one time, because the LORD the God of Israel fought for Israel.
